No one ever knew what was coming next. He owned the stage and the audience in the palm of his hand. What a performer he was!! He sold out the concert so quickly he added a night concert which sold out also. Both concerts sold out in just a handful of hours. He was the sellout king.

That's what made him the king. He loved to have fun. This was in Vegas and having been to 2 of his shows, back then people dressed up. He did 2 shows a night every night for 5 weeks straight, and his their manager got 50%. He was beautiful in person even my husband had to admit it. He loved to play he loved his fans and fooled around a lot. He was a kind and generous man. From a singing standpoint, you would really love reacting to the finale of his 1968 Comeback Special where they wanted him to do a Christmas song and he insisted on doing this song written specifically for him as a tribute to MLK and just the general strife of the time, as Elvis was decimated by the assassination which had happened not long before and not far from where he lived in Memphis. He gives it his all and don't miss the mic drop moment at the end. From a singing while truly emoting standpoint, it is amazing. A truly historical performance. You can't miss it, he's in a white suit with a red tie and his name behind him. It is live to a studio audience for a televised Christmas special and his manager and some of the producers were really furious that he insisted on doing it rather than the Christmas song that they had picked out which was Here Comes Santa Claus. He felt he had to do something meaningful and he just hit a grand slam. One of the most amazing performances ever.

It was a good analysis of this very dynamic performer, or entertainer as he used to call himself, & he certainly was that.I always enjoy watching Elvis when he’s clowning about & building up the audience’s anticipation. The musicians said they had to keep their eyes on him all the time, because they never knew what he would suddenly come up with, & they had to keep up with him. Elvis & his musicians were a pretty close fit, & he had a particular close bond with his drummer, who said he hardly dared take his eyes off Elvis once he started dancing. But Elvis was always in control, & would use his hands, head & body to let his musicians know what was about to happen, so they didn’t lag behind.

A few things about Elvis: he was a visual feast for the eyes and his concerts played more like jam sessions. I always thought he’d have made a very good stripper. The man single-handedly made cool things that had previously been considered uncool. Truly a maestro.

The stance Elvis is using here is one of the karate stances he sometimes incorporated. He had his 8th degree black belt. If you can get a hold of the "25th Anniversary" dvd with his band members who talk about their time with him and how they had to watch him as they didn't know if a song was going to be 2 minutes or 5 minutes. Most of his backup singers with the exception of Kathy Westmoreland were also there performing. ❤

This is one of Elvis' early Vegas shows fyi :) You are so right at 8:00 when you say he's conducting that orchestra. The band members have said they never took their eyes off him. Sometimes you'll see Elvis look back at the band and say "watch me" :) Spectacular musicianship. As to that little note. Yeah. It appears as though a woman passed him a note. It likely included her hotel room number, etc. As you can see, he handed it to Charlie Hodge, his on-stage assistant. Some of those men in suits were "high rollers" - this was a pause from their very serious gambling in the Vegas resort then called The International hotel. Oh, BTW, "Polk Salad Annie" is from a genre at the time called "Swamp Rock." Might be fun to look into it. Very bluesy Louisiana admixture of a variety of southern musics. The actual plant in the song was Poke Salat; it's a green that grows just as the song describes. And country people often depended on such foods - foods that grew in the wild and were always available. In other words, "Annie" was a survivor, and she made sure her family survived. Tony Joe White, the composer, loved Elvis' version and told Elvis that when he watched Elvis sing it, he kinda forgot he wrote it! He invited Elvis to go on a fishing trip with him, but Elvis was always kept rather isolated by his notorious manager. He appreciated the offer but he never did go. For a vocal coach, I also would recommend "If I Can Dream." There are so many songs rooted in a great variety of musical genres. Everything from gut-bucket blues to light operetta - Elvis sang it. Also check out his gospel singing; it's sublime.

Elvis had a stagepresence and charisma like nobody I've ever seen. It was like he was possessed by some energy, that his body almost couldn't contain. I believe that was what (beside his voice and looks) made him so magnetic.

From a singing while truly emoting standpoint, it is amazing. A truly historical performance. You can't miss it, he's in a white suit with a red tie and his name behind him. It is live to a studio audience for a televised Christmas special and his manager and some of the producers were really furious that he insisted on doing it rather than the Christmas song that they had picked out which was Here Comes Santa Claus. He felt he had to do something meaningful and he just hit a grand slam. One of the most amazing performances ever.
Elvis was in a league of his own, the complete entertainer, he was god gifted with all the right attributes. I really do not know of any performer who is comparable nor will be remembered and talked about in another 50 years time as I am sure Elvis will be.

