Hi, I've made it my goal to learn a new language this year (well start too) and as I work in a School BSL will be a great choice. So I've been learning the basics for the past couple of weeks - finger spelling etc, counting that sort of thing. We have a deaf girl at school and hardly anyone here can sign apart from her assigned assistant, you should have seen her face when I signed 'Hello, my name is Paul'

Cheers Dan, I talk to my colleagues in work in food retail almost daily about BSL, I show them what I learned from your videos. Surprisingly we are now starting to use signs more and more! Great video as always.

I am currently learning sign language from scratch as (and I haven't made up my mind yet but) either a new years resolution or just a new hobby/skill. but my main point is that this channel has really helped, especially the multiple angles :) Thanks Dan

I'm so glad I found your channel. I work in a vaccine centre and when we can't get in touch with our interpreter Im the resident signer. I'm still trying to figure out the signs I need for the medical questions too

O my goodness! I have been searching for some videos to learn BSL and finally I found you! I have already know another sign language but I moved to the UK and because I love Deaf as well as signing I’m so happy that I have discovered your videos! Recordings are so clear and in the proper pace. Thank you for that! 🙏🏽

Hi found your channel this week I was brought up using bsl however a lot of family slang signs were incorporated in that. My Dad died over 10 years ago so it is nice to reminisce and learn the correct hand gestures at the same time. Thanks for your time.

I find it very frustrating. I was saying to someone about the sign for corona virus and they said it's simply a matter of signing 'c' and 'v' with dominant hand. Idk.

Who is responsible for creating new signs? Do they just appear and get accepted into general use like other languages.

That’s a good question! I have a online lesson with my BSL teacher in half an hour. I’m also curious to find the answer so I’ll ask her. I’ll get back to you

Hi, sorry for getting back to you so late. I forgot lol. Anyways my teacher said they just emerge into the deaf community. So you were right, they do just appear in the deaf community and get accepted like in other languages. 😀

    Cultural appropriation.
Leave it to Deaf people who know best. You know nothing.

@@iamOwenG Would you learn French from an English speaking person? Obviously not. Same goes for BSL - it should never be taught by a hearing person. I don’t know why hearing people are taking all the ‘glory’ making videos like this. There are fantastic Deaf owned websites offering BSL lessons and they are the first point of contact to learn BSL in the right way.
