I gotta be honest, new uploads always make my day that much better. That custom ramp for the firehouse makes the whole station pop. That's ingenious. The smallest of details can have the largest effect and I love it.
Super helpful, I have been watching for years and have some modulars I have wanted to put on a MILS, but never did. Now and I am and went back to find this one. Thanks! :-)
Love the fact that you can customise the plates with driveways etc. That looks amazing and definitely shows off the benefits of converting to MILS. I can't wait to see your city slowly get this epic upgrade!
One suggestion I would have, having done this a bunch when I converted mine over was to download the instruction books from Lego from the sets prior. This way if something pops off and you forget where it goes or you have to do some rebuilding, you will have the instructions ready to go. Love how you integrated the road with the ramp piece. It's simple but makes such a big difference. Thanks for the content.
Thank you, Bricksie! I asked the other day about how hard converting a modular to MILS would be and this makes it look pretty simple. I think I can convert the Daily Bugle without destroying it now. I am building the book shop modular and did dark grey for most of it with green for the back yards. It made the basement of the house better!
Thanks for the tutorial. It'll be very useful for my city when I got to mills. The only thing with mills is that it's very part consuming but, the final result is fantastic!
This is cool. As a software engineer who wants to build my own city someday, this is an awesome system! The whitepaper for it is a good read too. Thanks for the tutorials and documenting this process!!!
The benefit to just keeping the standard (with the technic bricks) is that with how much you rearrange/move buildings - you never know if that building will eventually get moved to a spot where you need to pin it into your exterior roads. Better build in the standard that you're not going to use, than have to tear apart and rebuild when you later move that building to a spot that needs it. And oh baby - you stood on the plate - attaguy! Rock Solid!
MILS may be great for you, but not for me. Just for personal preferences. First of all, I thought it wouldn’t be flush with the modular buildings that I have plus those 3 in 1 sets, and my other buildings. I honestly don’t think I want to utilize the MILS. I’m perfectly happy for what I’m doing for my city. What you are doing is really, really cool! Keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks for this, I'm in the process planning the conversion to MILS as well, funny that you used the building that re-ignited my love for LEGO. I also convert the flag (Austrian)
So cool! I’m so tempted to build my own lego city. Overwhelming to think of where to start though since there are so many options! 😅 Love the content, Bricksie! Thanks for all the tips!
With the base plate removed, you can replace the Technics connector bricks on the building walls with normal bricks. The connector bricks are no longer needed now that MILS plate handles connection.
Not sure when you got the Fire Brigade, but did you have any trouble with the reddish brown pieces snapping? I always heard that was a defect with the color at the time and it was true in the mini modular anniversary pack I have. 3 or 4 1x1 plates snapped in half and that's never happened to me. It's the main reason I haven't tried to buy the Fire Brigade yet.
Doing your Road transition for Mils looked a lot easier. Can see you are going to have a lot of fun having to swap out all those modulars ha looking good though 👍🏻
Thanks for the content sharing your MILS experience… just a question, why don’t you use the base plate that comes already with the modular building to be the “top” of your MILS in this case?
i actually did this and put 4 mils new road plates on top.Put a few bits of lego on the board and then put hagrids hut on ,also where you can put little bits of lego to make the roadway i put flowers and bits of lego to make raised rocks .It looked really good and i think unusual.someone gave them to me and i dont really have a city so i thought of a creative way to use them
I want to do this so bad!! Especially the roads, they look so good. My city I want to kinda go a different route though, like those mocs that are like a diorama the details in the buildings and land. I need to have a few tables and a big collection of parts... don't know how to start the bulk part "wall" like what parts to start getting.
Im new to this. What’s the best place to get all of the small plates and bricks in mass to make these? I have a few sets but not extra pieces. Thanks!!
I've actually never seen the inside of the Fire Brigade 😅 and also Town Hall (I know you didn't show that). Really an awesome custom road plate for that Fire Brigade 🔥 that's fire!
so if i'm planning on starting with the module buildings, should I use the included 32x base as the top instead of the4x4s or should i use the included base as the bottom and get 64 4x4?
You make it look alot simpler that I have seen it done ! Question... how do you know if it is going to fit one plate or more ? What do you do if is smaller or an odd size ?
I bought all dark bluish 4x8 plates and made mills. Most modulairs have filled ground floors tho, untill i did the palace cinema... now i have a dark bluish grey floor in my cinema haha. But cant really see inside anyways so i csnt be bothered to change it now, maybe later
So now that you've converted the original modulars to MILS, what are your plans for the sidewalks? Will you leave them dark gray or convert them to light gray to match your MILS street sidewalks? I converted to MILS about a year ago, and I'm still struggling on deciding what to do about the sidewalk colors.
Is oils of loved to see you actually put the building itself onto the base plate and not cut out so we could see how easy or tricky it could be pressing it down to the base plate. Could you maybe do that for another building please and thank you. Overall love the vids and love the content mate, very helpful
This might be an amateur question, but why can’t you just put the 32x32 Baseplate directly on top of the MILS plate without having to do a full conversion? Is it because some of the modular buildings can cause the base plate to bend or warp upwards on the edges?
