np Josh. Technology it builds us up and destroys us at the same time. I remember when I was in HS only like 2 of my teachers actually had chalk in the classroom because all the classrooms installed projectors by the time I was in grade 11 so when the projector was like "yeah im not working today" the whole class would be shot (as in no work done) since the teacher didnt have any chalk.
Same here. I remember when they first announced the animated show. I thought Emilio Estevez was going to voice Coach Bombay and it would just be an extension of the films. Then I saw the show and was confused...but I also might have been one of the few who enjoyed the goofiness of it.
I remember watching Mighty Duck the Animated series back in the 90's along with the other Disney series, I just wished that Might Ducks is finally out on complete Blu-Ray at last so I can relived the childhood memories since none of the disney animated series are not on TV anymore.
I first heard of The Mighty Ducks cartoon in 2013 and I have to admit the series is really funny and I watched a few episodes. Now that the full series is streaming on Disney+ I can rewatch and binge the series in good quality.
The Ducks were the first team in California to win the Stanley Cup, and it was the Ducks that really made hockey relevant to younger kids. I know it worked for me. The original logo is one of the best sports logos ever made
I always wondered how this team came about. Thanks for telling this interesting story. I am totally with Joe about these formulaic films, which continue this day. (see also "Boat, Boys in the" ). I think Disney's "Gus," might also have contributed. And, of course, "Bad News Bears" was another early classic of the genre.
5:47 It wasn't the "local Los Angeles ABC affiliate" that Michael Eisner bought in 1989, it was instead independent TV station KCAL-TV, Ch. 9 in Los Angeles, CA, that he bought at that time.
I'll own this one. Totally my fault for writing that into the script for this video. I do want to say that KCAL was used to air all of the Disney Afternoon shows, which does still connect it synergistically with everything else mentioned in the video.
Wooo I definitely liked Joe's Ad-Joecent segment he really took me back with the original TMNT animated series the snippet of the turtles 🐢 first film franchise and Street Sharks 🦈 and Extreme Dinosaur my older brother loved the Dinosaur and Sharks one we even had some action figures I totally disagree with him on Air Bud and it's early franchise before the fluffy kiddie Air Buddies Ones
I think I missed the boat on Extreme Dinosaurs, but I definitely watched Street Sharks. I think outside of TMNT and the Mighty Ducks, that was the only similar show that was highlighted here that I watched. I was unaware of Extreme Dinosaurs until Joe wrote it into the video. Also, I'll let Joe chime in with his Air Bud opinions. He can take the heat for it. LOL
@ModernMouse I was about to be like Joe it's criminal to hate on Air Bud when it was fresh that was like one of my favorite family dog 🐕 movies as a kid next to Beethoven and Shiloh
Look, maybe the early Airbud movies are decent. I just know that the entire franchise has been retroactively tainted because one of my kids made me watch air buddies and Santa buddies, and every other spin off way too many times. But just like Airbud, there’s no rule that says you can’t enjoy those movies, even though I now hate them. So, keep on enjoying them to your heart’s content!
Its funny bc i watched the mighty ducks animated series before seeing the movie, and it wasnt even the first movie but thr sequel. Even then, i didnt make the connecttion and i liked the animated series a lot more. Funny how things turn out.
I actually had a really long discussion about nepotism when the nepo baby articles were running wild. Where I landed is that I have no issue with them but understand why people might, especially in situations where they just aren't capable of the job, but for centuries people were passed down occupations from one generation to the next and nobody talked about it. It's only when the rich do it that we begin hearing discussions around it and while I don't care for everybody who is in entertainment that is a nepo baby, I think the ones that stick around do so on their own merit more than the family name. As for Charlie and Emilio, I agree. I think the whole family is very talented. Outside of personal issues, especially Charlie, they've shown their staying power because of the talent. This is always a good conversation to have though and I'm happy to see other approach it with some nuance rather than writing everyone off.
I was so into all things mighty ducks, i did not question anything lol…i would love a random revival of the show and not just bc it was the source of my furry awakening lol
About a decade later, Warner Brothers did the same thing when they ruined the looney tunes with Loonatics Unleashed. Just because you want another TMNT, doesn't mean it would come out good
I think the Ducks show and Loonatics are a bit different. I think there are two distinct categories to talk about here. The first is finances. While the Ducks might not be the greatest show Disney TV animation was making at the time, it was made to ride the coat tails of TMNT, as were so many other shows at the time. Because they struck while the iron was hot, the show made a lot of money and extended the brand out. Loonatics didn't come along for a few years so it ended up losing money. The second is quality, which both the Ducks and Loonatics lack and there they are probably equals. Disney was smart. Not everything made has to be quality, but it has to make business sense. As a short term deal, the show made a lot of money, never really hurt the brand, created some interesting lore for fans of the show that still exists, and extended the life of the Ducks as a franchise. WB on the other hand didn't have quality or finacial success, and they used existing well loved characters, hurting the overall brand of the Looney Tunes. I hope that all makes sense and thanks for the comment!
Great video guys. Two things. The Mighty Ducks show had some pretty great Happy Meal toys. They were hockey pucks with ball bearings on the bottom and a bust of each character on top. They were pretty well made for a $2 toy. Secondly, It must have taken a lot of restraint for you to not play the whole Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos intro. It's possibly the greatest piece of comedy ever created. They started replaying that show on Cartoon Network in the mid 2000's and a recording of the intro sat on my parents DVR for over a decade. TOO MUCH.
I think I being up those happy meal toys in the video podcast on Patreon & TH-cam members (not to promote it, I'm just saying it was acknowledged) because I remember having them and thinking they were top tier for McDonalds toys. I also laughed real hard at the Chuck Norris theme, and honestly, if I thought I could get away with showing the whole thing I would!
I've heard rumblings of this but no official word right? To be honest, inside of the store at the arena it was a mess of logos. If I didn't know what the current logo actually was and you asked me to point out which one it is, I couldn't tell you.

