"De-waxing" decorative rocks
มุมมอง 4.1K6 ปีที่แล้ว
You can find decorative rocks in many big box or dollar stores, and most of them are covered in a waxy coating to make they shiny and enhance their color. Here is a quick video to show you a easy way to "de-wax" them so you can use them for rock painting or other craft projects...
Creating a Glow Effect
มุมมอง 3.9K6 ปีที่แล้ว
This rock painting tutorial demonstrates how to use a makeup sponge to create a lovely, light effect with your acrylic paints. The supplies that I use are as follows: DecoArt matte acrylic paints Latex makeup sponge (These are sometime called a beauty blender...the one you choose must have a dome-shaped end.) Pre-painted rocks
Flower Rock Tutorial

This simple tutorial will teach you to create your own stencil and use it to paint colorful, ombré flowers. The supplies that I use are as follows: DecoArt matte acrylic paints Latex makeup sponges (wedge shaped) Pre-painted ombré rocks (see this tutorial to learn to create an ombré background: th-cam.com/video/Q2QBmkXmFe8/w-d-xo.html) Adhesive labels Posca paint pens

Hacking and refilling paint pens...
มุมมอง 62K6 ปีที่แล้ว
This video covers how to maintain, refill, and hack your paint pens. (Find me on Instagram @kalaescobar) The supplies I focus on are Posca and Ironlak pens, but I also talk about a few more brands like Molotov and Montana. Here are a few details about nib sizes, refill paints, and ordering options... NIBS: Posca nibs come in a plastic nib design for the 1M size and are made of felt for sizes 3M...
Painting an ombré background on a rock (tutorial)
มุมมอง 22K6 ปีที่แล้ว
A simple technique for creating an ombre´ background for a painted rock... Supplies: 2 contrasting colors of matte acrylic paint (I use DecoArt) Several wedge-shaped, latex, makeup sponges Paintbrush Paper plate Plastic bag
Alcohol does not affect plastic. Don't use bee bees as they rust. Use stainless steel balls
Because they're made in Japan🤦♂️ it's common knowledge Posca and any good marker has standards reverser thread as the first thing we do it the cap doesn't come of is twist. Smartass trying to tutorial on pouring liquid in smaller container there.
Unrelated but your voice is so soothing and beautiful!
great tutorial, well done, calling out all the rude people.
Do you think the posca 7m bullet nib can be used in the posca 8k instead of the chisel nib? Or do you think the sizes are too different? I really prefer the 7M bullet tip but they're more expensive than the 8k pens and I don't wanna have to buy more.
I like to refill my paint markers with testers model car paint
Aaaaah jadore bravo ! 😁❤️
hi, can you help me find the best price for the quality of the marker refill paints - which brand should I get and where to buy - thanks
Wow, my mind is blown. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you! ❤
super helpful, ty!
I use nibs from “Daler Rowney” for my Molotow markers. They’re almost identical and work just as good if not better but you can get a pack of 10 nibs for the price of 2 Molotow nibs
Hi sorry I know your comment is hella old but I think this lady isn't around anymore and you seem like you know your stuff so I'ma just shoot my shot. Do you use posca markers? Do you know if the 7M bullet marker and the 8K chisel marker nibs are interchangeable? Like will a 7M bullet nib fit into the 8k marker? I can't find this info anywhere online 😩
❤❤❤😊❤😊😊❤😊❤😊❤😊❤❤😊❤❤😊❤😊😊❤❤😊❤😊❤❤❤❤😊❤❤
They aren't available in my area on Amazon awwww
A latex glove is useful in opening the pens.
Many thanks. I was wondering what to do if one color runs out, and I don't want to buy a whole new set.
Omg we have the same thumbs! So cool to see, my sister had two but i only have one shorter one long! I tell people its magic and thats where all the talent comes from! Very lucky! Anywaygrear video thanks for the info!❤❤🎉
Gorgeous! Thank you!
Thanks so much…helpful
I just can’t seem to make this work.. Did you use anything else with the base layer to make it actually blend, like a liquid white underneath or something? Or am I just too stupid for this?
Marvelous tip about the PT film! I have nerved damage to both my hands & it's worse on my right. That stuff will make a huge difference. I also use spongy silicon grips on my tools so I don;t have to grip them to use them. At least not very hard. I have some with cups for my finger or thumb.