Since I haven’t started building my city yet I’m gonna start building the most points system what are the differences for the roads Mills plates using the new road pieces? Never mind just found the other video you posted a few days ago🤦🏼
I've converted the Spring Lantern onto MILS and yes you can convert the half with the pavilion pretty easily but the half with the lake needs to be essentially rebuilt
Thank for the vid! Quick thought: Why are you using tan baseplates instead of green or blue especially when the color doesn't matter? Tan baseplates are retired and about double the cost of a blue or green baseplates. Just a thought, save the tan for underwater, zoo, farm or future wild west area of the amusement park. lol.
Whats the use of MILS plates? Is it just used to make up for Legos bad new road design? Because it seems very expensive, to build a MILS plate, just to use it as a baseplate.
I gotta be honest, new uploads always make my day that much better. That custom ramp for the firehouse makes the whole station pop. That's ingenious. The smallest of details can have the largest effect and I love it.
Really doesn't look like a bad process, just time consuming and part hungry. Puts my mind at rest for when I do mine! fantastic video, thanks!
Super helpful, I have been watching for years and have some modulars I have wanted to put on a MILS, but never did. Now and I am and went back to find this one. Thanks! :-)

I have been wondering how you were doing this, so happy to see this in action!
This is cool. As a software engineer who wants to build my own city someday, this is an awesome system! The whitepaper for it is a good read too. Thanks for the tutorials and documenting this process!!!
Nice conversion. I like what you did with the road plate, integrating the ramp into it, looks sleek!
Love this, but how do you go about it when the city set is built on angles?
The custom road plate forming the ramp is a touch of class
This was VERY helpful, and i now know how a MILLS plate is build and what a MILLS plate is! Thank you! 🙂
I enjoy the mills vids cus my city is all mills and I enjoy
learning new tricks with the mills plates!!
It's good to see the fire brigade getting some love that's an oldy but a goody

Lol I saw that part where you dared him to stand on the plate, can't say I've done that myself
MILS may be great for you, but not for me. Just for personal preferences. Great video. Always makes my day better to watch your videos and vlogs.
With the base plate removed, you can replace the Technics connector bricks on the building walls with normal bricks. The connector bricks are no longer needed now that MILS plate handles connection.
I pulled those out and used them in the MILS plates. No difference just using 1x2 technic.
I would build the set on top of the mills
Don't think I've seen your vids before, but when you swung around to your Lego city I about fell out of my chair!
Holy canola oil Batman!!
awesome video jordan the upgrade looks amazing
How many tow by two bricks would I need for one mils plate if that is all I use? Thank you for making your videos, I really enjoy them,
The mils system looks really good!
Thank you for the information. I will be referring to it often!
Thanks for this tutorial 👍
For the assembly square on a base 48 x 32, how do ?
If we made 2 MILS 32 x 32 + 16 x 32, the link is not enought no ?
Thanks for showing this, I was always very curious about this part
Not sure when you got the Fire Brigade, but did you have any trouble with the reddish brown pieces snapping? I am just starting to convert my city to mils plates. It’s quite the task but well worth it.
What are you using for the bottoms of the " mils" plate? Can a person use those regular grey base plates?
Doing your Road transition for Mils looked a lot easier. Can see you are going to have a lot of fun having to swap out all those modulars ha looking good though 👍🏻
Thanks for the content sharing your MILS experience… just a question, why don’t you use the base plate that comes already with the modular building to be the “top” of your MILS in this case?
Baseplates don't adapt to bricks
Good video mate, this is a great journey 👍
i actually did this and put 4 mils new road plates on top.Put a few bits of lego on the board and then put hagrids hut on ,also where you can put little bits of lego to make the roadway i put flowers and bits of lego to make raised rocks .It looked really good and i think unusual.someone gave them to me and i dont really have a city so i thought of a creative way to use them
I just used the 8 X 8 Plates on my large plate... 4 of those work fine and you don't need to add all the bricks of you don't modularize...
You would need 16 of those. But yeah any size works. For now we are just using whatever we have in our inventory
Hiya, I’m doing research for my own Lego city and just wondering how you organise all the parts you need for each plate? Thanks
I actually started with a 48x48 with the corner building to have a modular with a road. This is so much better
Yay I wanted to know this so bad Thxx Jordan!!!
This looks cool! I really love the mils style road!
Yesss more milss
You could also remove the withe line from the road in front of the ramp!
Do you have instructions for the fire brigade in above photo?
did you change the tiles around the number 3 on the fire brigade from LBG to DBG ?
Looks awesome very cool. Thank you.
I want to do this so bad!! Especially the roads, they look so good. My city I want to kinda go a different route though, like those mocs that are like a diorama the details in the buildings and land.

Great video bricksie
Did you put your Assembly Square on 48 x 48
Thanks for the tutorial 👍
How do you transfer a building that is not built in square angles, e.g. 10293 (Santa‘s Visit) ?
