My boi Corax is just so stealthy that he hid his place on this list. That being said in terms of fighting prowess he’s one of the best even before he became a bird demon thing after accepting his true nature on a fight his abuility to go invisible is a great boon to confuse the enemy and he was a good fighter even when not ambushing or assassinating I’d say pre bird demon he was comparable to Curze. Now I’m not saying he could beat the Lion or Sanguinius but he definitely deserves a spot on the top 10 most powerful especially after going bird demon mode I’d say he’s a match for the Lion or Sanguinius then, but that is just speculation. Tl;dr: Corax used his stealth to hide his placement on this list, but the raven lord is always where you don’t expect him.
@@secondarytrollaccount Not really true , Corvus didnt run from Konrad he just didnt want to battle two Primarchs (Lorgar and Kurze) while fighting an already losing battle on Istvaan and Corvus victory against lorgar was the swiftest win in any Primarch v Primarch battle.
The simple fact of Warhammer lore is that no single Primarch, baring possibly Sanguinius, is guaranteed to always defeat any other Primarch given various mental states, situational advantages, and more. Making a single placement list such as this one ultimately moot. The more broadly accurate way to list out Primarch duelist ability to is list them as a set of Tiers. Tier 1 being the greatest duelists who could conceivably all beat each other depending on battlefields, support or any other situational advantage. Tier 4 would be the lowest tier of Primarch without much in the way of dueling ability. Tier 4 would nearly always lose a battle against any higher tier of Primarch but could conceivably defeat other Primarchs of their own tier. Given the proper situational advantage a tier below should be capable of defeating a higher tier of Primarch though would lost a straight up fight most every time. It should also be noted that this list is more interesting before Daemonhood as Daemon Primach abilities vary wildly depending on the source of canon you look at. The Heresy setting, when all the brothers are on a more consistent footing, is my preferred way of looking at them. With those parameters: Tier 1: Sanguinius, The Lion, Konrad Curze, Leman Russ, Horus, Tier 2: Fulgrim, Jaghatai, Rogal Dorn, Corvus Corax, Angron Tier 3: Vulkan, Mortarion, Alpharius, Perturabo, Ferrus Manus Tier 4: Lorgar, Guilliman, Magnus Again, Sanguinius being the outlier in most every case, each Primarch in each Tier would have a fighting chance at beating each other Primarch inside their own tier, and could punch up to a higher tier if properly prepared. Magnus is the second outlier besides Sanguinius though for a different reason. He is clearly among the worst physical combatants though also clearly far more powerful than any of his brothers. His defeats are nearly always due to the intervention of blanks to dampen his power and bring him back to tier 4. Without Blanks in the picture, there is a strong case to be made that Magnus is far and away the strongest combatant as he simply doesnt need to physically fight but would win the battles with his mind, and he has no equal in that category. Im fairly confident in both Tier 1 and Tier 4, but there are plenty of solid arguments for movement within 2 and 3. Still, this is where im landing on the matter for now. Love to hear arguments to move them around however.
theres a cool moment in 'the crimson king' where a shard of magnus (his belligerence, i believe) mind controlled servitors to kill a sister of silence. being distracted in battle is what got him against russ, but hypothetically could use corvidae powers to be aware of the sisters prescence (unless their blank nature hides even that, maybe he can see their vacuum nature) and prepare beforehand. i feel people forget magnus also has access to future sight, just different to kurze and sanguinius
vulkan can beat most of those above him simply because of him being already near impossible to kill, along with being perpetual and the massive strength differance
I would put the khan and vulkan tier 1, I would say horus is actually tier 2. I think he was a great general, but as a duelist, i would say he is tier 2. The khan simply because he beat warp juice mortarion.
The Lion is considered one of, if not the most martial of all the Primarchs. Horus went out of his way to make sure he was no where near the uprisings so he wouldn't have to deal with him on the battlefield. Lets also add in, he took of Angron in his full daemon price form. He is the 1st primarch and he was the best.

While I like the list, I feel Sanguinius and Lion both would mess Horus up worst than they messed up Angron. Horus was extremely charismatic and a magnificent leader but, well, there was a reason he prepared Signus prime to handle Sanguinius and he sent Lion to the Ghouls Stars, the farthest corners of the galaxy. Also, I think Corax should be on Konrad's place. Raven boy is.... Well, a beast. Also, Jagathai should be on Fulgrim's place. The Khan tends to be brutally underestimated, which is part of his tactic.

Curse is undeniably one of the strongest Primarchs, and is one of the very few Russ said he didn’t think he could beat. Where as Corax hasn’t really done anything super notable in terms of demonstrating combat prowess.

Pre-heresy, only Lorgar and the Twins would have lost in a direct fight against the Night Haunter. People like to think Batboy is an amazing fighter, but his specialty was terror, fear, horror, and shock. His ability to see the future was great, and all, but people take Leman´s words too seriously. Leman Russ is a great warrior, but he is prideful and looks down on most of his siblings, and while he said there were only two primarchs that could beat him, Sangui and Konrad, he never fought either of them. He shat on Magnus, and he came very close to killing Russ. I would argue that Russ didn’t even know how dangerous the Khan or Morty were, and he underestimated Vulkan immensely. Plus, Lion did beat him, and while the Hour of the Wolf with Angron was a messy thing; one on one, Angron had the upper hand, even if Russ could have wiped his legion out. Also, Ferrus was a BEAST. Don’t get me wrong, Konrad is dangerous, but if you cannot see what you are fighting, seeing the future isn´t going to help you much. Corax almost killed Lorgar on Itsavann, a Lorgar already empowered by the warp after his pilgrimage, and only retreated after he was two on one, and surrounded by astartes and tanks. And all of this refraining from mentioning Corvus post-heresy, which is a living nightmare.

