    I owned a 1987 Accord (bought used), 1994 Accord (bought used), 2001 Accord (bought new), and now I own a 2012 Accord (bought new). One general feature: they never break. I am not counting regular maintenance, and replacing normal wear items (tires, brakes, wiper blades). I traded away the 2001 at 200,000 Kms (125,000 miles) on the original clutch (all were manual transmission). Incredible cars !

      John Thompson; I hope you didn’t have the V6 version of the 02 Accord because it had tons of transmission problems even a class action lawsuit between 1998 and 2005 V6 versions of Honda’s and Acura’s.

    My old rabbit had a million miles on it and my wife made me trade. I'm older now and got the passat this time. My daughter drove it and was so impressed, she traded her old jetta for one. I drove honda, nissan, and toyota, before buying, but none compared to the solid feel and quality of the VW. When I sat down an started it up, I didn't need a test drive to know I was going to buy another vw.

    The Accord is a very nice car. After looking at both of these cars, the Passat won it for me. This is my first German car and I can definitely feel a difference in quality. The ride quality and performance does feel like I am driving Audi or BMW. I do like the clean German design. The car does stand out from the land of Camry's and Accords.

I love the way it handles around corners without any sway. The only thing I wish the Passat had are paddle shifters. In my opinion, the Passat is the drivers car.

    The last two minutes summary of this video exemplifies exactly why I subscribe to this channel. In the wash of so many "professional" review channels that always say whats good about a car and pretty much explains the same exact thing- having a true subjective opinion is hard to find. I think most people who watch videos like this get that there aren't too many really bad cars out there but at the same time, don't want to be recycled with the same lines in how every car is "great" over and over.

  • @vincentbiggar3781

    I think the accord sport is a sweet spot with this car. The prices jump $3k with each stage and each stage some how notches out those critical features for people. Navigation for example. Even the Acura is another 3k bump over the Accord. I find it funny how you pick the accord touring at $4k more than the EX-L when they are almost the same car. Yet you missed the biggest feature of the touring which is the adaptive cruise control. The cruise control on the touring will maintain your speed with the car in front of you up to the point of a complete and even a panic stop. I have used it following off a ramp at 70 mph and lane changed into a lane with stopped cars and the car easily adjusted and quickly slowed to a complete stop without touching the pedals. If you change lanes to a open lane the car will resume your set speed that you can change at any time. I find the departure warnings only helpful on the highway but if you have a teen that isn't always paying attention this could save their lives. Also the crash tests and safety enhancements are groundbreaking. The car melds aluminum for light weight with hard steel for cabin safety. With a car like this with the options properly set you shouldn't be able to hit something and any real speed. It even has accident alert. This car is faster than the 2014 v6 300hp mustang by almost 1 second. This won't be the case in 2015 but I'm betting Honda will up the Accord to the direct injection engine. The center console is a bit confusing and I bet I could clean it up but it sells cars to people like me. I find it better to separate the features so you don't have to be distracted by switch screens and changing focus from the knobs to the screen up high (which is well placed) to fiddle with the radio. This is not perfect but well thought out. There would be a set of radio controls without the touch screen anyways. The climate is dual zone and very simple to adjust. The analog clock in the Passat says it all. My one any only gripe about the Honda is the rear seat split. Other car companies need to step up their game when your competing against a best in all classes car company like Honda. Hell even their lawn mowers rule.
    The only way the Passat makes sense is the diesel.

    Not hating on honda, but i just don't like it, it doesnt have any emotions, and yes the latest problems with volkswagens are known, but the newest models are definetly a lot better, than the latest versions (2008 - 2012) the reason everyone loves vws so much is, because the quality is so damn well. Put someone that doesn't care about cars at all in the honda, and after that in the passat, the quality and feeling you get in the passat is just unbelievable. For the same price as the honda

    if VW was truly unreliable, then why would most major cities in China use them as taxicabs and police cars? Shanghai VW still makes the passat B2, rebadged and modernized as the Santana. it has been used as taxis ever since it first came out in the 80's. These cars can and do go up to 700,000 miles or more, amazing when you consider how hard these miles are (hours of traffic jams, hard acceleration, extensive idling with the A/C on full, etc.) bulletproof designs.

    The TDI Passat is the only way to go. I had a 2013 and I kick myself everyday for getting rid of it. The VR6 is a nice motor. I had a VR6 in a 2001 Jetta, and it was WONDERFUL....when it worked. I think I payed for the car twice before I got rid of it. I love VWs, I've have 3 of them in the last 5 years and the Passat TDI was by far the best.

