    The chaplain story is absolutely true. In basic, we were marched back from religious services by a drill sergeant who apparently was mad that he drew the Sunday "baby sitting" duty for the company and was smoking us for some still unknown reason (a no-no, as Sunday was considered a "rest" day where barracks and equipment maintenance was all that happened in prep for the next week's training schedule). The chaplain happened to walk by and saw it and called out the drill, who proceeded to argue with the chaplain.
    The chaplain forcefully reminded the drill that he was a Major and ordered the drill to release us to the barracks. Next thing we knew, senior drills, the first sergeant and company officers were meeting in the cadre office and, come Monday, the drill sergeant in question was nowhere to be found.

      We lost a drill also halfway through OSUT at Ft Leonard wood in 1997. He just walked through the barracks drunk as a skunk at 2am on a Sunday night right before Sgt maj inspection and woke up the whole barracks screwing and beating on walllockers and smoked us out in the mud then marched in in and smoked us on the floor trashing the place repeatedly for hours callings us racial slurs and making direct threats at recruits for no reason the whole time. At like 4am the senior drill and a couple other drills showed up because we assume someone else noticed the commotion and contacted them and they led the drunk drill outside and we spent the next couple hours cleaning and never saw him again.

    Weekly reminder that Triple 9 is a badass film that you need to see! Dying to see how accurate (or not) the breach-and-clear scene is!

    • @Durandalski
      @Durandalski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SWAT officer here, I loved that scene. It’s very different from how we clear now, but probably fairly close to how it was done in that era. Lessons were learned from the flaws in the method of clearing they use in that movie. We still use elements of what you see, slicing the pie with the shield for example. But how we work now is much slower and less interesting to watch.
      The most unrealistic part is that they kept working once shots were fired. No matter how badass your entry team is law enforcement does not want to be in a shootout, especially in tight quarters and especially in an apartment building. It’s not safe for us and it’s not safe for the innocent people surrounding. That was a narcotics entry team, who are often very good, but the moment bullets fly they’ll back out and call SWAT to surround the building and negotiate. Even SWAT if they have shots fired during a clear will back out, surround and call the bad guys out. No amount of dope evidence is worth anyones life. Law enforcement Entry teams are badass so they can survive and win the surprise fight if someone does shoot at them, but it’s not the middle east. No LEO team would ever clear through a structure engaging in multiple shootings.

    Regarding the bag pooping situation, during the Brave Two Zero mission, they really DID shit in bags! Its explained why in the book, they were behind enemy lines and worried about being tracked. If the enemy was using dogs, they'd obviously pick up the scent of buried poop, but also, because they (as Westerners) had a different diet to the Iraqis, savvy trackers would be able to discern from the undigested food in the remains that it had been left there by people who were not locals, and that there was likely enemies in the region, or had been very recently.

    This is another Paul Gross movie. He is a very patriotic Canadian who tried to do a couple of war movies. Unfortunately he is not the best director. He was not the best at listening to technical advisors and was more interested in “the perfect scene”.

    • @XLC-zd8dn
      @XLC-zd8dn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and the Intelligence Officer, the one doing the KLE with the ‘Terp is also the director. Like I said, a nice guy but a terrible movie director. My biggest critique of his two war movies (this one and Passchendale) was he tried to have a war movie and a love story have equal billing within the film. NOOOOO! Have a romance movie with the conflict as the backdrop. OR, have a war movie with a scene or two of side action. BTW I was looking forward to comments on the Helicopter scene. That was B roll from Afghanistan. Not my tour, but that Bell 412 gunship was what I was flying in the sandbox.

    Your hinky conversation totally reminds me of "The Fugitive":
    Marshal Bobby Biggs:
    It's hinky, Sam. I mean, this guy is a college graduate. He became a doctor. I mean, he ain't gonna go through here with all this security. Hinky.
    Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard:
    Biggs, what does that mean, hinky?
    Marshal Bobby Biggs:
    I don't know. Strange. Weird
    Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard:
    Well, why don't you say strange or weird? I mean hinky, that has no meaning.
    Marshal Bobby Biggs:
    Well, we say hinky.
    Deputy Marshal Samuel Gerard:
    I don't want you guys using words with no meaning. I'm taking the stairs

    I was a Guardian Angel for the Afghan SMW in Kandahar. Half an ODA, 40 Afghan Commandos, and two of us hahaha yeah we were useful. Then one of the Afghan sniper's rifle fell over off the bipod and my buddy and I laughed reflexively. The Commandos stared daggers into us for laughing at their friend. Those guys do not like being embarrassed in front of peers. Now they're dead or Taliban so I guess it doesn't matter.

    You guys should review Gerard Butler’s Angel Has Fallen at some point. Seeing as though there’s some pretty cool action sequences in that movie. Not sure about the tactics though??? Lol

      Angel, London and Olympus series are pretty decent. There is a ton of (flash)
      that is just for show and not realistic but overall, a tactical movie that is very enjoyable.
      I think buck will make fun of Butler for sure though ahahahah

      I walked out of Olympus has Fallen.
      The opening scene was so stupid that I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes.

    🤣 Great comments and reaction. Watch out. If you push a bad movie too far, you risk turning it into a cult movie. 😄

    Abel is copying Tommy Lee Jones in the first fugitive. One of tlj's guys says hinky in the court house while waiting for the elevator and tlj asks what does hinky mean and the guy goes, You know, hinky. Tlj basically tells him stfup.

    I think a movie made by you guys would be great. Not only would you get the realism, but you would make it hilarious as well.
