I used to have a 2008 C90T. Loved that bike. No Harley guy ever confused it for a Harley though. Mostly they just got pissed that I wasn’t riding a Harley. My Harley buddies used to yell, “Suzukis in the back!”, when we rode then would thrash their bikes taking off from stops. When I traded out for the 2014 M109R BOSS they quit riding with me because they would start yelling and before the could finish saying Suzuki I was half way down the street and never waited for them to catch up. Man, I love that bike too.
Im still pissed they stopped making the irons and started selling electric brick bikes in a subsidiary company i think they shpuldve sold the 883 1200 48 and 72 all at the same time in a subsidiary and not sold.electric brick bikes at all
Kickstart, now that's real character. Fuel on, kick twice to prime, retard spark, ignition on, 1/8 throttle, choke or hit the tickler, aaaaand then try to kick it. Get any of it wrong and it might not work. 👌
I just bought a C50. While shopping it became clear that there are three different budget cruiser classes. bolt/883's, Vulcan 900/c50, and more recently the Vulcan s/Honda rebel class. I think they all serve different purposes and you'll know which on suits you. I got a c50 because it can comfortably carry me my wife and a bunch of stuff but doesn't cost 25k and is small enough and nimble enough for my wife to learn on.
I got the c50 as well. Originally wanted an 883 but too pricey. Then I wanted the Vulcan S after riding it but found it boring. Got my c50 for 2 grand and couldn’t be happier.
883 is around $10K out the door. XL1200 is around $11K out the door. With the 883 you have the option to go up to 1200cc or 1250cc for around $900 if you want to boost up the power and spend less than a new 1200cc on the floor. Can you up the CC's on most Japanese bikes with a KIT? NOPE! Not at all.
I own my Suzuki Boulevard C50 2017 for almost 5 years and never think to change it. Especially with 2022 gas prices! This bike is awesome in all aspects. I wish it has 6 gears instead of 5, that could reduce vibration a bit.
The Japanese really nailed user friendly bikes. Everything from the commuter to the racer. Harley Davidson is going the way of International Harvester. Legendary but forgotten
The younger chicks like bikes because they can be seen having fun and mom and dad hate it. Once they hit their mid to late 20's not so much. That's also about the time they stop wanting to go camping, hiking and to the gun range. There are exceptions of course but in general this is how it goes. Muscle cars are the same way.
You guys actually made the case for the metric cruiser without intending to do so. I have a Shadow 750 Spirit with a sleek looking back end and no windshield or other stuff. I am a Dad and I ride it to work... It's a sit back and roll down the road kind of ride which is what a lot of us old people look for. Best part, it did not require any expensive mods to get there! Love my Dad Bike!!!
The Shadow Spirit looks like a sportster knock off and doesn’t sound half as good as a stock iron 883. My iron is 100% stock and I don’t feel the need to modify anything about it. There are things I plan to change, just to make it mine. But, there is no NEED.
@@DesertMoPho I don't see how a shadow would be a knockoff of a sportster when Hoda made a way nicer bike for a fraction of the price. More of a one-up on harley, than a knockoff of harley. And if you have to pay 4k more for a better stock exhaust sound, I don't think you know much about good bikes. Honda just puts baffles on the end of their exhaust, and when removed, it sounds better than any harley I can think of.
Yamaha V star, Suzuki M109 Boss, ....even a Honda Gullwing,....all superior, faster, better handling, and quicker than any current production gas powered Harley Davidson.
I used to have a c50 and rode all the time with people on Harleys. The older ones couldn’t get out of their own way. The c50 was fuel injected and I rode with my wife 2 up all of the time. Great bike!!
It is a standard, I think it's just marketing that started all that "cruiser" business. The sportster is a sportier standard, but still it's just a regular motorcycle.
It is a standard with Mid Controls and standard height. It is a cruiser when it is the lower seat models with the forward controls. My XL1200CX is a standard. It sits high and has mids. My sister's 883 Low C is a cruiser as it sits really low and has far forward controls. My XL1200CX is very much like the XL1200XR with upside down forks, better rear shocks, good lean angle, and the engine seems a little more peppy compared to other 1200 Harleys in the stable.
