Why Brookfield Continues To Be My #1 Stock - Earnings Review
#BAM #bn
Hello everyone, I am Daniel Pronk and in today's video I discuss Brookfield (BN) and its Q2 2023 earnings report.

My dad is a Senior VP at Brookfield and I always send him your videos. He says he loves them and good job on outlining "the strategy related to increasing position on insurance companies as the cash from them can be used for growth"
Dude, hire me
Very nice !
Daniel got me into BAM some time ago and I enjoy having it in my dividend portfolio
This is incredible and thank you for sharing! It's crazy to think that a Brookfield VP is watching my videos, and saying I am doing a good job :)
Your dad must be a very smart man.
@@RetireandGo are you on blossom?
15,8B is still a lot debt. Interest expenses are getting nasty and declining earnings 80%+ TTM says as much. I wouldn't say this is a problem for Brookfield, and it's probably still undervalued, but they always talk a good game. Numbers aren't THAT great all-around.
BAM up over 21% ytd, looking forward to the dividend increase 😁
Me too! I am expecting a dividend raise before the end of the year :)
Fantastic video. I’ve been far more bullish on $BAM because it’s asset lite. But honestly Brookfield Corp’s insurance growth is really attractive. I’m going to be buying more.
Nice video Daniel. I love Brookfield and Bruce Flatt 😁 I'm starting to like the two young guys behind him too; Nick Goodman is a killer financially and Sachin Shah can quickly build all their new businesses. The next generation is strong!
I agree! I think Brookfield has some of the best management out there. I'm really impressed with them, and a happy shareholder!
Is it prudent to own a bit of both BN and BAM, or does that seem redundant, and just hold BN? Thanks, great info.
So buy Bam will buy all 5 company ?
How much of the dividend for Bam now ?
Love your channel. You do a fantastic job analyzing stocks and gloss over important details with lots of fluff. Keep ‘em coming!
Thank you so much, Cristy! I really appreciate that, and you taking the time to tune into my channel :)
I bought BAM at $41 CAD last month and thinking to sell after it reach $44. Now, it almost reach 47, I will keep it for a long time.
$41 -> $44 is less than a 10% gain. What's your plan for this investment?
I've been observing the pattern of the BAM curve over the past five months. The curve has shown a range between 41 at its lowest point and 44 at its highest. It's quite satisfying to make some quick profits within a short timeframe.
Great video, you somehow make a convoluted business like Brookfield digestible. I also think it’s one of the few cheap deals out there right now, it feels like I’ve only been buying BN and Manulife for months now. Thanks for the videos.
You think manulife is cheap!? I mean everytime it goes below 22 i buy.
Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate that, and I do my best to break down the information in english, lol. MFC is another stock I own, and the business seems to be performing well!
I ❤ Brookfield (BAM)
Same here :D
first off, mad props to you for the deep dive into brookfield's earnings - you've got mad research skills!
that said, i gotta be real, not completely vibing with the idea that the short term interest rate hikes won't have a longer term impact on brookfield's real estate segment, especially given how interest rates can shape the real estate market dynamics
but hey, time will tell
keep up the solid content!
I own BEP. Is that the same company u r talking about. I’m definitely under water for 3 years and it seems like it never moves.
Not the same.. and me to
Daniel, great content. I just started buying a few shares of BN on Friday.
Thanks Daniel😎
You're very welcome, Dave! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Great video again Daniel. Looks like I waited too long with the jump in share price. I was gonna make a decision this weekend and maybe still will purchase some.
Love the buisiness as well. I think it operates a lot like Berkshire and for that I'm looking at a P/B of 1.3 or 1.2 for a great/good buy. I wonder if you would take the P/B valuation method into consideration on Company like BN as well?
Hey, thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to watch the video! I appreciate it! I'm happy to see BN get some love as well. I don't use P/B on these businesses. I prefer to answer the question of "how much cash can the business return to me?" which is answered by looking at BN's DE.
1. What's target carried interest & accum unrealized carried interest means ? why not in IFRS column ?
2. For the businesses that they claim not having recourse on the debt; are their assets also not listed as BN assets ?
1. interest = unrealized gains on their assets that they plan to sell. This will be converted into DE when the sales are realized
2. Yes, a lot of BN's assets are also not their own on the balance sheet.
Great video and great explanation. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it :)
I wonder if BN and BAM would ever come below $40 CDN again...
This year 2023 they are going to face a 4B increase in Interest expense, huge red flag to me. This quarter this big increase (1.3b) was offset thanks to 1B of Gain in the disposal of New Zealand mobile network operator.
as of today this did not age well 😅 the past month BEP got murdered..i dont own this stock but im thinking to add this one life oportunity in my portfolio
Thanks Daniel. Loved your analysis.
You're very welcome, and thank you for the kind words :)
Great video Daniel. It sounds like you believe BN is better priced today than BAM. Would you agree ?
Thank you for the kind words and for tuning in! I personally like BN's price more than BAM today. That's just me though
Leased buildings and shopping malls…. What about the impending commercial real estate crisis?? I see plazas and shopping malls emptying daily around me.
Had same question. Retail spaces and offices are dying... Concern for me
Low quality real estate is struggling. Brookfield owns high quality real estate, and is seeing the rent on their assets continue to increase due to demand for them. Not all real estate is the same (from the BN CEO)
Does PE ratio 81 matters or no?
The PE is 6.74 not 81
You have to go to their report and look at their distributable earnings and use that for your price ratios
I don't use net income for BN
Thank you very much for today's & yesterday's videos. I would have one Q: In addition to BAM & BM, have you looked at the other Brookfield subsidiaries and any thoughts why to invest or not in them? For example, do you see them more risky and is this the reason you have not invested in them.
Hello, thank you for watching the video, Anna! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have looked into BN's subsidiaries, but I believe BN and BAM are the most attractive for me.
Great vid Daniel !
Thank you Brian! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Great breakdown. Great company. I’m excited to see them continue to do well. I love the value investing.
Thank you Jeffrey! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for tuning in!
Confusing comments 😅Daniel is talking about BN but folks are commenting on BAM😆
300+ pe is expensive.
Great video thank you 🙏
You're very welcome Anthony! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Hey Daniel, is that current "false" debt the main reason that BN has such a poor rating on your stock unlock website?
Yes, exactly. Unfortunately the reported numbers on BN look like trash. You need to go through their own documents to see the value and true fundamentals.
Good video, thank you.
Thank you for the kind words, I am glad you enjoyed the video!
I should have bought more than 8 shares of Bam lol
I should have bought as many as I could too lol
Real estate has not even corrected, expect a lost decade if it does not come down. Stagflation can only go so far.
Great work, its horribly complex but you put in the effort.
Its very expensive stock, valuations too high
Look again, it's really cheap at this price.
P/E isn't the move
I am not interested in the Insurance industry with global climate change a possible recesion.
Insurance stocks tend to outperform in recessions.
Exactly the opposite, people will need more insutarance
And also dont listen to the doom and gloom of main stream media, they survive on this.
