I haven’t used a whipped butter yet because of how hot it’s been this summer. Decided to wait until it cools down maybe by fall to get a whipped, but I have Detroit grooming butter and ruddy man summer butter and rotate between those, awesome results
@beard octane neutral butta and @live bearded straight up butter are my favorite. My curly/wavy hair doesn’t respond well (I don’t like the heavy/stiff feeling in beard) to waxy beard products and I avoid yellow products in my grey/white beard hair which was a tip from a professional barber/stylist.
Robert, 3Degree Men's Care is currently working on a nightime butter without lavender, but it is being designed to improve sleep patterns. Stay tuned.....
Presently using Detroit “Traverse City”, and Corktown” butters. Like you’ve said, a game changer. So(having the same dense, texture beard as you) I choose w/a little wax.
I use the Detroit Beard Butter. I have not tried the whipped butter yet. My routine is oil, leave in conditioner, then beard butter during the day. it helps keep my beard softer and more manageable. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the vid, as always. I'm almost done with my Bad Dog Amber Oak butter (beeswax is the last carrier listed). It was my first bedtime butter and it works well. Next on deck is Ruddy Man Summer Butter in The Goat scent (it has no beeswax), so more will be revealed. I have been eyeballing DGC Belle Isle because I think the scent would be great for night time.
Both are great! I like to use them for added body..sometimes I feel it helps it look fuller?! Maybe not idk. But don’t really care if it tames fly-a-ways as the blow dryer helps with that.
Great video Dan! You turned me Onto butter about 3 months ago and my beards never been so healthy. Putting that butter in at night(only) is like drinking water when you’re really thirsty. Total game changer! Personally I go with Detroit Grooming co. - Black and love it to the point I haven’t even tried anything else! 🧔💪🏻💯
Dan C Bearded I do. No local companies offer beard butter here in QC and the exchange rate and shipping fees from the US are really not worth it for me. I have an african college that I exchange tips with, she brought me pure shea and cocoa butters directly from Africa, works magic!!!!
There are so many great companies and great scents that I won't let myself choose one or the other. I always use butters at night and occassionally during the day.
I can't say I prefer one over the other, but the heavier butters feel like they're doing a better job of moisturizing. Personally I think creme is a great name for Husky Beards "butter" because the feel in beard is so different. It looks and feels whipped but it has that heavier moisturizing feeling. You can put them right in the middle of a Beard Octane/Beard Justice and a Barbu Beard/Beards Dignified. I've stayed away from buying oils and balms lately, so I can focus on trying all the different butters out there. A lot of great stuff and I don't think I'll ever pick a favorite
Completely agree with what you said about husky beards creme. It really appears to be whipped but once you get it in your hand and it starts emulsifying you can tell there's more to it.
I tend to use wax butter during the day time and non wax butter or whipped during the night. I like them both. When some one says it's not really a butter when it has wax, I say then there shouldn't be oils in them if you really want a pure butter in that case. I dont mind both and like to use both.
Honestly had never used butter before watching your channel, not it's a must at night. My beard feels so much healthier now and that's one of the top reasons. My personal favorite is a whipped because I think it's easier to apply, but I do switch it up every now and then because I like to try new ones
I recently purchased Wild Willies Beard Co beard butter and it is great in my beard and I only use it in my night application. It is full of good nourishing stuff such as castor oil, beeswax, shea butter, sweet almond oil, argan oil, grape seed oil, jojoba oil, tea tree oil, cedarwood oil, rosemary leaf extract, soybean oil, and sunflower seed oil. Its a pleasant experience putting it in as well as the next morning being very soft. This product is at a very reasonable price. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for right around 10 bucks for 2 ounces. You can't beat it!