Bought new an 04 Volusia the predecessor to the C50 but with carburator. Many 500 mile days and several 2k mile plus cross country trips. Bullet proof and does anything I ask of it without complaint. Still love the bike after 16 years.
i do get a laugh when people would rather look cool on a harley than having a better overall motorcycle , ill take functionality over looking good after all you're not f...king the bike you're riding it
Harley screems American tradition. If your bike is a everyday driver, functionality should be important. I enjoy cruising at 75 on my Harley (sportster). Also, I won my Harley at a raffle and had many opportunities to sell it for plenty of $. I choose to keep it and project the American way of life. 🇺🇸

And don’t even get me started on the Honda Fury, which by the way; does everything a Harley does right, and removes the flaws and is comfortable to ride while keeping that chopper styling. So, honestly there is no objective reason to buy a Harley unless you hangout with the kind of people that are impressed by that. In which case, get new friends.
Been riding for 40+ years including riding friends tricked out Harleys and I would never ever buy one. Maybe I don’t get that it’s a “lifestyle thing” but to me they are extremely overpriced for what you get. I also don’t want to buy a 15-25k bike that I have to add 5k in parts to make it good. At least if you buy a Harley and go to the store to buy some paint it will be well shaken up by the time you get home.
Who keeps their bike stock? Most people mod their bike no matter what it is. At least with Harley you aren’t locked into buying things from Harley. There are so many aftermarket options at multiple price points that is can be done at a price you’re happy with.
Anthony Taylor you’re comparing bikes built for completely different things. And, some other companies do have aftermarket parts available. But sportsters in particular have been around basically unchanged for so long, there are just ennnndless options for them.
Anthony Taylor if he’s comparing a cruiser to a sport bike then his opinion is irrelevant. So, I answered assuming he wasn’t trying to compare apples to oranges. In the cruiser market, they are not over priced. I did a whole video of it and plotted out the cruisers for basically every major manufacturer. The idea that harleys are more expensive is overblown. As for expensive for what you get; there is only so much you can add to a motorcycle and pay Americans a decent wage. My Harley came with everything I wanted and none of the BS I didn’t want. It’s a simple machine. Just like I want it to be, and just like what many people who buy harleys want.
@@DesertMoPho That argument MIGHT hold water (and I stress might, because I really doubt it) in the new market. But on the used market, forget about it. You can get a used metric cruiser for almost half what you can get a comparable used harley for.

So after 7 minutes into the video, it's readily apparent that the Suzuki is light years more advanced and refined, and better in every single way, for only $4300 used on Craigslist. Harley people obviously have never driven a Japanese bike. Or if they have, they just don't appreciate engineering and the actual riding experience. Going on a long drive on a bike that has severe vibration is futile.
A closer comparison would have been a M50 than the C50. M50 is a lot more aggressive looking and closer to the sportster. Ditch the sissy and windscreen and even the C50 looks cooler.
For solo summer use, my C50 stripped down to just the single seat with the big rear fender looks pretty nice, and it feels great to be in the wind. However, it's normally in all-weather grocery-getter mode for two: windscreen, passenger seat and pegs, passenger backrest, saddle bags, and additional backrest bag over the rear fender: aka dad bike.
Indeed. Either the old Marauder or the newer fuel injected version that replaced it, Boulevard M50/Intruder VZ800, would have been more accurate comparison.
I’m an ex bike mechanic and have ridden nearly every bike ever made. There’s a reason a Harley is called a steel horse. They really do seem to have their own personality that you have to adapt to. And honestly, there’s no suspension upgrade that will change that. A lot of it has to do with the geometry and the single pin crank set up. That’s exactly the lure of a Harley.
Could it be that Harley is way behind in innovation than the Japanese? I don't know a lot about motorcycles, buy my general impression, sadly, is that there's always some doubt about the quality (especially how dependable they are over the years) of an American company. Like comparing Honda to Chevy.
Good video, thanks guys!!! I've had a 2005 M50 Boulevard. It weighs 540lbs, 3" risers, Vance and Hines Twin Slashed Black pipes. This bike is still fun to ride, with a smooth ride.
Good comparison video guys. I think the M50 might have been a better comparison bike though, .. but would really tilt the field in the direction of the Suzuki. They still look big, but man they look mean!!! (In my own humble opinion)

Yeah it boils down to the fact that they really just don't care about cruiser bikes so I don't think they meant this to be a real comparison video. I can tell you from my experience that the Harley is by far a better option though. They are built to last, especially the sportsters with that EVO engine. Remember built to last does not mean never needs repairs but they are made to run forever with minimal work done and they are just so good looking.