Russ stating that he’d lose to Curze even with his arrogant nature is a testament to how strong Curze was, and only adds to the potency of the statement, not take away from it. Lion is the most martially skilled of all the Primarchs, and widely accepted as second to ONLY Sang in over all combat capability. Curze fought Lion 4 times, each fight was close, with Cruze even managing to beat him the first time around, and the third time being a close fight DESPITE it being both Lion and Guilliman Jumping Curze at the same time. You don’t really seem to have a argument here against Curze’s combat prowess, and just seem to be shitting on him just for the sake of it. Curze fought more Primarch then any other, and won almost every single fight he had with his brothers. His place as one of the strongest is entirely undeniable. Also Curze literally beat Vulkan, repeatedly, and then captured and tortured him. Curze straight Killed Vulkan repeatedly over the course of their first fight. The second fight Vulkan won because Curze wasn’t prepared for a fight, and third fight Curze basically No Diffed Vulkan.
Top 5 list 1. Sang (he fought like crazy and didn't fight horus until after he was wounded and exhausted) 2. Horus chaos. 3. Lion ( I believe the lion could beat chaos horus but only because lion against any chaos person is just crazy but I believe against other primarchs or just feats and stuff horus is stronger) 4. Russ. Guy is just weaker than lion and his fighting is brutal and unorthodox but very effective. 5.vulkan, his strength, weapons and armor,regen are crazy and pretty much carrying him into this spot. Honorable mentions Magnus end of crusade. He was so insanely powerful but like his feats and other things make him hard to truly gage. Konrad he was the person I debated on the most to be number 5 but in the end I choose vulkan. Pleasure snake he has insane regen and is very skilled but the regen alone can carry him into number 5 but his insecurities and obsessions kinda hold him back a lot.

People laugh about Lemun breaking Magnus spine, but they often forget that the outcome of their fight was completly uncertain until the very end, while Magnus was handicapped by focusing his psykic powers on defending the last surviors of his Legion instead of hurling a miniature sun at his brother.
Half the Primarchs literally have weapons or armor that entirely negates Psyker powers - not to mention, since Mangus' soul was split into shards, and many of them lost. He's a weakboi

Conrad Curze fought more primarchs than anyone else and won constantly. He fought multiple primarchs at once and won. 1v1 Curze in his prime could kill any brother. He was big, strong, could fight, and had foresight.
But psychotic insane enjoyed murdering too much. But imagine going into every fight knowing you was not going to die here. Not now, not against that opponent ? I would place him 4th

i wonder how future sights would interact with each other with the primarchs- if anyone has read mistborn, the way the near future interactions work is when 2 people are using it, multiple projections are shown, effectively negating it i guess that would only effect sanguinius, kurze and partially magnus (considering he can use all his cults' psyker abilities, such as the Corvidae)
Kurze had future sight which made him virtually invincible due to him predicting the movements of others, and therefore responding accordingly. however in a fight against the Lion, Kurze failed and was defeated by the Lion due to the Lion's instincts being so overpowered that any time Kurze predicted the Lion's attack and made a move to counter/take advantage of it, the Lion just switched his attack and countered Kurze's counter. bit of brain fck, but it is the Lion, what can one do 😂

Kurze and Sanguinius fought to a standstill. Mind you, Sangi only wore a robe, and Kurze said he didn't think he could beat him. (The fight ended when Kurze threw a blood angel out the window to distract Sangi)
That's a good analogy to the Mistborn. Two beings with foresight would just see infinite possibilities and choices effectively creating a blur. Which begs the question...they might still choose correctly the path of victory within the blurred foresight, so did their foresight influence that choice? With Curze he didn't give a shit what the outcome was of anything, AS long as it didn't effect his execution. Even the Lion used this fact to prove Terra still stood.
I love how everyone’s list is just not touching the golden angel boy at the top. Like at this point top 2 and below is interchangeable but if you put sangy anywhere below 1 you bout to commit heresy
The Khan and Guilliman both belong on this list, probably at 5 and 7 respectively. The Khan is known for his ability as a duellist, probably around Fulgrim’s level, mad that he isn’t here. Guilliman not featuring is somewhat excusable, as he is the Horus heresy equivalent of The Avatar of Khaine/ Swarmlord (most likely due to being alive in 40k), however, if you look at all of his Primarch fights, the odds have been against him, he rarely went out of his way to seek out 1v1 combat, meaning he usually entered duels without the initiative - it is explicitly stated that (admittedly before any chaos shenanigans) only four or five of his brothers could beat him in a duel - most likely the Lion, Russ, Sanginius and Horus (for my money the Khan and Fulgrim would also take him). Hell, he survived fighting both powered up Lorgar and Angron, exchanging fairly even blows with both of them, which other Primarchs could pull that off?? It’s also worth mentioning that in both editions of the tabletop game - Bobby has been in the top 5 duellists mathematically speaking (although I fully accept that to some people this means nothing…) The biggest issue with this list (which is otherwise fairly solid) is Dorn being here, I love Rogal, but also think that if the writers hadn’t shit the bed by having Dorn kill Alpharius (or did he?????) Corvus, Perty and Ferrus would comfortably be seen as better than Dorn, sadly a confirmed Primarch Kill does help a lot! It’s a shame, because realistically Corvus (especially in demon-bird form) would absolutely tear through Dorn…
So we just ignoring the fact that perturabo took multiple full swings from daemon angron and still kicked his ass BEFORE becoming a dawmon primarch? Ok. Also some of you may say he cheated because of his robots, but his robots are just an extension of him that he controls mentally so it totally counts.
Honestly most people probably don't want to hear it but, jagadai, fulgrim and one or two other primarchs were not given overpowered weapons and armor by the emperor, chances are if they were as blessed as rogal dorn or russ, they would probably be much better but most people don't want to hear that.