Awesome Video DanC! Love me my butters. I love all the different consistency butters. Whipped, Poured/Creamy, with Wax, without Wax etc... if it provides that nourishment, conditioning, and hydration... I’ll give it a try! 9/10 I’m going Oil during the day, and Butter at night. There are times where I will use butter during the day (not right now due to heat and humidity) and typically if it’s for the day I’ll use one with a little wax. That way I get all the benefits of the butter + a little styling to take care of some flyaways. Most of the time I do prefer a butter with no wax for the nighttime, especially if im not showering in the morning. It makes it easier to manage in the morning. If you use a waxed butter at night, and aren’t showering or washing the beard in the morning... that wax can be a pain. It takes quite a bit of effort to get all the wax out in the morning. But... a company like DGC for instance, that has wax in their butter, I still use at night. It’s too good not to use at night. Also, with DGC, it’s such a small amount of wax that even if I don’t wash/cowash in the morning, it’s easy to wash out. I love them all. Due to the summer, and the ridiculous heat and humidity... I am in a phase where I’m preferring no wax right now... but for the most part I love them all and use them all. I never use the same product back to back. Every night I’m using a different butter and half of the time it’s a whipped no wax butter, and the other half it’s the creamy wax butter. Just last night I used DGC Traverse City Butter... mmm soo good... and tonight I’m using Beard Octane Liquid Gold Butter... Who knows what I’ll use tomorrow lol. What makes a butter... a butter? There’s people who say if it has wax it’s not a butter but a balm. Wrong. It can be a butter with wax in it. What is the products purpose? If the products main purpose is to nourish, keep hydrated, and condition your beard... it’s a butter. If the main purpose of the product is to style and add hold to your beard... it’s a balm. Period. You should use beard oil. Beard oil is used to treat your skin not the hair. It has some benefits for your hair but helps keep your skin healthy. Dan C has a great video on the benefits of beard oil, if you haven't seen to check it out. 👍👍
Nighttime=always a light wax butter or a poured non-wax butter (need to try more whipped, not really a fan yet). Daytime=usually just oil but I'll throw a light wax butter or a balm in depending on how long my day is.
Butter is something I need to get more of. Love it during the day but want some specific night time butters. When I use it at night, I notice the difference in the morning!
I am happy about your categorization of whipped or waxed, and not just for alliteration. I suspect someone could make a channel only about beard butter, and these categories are quite useful. Experience brings me down on the side of wax, but as little wax as possible, even less beeswax than scent. My beard is curly and not very dense, for the most part, so it responds better to being shaped than to being molded by product. But for me in my climate, storing and using butter without wax is not one of the pleasures of maintaining a beard. Thus my preference.
Killer vid my brother as always!!! I was hesitant a while back to try butter just because it seemed to be a waist. Naturally after hearing your facts on it I started and my beard game has been seriously changed. Love the channel brotha and all you do for the community!
I’ve become a “butter guy” and I’ve actually began to wear them during the day as of late; my beard has enough body for me to only use butters if I so desired. Can’t say that I have a preference per say, depends on the mood I’m in that day. I can go whipped, traditional or liquid .. They all work. Thanks for the vid my brotha!👊🏾
Great information, Dan! I use both types of butters in a regular basis. As you said, for me, some kind of butter is a must every night-it just depends on where I am in my rotation or my needs for the night as to which I choose. If I’m feeling like my beard is really dry, or I just need a bit more body, I’m likely to use a wax based butter like Detroit Grooming or Uncle Donnie’s. If I need something lighter, I go with the whipped. It also depends on the scent I wore that day, and what might match (or at least not clash) with that. Either way, my beard always feels so much better in the morning !
I use beard butter a lot as I like a more natural look in my beard. I definitely prefer a butter with beeswax that little bit of hold I get is good for me. There is a local company in my area called Baarden. Have you tried there products yet?
Not necessarily whipped, either or just prefer butters without beeswax as if I was going to go something with beeswax I might aswell go a balm. I try to keep my beard styled the way I want it by having it trimmed the correct way rather than having to use balm to form it. Oil and butter is all I need really 👍
I prefer the unwhipped with beeswax but I'm really liking the lux butter that's un whipped with no wax and there is a few more companies coming out with similar products. I'm a hug fan of beard butter is one of my favorite beard products to try out.
