- 2 PART VIDEO. HOW TO SING LIKE VIDEO ON CHRIS CORNELL AND J BON JOVI.
What I would like to get across in this video is only do what you can do at your stage in development. Start smaller not so big in other words don't try and sound like the artist right away. Get a clean map of how to sing it then add your style and rasp/distortion breathiness. This is in no way in place of a lesson. Its what I could squeeze in a video, in about 6 minutes.
Lesson number 1. Be born Chris Cornell.
This concludes our lessons on how to sing like Chris Cornell.
+BubbaZen10 thats a good comment.. But remember I'm just trying to help those that would like to learn.
daniel formica Dude, i'm just messin' with ya man. You have a lot of good tips. :)
daniel formica Awfully hard guy to imitate though, that's for sure.
For sure... so is anyone that isn't you.;) unless you are rich little
the fact is u CAN'T sing like chris cornell.
If somebody goes to sing Bruno Mars and it comes out like Dio then I would say that person has triumphed the art of singing.
Heavy RnB
I just love Chris Cornell's voice, so I've built an alarm clock to wake me up with random selections of his screams.
Chris Cornell Alarm Clock
"No one sings like you any more"
Chris Cornell had said in interviews that he wrote that line with John Lennon in mind; today, alas, it stands as his true epitaph.
ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY SING LIKE CHRIS CORNELL
Lmao, haha!! Comment inspired by LOTR?
thank you!!!
The great eye👁 is ever watchful...

idk this guy was pretty close.
This is Chris Cornell in his later years after years of early grunge belting.. His vocals are scarred, and tired and he was still world class until the end.
While you and others can reproduce his recent vocal range which I admit is fun and consoling and more importantly beautiful of anyone who wants to sound like him. His range in his early years was ridiculous and not many could reproduce it even nowadays...
Damn fine voice you have there Daniel, I’m jealous...
You have a great voice man. Awesome job.
thanks love your avatar!!!
lol why am i watching this? I can't even sing
Step 1: Grow his hair. :)
wow, the best thing about this video, unlike others is that the guys actually sounds good. now i have something to work towards. thanks Daniel.
Awesome. And awesome singing.
U got me sir "oh i was better than i was without thinking about it". SUBSCRIBED!
Alot of people fail to recognize just what kind of range Chris really has. You're going to have to be able to hit all the notes he can before you can even think about adding anything to the voice....and I've heard songs where he has spanned 3 octaves. Good luck.
Beyond The Wheel and Cold Bitch are inhumane for a baritone.
amazing step by step lesson.... great
Love your approach to breaking it down trying to get it in straight tone first that’s how I told myself too! And you are right you don’t get it at first. You keep trying a word by stanza then one day out of nowhere you can just do it and that’s when you can start adding what I call Colors to it
That was really awesome. You put into words the techniques I know but can't describe! A lot of Cornell's style is breath management, IMHO, and knowing when to "dig in" vs. "roll back".
I agree 100%
the way you sing in the mask which is my foundation after 10yrs of searching the mask helped me and i wanted to compliment you on the way you taught this lesson.
I smashed that like button just 2 minutes into this video before it even got to what I was looking for. (And the rest of the video was great too!) Well done! :)
I cannot stop watching this video over and over. You're a REALLY good coach. 👍
Manuel V. Thanks Manuel!!!
Very very good lesson.
Great voice. Great lesson.
Thanks a lot, Daniel! Specially for the time you spent on couching us! Cheers!
great video- love the vibrato in your voice!
Thanks coach now teach me a perfect round kick 😉
@@danielformica-yourvocalteacher I dunno if perfect is possible lol, completely subjective. send a video over of your technique if ya need some feedback!
@@thaiboxinginstitute I will do that for sure thanks
Watching your videos from Colombia, you rocks!. Nice way to start singing like Chris Cornell, i think one of the best (and hardest to mimic) voices of the rock's world. And you make a great performance !!.
thanks man appreciate that!!
You fuckin' rock man. Your voice is absolutely amazing. And I learnt something new too. Liked that tip on the crescendo, very interesting. Again, you kick ass, keep that up!
thanks man Im gonna do some more videos soon. Be sure to shoot me some idea on what you would like to learn and ill try to do a video for it.
very nice voice.