@@pipspud I mean also there's another thing to consider with those two, The laughing God switched their predetermined planets... I'm assuming it is because he was aware of how strong they were and the role that they were meant to play which inevitably caused a lot of chaos and issues for the traitor legion and loyalist faction. I would love to see the other legions receive more love, the blue-boys get entirely too much attention. Another thing to consider about fulgrim he was sent to investigate horus, if Horus was indeed a traitor he was also trusted with havingthe physical power to put him down. Fulgrim got shot through the eye and into the brain which canonical would have killed the vast majority of primarchs and he recovered extremely fast. I really hope they do something with his clone, the emperor's children need more love I'm starting to get a little bit annoyed.
The lord of the 1st should always be 1st! That being said Corax I think should be on here. He is basically 1v1ing the warp while trying to hunt down another primarch. Most people avoid the warp he is basically battle charged it, turned into a huge ass kicking bird thing all in the name of vengeance which is just awesome.

I feel this is an excellent reference point, i move the Khan higher aswell as Dorn sangi and lion are first leman and horus probably second. Say what you will Russ had a kill shot lined up on Juice Papa horus and didn’t take it
Problem with this is it relies on lore and the lore is warped to favour the "good" primarchs. Lorgar is shown to speak a word and have angron thrown around like a ragdoll yet when against robute, somehow he is shown to be on the back foot. Perty overall has immense strength, u matched strategic and tactical mind, insane armour and weaponry and a focused mind to wnsure he is not distracted. He pretty much kept the traitor legions in line and coordinated, which is ridiculously impressive. H eis undoubtedly one of the most dangerous primarchs in my mind but all he recieves is "daddy issues" nonsense from people. All that is far more impressive that simply being a good dualist. Also, khan is top 3 no question
Change Angron to Khan in my opinion. Can't even kill a half faced tired Guilliman. *Angron is still good for a time until Guilliman used words to provoke him and Lorgar turning him to demon, I know it's plot armor for Guilliman but still plenty of time to swat a battered Guilliman, if Angron is 8 that makes Guilliman 10, which would be wrong because there is the Khan, Horus and Mortarion which are also no slouch at battle prowess. And also Corax even though his not one of the best he believes he can defeat Conrad (which is pretty high on the list for fighting lion and Guilliman) if his mind is clear at the time. in terms of strength okay, but battle prowess 8 is high 10 would be good, don't get angry at me Magnus fans but come on losing to sisters of silence Guilliman and space marines, also being empowered by chaos and one of the most powerful psykker that's 11 for me, 9/10 Angron. 9/10 Dorn 8 Khan (this guy is one of the duelist, and is confident enough to say he can defeat Fulgrim, I don't even know if 8 is a fair rank)
@@kelakogreenaddict1888 yeah it's really unbalanced like how the Khan is known for his Common Sense and just never returns for 10k years when he for sure knows the primarch is needed very much because of what happened to the emperor, on Magnus though I think they have a hard time formulating a use for him. In a way for me it's hard to rank him and it just made me put him on the lower because of how the lore progress in 40k. If the authors are adamant on lowering his powers though I'd really put him 11 in rankings.

Corax and the Khan are vastly underrated. They could both kill some primarchs on the list. Leman is overrated. He could be beaten by Sanguinius, lion, Magnus ( 1v1 no blank ) the Khan, Corvus and maybe Fulgrim
As usual, Corax is sort of forgotten and not understood enough. He’s in the warp (and living) and making his fellow primarch run away in terror. The same guy he didn’t just beat, he decisively mopped the floor with Lorgar’s body. Yes lorgar is the worst fighter. No argument found here (or anywhere). But he also was able to do that while Kurze came into shank him and got away. Name any other primarch that has survived a 2 v 1. But his main thing, is that he can straight up go invisible. That ability alone would win him 75% of primarch fights by default. Most wouldn’t even know their beheading was coming. For what its worth, the lion and the khan are high up the list. IMO, Russ is well loved by fans, but his ranking is overstated. He’s above mid tier, but isn’t top tier. I love Sanguinius, but i think that’s another inflation. Still top tier, but not top top tier. IMO, one of his primarch traits is his likeability. Everyone reveres him from commoners to his own (often jealous and salty) brothers. But they all get along and like Sanguinius. We always hear the legend of his greatness. But, i think everyone’s opinion in universe was flawed in their ability to perceive him. We know the emps could do this. I suspect Sanguinius has this power to some extent. People point to his work at the gates of terra fighting daemons. Daemons are cheap plot points to imply strength, but which are lore-expendable. Primarchs aren’t. He also knew that wasn’t his fate. That can embolden you, especially if you have a berserker style of combat. He has also lost his only primarch fight he ever fought. Sure it was Horus. The other guy everyone revered for his legend, but maybe wasn’t all he cracked up to be. But russ beat elevated horus. Sanguinius didnt. (and russ lost to Angron). How would that be possible if he was that tier?