    In Canada the basic warranty on the Passat is 48 months and only 36 months on the Accord. This could make a big difference if you are locked into a 48 month lease and the car needs repairs between 36 months and 48 months. Also the corrosion warranty on the Passat is 144 months and only 60 months on the Accord. This could make a big difference if you plan to keep the car for a long time and live in a snowy climate like I do.

    You are right. Volkswagen has the most cars they've sold, still on the road today than any other car company. Hondas will last but not as long as a VW. Some will say VW's are unreliable but they thing is that they put out more lemons than any other car maker since Mercedes in the late 1990's to early 2000's. Once the lemons are gone, VW's will run longer than a honda or toyota.

    yeah. that low end torque does wonders. I drove a VW Sharan minivan as a rental car in Europe. It had a 2.0TSI, 200hp and I was amazed that it had an inline four. It feels like a V6. VW's 1.4TSI in the Touran mini-MPV is a real piece of engineering, 170hp from a tiny 1.4!!!! It has a supercharger and a turbocharger, a setup first pioneered by Lancia.

    For increased flexibility. If you have one item that needs to fit in the trunk, but is just barely making it, and you have 4 people in the car - you can fold down one seat while still having room for the other 2 people with seat belts. Whereas in the new Accord, you can't fold just one section of the seats down, its an all or nothing deal.

    Honda Accord is a drivers car! This blonde white guy is so caught up in his "German everything" in life; Incredibly biased and everything he says is from his personal beliefs and perspective! What an amateur critic. Don't take him seriously! He's just hating on the Japanese because they practically manufacture everything so well.

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's exactly the point. Hondas are transportation appliances. People who buy a car with their emotions involved are more likely to go with a VW over a Honda. Everyone knows German cars are drivers cars, while Japanese cars are dependable appliances with no soul.

    • @MatTZI014
      @MatTZI014 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      palebeachbum I disagree. Hondas aren't "appliances" for transportation. They are a million times better than VW. Do you think the people would dream of getting VW over a Honda anyday? No way. The whole planet knows Japanese cars are real drivers cars. Which brands do you see mostly on the road? Exactly, Japanese cars. They have soul if people keep coming to buy them because they are amazing cars. German cars are boring and break down so easily. I see my local VW dealership so deserted while I always see lots of people at my local Honda dealership.

      ***** Being reliable and being an engaging car to drive are two totally different things. A car that drives superbly isn't necessarily reliable (VW). Just the same, a car that is very reliable isn't necessarily engaging to drive (Honda). Personally, I'd rather drive the Passat. Accords are a dime a dozen. Too generic for my liking.

      ***** Not to burst your bubble, but in the real world, paid 24,000 for a 2008 Lacrosse, in the shop constantly until I got fed up at 92,000 miles, bought a jetta, 2.5 sel for $23,000, 2011, 78,000 miles and hasn't needed one repair. Plus its fricken loaded compared to the GM. Lacrosse was also starting to rust like crazy. And I've always been an american guy... xD

  • @DivaSelectiva
    @DivaSelectiva 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    You guys did a great job with this review. I certainly agree that the Accord is a much better car in terms of reliability, low cost maintenance, and options. All my friends have German cars and as much as I like the way they look, they break down very often. It's funny every time I hear someone speak about a German car they mention oil leaks.

  • @brandonfriesen5389
    @brandonfriesen5389 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yup, thats why they're cheap, because they're designed to get a person from a-to-b for about 5 years and then the body rusts and the engine starts to fail. I have a 1986 Golf turbo diesel that runs like new with no new parts or modifications other than regular maintenance stuff like fuel filters, brakes, oil etc. Never let our family down. My uncle had a 2003 Honda Civic from new and it fell apart about 6 years later and gave him constant headaches. I will never own a Japanese car. EVER

  • @tadeuszlufik
    @tadeuszlufik 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, in your comparison tests (V6), have you noticed when the engine shuts down cylinders that there is a slight vibration felt in the pedal or steering. That concerns me along with the fact that the NAv/Radio is causing many V6 Navi dudes headaches that dealerships and even corporate is having a hard time addressing. If those werent an issue the Accord would be an easier choice.

  • @eternalhalloween1
    @eternalhalloween1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I prefer Honda over VW. (Mainly because it's easier for your average mechanic to get Honda parts.) But being objective, it was not a fair test seeing that the Honda was being driven in good weather, and the VW was being driven in the snow.
    It's not so much which is better. It's what you prefer.

    I have a civic and really want the V6 Accord. Looking at the segment I decided to just try the Passat and loved the quality I felt in that car compared to the Accord. Love the Accord dash and the glitzy-ness but it doesnt have that tank-like german solidity that i experiences in the Passat. Now if I got a Passat id get only the TDI. But i really want the V6! What is stopping me are the tech probs and engine vibrations ppl are getting w the V6. Can someone speak to that on here?

