Mate, I am brazilian living in UK and somehow I came to your video. The way you interpret the songs is 100% as a native would do. This song is an anthem and everytime I listen to it tears drop from my eyes.
    Congrats for the video

Actually, when he sings about the descendants of slaves, he uses the word "indenização", in Portuguese. Which best translates into "compensation". He means that, up to this day, black people hasn't received any compensation (moral or financial) for the crime of slavery. Since the word "indenização" sounds similiar to "identificação", I guess the subtitlers misunderstood it, and mixed the words indemnity and identification. 😉

      @m4dn3wt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey Karina! I got what you meant, but Indemnification is actually a word and it wasn't misspelled or a misunderstanding; it means "compensation for harm or loss." In legal terms, it means Compensating a person for damages or losses they have incurred or will incur related to a specified accident, incident, or event. The subtitle crew couldn't have chosen a better word for the translation.

So you know the "mud" reference means that he and his people came from a rough place but they can be beautiful and rare
In another song they say: " even in a landfill grow flower" meaning the same thing
About that part: " i came from the jungle I'm a lion I'm too much for you"
The correct translation is: I came from the jungle I'm a lion I'm too much for your backyard"
The "Planter" mention translate to "The sir of the machine" the machine mention is the one used to crush sugarcane. (Engenho de cana)

"Not slangs, dialect" He's refering to the rich kid's parents segregating the culture: if it's black and poor, it's slangs; if it's rich and white, it's a dialect.

Spot on, I've been living in São Paulo for 15 years now. Been in all sorts of places and I've met lots of different people. I usually call here the Babel Tower, you have the richest people of Brazil in places like Jardins and Faria Lima, but also a lot of poverty in the upskirts neighbourhoods like Tiradentes and São Matheus, for example. I've been in both type of places. Perfect reallity to Racionais make their poetry and protest through music.

About the part "Descendant of a slave who was not entitled to compensation", our Brazil was the last country to end slavery in the world. Your reactions are the best. Rational MCs are top.
Sobre a parte de "Descendente de escravo que não teve direito a indenização", o nosso Brasil foi o último país, a acabar com a escravidão no mundo. Suas reação são as melhores. Racionais MCs são foda.

Vou escrever em português, seu vídeo é ótimo. Uma coisa, o quê ele canta é "descendente de escravos sem direito a indenização". Não "identificação". Indenization, not identification. Saudações de Curitiba Brasil.

Todos os problemas do Brasil se resumem a um, a famigerada desigualdade social, se sociedade brasileira conseguir diminuir a diferença não entre ricos e pobres, mas a diferença entre os pobres e a classe média esse país vai ser um paraíso na terra.

The word "mud" there's two explations imo, in the beginning you will hear he say something like "Negro Drama between success and mud"
Being in the mud is a slang in Brazil meaning, you got problems that are getting heavy, slowing you down, an making hard for you to move or change, or get to where you want to, and maybe you are at each step getting deeper. Is how the Negro community must feel, hopeless.
Besides is "dirty" a reference to slums.
In the end, Mano Brown says the iconic line:
"What comes from the mud? Diamonds", and is a precious, is high demanded and people will crawl in the mud to find them. So, don't be sad, you are a diamond that no one found yet.
And your interpretation, that I actually never thought about it, but makes sense.

Love the attention to the lyrics, great reaction!
5:08 yup, defo a reference to how the police ends up getting honors for killing black people and how normalize this is, all under the excuse of they being criminals.
13:50 the line "No, you shall not pass when the Red Sea opens" speaks to the "God watches the riches, but loves who comes from the guetto", because your origins don't determine the type of person you are. And in this case, they're saying that a good person coming from the guetto is more likely to be "saved" than a rich person, exactly how happened in the bible when the Red Sea opened only for the ones that God wanted to save.

The part of ''stick tupac poster'' .... he is actualy saying that , he just got the attention of kids , inside racist familys by the radio station .. now they talk slangs.. stickn posters , wanting to be black
    .

    • @atroub

What he means on the “slangs/dialect” part is that among the whites, the kid speaks properly, fancy, whilst on the streets he imitates them (rappers) and wants to act black.

    Sorry, I was watching again.
Words, we create them, if we say this is glass, yes, most of us will know what a glass is. But inside Slums, or certain communities they have their own words, they made up, and is how our language developed and those "Slags" they go "mainstream" and suddenly everyone is using, is no longer a Slang, now is part of the culture.
    Well.... I think....
The socio-economic gap in Brazil is huge, São Paulo is bad, but Rio.... Is.... Another level....