I will never understand why some people think that Horus is the most powerful one just because well he was like favourite "son" a "warmaster". So what? Also I won't agree about the Slanesh lover (well sorry I don't like traitor primarchs, they look like bunch of losers just with some gifts from the chaos gods). So IMHO TOP 3 could Russ, Sanguinius, Lion. Also it would be better to rank them before the heresy without the good stuff from gods or the artifact sword that was used by Fulgrim.
This video made the same mistake all the primarchs did. The primarchs seen to fight the least by others and the one they all respect and some fear. Jaghatai Khan is 3rd on my list. Then sang then Horus. 4th lion, 5th angron 6 fulgrim 7th would be corvus 8 would be Conrad and finally at the bottom would be mortarion.
Let's do a tier list as requested: This is a list pre-heresy, as the deamon primarchs abilities are ridiculously unpredictable and op. This is based on a one on one fight, with the full intention to kill each other and "limiters" removed. I will start at the top: 1. Sanguinius, hands down, shown to have the greatest amount of feats and power, defeating a greater demon and then going toe to toe whilst tired and injured with chaos infused aangron, puts him at the top by far, precog abilities similar to curze. You eve. Have the lion ceeding the throne to him and Russ, the executioner, stating that he couldn't beat him in a fight. 2. The lion, greatest duelist of them all, an ability that almost seems as if he can change fate, or at the very least, react faster than thought. Whilst he did need the special shield to do it, he beat a very powerful demon aangron, after having a snooze for 10k years. 3. Magnus the red. With all limitations removed Magnus is a psyker of such unbelievable power, implied to be stronger than malcador, who easily subdued Horus with psychic might. With no restrictions he could ruin most others. Whilst he was beaten by Russ, this is more of a situation that Russ is the natural counter to him. 4. Curze: a complete wild card and with strong precog, he easily takes the 4th spot, Curze even managed to beat the lion once in a fight, and even Russ stated he may not be able to beat him, due to the madness he exhibits. No holds barred and nothing is off limits to him. 5. Leman Russ. The executioner is incredible in combat, and only bested by the others simply due due to their abilities just being too much. Often seen as a fool, this has been revealed as a mask he wears to have people underestimate him. Whilst he could not defeat Horus when infused with chaos without the spear and some help, he was able to go toe to toe with him in combat and gain the upper hand. And likely could have defeated aangron if he wasn't trying to make a point and also wasn't holding back 6. Vulkan, the kindest and possibly gentlest primarchs, also the strongest. Letting him cut loose completely would allow him to defeat nearly anyone in single combat. 7The Khan: his speed and unreadable expressions make him difficult to face in single combat, even able to make orks flee from him with his power on display. 8. Corax: whilst we don't see a huge amount from him, he was recognized as a powerful opponent and his stealth abilities were second to none and he was recognized as a superior combatant by many. 9. Mortarion. Even more heresy, he was formiddible, using an unwieldy weapon and being a master of it, if he took of his own limiters of psychic ability... Who knows how much more powerful he could become. 10. Ferrus Manus, leading the istvan 4 assault, recognized as a leader and if fulgrim had not been empowered, would have defeated him. He is often looked down upon for being killed, but that's a testament to fulgrims empowered state, not Manus overall ability
I'd put Magnus to be number 1, only if he got to use all his psychic might obviously. Dude could jeet titans around like I jeet around the neighbor's annoying kid. Note: I'm talking about late Crusade early Heresy state primarchs.

Now ofc Russ fans see him above Angron, but I believe in a straight up fight where intelligence didn't matter, Angron could have defeated all of his fellow primarchs or at least had a good chance of doing so. Also I believe Curze should be in those top 5, he's the most dangerous and unpredictable out of the primarchs (he would probably win by throwing sand in someone's eyes or just backstabbing them, you know, typical Night Lords stuff lol)
Curze shouldn't be on the list, he's incredible, but only when fighting on his own terms(which he manages to do pretty often), in a fight on an open field he would get bodied by the majority of his brothers(his precognition is random and as far as im aware his fight with the lion was the only time his precog activated during fights) as he's physically a pretty weak primarch Rogal Dorn is pretty good, but the Khan and Ferrus deserve to be put on the list much more than him (btw im not taking daemon forms or chaos buffs into account) 1. Magnus the Red(one of the weakest fighters, but insanely overpowered bc of his psyker abilities) 2. Sanguinius(duh) 3. Leman Russ(equal but imo slightly more powerful than the lion, bc I think him almost killing chaos-buffed horus is more impressive than any of the lion's fights) 4. Lion el'Jonson(equal to Russ and can definitely see why most people rate him higher) 5. Ferrus Manus(was winning against Fulgrim and would've killed him if not for the Laer blade, also wrestled the emperor and rated very highly among the other primarchs) 6. Vulkan(easily bodied Curze and claims he held back against his brothers during sparring) 7. Fulgrim(top-tier swordsman I feel like I don't have to explain why he's on the lisr) 8. Angron(pretty overrated as a fighter, his daemon form gets bodied by everyone, Russ baited him, and Guilliman held his own pretty good, but it's still Angron so he's in the top 10) 9. Jaghatai Khan(incredible swordsman similar to Fulgrim, idk how he wasn't placed on the list???) 10. Horus(even while chaos boosted him, without Horus using magic powers Russ almost killed him, and before chaos boosted him he never really showed himself to be a top tier fighter, but he's still one of the biggest and strongest primarchs)
In 40k? Specifically? Dude, most of this list is gonna be inhabited by daemons, not gonna lie. It'd probably be: - Mortarion - Magnus (though inconsistently written) - Fulgrim - Lion'el - Angron - Perturabo (also inconsistent, but his bullshit would place him higher) - Aurelian - Guilliman

