Well, that is the optimistic point of view, but you could say, since he was at the time not the real shiro, but an evil clone taking his place he simply could not thinknof being anything other than a paladin, he was controled to do so... But I too much rather the your idea

Even though they were, Lotor didn’t start the fight he was fighting back really, he tried to defuse the situation and the Paladins, more specifically Allira(sorry i’m back with names), refused to listen. Did he do terrible things, yes, but he was still trying to make peace

Lotor’s line we’re on the same side then Allura’s shout was really well planned out with the song so was Keith’s line follow me form Voltron Shiro did so well picking Keith to lead Voltron in his absence Keith is a great leader regardless of his insecurities Keith does a good job
