Thank you for this! I knew someone out there would have the answer. I just bought a 15 lb back of rocks with that coating on them. They're really nice rocks and I wanted to make sure I could paint them!
Thanks so much for your reply! Another question please - you mentioned rustoleum right? But if you use that how do you maintain the Matt look of your work? Thanks
Scratch the surface with your nail. If you can scrape some waxy residue off you need to clean them before painting them. However, landscaping stores sell natural rocks without this coating.
Hi Kala I hope you receive and read this message. I came across your work on instagram. Your art really stands out! And I proceeded to watch your tutorials. I have a question - what do you use to seal/varnish your rocks after painting them? The posca pens that you use are matte too? Thanks and hoping you lol reply.

Rustoleum 2x comes in a matte finish too!
Kala Escobar thanks again 😊👍🏻
Thank you!
Question.. how do you know if they have been coated with the wax/polish? Is there places they sell them without it? Ty

@kala.escobar.design yeah id prefer to find them without anything on them for my fish tank. I'll look into some nurseries around here for them. Ty

So glad you found me! Yep, Poscas are matte. My go-to sealer is Rustoleum 2x...super easy to use!!
Doesn’t work!
Your water may not be hot enough to dislodge the wax...