Perturabo defeated Demon Angron and a half-dead Perturabo defeated half-ascended Fulgrim. He should be on this list just because of that, however I get being ignored is pretty much his whole lore.
@Blzrd224 had to think A bit about that, but there are 3 points I feel need mentioning. 1. The lion got a lot better at fighting through the heresy, he went from losing to Konrad Curze pretty clearly and being on par with Leman Russ to being able to pretty comfortably defeat Curze, so pre heresy should be weaker (I included the end of heresy version) 2. Angron was a demon primarch, so a very different character with different strengths and abilities than regular angron 3. It's 40k not horus heresy. He had the emperors shield, is older, has a different fighting style, appears in stories written by different people... I don't like mixing these two storylines in those discussions, but I can see why you could have the lion a big higher on the basis of his 40k feats in your list.
Perturabo beat Daemon Primarch Angron and humbled Fulgrim. He isn't know for dueling, because admitted duels are stupid. On the table top he's a powerhouse that can crush most other Primarchs, losing out mathammer to a small handful. He did lose to Daemon Primarch Mortarian, but that was due to the Aura of decay alone.
That whole "Lion defeated Leman" thing is very iffy. Leman started to laugh when he noted how embarrasing the situation was and stopped fighting. The Lion on the other hand was still angry and smashed Leman unconscuious. Understandable in the situation they were in. However, the absolute bitch move from the Lion came when he stabbed a defenseless Leman after the siege of Terra after saying himself "It was never finished, that duel". Although flawed himself, as a brother and man Leman stood high above Mr. buthurt Lion. I agree that the Lion in his prime is a bit better at fighting than Leman. But saying "he won against Leman" is wrong.
sang is definitely number 1 but yeah lion is definitely a contender for second I'll have to say full power magnus is a contender due to his insane psyker abilities. Of course lion sees or feels chaos in you the battle is already lost. (Lion being my favorite)
Horus is not the strongest primach. Lionel Johnson is! Horus went out of his way to make sure Lionel Johnson was on the other side of the galaxy when he wanted to take Terra. Horus couldn't carry Lionel Johnsons dick let alone beat him in a fight!
In my boy Angron's defence, he did win against Russ. This list is most powerful primarch, not primarch and legion, because without the killzone Russ made with his astartes, angron would have won 1v1. The only 1v1 Angron legit lost was against sanguinius and lion

Sorry but Russ is more powerful in the lore than the Lion if you look at his deeds. He beat Magnus and his legion, he beat a supped up Chaos powered Horus that beat the Emperor, he probably took on the lost Primarchs. The Lion sucker punched the Lion twice, didn't beat him fairly. Angron at least beat Russ in CC even though he lost the greater battle he also beat Guilliman, yet you have him at 8.

My boi Corax is just so stealthy that he hid his place on this list. That being said in terms of fighting prowess he’s one of the best even before he became a bird demon thing after accepting his true nature on a fight his abuility to go invisible is a great boon to confuse the enemy and he was a good fighter even when not ambushing or assassinating I’d say pre bird demon he was comparable to Curze. Now I’m not saying he could beat the Lion or Sanguinius but he definitely deserves a spot on the top 10 most powerful especially after going bird demon mode I’d say he’s a match for the Lion or Sanguinius then, but that is just speculation.
Tl;dr: Corax used his stealth to hide his placement on this list, but the raven lord is always where you don’t expect him.

The simple fact of Warhammer lore is that no single Primarch, baring possibly Sanguinius, is guaranteed to always defeat any other Primarch given various mental states, situational advantages, and more. Making a single placement list such as this one ultimately moot. The more broadly accurate way to list out Primarch duelist ability to is list them as a set of Tiers. Tier 1 being the greatest duelists who could conceivably all beat each other depending on battlefields, support or any other situational advantage. Tier 4 would be the lowest tier of Primarch without much in the way of dueling ability. Tier 4 would nearly always lose a battle against any higher tier of Primarch but could conceivably defeat other Primarchs of their own tier. Given the proper situational advantage a tier below should be capable of defeating a higher tier of Primarch though would lost a straight up fight most every time.
It should also be noted that this list is more interesting before Daemonhood as Daemon Primach abilities vary wildly depending on the source of canon you look at. The Heresy setting, when all the brothers are on a more consistent footing, is my preferred way of looking at them.
With those parameters:
Tier 1: Sanguinius, The Lion, Konrad Curze, Leman Russ, Horus,
Tier 2: Fulgrim, Jaghatai, Rogal Dorn, Corvus Corax, Angron
Tier 3: Vulkan, Mortarion, Alpharius, Perturabo, Ferrus Manus
Tier 4: Lorgar, Guilliman, Magnus
Again, Sanguinius being the outlier in most every case, each Primarch in each Tier would have a fighting chance at beating each other Primarch inside their own tier, and could punch up to a higher tier if properly prepared.
Magnus is the second outlier besides Sanguinius though for a different reason. He is clearly among the worst physical combatants though also clearly far more powerful than any of his brothers. His defeats are nearly always due to the intervention of blanks to dampen his power and bring him back to tier 4. Without Blanks in the picture, there is a strong case to be made that Magnus is far and away the strongest combatant as he simply doesnt need to physically fight but would win the battles with his mind, and he has no equal in that category.
Im fairly confident in both Tier 1 and Tier 4, but there are plenty of solid arguments for movement within 2 and 3. Still, this is where im landing on the matter for now. Love to hear arguments to move them around however.
theres a cool moment in 'the crimson king' where a shard of magnus (his belligerence, i believe) mind controlled servitors to kill a sister of silence. being distracted in battle is what got him against russ, but hypothetically could use corvidae powers to be aware of the sisters prescence (unless their blank nature hides even that, maybe he can see their vacuum nature) and prepare beforehand.
i feel people forget magnus also has access to future sight, just different to kurze and sanguinius

