Nahh its not, its that size to protect your pocket. Its meant to be worn inside the pocket. Deep enough to not stick out too high. If it were a short sheath with some long extension to the clip (again, to make it ride deep enough) you might slice the back of your pocket open drawing or sheathing it.
Or do you mean width? Im sure thats to allow the holes around the sides, kind of a standard to allow modularity, i think it could do without all that. Im with you if thats what youre referring to