DigitalMotorhead I don’t know about EVO engines but I had an AMF sportster that I bought new. I think I pushed it as much as I road it. That was enough to swear off Harleys for life.

@@digitalmotorhead5323 I would always choose a Japanese bike over a European or American one. I've had plenty of bikes and 95% of the problems I had, were with the American/European ones. That doesn't mean they bad, but I had way more luck with my Japanese bikes. If I would be looking for something like the Iron, I would probably get a Yamaha Bolt or something similar.
I would like to see him on a Harley Davidson Street Glide, Road Glide, Kawasaki vulcan vaquero, Honda Goldwing, Yamaha star eluder, or something that actually is high end, then lets see him complain about lack of features, or ride quality
I had a 2005 roadking custom, I just sold it 3 days ago. Yesterday I bought a 2006 c50. The c50 actually feels better on the freeway over the roadking. Even at 95mph the c50 was more stable
I have a buddy that has a c50 and it legit looks like a Harley bagger with a batwing fairing and hard bags and stuff and it looks badass. I feel like it all depends on what you make it when it comes to motorcycles and the work you put into it to make it your own.
I always liked the Suzuki C50. Big bike comfort with a smaller bike price tag (and performance.) Get a Suzuki S40! The absolute best beginner bike ever. So, so simple, low maintenance and cheap fun.
Would have been nice to see the sportster compared against the M50 Boulevard. I had an M50 with V&H pipes and a dynajet tuner and it was an super fun bike.
If you want a sport bike you’ll hate a Harley. If you want a bike that looks and sounds cool bike stock and is a total analog experience you’ll enjoy a Harley.

Harleys are trash in the right way though. It's hard to explain really, but harleys have this wonderful theater about them. I like sports bikes but got an XR1200 and its hilariously fun. It rumbles and shakes like crazy, the engine thumps and burps, the overrun pops and cracks and frightens old people, gassing on in the tunnel makes the ground vibrate. When you twist the throttle the engine roars, the revs climb, and you get kicked in the ass from torque but you dont really go anywhere. It falls into the it's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow, and riding a harley fast is like watching the room. It's a damn good hilarious time. Riding my ZX6R through mountain passes behind a truck is not as much fun.
This guy keeps dissin' on cruisers. Well there are those of us (mostly older types lol) who don't consider speed to be the end all of riding. Its fast enuff to blow off any traffic may need it and thats good enough. BTW my favorite bikes are Suzuki VL1500LC and Yammie VStar 1100. Both carburated cuz us older guys are used to them and distrust the electronic wizardry. No shops for us!
I have a 1994 Suzuki Intruder 1400 I prefer carburetor over fuel injection any day an I'm only 32 but I was raised on Old School if i can't work on it I don't won't it
@Bun Bun That's because your riding a computer. It's interesting to know that manufacturers put all those gadgets not because of "safety", but because they know most riders are handicapped (lack of riding skills) to fully operate their machines. And they're right. By the way, H-Ds do brake, just they're not sport bikes, so both brakes need to be applied, with more assistance of the rear one. Not all bikes operate the same (weight, geometry, etc).
@@omarsalgado9715 I love cruisers, and will have my shadow 1100 forever. BUT my vfr800 still stops, goes and turns, better than any stock cruiser in the world. My point is, if you like cruisers that's cool, I do too. But they're really not objectively better in any way at all. They're just a different riding experience. Oh, and my vfr has no ABS or traction control.
Cruisers just take "form over function" and "style over substance" to a completely different level than what you'll get on any other sort of bike. Retro bikes are very popular these days though, and Harley really was arguably the first to do it with models like the Heritage Edition Electra Glide (as in a consciously retro design rather than just not updating their technology, which plenty of companies have done). Unfortunately for them that means if they try and make any other sort of bike it won't be considered a "real Harley", so the company will probably die off with that same generation of customers they've always been serving.
My 04 C50 is my first bike and the weight doesn't feel that bad. If touring and commuting are two things you have in mind it really is a great machine.
