Tony Geary of General Hospital made a live TV appearance here in 1981 when the show was extremely popular and there’s full behind the scenes video of it on YT. Pretty wild ! That brought me here out of curiosity to see the place now.
Boy I am glad that I found this channel. North brook Ct is a small upscale mall, probably due to its proximity to the affluent north shore community. Neiman Marcus is the anchor store, and I have to say it’s better than the one located in Oak Brook. You can also find Louis Vuitton boutique there, a rarity among suburban malls.
Parts of the film "Weird Science" were filmed at Northbrook Court. I died laughing when Kelly Lebrock holds up a g-string to an old lady salesclerk in Neiman's and asks "Do you have this in leather or rubber or barbed wire?". I still have a cashmere sweater I bought at Jeager in this mall around 1981. I paid about $300 for it on sale. I was a bougie little teenager. Sears didn't do well because in the 1980s Northbrook was a much smaller town. It was very very rich and those folks weren't Sears customers. I.Magnin was where the movie theater is now. It's hard to imagine apartments in Northbrook lol. The Zodiac Room at Neiman's was THE hip place to lunch at back in the day.
This was my favorite mall when I lived in Chicago, 25 years ago. Great mix of stores here. Many of the same stores as Oak Street in the city. If any mall is going to make it through the pandemic, it’s this one.
Urbex- A Peak Inside Well Neiman Marcus filled for bankruptcy and they say Lord and Taylor might open up there stores to liquidate them so I am not sure anymore. I hope it sticks around.
That comment aged WELL. H&M is closing in January, Lord & Taylor closed, Macy’s was demolished, the Macys court is completely dead, all they have is Tony & Bruno’s and GAP and Banana republic, dom Itp, Victoria’s Secret, Francesca’s, Abercrombie & Fitch, Burberry, etc all closed
You may have already noticed but I modernized the format for this video along with successive dead - non dead mall videos which includes updated intros and new style camera work. Many aspects that make Urbex a Peak Inside unique and what subscribers come to expect will not change. Let me know what you all think!

It's actually nice to see a vacant space taken care of as soon as possible instead of "trying to find a new tenant" for the Macy's space, which I doubt would be snapped up quickly. That empty anchor if it continued to be there would drag the mall down. I don't know how many times a mall's owner has done that tenant for an empty anchor search with success these days, most I've seen are major fails (resulting in anchor getting a short term tenant, which then fails, or it just continues to stay empty because no one wants it). (since there are very few owners of department stores left and those who are left many are floundering) We have a shopping center here that did a similar thing with apartments on the mall structure...in fact it has two apartment/condos on it, but it was done back when it was owned by GGP (also got bought out by Brookfield). If I recall the expansion where the Sears used to be was part of that second apartment complex renovation. (Biggest and Oldest mall in my state, been around since 1959)
The only reason why I go to this mall is because Lakehurst Mall closed down. Northbrook Court currently is the most identical mall that's not that far away and of what Lakehurst Mall used to be. Don't get me wrong this mall is good but it was never near as good as Lakehurst Mall.
Especially Lakehurst Mall. Northbrook Court is a watered down version of Lakehurst Mall and Northbrook Court had less stores that were good. Also Lakehurst Mall was a lot more packed. Lakehurst Mall used to be in Waukegan Illinois.
Oh wow, that was a Saturday? I remember in the late 80s this mall was packed. I guess this is why malls are shutting down and why this mall is attempting to stay open by building a Logan's Run type of complex where the Macy's was.
Beautiful mall and a great example of a modern design done right. I fear AMC and Neiman Marcus might go under during or after the pandemic. I don't see people flocking to theatres or dept stores anytime soon. :/
You shouldn’t miss Northbrook Court now as 30+ stores have closed since this video! From Lord & Taylor to Victoria’s Secret to H&M to Abercrombie & Fitch to J. Crew!
At the rate things are going, the mall won’t survive much longer. There’s not enough stores or the right stores to attract people. It’s half empty and if Neiman Marcus closes, it’s definitely over
@@kyleholbrook1288 that’s what I’m hoping, and for the Macy’s to become Von Maur or dillards. The glen which is nearby has Von Maur but they could relocate.
I used to work at Northbrook Court after high school. My girlfriend worked at Lord and Taylor. Both stores I worked at are long gone now.
Great video. Thanks.
Request: do the Randhurst Village

I think you should do another one here. This one looked like it was almost dead a few months ago when I went.
Childhood mall for me. Sucks when you realize your most visited spot is called dead

This my local mall it’s dead bro
I came a lot in February and march
On different days
I’m alone with some other people and employees it’s dead
This is no longer the mall it was 😭😭😭no one goes in 2020 before corona virus
Beautiful mall, it looks expensive. I’m glad to see a mall doing well.
The redevelopment should do wonders to it. Unfortunately as of May, Lord & Taylor filed for bankruptcy.

Urbex- A Peak Inside I was able to like your page but I didn’t get a link to the group.
It was good but it didn't look as good as Lakehurst Mall in Waukegan Illinois
Lord and Taylor's closed down recently in December 26, 2020. So now there is only one anchor store open left.
2. AMC is a anchor but not a department store.

Agreed. Your seen that a lot more and malls that are doing well for the smaller stores but the department store spaces need to be refilled.

It has a nice warm aesthetic. Hope it stays that way
Great video man! Great soundtrack in the beginning!
I may missed Sears in Northbrook Court
Visited last week - very dead, it’s quite sad.
Worked there since 2004. Drastic changes thru the years. The end was when they got rid of the full food court to keep the teens out. Stupid.
Now they were trying to add it in the new outdoor design that failed lol