This is true... he led the band completely... They have explained as much! They said they almost never took their eyes off of him. And the conductor of the orchestra that was a part of band/show said Elvis' timing was like a metronome...meaning it was really perfect!

It was a good analysis of this very dynamic performer, or entertainer as he used to call himself, & he certainly was that.I always enjoy watching Elvis when he’s clowning about & building up the audience’s anticipation. The musicians said they had to keep their eyes on him all the time, because they never knew what he would suddenly come up with, & they had to keep up with him. Elvis & his musicians were a pretty close fit, & he had a particular close bond with his drummer, who said he hardly dared take his eyes off Elvis once he started dancing. But Elvis was always in control, & would use his hands, head & body to let his musicians know what was about to happen, so they didn’t lag behind.
He sure knew how to give the audience EXACTLY what they wanted ❤️🔥

A few things about Elvis: he was a visual feast for the eyes and his concerts played more like jam sessions. I always thought he’d have made a very good stripper. The man single-handedly made cool things that had previously been considered uncool. Truly a maestro.

The stance Elvis is using here is one of the karate stances he sometimes incorporated. He had his 8th degree black belt. If you can get a hold of the "25th Anniversary" dvd with his band members who talk about their time with him and how they had to watch him as they didn't know if a song was going to be 2 minutes or 5 minutes. Most of his backup singers with the exception of Kathy Westmoreland were also there performing. ❤

You are so right at 8:00 when you say he's conducting that orchestra. The band members have said they never took their eyes off him. Sometimes you'll see Elvis look back at the band and say "watch me" :) Spectacular musicianship. The conductor of the orchestra that was part of the band said Elvis had the best timing he'd ever seen.. he said Elvis' timing was like a metronome. :) Have a beautiful day!

As to that little note. Yeah. It appears as though a woman passed him a note. It likely included her hotel room number, etc. As you can see, he handed it to Charlie Hodge, his on-stage assistant.
Some of those men in suits were "high rollers" - this was a pause from their very serious gambling in the Vegas resort then called The International hotel.
Oh, BTW, "Polk Salad Annie" is from a genre at the time called "Swamp Rock." Might be fun to look into it. Very bluesy Louisiana admixture of a variety of southern musics. The actual plant in the song was Poke Salat; it's a green that grows just as the song describes. And country people often depended on such foods - foods that grew in the wild and were always available. In other words, "Annie" was a survivor, and she made sure her family survived.
Tony Joe White, the composer, loved Elvis' version and told Elvis that when he watched Elvis sing it, he kinda forgot he wrote it! He invited Elvis to go on a fishing trip with him, but Elvis was always kept rather isolated by his notorious manager. He appreciated the offer but he never did go.
For a vocal coach, I also would recommend "If I Can Dream." There are so many songs rooted in a great variety of musical genres. Everything from gut-bucket blues to light operetta - Elvis sang it. Also check out his gospel singing; it's sublime.

Elvis had a stagepresence and charisma like nobody I've ever seen.
It was like he was possessed by some energy, that his body almost couldn't contain.
I believe that was what (beside his voice and looks) made him so magnetic.

Elvis' favorite superhero was Captain Marvel Jr., that's why he wore the jumpsuits with the sashes and open chests, they were meant to imply the missing Lightning Bolt that Captain Marvel and Cap Jr. and the rest of the Captain Marvel family wear on their chests. Captain Marvel is now known as Shazam due to copyright issues with Marvel Comics.

This is 1970....Elvis looking as good as he ever did owning that stage...Ur right it was in the middle of the show with the sweat and his hair flat...the thing he was reading was a note from an audience member...Ur guess is as good as mine as to what it said but he certainly didn't get rid of it ..drummer, Ronnie Tutt was as tight as ever watching Elvis's every move as there was no choreography...just Elvis feeling it ...and people were dressed smart because it was Las vegas International Hotel...nice reaction
It was 1970 when people dressed well no matter where they were -- even to fly on a plane -- no sloppiness then -- no ripped jeans, sloppy t-shirts, messed up sneakers
No special effects, no dancers, just one man and you could not take your eyes off him. I know I saw him live in 1973 and never again in our life time.
Those who were around him said, everyone knew when Elvis walked in the room even if they did not see him enter. They knew his presence was there, then looked.

Wow, when thinking of the 80's and 90's all the big stars reacted to the music with over choeography. The King was the music and moved with the groove. Blown away by this! Has to be a reason Graceland is only 2nd to the whitehouse in annual tourists. His first generation fans are not going.. It's 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations now.. Never be another like Elvis..