This video was everything I have wanted out of this channel for years. Thank you!!!! A few things from a cruiser boi. First off, cops are not riding boulevards, doing the slow speed tight turns. They mostly ride Harley road kings and Electra glides, at least In the US. But just like with the Ford interceptor for police cars, Harley makes a separate version of the road king and Electra glide, special for cops and their needs. those big Harley 114’s are much more powerful, heavier, and more badass bikes! And now that you’re starting to warmup to cruisers, THOSE should be next on your list! I have a feeling you would love the new 2020 Harley road king special edition. Such a gorgeous bike. Also try the Kawasaki Vulcan s 650 and the Yamaha raider! Great bikes :)
I had a Suzuki VL 800 Intruder as my first bike, I think that is a lot more comparable to the Sportster 883 in size, build style, weight, etc ($2100 was much cheaper though so great for a first bike)
On a long trip you want a windscreen. Handyman Tip of the Day: Plexi cuts easy....trim to suit. I never like the height of the stock shield on my RSV, chop, chop....now it is perfect. It is tough to cruise at 90 with no screen.
Never have I seen so many videos dedicated towards trying to legitimize Harley’s undeserved place in the motorcycle world when there are so many better options
I have a ‘17 iron 883 and putting 13” shocks in back completely changes the bike. It’s quicker on turn in. You’re not taking a sucker punch to the arse when hitting a pothole. It’s a completely different bike.
Traded in the 750 Virago on a C50T about 2 months ago. Love it. Admittedly the Virago was old and not real cool, but almost every day I'm out on the C50 I get two of three people tell me what a nice bike it is. I did take the windshield off though which changes a lot.
The C50 is called Volusia here in Europe. It is my first bike and I love it. It feels like driving a Couch and yet you can drive through traffic. Just need the confidence driving that heavy baby. Best thing it starts immediately after winter break. If you can get one, go for it.
@@ertskupertsku9192 the only bike i ever rode with ABS scared the shit out of me, i didnt know it had abs, and it started doing its thing when i braked a bit harder than i needed. I dont like abs on a bike at all
On a harley I'd like rear brake ABS due to how wet they are during braking. Even my XR1200 has pretty shit brakes compared to most other bikes I've ridden.

I had a C50 as my first real street bike (that wasn’t a dual sport). I got rid of it and bought a cb650f because I wanted something a bit more sporty to commute and to hit the mountain roads. While I had the c50 I made fun of it and so did my wife. Now, about 6 months later, we both miss the big fat slow Suzuki! It was cheap fun for sure. 13,000 miles and only $3200!
The M50 is a better comparison and the Bully has superior technology along with Jixxer engineering. My buddy has a Sportster and Dyna and they spend more time in the shop than on the road.
I had a C90 for a year. It was smooth, not that heavy to handle and comfy but was hard to pass a low power car and was terrible above 80 MPH. My legs were catching both cold and humidity as they are facing the wind. Also dud not like the foot board as they were meant for a 7 foot guy. I now ride an M109R, everything is better. It feels heavier but the riding position is WAY better. The forward pegs and stretched legs is more comfy and less cold for the legs. Power and handling is awesome, less engine heat due to isolated fuel tank and liquid cool. Handle bar is way better handling. Love the M109R, way more than any harley.

I like how sport bike riders act like 600 pounds is a lot... Touring bikes are 800lbs+ and are very maneuverable, very comfortable, and have lots of power.

I have a 2015 Suzuki Boulevard C50T which I chose it over a Harley. I love how it handles and I can ride forever when I do my road trips! I'm a Suzuki Boulevard C50T big fan for life!
I'm on a 2002 Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800, predecessor to the Boulevard C50. In fact, it's pretty much the same bike with a different name. It still rides like a dream
I have a 07 HERITAGE not for any speed but for the occasional 20 mile ride to work and weekend rides with the wife ! Love the balanced engine no vibration!
I never owned a Harley, but I did own a Yahama V Star 1300, so I am biased towards the metric cruisers. All I had to do as far as maintenance on my V Star 1300 was a valve adjustment, replace tires, battery, and do oil changes. That's it in the seven years I owned it. The only benefit I could see to owning a Harley of a similar size is the resale value. Japanese cruisers do not retain value at all, but for the value of the bike, I definitely got my money's worth.
Take the windshield off the C50 and drag the floor boards that will put a smile on your face. Over a number of years have had two C50T and one I had them leave the windshield off, the second one though I would try it with it on, lasted about two days and took it off. Will be picking my third C50T up next week, getting the wind shield, but as soon as it warms up a bit will be taking in off, it is so easy to take on and off, so will keep it for the cold rainy days. Gave my second one to my sun, and the first thing he wanted the windshield put on but then he lives up in Newfoundland, where they get very short summers and lots of rain. Those little things on the floorboards that let you know when you are going to scrape the floorboards, will ware down when you hit the twist roads hard. The C50 T is a great bike to hit the twisty roads.