You didn't mention Jennifer Hale or ****** KYLE KATARN was in this show, AS A DUCK WITH A LIGHTSABER! BOTH MAIN CHARACTERS! What the hell man?!?

That Disney Afternoon ring tone 🔥
I knew someone would catch it!
Another awesome video Josh you certainly did make my Sunday morning 🌄 with this one remarkable as always do you know if Mighty Ducks is on Disney +
It is on Disney+ if you want to spend your time watching most of it like I did for this video
@ModernMouse I'll definitely check it out and relive the Nostalgia of the Disney Duck series
Even as a kid I was confused by this combination of hockey, live action movie, and the cartoon
Same here. I remember when they first announced the animated show. I thought Emilio Estevez was going to voice Coach Bombay and it would just be an extension of the films. Then I saw the show and was confused...but I also might have been one of the few who enjoyed the goofiness of it.
So happy this is out. Been so excited for this to be dropped.
Thanks for the feedback while it was a work in progress

It Premiered on toon Disney because technically toon Disney was the original before Disney Channel
I'm gonna ask Bob Iger to announced and produced the new film adaptation of Jeff Smith's "Bone" with Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2D animation.
The Ducks were the first team in California to win the Stanley Cup, and it was the Ducks that really made hockey relevant to younger kids. I know it worked for me. The original logo is one of the best sports logos ever made
Going from the classic "skull and crossbones" logo to the current logo is the biggest downgrade I've ever witnessed in my life.

It's not nearly as bad now as it was in the 90s and early 00s. I feel like the majority of live action kids movies were this exact premise.

23:45 Ill be honest FOR YEARS growing up in the 2000s I thought this was a fever dream I had because NO ONE I knew had ever heard of this show.
you are safe and sane here
@@ModernMouse lol thx for the reassurance.
Again, I come here for this kind of content that teaches me about Disney related history/analysis that I had not known about before 👏🏽
And Again, I thank you for coming by, watching, learning, and having fun with my silly little videos!
I personally consider myself a fan because of the potential of the show. The show itself was weak, but it COULD work with enough care.
Hey!!
That animated series was my Go-To when I would fake sick & my mommy would make me chicken soup
I even had all the figurines
You talked about everything around The Mighty Ducks but barely about the cartoon itself, its characters, lore, story, ending...
I actually LOVE the mighty ducks game changers.
As an aside.
Hardcore nostalgia
You might be one of only two people I've heard from who have watched that show. Most people I talk with don't even know about it.
I'm Normally not a fan of nepo-babys. But I will admit that I think Charlie and Emilio are just as talented as their father Martin.

It was weird, but in a good way
DUCKS ROCK!!!!!!
How did I not say this the entire video! We fit JAWSOME! in and not DUCKS ROCK! Major fail on out part LOL
"First big franchise"...like Herbie didn't crash for our sins...
I nearly spit out my coffee reading this comment. Fantastic! Bravo!
It’s called SYNERGY 😭
Sin-ergy ;-)
I was so into all things mighty ducks, i did not question anything lol…i would love a random revival of the show and not just bc it was the source of my furry awakening lol
Also i knew I wasn’t crazy - Bobby was based on a real guy lol! And wasn’t there a Louie cartoon as well??

They were worth talking about because they were memorable!
The Ducks are going to Rebranding in 2 years.