    And with your point about recalling, VW recalled 170,000 vehicles from 2010-July 2013. Toyota from 2011-2012: 225,000. Ford: 370,000 JUST in 2013! Your assumptions make total sense to me now... And the DSG issue was never a recall, it was dealer recommended because not every car had the issue. The problem was the oil was too viscous not allowing cog swapping with precision. And if VW's are unreliable...why are they the #1 taxi in China? Over 300,000 miles in cars over 2007 model year.

    Europe does not need a pickup but the Amarock is classified as one on the VW.co.uk website. The Crown vic is the best taxi here for the same reason the VW is over there. Both dependable and spacious. And for your point about the top ten, there is no ranking. They didn't say that the Golf and GTI(yes not just the GTI) placed seventh. All the cars in that list aren't ranked. The Golf is VW's pride and joy, their special child. They worked on that car more than any car in their lineup.

    It would have been more fair had you driven both cars back to back vs months removed. The Passat has great road manners for the price range compared to the Accord. The suspension feels like rubber in the Accord, and you nailed the center stack complexity issue. I am Biased but I also do get to drive these back to back more often.

Their car comparisons don't make any fucking sense. How could you even compare a fully loaded Passat with a 4 cylinder Accord?? I'm not an expert in car reviews but i'm a mechanic but it doesn't even take that much knowledge in cars to know it doesn't make any sense. Now they have to remake a review of the same damn cars cause they fucked the first one up and everybody had to tell them that... That doesn't sound professional at all

    The Passat isn't a bigger car-- the length is 191.6 inches and the 2013 Accord is 191.4 inches. The Accord is almost an inch wider though, so you could make the case that the Accord is actually slightly bigger, although I would say they are close enough as to be essentially the same size.

    Im srry I disagree with everything in this vid about the accord, I drive a 2011 Honda Accord and its a LX-P Non- V-6, "I know I know I should of went with the V-6 but my pockets were too deep and my arms are too short for the V-6 EX-L price tag" but I enjoy driving the Accord, The I4 2.4 liter has enough pep to get me going plus the gas savings are outstanding, and im not a racer just another everyday driver going to work and clubs at night and back home, The interior is ok plastic was expected but its flush and well put together and it was a certified car, So yea I love it and I would pick it over and over again over any crappy VW junk they have to offer

    Most reviews say the Camry is far less refined in both ride comfort (sport =/= hard and bumpy, despite what TOYOTA keeps thinking) and materials quality. The new Camry is probably the worst one in recent years (Drove a Camry 2 gens ago and it was excellent), while this Accord is the best one since 2002. The Mazda 6 is also a great option. Ford Fusion and VW Passat are both more "exclusive" but the Ford is made in Mexico and will fall to pieces, and the Passat will as well.

I must also say I owned my Passat since 40K and it has had over 7,000 in repairs. I change the oil when it says, and have it immaculately maintained. By far the works reliability I have ever had in a vehicle. Almost everyone with a B6 has the same problems, but every manufactures have a stinker from time to time. I unfortunately bought one with a VW label.

    • @zedzedski7382
      @zedzedski7382 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SUB-Entertainment I dunno, I had many German cars and they are easy to repair. Can do many things even myself. Parts are not expensive as long as you don't buy Premium German cars like Mercedes, BMW, Audi. Although, BMW is cheapest to maintain out of those 3. VW is the cheap version of Audi and parts are relatively cheap. Also, if you happen to be in Europe then Golf is dirt cheap to maintain as you can find used parts dirt cheap from cars that were in the accident and are not worth the repair - like you can replace shocks, springs and other suspension parts on a Golf as low as 100 EUR for the whole rear. On top of that, you just can't beat the reliability of German car body that lasts for decades and does not rust as long as you don't damage parts and repaint them. Jap and American cars rust like complete rust buckets after 6 years. I've tried to find a 5 year old Toyota that has no rust and just could not. I went to VW and even an 8 year old VW still looks fresh and no rust. On top of that VW gives 10 years of anti-rust warranty.

    isn't it worthy to mention how solid the bodies of the cars are, how do they perform at crash tests, how do they perform with the rust over the years and so on?

    Hopefully that will change once they replace the 2.5 with a 2.0 TSi engine. Thing about reliability though: If you do all the necessary maintenance with a VW it will last a lifetime. Many passats can go up to 700,000 miles. the same cannot be said with Honda, as their quality has gone way down. if VW gives the base model a TSi engine then it will have a major edge. the TSi motors have all torque available at 1500rpm so it saves plenty of fuel.