You guys ever tried a Moto Guzzi V9 (bobber or roamer) ? It would be interesting to get your take on what is often referred to as the European Harley...
My first bike was a 2005 C50. It was a great motorcycle. I put forward controls on it, a lowering kit, cut some foam out of the old man seat and reupholstered it, Vance and Hine pipes, a K&N filter and customized the blue sparkle paint job with some pinstripes and it would run all day with much larger carbuerated Harley davidson motorcycles all day. It may not of had much personality in the handling or speed department but it was a great motorcycle to learn on and I got it a year old brand new dirt cheap.
I’ve recently inherited my dads Yamaha XVS650 dragstar and I love it. 100% love it, though my usual bike is a Kawasaki Z750 I’ll always take the dragstar if I’ve got some spare time to chill on my journey!
I own a cbr300r, vstrom 1000, and a suzuki volusia 800 wich is a c50 before it was called c50. The volusia is my go to commuter bike. It is faster than the cbr300r and more comfortable. The vstrom is most comfortable and way faster than both. But I do love the volusia it is fun to ride. I love the way the shaft drive makes it stand up gives it a souped up car feel. I would recommend all three bikes.
I have had a c90 for the past four or five years and really enjoy it. Not the fastest, not the prettiest but a solid all around bike that you can ride for pennies. Change the oil in the spring and put some tires on it every three or four years . And the windshield comes off in five minutes. My only knock is that it needs an overdrive.

Oh yeah smaller is better for real world riding.. split traffic no problems.. rev max no problem ain't going nowhere..I had gold wings. crotch rockets.and current ly kawasaki concours but I have more fun with 300 ninja..just to be different there are alot of fairing kits from china to be different .check out dh gate..
I used to own a C50. It looks huge, but is actually fairly nimble. Was a good cruiser (and great value), but it had two issues; it needed taller gearing as riding 45-55 around town had you in a constant dance of trying to find the right gear, with neither 3rd or 4th being ideal, and it really could use a 6th gear for 70+ highway cruising. Other than that, it was solid as can be and was totally bulletproof. Due to their bargain basement price point (got mine with 5k miles on it for $2,700.00) in the used market, I would rate the C50 as an excellent beginner bike. I wasn't a beginner, but I was just getting back into motorcycles after a long hiatus and wanted to break back in on something that could take a beating. Also of note, if you are a larger rider, you won't look ridiculous on the C50 like you will on a Sportster. Not exactly a "measurable" metric, but it does bear mentioning.
It's heavy, but the center of gravity is pretty low so it is very nimble I have one, first bike and I was comfortable enough to drag the floor boards after 2-3 days. You're right about it needing another gear though, on the highway it does feel stressed if you want to cruise above 70. I really want to try a c109 and see how that feels
@@miumh11825 If it's not for you, alright. Coming from a 650 Suzuki Cafe racer to HD. Best decision I've ever made. I don't think the Sportster is the better bike. But it's more fun to me. And you get an old engine with new features and that's what's all about. People want that Evo working like that. The bolt is definitely inspired by the iron 100%
My first motorcycle was a Suzuki VZ 800 from 2003. my wife has a Spoorster 883 Superlow from 2006. I loved my VZ800, it was 90 lbs lighter than H&D and was a lot easier to maneuver with. I have ridden on hers but the shock absorbers were too hard. Could feel a banana trash on the road. My VZ800 was low and wide like i loved it, but it was not the fastest. Bought a Yamaha 950 Bolt in March 2020, it is better in all aspects and looks super cool. Finally, after 13 years, the wife allowed me to put some softer shock absorbers on the back, new sports air filter. And now she loves her 883 again. Women do not always listen to their husband's good advice and acknowledge his knowledge on some points. Love the show. From Summertime Denmark :-)
It's a dumb question. It's like asking if a $25 Timex quartz is better than an manual wind Omega Speedmaster Professional because it keeps better time. That's not why people buy high end watches and it's not why people buy more expensive yet poorer performing Harleys.