Thanks Daniel. You're very good.
Thanks Daniel. I'm a first and foremost a guitarist (playing 20 years), doing a bit of clean backing vocals... but as of today I've decided to try to up my game with a bit of vocal grit. It'll be interesting to see how far I can get in 6 months. Looking forward to checking out your other videos, cheers.
awesome man have fun and sing alot!
Excellent advice
Thanks Daniel. I have been trying for months to achieve CC's massive high notes. after watching this and trying it clean I can already hear a difference in the way I sing it. You have an awesome voice and a new sub. Rock on.
Chris....
No one sings like you anymore....
Great lesson!!!!!!!!!

Big help man, nailing them high notes....Getting pretty decent with Chris Cornell's music...Wich is awesome, because what a inspiration he has been on me!
Singing it again after watching the video made a big difference... I will practice what you told me thanks a lot!
this dude is cool. great approach to breaking down the vocals, unlike some other vocal tutorials I've seen on here. next song up, beyond the wheel. hehe ;)
I have taken a lesson with Daniel and he is great. I need to take some more lessons as I got a lot out of the lesson. Nice guy too.
thanks Daniel. it's obvious that you know what a you are talking about. it's very helpful for me . cheers
At 4:23 you actually sound a bit like my ex wife when the topic about alimony comes up again.
adudenamedDave lmao!
LOL...best comment!
Thanks for the giggles, Diddo, when asked hubby for Any money!!! LoL
Bahahahahahahahahahaha fuck
Mean....but awesome.
I learned something new. Thank for sharing some knowledge! Greetings
From a gramp with an amp, really good tips.
Thanks so much! I knew it was you...that is such a classic tune! I should have known! I play it on piano all the time! Thanks so much for the reply! 🎹
Part 2: how to have your hair like Chris Cornell
HAHA
Dude, you are awesome! Super talented! Thank you for sharing these videos, they have explained a lot that I have been trying to figure out on my own.
thank you dude!!!
YOur video helped me alot thank you soooooo much you're one rocking teacher
I'm glad I could help.Thanks
This is great man. Very well stated.
Cool thanks that was long time ago I hope I've changed a bunch I know my hair has. I was trying to grow it back couldn't get passed the awkward stage lol
very nice. ... 👍
You are very awesome man....
My weaknesses is vibrato, which you have. I got the distortion, I think. When you sing clean, it's not all in the throat, but to sing like Chris, a lot of head voice and muting with his mouth and teeth.
Nice, nice. Very nice !
right on brother! well done
thanks matt!!
vary good vlog two thumbs up johns vlogs
I'm working on my vocal now, your video is very inspiring for me) thanks you very much:)
you are very welcome!
You sing really good, I want to sing like Chris Cornell, do you think I need to learn the basics or go directly with this? I've already begun training the diaphragm breathing.
Consolous hey there building a strong foundation is key to singing this stuff. good luck let me know if you need help.
Great tips! Just got into singing some AIC so the high notes were giving me trouble, but it's a good idea to get the notes clean at first and then add the rasp. Cheers!
great video. You brought up things I've never heard before.very cool man.
You look like Daron Malakian from SOAD.
lol 😂
nice voice
well a couple ways to raise the palate do like a ngee yah or k before a vowel or even hold your nose and sing an ee into it all the sound in the nose then release to an ah and make all the sound go back towards the back of your head. hope that helps..
Nice video thanks
Awesomeness!!!
Wow brother, awesome vocal range... New subscriber.
Awesome thanks for subscribing I hope to make new vids soon..
Wow great voice sing t whole Chris song for us please 😮😢
Thank you here’s one from a live gig so it’s got mistakes but it’s a whole night of singing stuff like this th-cam.com/video/Y9kR_S_TdWQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2t42Lg5YmVLzPj9q
If you could, I'd really love to see a how to sing like Scott Weiland video. His vocal styles interest me, the way he could belt husky and deep but also sing very soft and high, almost like a whisper. Thanks man!
+Kevin Maund I do a couple tunes like Vasoline and Plush. He had his own sound for sure... rich warm vocal
Great video Daniel! This information is gold keep up the great work!