I would put the khan and vulkan tier 1, I would say horus is actually tier 2. I think he was a great general, but as a duelist, i would say he is tier 2. The khan simply because he beat warp juice mortarion.
The Lion is considered one of, if not the most martial of all the Primarchs. Horus went out of his way to make sure he was no where near the uprisings so he wouldn't have to deal with him on the battlefield. Lets also add in, he took of Angron in his full daemon price form. He is the 1st primarch and he was the best.

While I like the list, I feel Sanguinius and Lion both would mess Horus up worst than they messed up Angron. Horus was extremely charismatic and a magnificent leader but, well, there was a reason he prepared Signus prime to handle Sanguinius and he sent Lion to the Ghouls Stars, the farthest corners of the galaxy.
Also, I think Corax should be on Konrad's place. Raven boy is.... Well, a beast. Also, Jagathai should be on Fulgrim's place. The Khan tends to be brutally underestimated, which is part of his tactic.

Curse is undeniably one of the strongest Primarchs, and is one of the very few Russ said he didn’t think he could beat. Where as Corax hasn’t really done anything super notable in terms of demonstrating combat prowess.

Pre-heresy, only Lorgar and the Twins would have lost in a direct fight against the Night Haunter. People like to think Batboy is an amazing fighter, but his specialty was terror, fear, horror, and shock. His ability to see the future was great, and all, but people take Leman´s words too seriously. Leman Russ is a great warrior, but he is prideful and looks down on most of his siblings, and while he said there were only two primarchs that could beat him, Sangui and Konrad, he never fought either of them. He shat on Magnus, and he came very close to killing Russ. I would argue that Russ didn’t even know how dangerous the Khan or Morty were, and he underestimated Vulkan immensely. Plus, Lion did beat him, and while the Hour of the Wolf with Angron was a messy thing; one on one, Angron had the upper hand, even if Russ could have wiped his legion out.
Also, Ferrus was a BEAST.
Don’t get me wrong, Konrad is dangerous, but if you cannot see what you are fighting, seeing the future isn´t going to help you much. Corax almost killed Lorgar on Itsavann, a Lorgar already empowered by the warp after his pilgrimage, and only retreated after he was two on one, and surrounded by astartes and tanks. And all of this refraining from mentioning Corvus post-heresy, which is a living nightmare.

Russ stating that he’d lose to Curze even with his arrogant nature is a testament to how strong Curze was, and only adds to the potency of the statement, not take away from it.
Lion is the most martially skilled of all the Primarchs, and widely accepted as second to ONLY Sang in over all combat capability. Curze fought Lion 4 times, each fight was close, with Cruze even managing to beat him the first time around, and the third time being a close fight DESPITE it being both Lion and Guilliman Jumping Curze at the same time.
You don’t really seem to have a argument here against Curze’s combat prowess, and just seem to be shitting on him just for the sake of it. Curze fought more Primarch then any other, and won almost every single fight he had with his brothers. His place as one of the strongest is entirely undeniable.
Also Curze literally beat Vulkan, repeatedly, and then captured and tortured him. Curze straight Killed Vulkan repeatedly over the course of their first fight. The second fight Vulkan won because Curze wasn’t prepared for a fight, and third fight Curze basically No Diffed Vulkan.

1. Sang (he fought like crazy and didn't fight horus until after he was wounded and exhausted)
2. Horus chaos.
3. Lion ( I believe the lion could beat chaos horus but only because lion against any chaos person is just crazy but I believe against other primarchs or just feats and stuff horus is stronger)
4. Russ. Guy is just weaker than lion and his fighting is brutal and unorthodox but very effective.
5.vulkan, his strength, weapons and armor,regen are crazy and pretty much carrying him into this spot.
Honorable mentions
Magnus end of crusade. He was so insanely powerful but like his feats and other things make him hard to truly gage.
Konrad he was the person I debated on the most to be number 5 but in the end I choose vulkan.
Pleasure snake he has insane regen and is very skilled but the regen alone can carry him into number 5 but his insecurities and obsessions kinda hold him back a lot.
magnus got the opposite of plot armour, i think bro could have taken russ if he wasn't suicidal and multitasking, and also fighting 3v1

i wonder how future sights would interact with each other with the primarchs- if anyone has read mistborn, the way the near future interactions work is when 2 people are using it, multiple projections are shown, effectively negating it
i guess that would only effect sanguinius, kurze and partially magnus (considering he can use all his cults' psyker abilities, such as the Corvidae)
Kurze had future sight which made him virtually invincible due to him predicting the movements of others, and therefore responding accordingly.
however in a fight against the Lion, Kurze failed and was defeated by the Lion due to the Lion's instincts being so overpowered that any time Kurze predicted the Lion's attack and made a move to counter/take advantage of it, the Lion just switched his attack and countered Kurze's counter.

