Wow! I haven't been to that mall since moving out of state about 7 years ago, but I used to work right by on Skokie Blvd and would regularly go to this mall on my lunch break. In fact, I had been going there my entire life, I grew up in the Long Grove area (I went to Stevenson HS). Whenever I'd go there, as a child, teen, or adult, it was always busy. I can't believe this mall with so many wonderful memories, is dying. Very sad.
I grew up in Glencoe. So NBC was a huge part of my childhood. I went there so often in the late 80s and through the 90s when I was a kid and then teenager. I even worked for two different stores at NBC when I was younger. I still live in the area and when I walk through this mall today, I still remember exactly where all my favorite stores used to be located when I was a kid (Sharper Image, FAO Schwarz, The Nature Company, Babbages, the food court and sooo many others). It’s always so nostalgic for me walking in there now and it really is sad how much the mall has declined since those years. Today practically more than half of the retail spots available are now empty. Hopefully one day NBC will come back to its former glory.
It really sucks to see that my local mall is dying. The architecture of this mall is very beautiful and unique. I think this mall gets a lot of competition with Old Orchard since it’s nearby and a lot of people go there.
What’s sad about this mall is that they kicked out Macy’s when the store wasn’t even set for closure. That particular location was a beautiful former Marshall Field’s store, which had a lot of charm. They ended up doing nothing with the site….
That Mall always had Musical Chairs of different Retailers and Restaurants. Sears lasted only about 7 yrs. The replacements were one step down. The immediate area couldn't'//didn't support it after the WOW factor wore off. People use go to that Mall to Window shop and People watch them Shop of a gift item so they didn't look cheap. Now they buy it online . Now I take my Dogs for walks inside Malls until Iam get kicked out. The People who have Big Money don't Shop in Malls. Lake Forest a close by very Wealthy suburb had a Small downtown Marshall Fields for decades that they shopped at. My friend was the head Chef at one of N.B courts classy restaurants . Even on Friday and Saturday night it was hit and miss. Why? because their Regulars wanted to go to their original Downtown Chicago location for the Compete Night On the Town experience..
Northbrook Court used to be a better mall. When Macy’s closed for good, this mall started to go downhill followed by Covid-19. I think everyone is going to Old Orchard in Skokie instead.
Corner Bakery closed due to pandemic and upended bankruptcy.also Subway,Starbucks.nothing has come because this property defaulted on a loan.Brookfield is looking to sell the property and the village of Northbrook is waiting to hear the next steps forward.the future of this mall will be demalled.all you really need is more restaurants and a mix of a winning formula of a few names and there you go.I’m really surprised they haven’t tried an outlet style mall at one time kind of like the concept at Rosemont.
It's a shame. Maybe they will redevelope it like Fox Valley and Yorktown with apartment homes, condos, and other businesses like doctors and other businesses. Northbrook Mall is a very nice looking mall featured in movies like Weird Science. The last movie I went to go see there was Crank which tells you how long ago I was there. For the older generations, our social media is dying. Which is your local mall. But it's not all social media either. You have to blame online shopping like Amazon and other companies. Malls do need to evolve but it's a shame that the younger generations won't experience a mall like we used to in the 1970's to the 1990's. Going there for holidays like Christmas and seeing the mall all decked out in Christmas decorations. Visiting with Santa. Riding the trains inside the mall if they offered it. Not only that but the tangible experience of perusing items before purchasing which is something you can't do online. In my opinion, today's youth is lazy. We went to malls to escape home and spend time with friends. You could spend the entire day there in a relatively safe environment. You could have fun at a mall. Not anymore. They have become eyesores on the public landscape and a remnant of what once was.
I’ve never seen a mall shoot itself in the foot like this. Kicking out Macy’s was a horrible mistake, it took so much traffic away from the mall. You don’t kick out a popular anchor and then just not do anything with the property.
When I visited in April, i was shocked to see its decline. Nothing like it was even just a couple years ago. If they dont make changes, it wont be around too much longer ☹️
Yeah I can't sugar coat this mall. It lost a whole bunch of tenants since I filmed it last. I mean if they wanted to have this redeveloped and everything they would have hurried up and built what they were going to build as soon as Macy's was torn down but now it is looking like an eyesore.
Great location for residential. Suspect financing could be slowing things up ??. Plenty of money in that area !!!! All malls are up for re-development in coming years. They are tearing down Allstate and Baxter campus,s near by too. Times have changed
Yeah I'm assuming it's probably going to be like Hawthorne where there's apartments on top and stores on the bottom. I really love those type of developments. Burr Ridge Town Center is a prime example
Wow, I wasn't expecting this mall to die so fast, looks to have died faster than both Stratford and Spring Hill Sadly, will not be surprised if this gets sold to a slumlord owner like Namdar or Kohan in the near future
Yeah it's a shame. I'm just disappointed they tore down a beautiful department store building and now an empty lot just sits there for 2 or 3 years. As soon as everything was torn down at Fox Valley they immediately redeveloped it.

Oh man... I used to work at Woody's, a restaurant outside the mall on 1995 for a short period. This Shopping was busy, such a shame, oh boy!

That Apple Store is crazy busy, it’s been keeping that mall afloat.

Wow, I didn't know it was this bad at Northbrook Ct.

I really Love the Fountain!!!! F+L, Corey
probably will become apartments and condominiums

Reminds me of Fox Valley.
Well at least Fox Valley hurried up and redeveloped their empty Anchor Properties. I don't know what's taking them so long up at Northbrook
I suspect fields and Newman owned the store and got tired of paying taxes !!!!

Is this mall owned by one of the three deadly property groups?
No it's not. Brookfield owns it
Look dead mall