RIP Chris Cornell. Was only looking at your way to sing like Chris last week... and to think, now he's gone
Cris Cornell Lesson was f'n awesome :) thanx man dat was pretty cool :)
Hey Daniel, after playing guitar for 25 years I've only just discovered Richie Kotzen. As well as being an awesome player, this guy can seriously sing! His voice sounds a bit like Chris Cornell. Have you heard him?
Kotzen is a god!
I modeled my singing from his its not herd ,just takes time and constant refining
You naturally have a higher placement in your voice than the average male, that really relieves you from the effort of hitting the notes. I wish I had that.
no i just warm up every morning and get my placement high before i sing. if i don't I'm gravelly nyc italian voice no high placement.
Love the Tower of Power - So Very Hard To Go beginning
Thanks man I love Lenny Williams
Awesome
thank you!
yes it is different. i would write a book but everyone is different and needs to be taught a little diffently
great sounding voice bro..
3:10 easy for YOU to hit with your low tenor range. What about deep baritone range? Just sing every day and work on range for 3 years I guess.
I can help you with that hit me up
great range brother
thank you jetmould!!!
my fave!
Awesome transition friend, (clean to distort) great voice and lesson :D
thanks alot.. hugely appreciated
Hey Daniel, have you heard the stereophonics lead singer Kelly Jones? A unique raspy vocal style that I would love to hear a vocal teacher like yourself break down how he gets the sound he does like you do here with Chris Cornell! Thanks, Dave.
he is awesome i love that guy.
Thanks John very much appreciated!!
super tip. thx
INCRIVEL
Thanks man, very helpful video I liked it a lot...peace out
This video should be roughly 5 seconds long. "No one can sing like Chris Cornell, have a good day."
So Well Put.
I am 11 years old and I am a HUGE Audioslave fan and my favorite song is I am the highway this helped me sing that much better
wow 11 im proud of you keep it up you are gonna be amazing!!!
I been learning like a stone among this days... Chris died today, i was wondering how to get those pitches... and now i wanna do it better to make him a tribute thank you daniel
sad day
I can imitate voices pretty well but your advice to find the sound in it’s pure tone before adding distortion/effects made a lot of gears click into place for me.
Thanks My Dude!
glad I could help!!!
I just don't understand how to make the clean note not head voice sounding. I can sing "paaaaaaiiitentleeeyyy" just fine, but the second part of the word I have to alleviate some pressure to not strain, and then my voice suddenly is in head voice. There is no break, but it naturally wants to go there. I don't get how I can get that head voice very clean boyish sounding tone to sound like my chest voice, like you do here. I am not trying to distort, I just want to be able to sing like Dio, or Iron Maiden stuff! Avenged Sevenfold... but I keep running into the problem that in that range, if I push to try it with chest voice, I choke. If I let the pressure in my body alleviate on the way up, I hit the notes, but I sound like a boy. How do we make head voice sound bigger? I feel like my entire head voice range covers all I need, but I can't find a way to strengthen it to sound manly. I might have to get a lesson with you if you have available classes...
Great video brotha.
thanks james! i sent you a Facebook message
which version of like a stone is this? it doesn't sound like regular studio, sounds more like a live great quality recording.
Cool man, I'm a guitar player that has always wanted to make my singing better. Good analogies and explanations dude.
Awesome tips man thanks that helps a lot.! !
This is kinda a lot to ask, but would you be willing to make a short video on just you singing a bit of Nimrods Son by the pixies, and tips on how to do the scream at about :50 seconds? I'm a female vocalist who has only been singing for about a year, and I'm in a Pixies cover show in a couple months, but have no idea how to go about getting the same tone and raspiness to my voice as Frank Black. My voice is pretty clean toned. And yes I surely do plan to do your 15 minute free lesson thing as well! I'd appreciate the help so much. You are incredible!!
just skype me if you could and we could just go over it no problem. i would be glad to help..
Wow, thank you so much sir for these lessons! It never crossed my mind that I should to do it clean first before i make it dirty! That made so much senses and helped so much.
GOOD POINTS
You are awesome!
