Mans this is a tough song. You should watch the movie Carandiru if you want to understand more about what happened, but even then you wouldn't get all the picture. One of the mains causes of the problems in the Carandiru prison was the over crowded. There were not enough employees to operate the prison, which created a parallel society in which what prevailed was the "jail law", imposed by the inmates themselves. The situation of violence in the prisons only improved later on, with another massacre, somewhat sanctioned/ignored by the state, in which several criminal factions were allowed to fight inside the prisons until only one remained (in this case the PCC: Primeiro Comando da Capital "First Capital Command"), which became the "unofficially responsible" for keeping the peace in the prisons. Which then began to expand within prisons, giving rise to the previously non-existent organized crime in Brazil, which today is in fact a Brazilian mafia with international scope. To this day, prisons in Brazil suffer from overcrowding and serve as the PCC's operation center. The great absurdity of all this is that the problem persists for the same reason it arose, Brazil imported the North American model of War on Drugs as a tool of oppression of the poorest, and blackest, segment of society and continues to use it, as much as tool of oppression, as well as a source of "electoral promise". If you have followed the last elections in Brazil to some extent, you will realize that the extreme right has used the platform of "fighting crime" as its main pillar. The current governor of São Paulo being a great example of this political line. Every country has it's own problems, but some things in Brazil are just unbelievable.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I really appreciate it and it is very helpful in understanding the context of the song better 💙
It's nice to know that even if you don't know the complexity of our culture, you can understand the discourse in the lyrics of Racionais. An important fact about them is that in their 30 years of history, Racionais have never appeared on Brazilian media programs. Given their trajectory, it was based on an almost artisanal work and the promotion was entirely done by fans. Their song that made them nationally known was "Domingo no Parque". thanks for mentioning me in your reaction credits 👍🏾 Put it on your next reactions list - MVBill: Soldado do Morro (hill soldier)
Also when he says he might have to sign a 121 (murder process) it means sign a confession to breaking article 121 of the brazilian penal code (murder). If he murders the dude inside prison theres no way he'll get away with it
Na tradução do seu vídeo eu li " diarreia de um detento . rsrsrs.... ao invés de diário de um detento . Muito show!! Essa música é de mil novecentos e bolinha é nem existia o K9 .
Thank you one more time for the reaction, the respect, the time and your thoughts. Thank you for the interest, very happy to know you saw the doc. Stay hydrated 💗
Thanks for letting me know! I appreciate the subtitles are far from perfect but at least with autotranslated subtitles it is better than nothing and doesn't take lots of additional editing time. Ideally I would make them better but I will have to see how best to do that 💙
Dude since you're into Drill I'd highly recommend reacting to Febem. He's not as well known as racionais so it could be hard finding versions with subtitles but I think you'll enjoy getting to know our current drill scene. I recommend the song "Terceiro Mundo"
I'm from São Paulo Brazil and I lived through that time and I can say one thing, although I like the Racionais I have to say something about their documentary, the lyrics and the group are very realistic, but their documentary is in a way totally illusory. we kind of got old and we want to bring the US reality as if it were the Brazilian one, what I say I don't mean that there wasn't or there wasn't racism and prejudice at the time, but what they do in this documentary is to catch politicians and some famous people who were arrested or killed for committing or getting involved in a crime such as racism, in several parts of the documentary they do this and it gives the impression to those who do not live or have never been here that we are in the era of racism in the USA in the 1960s and that they were the black panthers at the time, and this is totally wrong both in the way they talk about some events and in the death of a councilwoman Marielle in which she appears and who was involved with factions and was killed for it, but in the documentary the editors did not they gave the impression that it was due to racism and there are several deaths because of it.
brother, you are a right wing radical speaking bullshits. The fact you said in brazil there is no racism like in US is such a big bad joke, I mean, you're making a fool of yourself. Just if he analyze the numbers and see how many black people are occupying the CEO position in enterprises in Brazil and compare it to USA (they have 12% of black people there, while we have around 60%) and they still have more black and colored people in higher position, then he would find out the size of the bullshit you're talking here. The marielle faction stuff, you're speaking those bullshits from Bolsonaro family, you're just a sick bastard, and I won't loose more time answering such a worm.
You wrote a lot of bullshit and also LIED about Marielle using well known fake news. I see the channel owner liked your comment. To keep things short this guy here is repeating what would be the equivalent of Trump supporters quoting qanon theories.
that song was write by a prisoner that survived the carandiru massacre and the Racionais made the music, that's why is so sentimental
História baseada em fatos reais!🔥
