I'm no Baptist. I'm not even a Protestant or Catholic, but I can definitely rock with John Piper from time to time. He packs a definite punch. Any time I listen to him I get some fresh perspective. I can't stand a preacher that comes with no conviction. John Piper's voice trembles with the realization He is talking about a precious beautiful and Holy God. I love that about John. He's never wound up just going through the motions. He's still very much taken aback by the measure of glory that he knows. A voice that speaks at length but never trembles at the thought of how pure and holy Christ is really should not be preaching. They should be selling used cars or home and kitchen appliances or something. Sadly the opposite of what most preachers should be is what most are. Salesmen instead of fishers of men.
I have "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You" tattooed on my stomach. I don't live by this for people to treat me that way back but just because I believe it is the most simple instruction as to how to live by the example of Christ.
It is. And it's the one and only way to live in obedience to Christ. Jesus did not say what the holiest commands are for people to pick and choose how to follow God. The Bible isn't a menu.
And by the way the easiest way to know if someone is preaching a false gospel is they will make Jesus sound like He doesn't treat others the way He'd want to be treated. They'll be making Him sound like a hypocrite. Jesus is in fact the only person who has ever walked the earth who never did anything hypocritical toward anyone ever. That is why He alone is worthy of all glory, honor and praise. He is the only pure and spotless Lamb. The only One able to show sinners what true forgiveness looks like. It looks like Jesus dying in agony on a cross saying "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do." To forgive is to follow the golden rule., Truth is we all want to be forgiven whether we're willing to admit we need to be or not. We all do. Every person on earth does. And if we forgive others, The Father will forgive us. He gave us His Word that He would.
"You will be hated by all people because of Me, but he who remains steadfast until the end will be saved." - Luke 10:22 One can only be hated because of Jesus by following the golden rule and they can only remain steadfast by not letting the world convince them to give up on the command of God to do so.
