*SPECIAL* [Vietnam] Fire Drill With Rare 'Piercing-Arm' Truck!

  • Captured here is a firefighting exercise in downtown Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The drill was held at the Metropolitan building in the city center and the District 1 division of the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Department responded to the simulation with a command car, utility vehicle, ladder, pumper, and a rarely seen Gimaex/ Gradall robotic 'piercing-arm' pumper. This tool enables firefighters to break through a roof or wall during a structure fire, and the nozzle can then pump thousands of liters of water directly into the interior. Also seen in the video are two ambulances responding to unrelated real-life emergencies.

    Some of us here in HK still wince when we see Gimaex, a while back HKFSD ordered about a dozen Gimaex hydraulic platform's but they were an utter failure when it came to testing in HK. Lawsuits entailed but HKFSD lost after a couple of years, and the Gimaex's have just been parked collecting dust since.

    • @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
      @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha that would be cool!
      Oh wow I didn’t know about that. A dozen?! That must have been a lot of wasted funds (that could have gone into some grille lights...😆)!
      Are there any pics of these trucks? What was wrong with them exactly?
      I know a lot of departments use Gimaex, but I’m not sure how good they really are. Vancouver has at least one on order to replace the downtown ladders.

      If you search "GIMAEX Multifuncional hydraulic rescue platform" it should be the first vid, since the manufacturer actually made a video to promote themselves with the product back then lol
      Lots of problems, apparently it couldn't handle the high temperatures and humidity of HK and it caused electrical failures, which meant the boom could not lift up. Also water pressure was not consistent, and at times consistently too low to reach the heights required for many HK buildings.

      @@mlps93 were the HK GIMAEXs really that bad? Keelung City has three Gimaex TLs now and they seem to like them (though Keelung definitely doesn't get as many fire calls as HK lol)

    Oh man.... every Vietnam vid you put out is a treat, but a Vietnam *FIRE* video? That's a three-course gourmet meal :)
    And the piercing arm truck is a real neat feat for them to have! (Worth noting is that it has a One-Seven system too which allows it to use both foam and water) Hopefully as time goes on they get better equipment to go with it.

      Thank you Jimmy! I was saving this one for a special occasion :)
      Yes you’re right, it’s an interesting tool to have. Although I’m not sure how effective it actually is in a real life scenario (or whether anyone there is really trained to use it).
      The irony is that they have fancy machines like this, but do not even have proper gear and clothes at the same time. The basic building block of any organization is it’s people, but their protection is evidently not a priority for the higher-ups!
      It’s a common thing in Vietnam that the emphasis will be on showing off ‘flashy’ technology, which looks good in the media, while there is actually no system behind it, and other areas are lacking. Prioritizing and effective development is not a strength of the government there...

    Awesome captures you got here! That piercing-arm pumper is one mighty fine rig. Too bad we weren't able to see it actually break into walls and spray water. I wonder if that was a donation or the government actually paid for that. Hopefully more fire departments around the country will soon acquire this life-saving rig.
    8:00 Smoking while driving on the job? Ohh dear. I don't have a problem having a smoke while having a break at the station, but doing so while on the job and in public doesn't look good on your morale and image :-/

      Thank you sir! :)
      Yes, it is an interesting tool to have, but I am not sure how usable it would actually be in a real life situation (or whether anyone there is really trained to use it).
      I believe this tool, being quite new and expensive, would have been purchased and not donated. Why they went with such a truck though I have no idea.
      You are right, I was not sure if I should even include the smoking firefighter in the video. However it is the reality.
      There is a drastic lack of training, discipline and safety for these firefighters. Also note how they still ride unprotected on the ladder trucks, a deadly safety risk!
      A common problem in Vietnam, money is being pumped into fancy technology (that will look good in the media), while other more critical aspects, such as proper gear and protective clothing, are lacking!

    • @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses
      @TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree, the uniforms are completely useless and inadequate for firefighting. They provide no protection from fire and firefighters in Vietnam have been known to get suffer 3rd degree burns while trying to put out fires. Unfortunately this is still an issue in some countries, and often funds are not allocated properly.