Im new to this. What’s the best place to get all of the small plates and bricks in mass to make these? I have a few sets but not extra pieces. Thanks!!
I've actually never seen the inside of the Fire Brigade 😅 and also Town Hall (I know you didn't show that). Really an awesome custom road plate for that Fire Brigade 🔥 that's fire!
Why do you recommend 4x4 over 16x16?
so if i'm planning on starting with the module buildings, should I use the included 32x base as the top instead of the4x4s or should i use the included base as the bottom and get 64 4x4?
You make it look alot simpler that I have seen it done ! Question... how do you know if it is going to fit one plate or more ? What do you do if is smaller or an odd size ?
Where do you buy your 4 x 4 plates
OMG now Im considering mils plates!
Looks fantastic!
Thx for the tips! Also I am starting to collect some modulars any recommendations?
This is a really useful video👍
Very useful video! Thanks bricksie

The modulars will remain dark grey, to remain how the builds were intended.
Love mills!!!
Is oils of loved to see you actually put the building itself onto the base plate and not cut out so we could see how easy or tricky it could be pressing it down to the base plate.
Could you maybe do that for another building please and thank you.
Overall love the vids and love the content mate, very helpful
Do you walk inside with outside shoes?
Maybe you want to upgrade your building .... * pauses as if to build excitement * ...
We won't be doing that in this video....
I died, haha.
I’m just gonna build my Modular on a separate baseplate will that work?
Thank you for the video.
This might be an amateur question, but why can’t you just put the 32x32 Baseplate directly on top of the MILS plate without having to do a full conversion?
Is it because some of the modular buildings can cause the base plate to bend or warp upwards on the edges?
You can’t connect to the bottom of a baseplate so there’s nothing to keep it in the right place
if he does the grand emporium next i will be very happy
How do you do it for buildings that are 48x32
Since I haven’t started building my city yet I’m gonna start building the most points system what are the differences for the roads Mills plates using the new road pieces?
Never mind just found the other video you posted a few days ago🤦🏼
Jordan would love to see a tutorial video on how to do the roadplate design for the firehouse driveway
Roger that
At the end, that actually looks great. What about doing a MILS plate with a road? Are you gonna show us how to do that?
Available here th-cam.com/video/fm-Zdy9AI7M/w-d-xo.html
Hi Jordan, great vid 😁
Ah man I'd love to add roads like this but I just don't have room unfortunately.
Love your tutorial. Why could you not just leave the 4x4 tiles off the top of the Mils plate and just pop the entire modular on top?
Why not set the exit gate from fire brigade on same level as the roads?
love this, thanks
Nice video jordan
Can you show us how to convert a 16x32 modular to the mils like a half of the book shop?
It's essentially the same thing!
Wait he’s at 200k🤯🤯🤯 I remember when he hit 50/100/150 man…
It looks good
Where do you find those 4x4 plates?
LEGO PAB walls pr BrickLink
Any thoughts on how to convert the spring lantern festival? Probably just a full rebuild right?
We'll probably include it in a video eventually once we get to it, but yes you'd probably have to rebuild a significant amount of it.
@@Bricksie thanks, It'd also be interesting to see how you'd convert non baseplate buildings like the home alone set. Love the city and content.
I've converted the Spring Lantern onto MILS and yes you can convert the half with the pavilion pretty easily but the half with the lake needs to be essentially rebuilt
Is the lego technic land rover worth it?
hi bricksie, are you planning to relocate 10182 corner cafe back to your city 4 years ago?
thanks for this
What about building the Modular’s over the road plate so you don’t get that double pavement? The extra space at the back could be a back lane?
Awesome job! If you calculated the time to do this what would be your estimate?
It depends on the modular building. Some have a lot more detail. We did 2 last night and it took about 2 hours, so I'd say 1 hour on average.
Which part # is used to clip in a MILS anyone know?
Thank for the vid! Quick thought: Why are you using tan baseplates instead of green or blue especially when the color doesn't matter? Tan baseplates are retired and about double the cost of a blue or green baseplates. Just a thought, save the tan for underwater, zoo, farm or future wild west area of the amusement park. lol.
Converting the Diner is going to be tricky!
Bur exciting 😃
Hi Bricksie great vids keep um comin, could you of just turned building upside down then build a mils plate from that (upside down mils plate) ?
I don't think that would be very secure. The parts would likely break apart a lot as you did it.
Ok I hear u 👍🏼
Moving LEGO creations feels for me like: moving out 😂
Whats the use of MILS plates?
Is it just used to make up for Legos bad new road design? Because it seems very expensive, to build a MILS plate, just to use it as a baseplate.
They can be completely customized, so you can add more realistic detail than the previous roads, as well as landscaping plates.
How do I like a video twice??
You forgot the sewer by the special baseplate. 👍
I am unlucky, I converted my modular yesterday. Probably could’ve used this video
I’m gonna have to do it’s again, I forgot the plates on top
