Zach and myself are first year medical students! I didn't know how to suture prior to the filming of this video, but Zach did. I had so much fun filming this video and learning how to suture. Hi! Idk if you’ll see this but thank you for deciding to do youtube and being so consistent and such an interesting, honest, raw, encouraging TH-camr. Im an undergrad premed junior at Syracuse University and Im really having a crisis.. ive wanted to be a Doctor my entire life ive never wanted anything else but for some reason im at a point where im questioning everything and your videos are so nice to have to know that i can do it so thank you so much.

Same! I’m still a couple years away from college, but I still feel a little stressed due to this. My dad is a doctor (my mom is too, but isn’t practicing) and so I feel like if I end up not liking medicine when I’m in undergrad I’d be upset. But I really like how Rachel shows the ups and downs of med school, it’s a really nice window into how the journey is actually like :)
I finished undergrad and had been burning out/in a crisis re med for a little while. i worked for 18 months and that's been the break i needed, and hopefully I'll be starting med school next year. Go in when you feel ready :)
Suturing is one of my favorite things! It’s especially rewarding when you close incisions or lacerations right on a patient!

I’m actually becoming a vet tech and I had to learn suturing so to practice I was going to buy this kit! I’m so glad you enjoy it and it’s helpful because I’m totally getting it now!

Hi Rachel! Im a first year medical student as well. I quit teaching biology to pursue this career and reach my potential. I enjoy watching your videos as I feel like we are on this journey together. I passed my first med exam which was NBME style and it feels amazing to discover more things about myself just from that. Keep up the diligent work, and enjoy what you’re studying as it makes the material much easier to understand!

this is my questioooon for you: i always watch your videos (they’re hella inspiring if i’m honest) and you always have a smile in your beautiful face! so i wanted to know, how do you deal with life when you do bad in an exam? has it ever happened to you(in medical school) that you think you studied v hard and you know all the stuff but when you get your grade it is nothing like what you were expecting? it is the face of sadness and disappointment🥺 i get very sad and mad to myself :(

First off, thank you! You're too kind. But i have had bad exams before! But i remember how I felt when opening that poor score and i try to avoid that feeling again by working even harder for the next one. I also look back and try to figure out WHY i didn't do as I would've hoped. Was it lack of studying? Preparation methods? Not enough sleep? Too much stress?

I mean for myself, I knew since I was 5 year old I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse cause I thought if I was something else I would be poor and homeless... yes those were my thoughts at 5 years old

M C I was told the same thing regarding much easier jobs to make a higher income directly from the president and CEO of a medical school, so he’s definitely not alone in that statement. Lol the Presidents suggestion was to look into Business degrees. 😂
