Hey this is a very good informative video. I was wondering if you can confirm that the front right side swaybar link of an F3x can be used on the front right side of a G2x. Pls let me know. Thanks
You think the F3X sway bars would fit the G2X RWD? Because the RWD model is a US-only spec, there are no aftermarket sways for RWD from what I can tell. Would be nice if existing aftermarket F3X sway bars would fit...
For rear sway bars the G2x RWD and AWD ones are interchangeable. The fronts aren't however. I don't think G2x and F3x front sway bars are interchangeable.
Hi there, I've been driving the G20 for about a year now, the suspension is very stiff (non-adaptive) my back and whole body is hurting (as the roads in my country is not very good). My question is will the F30 dampers work on G20 ? (as the dampers are much more comfortable) Any other suggestions to soften the suspension ? Thank you
I'm not sure F2x/F3x dampers will work on the G2x. The damper stroke length may be different due to the different springs G2x uses (they don't use F2x/F3x springs). Do you have the G2x base suspension?
@@FaRKle0079 Yes im using the M-Sport base suspension. If im not mistaken there is only Non adaptive and Adaptive suspension. Will the F30 Dampers work ? I just wanna swap it for better comfort because the suspension is very stiff.
could you a regular 330 suspension vs 330 m sport suspension comparison, please? i have a 2020 330 m sport and its way too stiff for me. im wondering if i should change suspension or change my R19 run-flats to R18, non run flats.
Hrm, interesting thought! I definitely hadn't considered that. Whatever the aftermarket does, the clamping section will have to be pretty compact, or all the clamping bolts offset towards the outside.
I have a 2017 340x with stock suspension and i had the front driver side strut collapse (according to dealer) and had to do a whole big repair on it. Do you think the g20 generation suspension is built better with the redesign? I heard the f30 had a design flaw thats prone to damage similar to mine.
@@M.deleon OK that sounds like what I was describing. If you hit a pot hole or other obstacle hard enough the knuckle can get pushed up higher on the strut and the bottom of the strut can contact the CV boot and front axle. The G20 has the same clamp style knuckle as the F30, so that failure mode is still possible. That said, I wouldn't call it a design flaw as you have to hit something pretty darn hard to do that. I hit curbing on the track and all sorts of bumps when off roading and haven't had any issue. Having tires with more sidewall (18" instead of 19" or 20" wheels) helps a lot too.
@@M.deleon M-Sport doesn't make a difference. For F30 xDrive vehicles in particular the suspension with the M-Sport package isn't any different than without it, unless you option the Adaptive-M suspension. None of those changes though would make it more susceptible to the failure you experienced. You're definitely not the first (or last) to have this kind of damage from NYC pot holes!
Suspension-wise I'd say the build quality is about the same as the F2x/F3x generation (which I think was pretty good). Some areas that seemed to be better are the damper hex counterholds (don't seem like they'll strip as easily as the F3x ones did), and the rear damper top mount holes are centered better (F3x had a very wide tolerance). Those are pretty minor things and really don't matter unless you're taking it apart though.
@@papoopa5800 I'm not sure how many miles you cover in 10 years, but my guess would be you'd need some new suspension bushings (usually the whole arm is replaced because it's cheaper/faster than just doing the bushing), maybe shock absorbers, and battery aside from normal maintenance in that time frame. The BMW drivetrains (engine, transmission, differential, and axles) are pretty solid these days.
I've got a question Which suspension is more comfortable(soak up bumps and road imperfections smoothly)between... G20 standard vs F30 standard And G20 Msport vs F30 Msport?
That'd be interesting if E9x rear bars fit. I'd try to do a mockup and some measurements first to see if it'll clear everything on the F30. Is it 22mm solid or hollow? 22mm solid would be way too stiff of a bar for the F30 chassis.
After seeing this videos, I'm a little scaried about lowering my F30. I was looking for smaller bump stops. Them we see bmw putting bigger bumpstops at G20.
You do an excellent job with your videos! Well done!
Thanks Bryan!

Very useful and no nonsense presentation. Thanks for doing these videos.
Dude that was a totally awesome overview of the suspension! So incredibly knowledgeable!
I don’t own this series. But you had my undivided attention. Yeah, you certainly have a gift for presenting such videos. Gets a 👍 from me. 🇬🇧
This was great to watch, thank you sir
You're doing amazing job.

Just bought a quickjack 6000elx which they built for these crazy wide jack points.

Interesting.. My m340 barely fits the 6000. the 6000 is way to long for my friends m240.
I like the suspension on the 2021 330i more than my 2018 328d. The 330 had stiffer suspension, and no body roll.
I have a g26 with adaptive suspension. Front spring is labeled A7 and the bump stop looks like the f30 bump stop
Good info!

With those tiny top mounts, it doesn't look like there will be any way to do camber plates.

When you say it "collapsed" do you mean it pushed through the knuckle after hitting something like a big pot hole?
FaRKle0079 yea i remember being told that because of the collapse, something started hitting the axle as well

It doesn't. The front is a MacPherson strut and the rear is a five arm multi-link arrangement.