I feel guilty that I've put my Detroit Grooming on the back burner and only been using butter without any waxes lol but personally I've had much better results using the whipped style butters in my night routine and then like you I just use oil in the morning and im set! In my beards shorter days I needed the wax for control because I kinda have an unruly beard haha and it just does what it wants unless I tame it a little but now that its getting longer gravity does all the work so I just focus on keeping it nourished!!
I have not used a beard butter for some time now. MY beard balm has a leave in conditioning agent in it that will soften your beard and help with the split ends. Great video. May have to look into the butters again.
Lets say that a company only offers Balms and not Butters. But in the Balm the Bee's Wax is low on the ingredient list and Shea Butter is first. Could this be used as a night time Butter?
I’d rather a beard butter that doesn’t contain wax. The waxy beard butters may as well be balms and I only used balms when I wanted to fix my beard before doing to a wedding or a formal occasion for example but every other time I enjoy my oils and wax free butters. Nice and natural and not sticky 👌🏼
I do butter at night, but am thinking of doing it midday. I work graveyard shift and only sleep a few hours before I go to work and I think the butter makes my beard to shiny when I go to work if I do it right before I lay down. I do purely oil during the daytime. Great video Dan. Have a great weekend.
Great video brother! Just recently got into butter after lots of thought. Bought Detroit Grooming for my first try of butter and I am blown away!! I’m with you on it strictly being a night time routine for me. As of right now I don’t really have a use for it during the day, since I use oils and balms for that time. Can’t wait to try out some new companies in the game. Definitely interested in trying some whipped butters.
Great video! I love beard butter. I prefer the whipped beard butter myself. I find that the bees wax doesn't do much for my beard and I just want the moisture and nourishment. Thick and curly! More curls than waves for sure. Beard octane has whipped so now I'm gonna try husky beard creme.
I don't think I have ever experienced a whipped because they are dead now. I have used Live Bearded, Beard octane, and Dr Nick's are the main ones I have tried. The first two are almost a velvety soft, and Nick's is I guess more full bodied if I am correct? I know it doesn't have beeswax but my beard feels extra nourished when I use Nick's.
I think I will have to make my own beard butter because I'm not really of fan of wax in my butters and I can't seem to find a company that doesn't use wax
Great video dan!! I really like some more night time scents but have been doing a lot of daytime butters as well ! Just likening the way it makes my beard feel!
Great video again. Is it in your DNA to put out a bad video? All of them are always informative. I used both types at night. I pick my butters on what scent I want for the night. So whipped or wax doesnt matter. I sometimes use butter when its really dry to keep my beard from drying out instead of balm. And from my experience it does really well because we all know every beard ia different.
Thank you Eric! I never ever put out videos just to get videos out. I really put my everything in to my videos. I try to educate above all. Answer questions before beardsmen even know they have it as a question
Great video Dan! I used beard Octane butta at night in rotation with Detroit Grooming. I then use Detroit Grooming night time and some day time rotation instead of balm. My top two favorite companies and I love their butters!
Just got my Uncle Donnie’s, before that it was Ruddy Man and Command and Conquer butters. The UD gives a little hold, but I like the whipped more at night.
Great video Dan! I’ve tried DGC and love their Corktown scent, I just received a package from Husky Beard to try out their Akoni beard butter and LOVE it. So I use both also, I try to use one without wax at night. My first butter I ever tried was Live Beared’s new line of butters and still have a ton and like it’s texture and scents, it has NO wax but somehow still has great hold somehow....it doesn’t melt down like Detroit GC butter does
@@DanCBearded oh Yah i was thinking benefits. And I figured whipped is just easier to work through the beard because how light it is. That is also the conclusion I came to.