So glad you found that tip useful!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Question.. how do you know if they have been coated with the wax/polish? Is there places they sell them without it? Ty
Scratch the surface with your nail. If you can scrape some waxy residue off you need to clean them before painting them. However, landscaping stores sell natural rocks without this coating.
@kala.escobar.design yeah id prefer to find them without anything on them for my fish tank. I'll look into some nurseries around here for them. Ty
Very concise
Thank you! I teach art to disabled adults and they love paint markers so we blow through them QUICKLY. :)
Very informative video! Thanks you have a new subscriber!
bruh i can’t even get the damn color cap off
perfect video, exactly what i needed! Thank you!!
1up🤑😱🧑🏻🍳
Wow, that was a really good video. Lots of valuable information and info to get the old thinker working. One of those Hmmmm, what can I do with this video.
Hi, do you add water to make it thinner ?
I prefer to use paint that is the right consistency already. Molotow, Ironlak, and Montana brands all make refill paints, or you can open a large Posca and use that to refill the small pens. If I wanted to dilute a paint for a pen, I'd use a medium to thin it rather than water. I like Golden airbrush medium, as it is designed to reduce clogging. Hope that helps! 🙂
@@kala.escobar.design thank you
But how do you bring it back to normal because I just want to make highlights or shadows to my drawing.
You are not going to "bring it back to normal." The idea is to keep one pen in the normal shade, and create highlight/shadow colors in other pens by adding black or white.
You didn't cover the empty one which is what I came for... But the airbrush liquid was a good tip.
What did you want to know about empty pens? 😊
That effect on the rock you did on the video looks nice like a fantasy background. Would look super cute with some little mushrooms on it.
(The yellow and green)
I have done this effect around a moon, with mushrooms in the foreground. 😊
What paint is used to refill?
Can I just refill with regular acrylic paint + medium, no water? I paint dot mandalas and need sturdy lines sometimes.
You can, but I have had mixed results. The biggest issue is that it can be tough to get the right consistency (fairly thin) without making the paint quite transparent. I tend to prefer a small brush or stylus to create shapes other than dots on a mandala...
Very, Very Good video.. thank you for sharing your knowledge in this area!
My 7 M just wont open! Ive tried every way possible of twisting it but it just wont. Does anybody have a tip?
First of all, you turn clockwise to open them, which is the opposite of what we are used to, so check that you are turning the right way. Sometimes they are really caked shut, in which case, I grab a big pair of pliers, which gives a better grip. It will scrape it up, but it usually works. Good luck!!
Thank you for this! I knew someone out there would have the answer. I just bought a 15 lb back of rocks with that coating on them. They're really nice rocks and I wanted to make sure I could paint them!
This video is fantastic! Thanks for the help.
There is a much easier and less time consuming technique to get the same result. She has made this far more difficult and lengthy then needed. Holy crap. I would suggest she, herself, watch other videos on TH-cam. And anyone else who wants to paint a rock or anything like this. I'm exhausted with this video. Geez.
Thank you, I never knew my posca’s were refillable. The grog full metal paint works well, I use it in unbranded aluminium px 20’s
This is so helpful! I'm working on crafts with my aunt, who is living with progressive dementia, and she is SO focused on color. I am tearing my hair out trying to find the right shades in paint PENS and this will be a great help!
Your thought process is incredibly well organized and your delivery on point. Awesome video
So helpful. Best tutorial I’ve seen on paint pens.
Incredibly useful! Thanks.
The bottle seems it would scratch the silicone surface
watched this after knowing how to remove it already, but at 3:19 i learned that I could take that whole thing out, not just the part she started picking at with her nail.
I lowkey just broke my pen and found this LMAO-
Could you do this with air dry clay to?
You could, but it's not waterproof or very tough.
how the hell do u open it? i cant open my posca pens
It opens the opposite way than you'd expect...and you have to turn it hard.
@@kala.escobar.design does mine have to be japanese? because for me, it's all English.
@@mocha-vq8pw They are made the same way, regardless of what language is on the sticker. Turn right to loosen...use pliers if you can't get a good grip.
@The Pop! Artist You can grasp the tip with pliers and yank it out, but you have to be so rough that it's hard not to damage it. Also, there is no way to replace the tip and refilling isn't very feasible because of the design, so I don't think there is much point. Hope that helps! :)
