      @@emilchandran546 And now there are rumors about F1 going two-stroke.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      What's really crazy is, 2-strokes have been at that level of output since the 90s. The NSR500 GP bike is said to have made "upwards of" 200hp, from 500cc obviously. When they brought in the 4-strokes, they were allowed 990cc to compete with the old 500s. Of course double-displacement is a big advantage so the 2-strokes were quickly phased in favor of 4-stroke "technology". A similar thing happened in motocross. Dirty tricks.

    • @robinhooduk8255
      @robinhooduk8255 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@JETZcorp im pretty sure youve never owned an on road 2 stroke. the HP or lower weight was never the reason they were phased out, it also wasnt emissions, it was maintenance of having to open up the engine all the time and change piston rings or risk seizing the engine. ive seized an engine going 90mph and locking the back wheel, thank god i was on a straight road and not in a corner or i would be dead.
      in 10yrs of motogp development after the last 2 stroke road bikes were developed no real progress was made on the core issues with 2 strokes, if F1 chose to use them it would be a total waste of time as wouldnt do anything as a testbed for normal car technology.
      i do love 2 strokes and if lotto gods blessed me id have them in a dream garage, but as transport they are too much work and can kill you if not kept up to date.
      i cant see it happening in a million years, the only thing great would be the mega sound a 2stroke f1 car would make.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@robinhooduk8255 Dude, my profile pic is literally my own on-road 2-stroke. I've got a bunch of videos of me riding it. I have to question your knowledge on these things if you think worn rings causes seizure. A worn-out engine is least likely to seize due to the lower compression and wider end-gap. Seizure is decidedly most common on a fresh, tight top-end. I don't know what went wrong with yours, but if it needed you to "open it up all the time" then you had some other issues going on. In my experience a 2-stroke top end should last many years if not decades, and the rebuild process is cheap and takes less than 1 hour. I'd rather rebuild the top-end on my Kawasaki Triple than replace the spark plugs on my Dodge - it's such an easy job. 2 of my off-road bikes still have their stock 1967 bore and rings. That kind of longevity isn't typical, but it is certainly possible if the machine is not grossly abused.

That is why everyone says, if you can drive a shifter kart well, you can drive anything. Just look at the Formula one field. All the young drivers are only a year or so out of karting. BTW, there is nothing more fun than when you are learning to drive at a competitive level.

      What about a 150-hp 150-mph hybrid-powered kart (instant torque, full-EV capability, aircraft-carrier acceleration thanks to traction control)... that would be ludicrous.

    I've driven one and S#!t a brick is what happened to me!!! It made my eyeballs bounce around in my head, how I could see where I was going is any ones guess, and I didn't stop shaking for ten minutes after I got out of the thing. Brutal and violent but an unforgettable experience.

    O own two superkart, one with Gasgas engine for short track, and yes its faster than a twin cylinder due to that the twin cylinder with kart track gearing is to violent and hard to control on a cart track.
    The other beast has an Aprilia RXV 550 engine, and is for use on long tracks, it´s have circa 85HP slightly less than a twin cylinder.
    But on the other hand, it will run all the time, and not fall to pieces all the time.
    The driving experience, compare it to, the video when Senna is charging att Monaco, there is som good clips here.
    I prefer short tracks because of all the action, long tracks its not so demanding.
    Best regards from Sweden, Göran.
