FUN FACT: My aunt ran the cleaning crew at Bally's in Las Vegas for years, especially tasked with making sure the "High-rollers" upstairs were taken care of. She said Randy Travis was far and away the sweetest most humble person she'd ever met. Aside from changing the sheets, in a bed he made KNOWING they'd be changed regardless, there was nothing to do. She told him to have fun, and that it was HER JOB to keep the room clean, not his. He said it was his job to to not be a slob and let actual hard workers not have to work hard. Tipped $100 daily for her 5 minutes of work.
There are many KInGS of country..Randy carried the torch for a long time and it gets passed on... It's his magic voice and his ability to make us listen!!! Country GOLD..he learned from all the past KINg$ !!
Randy Travis is one of the best country singers we've ever had. thank you Randy for all the great music you've given us &more to come. thank you for posting this, 2-15-20
Perfect example of a real Grand Ole Opry show!!! All very talented Country entertainers, including the newer ( at the time) singer, Randy Travis. Wilma Lee Cooper, Tom T. Hall, Billy Walker all great!!
Absolutely amazing. .... now that's what a music show is all about ... a bunch of guys genuinely having fun, entertaining the audience. Seems like now day's everyone is more concerned about just putting on a show, than anything else....
Randy Travis took what the old school yoddle had and even hit 3 different notes in the one breath.. he polished you what Hank And Leffty And George Jones done..theyd be so proud of him he took the old school into the new..
This past Saturday the Grand Ole Opry had a special show honoring Randy's 35th year as an Opry member. Of course, he and Mary were brought out on stage. Then Lacy, Warner's label A&R representative, came on stage (with another person from the label), toting a huge picture of Randy in silhouette with several pictures of his best-selling albums across the bottom. And in the background in big bold black lettering, it said "1.6 Billion times" Randy's music has been listened to. Putting that in perspective she said," that's 5 songs for every man, woman, and child in the USA. ". I'm not at all surprised by those numbers. Because Randy had that rare ability to bring the lyrics and music to life, that was so relatable to the listener. One of the performing artists mentioned the George Jones song "Who's Going to Fill Their Shoes" and he said, "No one will ever fill Randy's shoes! And maybe they never were meant to be "
You know Randy is was a great singer. I love George Jones. Was a great singer.but Randy was just as great singer so.but I love the music from Randy just he had that voice. Was so so wounderful. It touch my heart. Randy was no1. I liked George to but Randy.i love you and miss your .real country .🙏❤️🙏💔🙏
If you're too young to have lived it, Randy was HUGE during this time. I remember going to K-Mart looking for Always and Forever and being told it was sold out.
I both love and hate that I'm a Gen-Z. I hate it because I missed Randy in his prime, but I love it because I don't have to wait for anything to come out. Praying for that man, I'd love to hear him sing once again! God bless you

The Opry had two 2 shows each Saturday night. Shows consisted of 2 1/2 hrs, divided into 30 minutes sections. Different acts each segment, with some on first show being on second show also. Only one 30 minutes segment from first show was televised, as seems to be the video shown here. Some like Mr Acuff, usually had a certain time slot that they preferred, though he did appear on the tv part some. Believe the Opry manager selected the act's for each segment.
@@barbarawilkes5037 Yeah, you're right. Roy was usually on the (Standard Candy)Goo Goo,or Martha White,7:30-or 8pm on the 1st Show, then on later @ 10 or 10:30pm on a Dog Food portion.

Randy Travis was the last country music superstar who actually played country music. All his records from the late 80s are essential listening.
