How do you know which stitch to use to stitch up different wounds, or surgury a etc, i can’t find anything about it online. Is it just preference or just based on how much scarring it will make? I am a freshman in highschool so i’m still really young but i really want to be a surgeon when i’m older and i just bought a suture kit to practice.
Dr Anthonio I saw this tutorial after couple of days of ER rotation. I struggled suturing b/c of the way i used to sutures. I watched your video and practiced locking and unlocking the while walking , watching movie and wow now suturing is way easier and fun. And also the angle of the suture saved me a lot of sprain in my PALMAR MUSCLES. THANK YOU DOC.

Good video. Once you get to more complicated knots, it might be convenient to keep a close up point of view angle of the instruments. That way the tying method will be easier to follow. The switching between camera angles makes it a little bit more difficult. Keep it up! Cheers

Thank-you for this VID, I was able to buy a Suture kit and stick my deep cut up. Wasn't easy being on the back off my hand but I got it done with the help of this video .

Very interesting. The way i was taught to do the final throw was to do it the same way as the other single loop throws. I see that you said to put it behind the suture when making the loop, instead of in front (near the wound midline) for the final one in order to "lock" the suture. This technique also makes you pull right two times in a row. Is there really any difference between just doing it the other way (in front of the suture and pulling to the left again, so alternating left right left right), the sutures still seem to hold pretty strong. Any literature on your technique. Thanks and much love.
You are right, this does not create a sturdy square knot. Looping twice and then alternating is what we learn and teach in Amsterdam.

How are you liking the Image quality on the OEC CFD C-arm
Everybody is different. I have never used Adson rat toothed pickups to skin. I use the side of my thumb and with a light pressure I push or pull away from the skin edge creating a pucker to catch the needle. I keep a sponge in that off hand. Unless receiving an instrument I don't "palm" it. One click only closing instruments. I've always kept my instruments tucked, ring or long finger. This allows me to use and keep needle drivers and suture scissors in one hand. Blunts up sharps down. Just as important is prepping....
When palming the needle driver, do you have your 4th finger in a hole on the handle?
How do you keep the first throw tight so that when you knot it, it doesn’t slide and leave a slack suture

Hey, Antonio, do you know any good study methods for A and P 1 in college. I'm trying to become a Cardiothoracic surgeon and this class is giving me a rough time.
Lassoing Western I’ve taken this class at Michigan State University and 4.0’ed. I would say to learn the Latin roots of the words. That helped me a ton and even if I didn’t know a question on an exam I was able to get the answer just by knowing the Latin prefixes.
@@kakossniper Ok cool, thanks we have an exam every thursday and you have remember so much like identification, function, origin, and insertion.
Tip 1. Get a friend and lock yourself in a study - drill baby drill.
Tip 2. The words have meaning in Latin - google the real meaning so that automatically you know what the root-word is referring to - for instance you know ostomy means pouch so you just have to figure location. Most anatomy is location based.
Tip 3. Enjoy what you are learning don’t just cram and Tip 4. use 3 d program to study the image in an interactive way.
Remember if you don’t like it now... you will have 10 - 16 yrs of A & P. Don’t study to pass an exam. Study as if you are walking to operate tomorrow.

@@Nightstalkers22 I never double-gloved in OR, but that would probably make for even better practice. I still have no idea how I got through the surgical rotation. I just barely knew how to tie knots from years prior.
HeavyProfessor HeavyProfessor I double glove just in case. I use the indicator blue glove as my first layer then a 8 latex over. This way if you contaminate your top glove you still have the first down. Also it protects from needle sticks and other sharps. But it absolutely helps ! But lol that’s great!

Hi! I'm a CST student...just to let you guys know, you should NEVER load your blade like he just did. Use your needle driver to load it. In a surgery situation, we will load this thing for you. All we ask is you don't throw sharps at us like we have alligator skin...we bleed too.
