Nicely done James. I'd been wondering about the neighbours as well, so good to have it explained. The standing-dinghy angle-grinding sounds like a round from a really dark version of Its A Knockout. Would probably watch that.
Woohoo 🙌 James with PPE on 👍🏻 Loved it when you opened the hatch doors to get your kindling in 🤣 It was like an episode of tails of the river bank hehe 😃 Take care cheers Stevie 😎
Good to cruise by on Sunday and see you in person James even if to just shout hello. Boat is looking great you will soon be out on the cut mate. Cheers
Evening James, I worked in a automotive paint shop for 38 years and prep is what it’s about, poor prep equals poor finish, it’s a arse to do but worth doing well 👍
I think I've been watching your videos for too long--this evening when my cat heard your voice she ran over and sat in front of the screen to watch, too. Seeing you chop up the kindling awoke some memories of my grandad, back in the day, chopping up orange boxes for kindling. BTW, instead of a powered chain saw, you might look into the option of a manual chain saw, which is a length of chain with teeth and which you drag under a fallen tree limb to chop it into lengths. Smaller and easier to store is my guess.
Looking really good - I know its just the first coat but it gives a great impressions for what is to come - regardless of your final colour choice. Nice one James ('s dad), one of those tunes which sticks around…
Battery chainsaw will go flat, quickly and needs sharpening. I suggest a coarse-toothed hand saw. Cheap, lasts a long time, and crucially, can be got in to nooks and crannies easily for lopping off dead limbs etc.
Spent years hauling wood I cut up hill in the winter on my farm, best thing to carry that was the big IKEA bags. Would have been better if my dogs would have pulled a sled but they sat on it waiting for me to pull them. Take the kids on a nature walk over the summer and gather wood over the better weather.
Burned wood for 30 years as a heat source. Never used kindling. A propane torch started a rosy burn and a hair dryer had it sweltering in minutes. Just a thought from Texas.
Hi James, love the music, you could make a recording of the sound track to sell? If you collect green wood from the cut, make sure you dry it out for a long time, or the flue will tar up. Boat looks a treat. Take care,
I was buying kindling then today I went to collect dead wood. Blimey there's loads of it and it burns hot. Not buying kindling again this summer. Cheers James.
processed lumber is molecularly less dense than unprocessed wood and will burn faster and give off less heat. I learned that from working from a lumber mill but I've burned it because it's all I had to burn during the first season I had a solid fuel heater.
James, could you maybe, down below on the comments, say who is playing the guitar each time, you or your Dad, and what the selection is. I’m really enjoying this music and look forward to hearing it. (Kay from Nashville, 🎸 Tennessee)
That’s great - the music is always done my dad - he really enjoys doing it and today’s was a tribute to the les from the bay city rollers who died a few days ago. Glad you like the tunes 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Love it James. Cheers to your Dad and keep it coming. It would appear that he has the magic required to get around the TH-cam copyright censors. You have to have him on the boat one day!
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Also, What a great suggestion one of the viewers had re helping you with wood gathering. The kids can take ownership in helping to heat the narrowboat and helping their dad. Involve the kids in chores as much as possible, James. Narrowboating is not all fun and games. It’s hard work too.
I am Impressed with your dance with Sloe Patrol. Durring your painting, between 4:50 and 5:14 Sloe moved foreword and back aprox 50 times... and you never skipped a beat. RE-SPECT Also your mike is just a bit low. not bad but low,. Side note. Entire movement of Sloe from beginning to end was 125 times. fyi. RE-SPECT
Florida girl here- I shuddered at seeing that milk outside in the sun. That definitely can’t be done here, it would be rotten in about 15 minutes from the heat! 😂😂😂
What you think and think exists on the back of the moon, it's about taking into account your neighbors. The sparks that occur when you grind have a temperature of over 450 degrees when they end up on the boats around you so they burn on paint and windows, think if your neighbor has recently repainted the boat or what if someone does the same thing you do when you have finished painting your boat, what would you think if you had to redo everything and what would you say to that person? towards your neighbors, think a little about your fellow human beings and not just about yourself. If any of your neighbors find out that you have destroyed their windows or paint on their boats, you may be liable for compensation.
That’s my thinking too. You’d really have to be unhappy with the windows to move them. The thought never crossed my mind - and surely if you would be bothered to move the window - surely you’d get the old surface decent again ???? This whole thing has boggled my mind !!!
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Its probably always had about the same amount of windows. When moving a window to another place they just cut a new hole and move a window to that new spot and fill in the old spot with the metal just cut out. The front of the cabin has been extended as that was deemed important at 1 point in time. Buying an old boat means you are buying its history also.
I am surprised it is ok to sand the paint and let the dust get into the canal, I imagine it is unlikely that their is lead in the paint, but that does not mean it is ok for the wildlife to ingest it. In another vlogers video the let a narrowboat go back into the water before the bitumen had hardened per manufacturer recommendations. That also seems irresponsible as well. Sorry if this is bit nit picky but I believe in at least bringing things up. If I missed where you discussed this I am sorry.
Re: working wharf.... is there a time restriction on when you can and can’t use power tools, like before and after 8 am/pm? That red oxide looks so great I’m not sure why more people don’t use it as a final color.
Totally agree North Kilworth is a working wharf, I have done work there and it would be ok if you were working on the wharf but you are not, you are on the mooring jetties where people pay to moor there boats in safety, not having dust put all over them and chopped sticks hitting the paint work, please have a little more consideration for other peoples property.
Hi James again love the music choice. Great job today. Looks fantastic. Keith & Helen Melbourne Auzz.

James, you’ve got a chop saw, that’s how I chop my my timber up and all my fingers are intact

IKEA bags are wonderful things, they can be used for so many jobs ☺️

Will someone please tell me why I enjoyed so much a bloke chopping kindling.....
looks good keep up the good work on you boat keep up the work on your boat from lee
Do you have to double the clutch when you change gear ?
Your dad sound as good as Lez Dawson playing the piano
Keep em coming

Hey James see if you can get some catwalk paint for the gunnels. It’s what the use on small aircraft on the wings for entry to the cabin.
My sister is in mourning for Les McKeown... Bye bye, baby, indeed.
You look tired, James. Don't overdo it. ;o)
Windows left open like that in the spring... they might be coming back to a beehive inside the boat if they're really unlucky.

It's alright, we don't have heat here, just the absence thereof.
I’m not sure how you managed to split all that wood and not have any go in the water?

How about a butchers glove, will protector hand using angle grinder
Why where so many windows filled in?