Which begs the question...they might still choose correctly the path of victory within the blurred foresight, so did their foresight influence that choice? Guilliman not featuring is somewhat excusable, as he is the Horus heresy equivalent of The Avatar of Khaine/ Swarmlord (most likely due to being alive in 40k), however, if you look at all of his Primarch fights, the odds have been against him, he rarely went out of his way to seek out 1v1 combat, meaning he usually entered duels without the initiative - it is explicitly stated that (admittedly before any chaos shenanigans) only four or five of his brothers could beat him in a duel - most likely the Lion, Russ, Sanginius and Horus (for my money the Khan and Fulgrim would also take him). Hell, he survived fighting both powered up Lorgar and Angron, exchanging fairly even blows with both of them, which other Primarchs could pull that off?? It’s also worth mentioning that in both editions of the tabletop game - Bobby has been in the top 5 duellists mathematically speaking (although I fully accept that to some people this means nothing…)
The biggest issue with this list (which is otherwise fairly solid) is Dorn being here, I love Rogal, but also think that if the writers hadn’t shit the bed by having Dorn kill Alpharius (or did he?????) Corvus, Perty and Ferrus would comfortably be seen as better than Dorn, sadly a confirmed Primarch Kill does help a lot! It’s a shame, because realistically Corvus (especially in demon-bird form) would absolutely tear through Dorn…

Honestly most people probably don't want to hear it but, jagadai, fulgrim and one or two other primarchs were not given overpowered weapons and armor by the emperor, chances are if they were as blessed as rogal dorn or russ, they would probably be much better but most people don't want to hear that.

I'm assuming it is because he was aware of how strong they were and the role that they were meant to play which inevitably caused a lot of chaos and issues for the traitor legion and loyalist faction. I would love to see the other legions receive more love, the blue-boys get entirely too much attention. Another thing to consider about fulgrim he was sent to investigate horus, if Horus was indeed a traitor he was also trusted with havingthe physical power to put him down. Fulgrim got shot through the eye and into the brain which canonical would have killed the vast majority of primarchs and he recovered extremely fast. I really hope they do something with his clone, the emperor's children need more love I'm starting to get a little bit annoyed.

Problem with this is it relies on lore and the lore is warped to favour the "good" primarchs. Lorgar is shown to speak a word and have angron thrown around like a ragdoll yet when against robute, somehow he is shown to be on the back foot.
Perty overall has immense strength, u matched strategic and tactical mind, insane armour and weaponry and a focused mind to wnsure he is not distracted. He pretty much kept the traitor legions in line and coordinated, which is ridiculously impressive. H eis undoubtedly one of the most dangerous primarchs in my mind but all he recieves is "daddy issues" nonsense from people. All that is far more impressive that simply being a good dualist.

*Angron is still good for a time until Guilliman used words to provoke him and Lorgar turning him to demon, I know it's plot armor for Guilliman but still plenty of time to swat a battered Guilliman, if Angron is 8 that makes Guilliman 10, which would be wrong because there is the Khan, Horus and Mortarion which are also no slouch at battle prowess. And also Corax even though his not one of the best he believes he can defeat Conrad (which is pretty high on the list for fighting lion and Guilliman) if his mind is clear at the time. in terms of strength okay, but battle prowess 8 is high 10 would be good, don't get angry at me Magnus fans but come on losing to sisters of silence Guilliman and space marines, also being empowered by chaos and one of the most powerful psykker that's 11 for me,

In a way for me it's hard to rank him and it just made me put him on the lower because of how the lore progress in 40k. If the authors are adamant on lowering his powers though I'd really put him 11 in rankings.

Yes lorgar is the worst fighter. No argument found here (or anywhere). But he also was able to do that while Kurze came into shank him and got away.
Name any other primarch that has survived a 2 v 1.
But his main thing, is that he can straight up go invisible. That ability alone would win him 75% of primarch fights by default. Most wouldn’t even know their beheading was coming.
For what its worth, the lion and the khan are high up the list.
IMO, Russ is well loved by fans, but his ranking is overstated. He’s above mid tier, but isn’t top tier.
I love Sanguinius, but i think that’s another inflation. Still top tier, but not top top tier. IMO, one of his primarch traits is his likeability. Everyone reveres him from commoners to his own (often jealous and salty) brothers. But they all get along and like Sanguinius. We always hear the legend of his greatness. But, i think everyone’s opinion in universe was flawed in their ability to perceive him. We know the emps could do this. I suspect Sanguinius has this power to some extent.
People point to his work at the gates of terra fighting daemons. Daemons are cheap plot points to imply strength, but which are lore-expendable. Primarchs aren’t. He also knew that wasn’t his fate. That can embolden you, especially if you have a berserker style of combat. He has also lost his only primarch fight he ever fought. Sure it was Horus. The other guy everyone revered for his legend, but maybe wasn’t all he cracked up to be.
But russ beat elevated horus. Sanguinius didnt. (and russ lost to Angron). How would that be possible if he was that tier?