Hi Dan, i live in rural country in Australia and I don't have access to these wonderful products that you talk about. At the moment I'm using Bull Dog original beard balm for my night routine because it's a really creamy texture. What are your thoughts about this product or could you do a review on it. Thanks heaps mate, love what you do. Cheers Joe.
Dan, i just saw an ad for husky cream. Idk about you but i hate that beard sheen or glisten that I thought I got from balm. Can you shed some light on what causes that glisten. I have seen it on myself in the sunlight so I quit the oil and balm in the mornings after the shower and went with just oil. Started using balms at night before bed. A coworker grew out his beard this winter and I see it in his beard. What causes that? Over oil, the balms? And the husky cream, could that be used and the idea is it won't cause that sheen?
I make and sell beard products. And i have tried organic shea butter and kokoa butter in the butters for testing and they both stink. Mostly because the are not deodorized. Might try deodorized ones. I have tried both with beeswax and candelilla wax and gonna stick to candelilla wax.
Awesome video! So when you use a waxed butter at night after your shower, do you have to wash the wax off in the morning before adding your oil and/or butter for the day?
I've used pretty much wax in every product except the oils, until yesterday. Yesterday I tried a beard butter that I've had for awhile, but never tried before. It has no wax and it was exactly what I think I've been looking for. Beard butter without wax in it seems to be great for long beards. What I used was Fresh Beard Beach beard butter. The smell is coconut, but not too strong. But it's the way it works and how makes my beard feel is what is so awesome. Also it seems to work very well when co washing, which never worked very well before with waxed products, for me anyway. I highly recommend the wax-less beard butter by whatever brand you like best. Just my humble opinion at this particular time. Who knows for the long run. But I'm pretty stoked about it right now. 😁🎉
I use butter at night. But I've also been using it during the day. My coworker who started his beard recently once said: I just want oil. My beard is gonna do what its gonna do. So I've adopted this philosophy along with Scuba's natural beard philosophy.
Your beard wants to be dry and deprived of sebum oil, because that is what the biology does currently. I personally do not want that lol but that sounds like an awesome new journey, keep me posted on the results!
Love Detroit Grooming’s butters! You turned me on to them months ago and my beard thanks you. Hey Dan, are those round cylindrical brushes with the metal around the cylinder and the plastic tines with the little balls on the ends good for your beard? I use butter every night, use oil during the day and cowash almost daily and still get breakage and wonder if it might be that brush. I only use it when I blow dry, using low heat on the low setting. I always use a comb any other time I style and it’s a good Oxhorn comb. I can’t figure out why I am still getting breakage. I don’t pick at my beard either! Lol🤷♂️
Ok dude thanks, I’ll definitely toss it. What brush do you recommend? I have a boars hair brush that I used with a short beard but it just doesn’t work well with my medium to long beard. I like to use one while drying with a blow dryer but I use an oxhorn comb all other times.
Good video Dan. Thanks for producing it- It’s definitely answered a few questions for me. Hey , I just noticed The shirt you were wearing-the image appears to be transposed. Is that intentional?
Hey Dan C Im kind of new to the beard game after spending 12 years in the military. I was introduced to mad viking products and I love it. They only have the washes oils and balms. Ive just started using beard butter after I wash my beard in the morning so that way I can blow dry it straight. After I blow dry it I put a couple drops of oil and then some balm for the little bit of hold since I am a mechanic. Am I putting too much product in or should I use it a different way. After my shower at night I usually just put a couple drops of oil in while im sleeping. Any advise I should try or stop doing thanks in advance and I may have to try that Detroit beard butter I keep hearing good reviews.
Hi Danc juz wanna know before you use beard butter, do you use the beard oil which is from the same company as the beard butter? Also isit ok to use whipped butter without any beard oil?
