I'm a medical coder so I was excited to see the October update that included the ICD10 code. These are used for billing but also for statistics, so it should help with getting funding for research.

My POTS symptoms and other Dysautonomia disorders had resolved to the point I was functioning very well. For years I felt so much better. In July 2022 I got Covid and now all the symptoms are back. Severe fatigue, light headed, feeling faint, racing heart, headache, anxiety, Orthostatic intolerance… I feel like I’m back to square one. Ugh, thanks Covid.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, we are hearing from many members that bouts with COVID has caused flares of symptoms, as well as people who have never had any dysautonomia symptoms before, developing autonomic dysfunction after being sick. The vaccines have, in most cases, kept people living with dysautonomia out of the hospital and free of the worst complications, however, it does not stop you from contracting the virus. And, as you are experiencing, it can cause symptoms to come back. Luckily, we are hearing that in most cases, people are returning to their pre-COVID health after a period of time. As you know, it takes patience and good symptom management to get a handle on the worst of the symptoms. For people new to dysautonomia after COVID, it is a much tougher road because they have to go through the hit and miss trials of symptom management without a clear path forward. I hope your symptoms ease soon. Hang on to the memory of the good health you had pre-COVID. You were able to do it once, you can do it again. Best wishes.

A question - if someone has secondary dysautonomia, let’s say from having had a virus - can it also be any of the other kinds of dysautonomia? I wasn’t sure if it’s a specific kind of dysautonomia or not.

Most often it is POTS that develops after a virus but depending on the person and a possible pre-disposition, it can certainly be other forms of POTS or dysautonomia.