I will never understand why some people think that Horus is the most powerful one just because well he was like favourite "son" a "warmaster". So what? Let's do a tier list as requested:
This is a list pre-heresy, as the deamon primarchs abilities are ridiculously unpredictable and op.
This is based on a one on one fight, with the full intention to kill each other and "limiters" removed.
I will start at the top:
1. Sanguinius, hands down, shown to have the greatest amount of feats and power, defeating a greater demon and then going toe to toe whilst tired and injured with chaos infused aangron, puts him at the top by far, precog abilities similar to curze. You eve. Have the lion ceeding the throne to him and Russ, the executioner, stating that he couldn't beat him in a fight.
2. The lion, greatest duelist of them all, an ability that almost seems as if he can change fate, or at the very least, react faster than thought. Whilst he did need the special shield to do it, he beat a very powerful demon aangron, after having a snooze for 10k years.
3. Magnus the red. With all limitations removed Magnus is a psyker of such unbelievable power, implied to be stronger than malcador, who easily subdued Horus with psychic might. With no restrictions he could ruin most others. Whilst he was beaten by Russ, this is more of a situation that Russ is the natural counter to him.
4. Curze: a complete wild card and with strong precog, he easily takes the 4th spot, Curze even managed to beat the lion once in a fight, and even Russ stated he may not be able to beat him, due to the madness he exhibits. No holds barred and nothing is off limits to him.
5. Leman Russ. The executioner is incredible in combat, and only bested by the others simply due due to their abilities just being too much. Often seen as a fool, this has been revealed as a mask he wears to have people underestimate him. Whilst he could not defeat Horus when infused with chaos without the spear and some help, he was able to go toe to toe with him in combat and gain the upper hand. And likely could have defeated aangron if he wasn't trying to make a point and also wasn't holding back
6. Vulkan, the kindest and possibly gentlest primarchs, also the strongest. Letting him cut loose completely would allow him to defeat nearly anyone in single combat.
7The Khan: his speed and unreadable expressions make him difficult to face in single combat, even able to make orks flee from him with his power on display.
8. Corax: whilst we don't see a huge amount from him, he was recognized as a powerful opponent and his stealth abilities were second to none and he was recognized as a superior combatant by many.
9. Mortarion. Even more heresy, he was formiddible, using an unwieldy weapon and being a master of it, if he took of his own limiters of psychic ability... Who knows how much more powerful he could become.
10. Ferrus Manus, leading the istvan 4 assault, recognized as a leader and if fulgrim had not been empowered, would have defeated him. He is often looked down upon for being killed, but that's a testament to fulgrims empowered state, not Manus overall ability
So many sanguinis cock rides, he couldn't even beat Horus but russ could lmao yah top 3 most definitely not

Curze shouldn't be on the list, he's incredible, but only when fighting on his own terms(which he manages to do pretty often), in a fight on an open field he would get bodied by the majority of his brothers(his precognition is random and as far as im aware his fight with the lion was the only time his precog activated during fights) as he's physically a pretty weak primarch
Rogal Dorn is pretty good, but the Khan and Ferrus deserve to be put on the list much more than him

8. Angron(pretty overrated as a fighter, his daemon form gets bodied by everyone, Russ baited him, and Guilliman held his own pretty good, but it's still Angron so he's in the top 10)
9. Jaghatai Khan(incredible swordsman similar to Fulgrim, idk how he wasn't placed on the list???)
10. Horus(even while chaos boosted him, without Horus using magic powers Russ almost killed him, and before chaos boosted him he never really showed himself to be a top tier fighter, but he's still one of the biggest and strongest primarchs)

@Blzrd224 had to think A bit about that, but there are 3 points I feel need mentioning. 1. The lion got a lot better at fighting through the heresy, he went from losing to Konrad Curze pretty clearly and being on par with Leman Russ to being able to pretty comfortably defeat Curze, so pre heresy should be weaker (I included the end of heresy version) 2. Angron was a demon primarch, so a very different character with different strengths and abilities than regular angron 3. It's 40k not horus heresy. He had the emperors shield, is older, has a different fighting style, appears in stories written by different people... I don't like mixing these two storylines in those discussions, but I can see why you could have the lion a big higher on the basis of his 40k feats in your list.
Perturabo beat Daemon Primarch Angron and humbled Fulgrim. He isn't know for dueling, because admitted duels are stupid. On the table top he's a powerhouse that can crush most other Primarchs, losing out mathammer to a small handful. He did lose to Daemon Primarch Mortarian, but that was due to the Aura of decay alone.
That whole "Lion defeated Leman" thing is very iffy. Leman started to laugh when he noted how embarrasing the situation was and stopped fighting. The Lion on the other hand was still angry and smashed Leman unconscuious. Understandable in the situation they were in. However, the absolute bitch move from the Lion came when he stabbed a defenseless Leman after the siege of Terra after saying himself "It was never finished, that duel". Although flawed himself, as a brother and man Leman stood high above Mr. buthurt Lion.
I agree that the Lion in his prime is a bit better at fighting than Leman. But saying "he won against Leman" is wrong.

feel like curze should be higher, Russ himself said he wasn't sure he could beat him and Curze fucked up a lot of primarchs in 1v1s. GIven what Russ sais and his victory over Lion, I'd have him over Vulkan and Fulgrim, maybe not demon fulgrim though.