I use the same company and switch it up sometimes. Either way is fine. I use beard oil before butter at night if I shower. Otherwise I just apply butter to my beard before bed
Well done, Dan! I'm reviewing this because I'm beginning to move away from balms and want to step more into the butter category. I like whipped butters in the evening, but during the day I'd like a butter with a slight hold. So many nuances in this beard game! To be frank, I quite enjoy Beardbrand's utility balm because in addition to be manageable on my hair it includes both lanolin (near the top of their ingredients list) and beeswax (at the bottom of their list). Is there another company out there that produces a butter that also includes these that you'd recommend me trying?
Whipped or wax??? I don’t know about you guys, but I like churned butter myself 🤣🤣🤣 I like to use both myself. Never used Husky myself. Detroit Grooming is money. You can’t go wrong there.
Great video! I won’t name names but I have tens and tens of butters from multiple companies, both whipped and wax... I love them both equally... However, if I decide to use oil and butter for the day, I will always go with a wax for that little hold... For nighttime, i always use butter but it does not matter if it’s whipped or wax, more towards what scent I’m feeling.. Thanks for the vid, DanC!
This is an educational channel. There are plenty of videos using the product, but a huge portion is information. Feel free to checkout my video from yesterday... with actually using products.

I use beard butter a lot as I like a more natural look in my beard. I definitely prefer a butter with beeswax that little bit of hold I get is good for me. There is a local company in my area called Baarden. Have you tried there products yet?
I have not, but would love for them to reach out and make it happen 👊
@@DanCBearded We've already spoken, actually. Perhaps we'll make it happen eventually!
I am presently using Detroit Beard Butter but.. I am considering making a whipped beard butter without the bees wax
I love having both!
Absolutely! I only use balm when testing for a company
I prefer the unwhipped with beeswax but I'm really liking the lux butter that's un whipped with no wax and there is a few more companies coming out with similar products. I'm a hug fan of beard butter is one of my favorite beard products to try out.
Awesome!
I prefer whiped butter... without wax but with aloe.
Sounds wonderful!
Time and gravity heal most things!
I have not used a beard butter for some time now. MY beard balm has a leave in conditioning agent in it that will soften your beard and help with the split ends. Great video. May have to look into the butters again.
Sounds like you are killing it!
@@DanCBearded trying to. Just trying to be different. Will be sending yours out Monday.
I learn something every video thank you mr dan
Thank you 👊 that is always my goal!
When I make my butter I do not use wax I like the lighter feel too it
That's great!
Great vid!
Thank you Ryan!
Lets say that a company only offers Balms and not Butters. But in the Balm the Bee's Wax is low on the ingredient list and Shea Butter is first. Could this be used as a night time Butter?
Absolutely, that is decently common. You can also add a couple of drops of beard oil to the balm and it helps it feel more like a butter
@@DanCBearded What if Lanolin is the first ingredient?
@@AK-ln7op that would probably be on the thicker side
Thanks for the comment Steven!
I'm glad you are liking DGC!
Heck yeah, knowing your own beard is important
@@DanCBearded Exactly! I've tried many products but found all the hold doesn't do hardly anything for me. Thanks brother!
Spot on!
@@DanCBearded Cool! I thought I had it correct.
I think I will have to make my own beard butter because I'm not really of fan of wax in my butters and I can't seem to find a company that doesn't use wax
Great video dan!! I really like some more night time scents but have been doing a lot of daytime butters as well ! Just likening the way it makes my beard feel!
Thanks Vic!
Absolutely love beard octane's butter too!
Thats all... Very Good...
Why thank you!
I've tried both and I love both as well! 👍
Amen to that brotha!
Just got my Uncle Donnie’s, before that it was Ruddy Man and Command and Conquer butters. The UD gives a little hold, but I like the whipped more at night.
Makes sense brotha!
Isn't a beard balm enough for styling a beard? What is the difference between a beard balm and a beard butter?
Balm is equally made for styling and nourishing. Beard butter is mainly made for nourishing
Great video Dan! I’ve tried DGC and love their Corktown scent, I just received a package from Husky Beard to try out their Akoni beard butter and LOVE it. So I use both also, I try to use one without wax at night. My first butter I ever tried was Live Beared’s new line of butters and still have a ton and like it’s texture and scents, it has NO wax but somehow still has great hold somehow....it doesn’t melt down like Detroit GC butter does
What about shea butter isn't just as good as beard butter?😏👍
Not a fan of beard butter...I use a traditional beard balm from Beard Supply.
That's great, thanks for the feedback brotha!
Gold!!
The GOLD!
Can storing butter in the fridge give better results? Would it be fine if it's cold right before I emulsify it?
Yup! Fridge is best storage
What about butter out wax vs wiped what is the difference
The cooling process. Whipped is physically whipped while cooking and others are poured
@@DanCBearded oh Yah i was thinking benefits. And I figured whipped is just easier to work through the beard because how light it is. That is also the conclusion I came to.
I use the detroit grooming co I like to stick with this but vary with different scents
Awesome!
Hi again. A typical beard conditioner or co-wash is not available in indian market, so what can we use for co-washing.
Any kind of quality conditioner will do the job 👊
@@DanCBearded thank you
Great video I like both too beard butter it's a awesome 👊👊
For sure a game changer!
Cheers Joe.
Cheers brotha!
I really dislike the lotion style kind.
Mannn, me 2! Sour cream I call it lol
Hah !! No kidding bro. .
Awesome video! So when you use a waxed butter at night after your shower, do you have to wash the wax off in the morning before adding your oil and/or butter for the day?
I would, yes. You can just fully wet your beard in the sink, dry, and then go through your morning routine
@@DanCBearded Thank you sir!
Thanks William!
Can these replace beard oil by any chance? It's hot and humid here in Mumbai, would it be a good idea?
No, I do not recommend that. Search for my video "dan c beard butter only?"
@@DanCBearded it wont be dry due to the butter.
@@williamreeder2811 I was just saying that in regards to the general statement "my beard is gonna do what its gonna do."
@@DanCBearded oh I wasn't clear buddy. Its basically abstinence to balm, which pissed me off since I gave him all my luxurious balms!
hahaha
Lol🤷♂️
Hey Alan, I personally stay away from those types of brushes. Could very well be the cause
Ok dude thanks, I’ll definitely toss it. What brush do you recommend? I have a boars hair brush that I used with a short beard but it just doesn’t work well with my medium to long beard. I like to use one while drying with a blow dryer but I use an oxhorn comb all other times.
No beeswax
Thanks for the feedback!
I like wax. I want control during the day... I'm in the humid south. My beard is big and gets really wild without some type of control...
Makes sense!
Good video Dan. Thanks for producing it- It’s definitely answered a few questions for me.
Hey , I just noticed The shirt you were wearing-the image appears to be transposed. Is that intentional?
Thanks! And yes, that is on purpose... think about it lol
Dan C Bearded ok. I got it. LOL
@@jtsherrod1 in only a way a narcissist could lol
Is the wild Willie's beard butter a butter or a beard balm? Cause it is a bit waxy
I have never tried that one, sorry brotha!
@@DanCBearded thanks anyway brother!
@@lordmalice4468 🙏
Another great vid thanks man! Definitely wanna try that @huskybeard butter now! Haha
They make amazing stuff!
The words on your shirt are backwards
That's the idea lol think about it... I believe in you, you can do this!
@@DanCBearded exactly why I want one
@@johnnyj5908 heck yeah! From mad yak
What would you consider Orange Krush beard balm?I have been using it lately but the consistency isn’t like any other balm I have used before
I would consider that a light hold balm
Whipped or wax??? I don’t know about you guys, but I like churned butter myself 🤣🤣🤣
I like to use both myself. Never used Husky myself. Detroit Grooming is money. You can’t go wrong there.
Cannot go wrong there at all!
Detroit grooming corktown in the morning and Beard octane Roosevelt at night
You da man
Oh shucks, thanks brotha!
That's a great breakdown of your experiences, thanks for sharing buddy!