I think the C50 is a cool bike in its own way. They basically say “it’s a good bike but it’s for nerds” and I think that’s a bit unfair. Sure, the sporty has its own unique style but the C50 is probably more of a care free bike to give you less issues
Mid controls are perfect on the 883. Gives you more confidence in the corners than forwards. Also if you live in the UK like me with terrible roads, it's massively helpful to be able to lift yourself out the seat when you see a last minute pot hole!
I rode harleys first, then crotch rockets, then metric cruisers -- Metric bikes.. they start when you hit the button.. carb or FI, and you only work on them when you want to, not before you want to ride. Sorry Spite -- gimme a big fat kawasaki EVERYDAY over a harley ... ya'll need to ride a 1700 nomad .. it's a sport touring cruiser..
Big boulevard (vl800) guy here.. after almost 10000 miles on my Suzuki.. I’d take Suzuki over a 883 any day of the week.. my next bike will probably be a m109r because I refuse to be a Harley MAN
I have a 2018 V-Star 650 Custom. Significantly smaller engine, but very comparable on paper to the Zuke. 514lbs, 40hp, 38ft/lb stock. With a Cobra slash cut exhaust, it loud, proud, and wild. Looks wise, it's a blend between a 'classic' cruiser and more modern designs with a great mix of chrome, matte black, and gloss black accent work. It has plenty of power in the hills if you're willing to work the gears, and will hit 140km/h without begging. To me it hits a lot more boxes than most of the 800 class. Smooth ride, power when I want it, great sound (with the exhaust change. Before it sounded like an angry sewing machine), the narrower profile front tyre lets it turn in sharply...overall, just pure joy to ride. I honestly would prefer it over any of the bigger cruisers for anything except rides of several thousand km.
I have a Intruder Volusia 800 and have been riding it for 12 years. It kinda fell in my lap. 5 years old, 678 miles for 4,200 dollars. I ride almost year round and it gets cold here. It drove great in warm weather, but in the low 40's I had to ride it with the choke half on or it coughed and spit the whole time. I added some slip ons and a jet kit and fixed the problem. That engine really came to life. I don't know what the hp jumped to but WOW. I could take off hard and feel the front tire in second gear pick up and bump back on the pavement. A VS1400 final drive is in the works. I like the brakes on it, in panic mode the are very forgiving. They will lock up, but you have to be serious about it. In short, you guys can have the Sportster. I'll take the comfort over vibrations. Insurance is cheaper too.
I had a Honda VT750 and all the rough edges had been ironed out, that said a great bike, so reliable, comfortable and easy to handle wish I had not sold it, it was perfect, maybe at first this is a turn off but after a while it was great to live with.
Bought a new 86 883 sporty hugger model. I absolutely loved the bike.. rode it all over the place. Fast and comfortable. Don't know how I'd like it now 20+ years later. Not so young now but it really was a great bike. I have other HD Softails and Dressers now as well as a C50 Boulevard and honestly at my age, lighter is better. I appreciate the handling of the Suzuki.
I just bought a 2020 Vulcan 900 Classic, which is the same level as the C50. I was stuck between both the C50 and the Vulcan. Both were comfortable, but the Vulcan had a tad more space than the C50 fo me. However, a guy I worked with during my time in the Air Force has an M50 with 250k miles. They are so well built.
I owned a 2008 C50 Boulevard. Pros: - looked good, red with white paintjob - runs on 87 octane - shaft drive - comfortable - fuel injected - liquid cooled w/ a radiator fan that worked well in traffic Cons: - heavy, so much so that a fresh clutch will still slip if you try to accelerate too hard - no tach (alot of cruisers don't, but it's still a con to me) - only 5 (very short for a road bike) gears - floorboards will scrape on any meaningful curving - low power, incredibly boring ride I got rid of it for a 2016 BMW F800GT and I haven't looked back. Just not my kind of bike.
Taking a cruiser bike review from Yammie Noob is like ordering steak at a pasta restaurant. What you get will be disappointing, no matter what. And just listen to the conclusions: the Suzuki Boulevard is boring because... it's too perfect; it completely lacks character because... it's absolutely comfortable; it's lame because... it feels completely at home on the road. But the Sportser is cool because it vibrates, because you never feel perfectly at ease on it and because you never know if you'll actually reach your destination. I have both and I can't wait to get rid of the Sportster. Maybe because I'm a dad and the Boulevard is a dad's bike.
Im 21 and love my c50t dad bike. As a guy who likes to ride daily and use a bike for things such as grocery shopping or taking my girl around the dad bike is just the way to go. And i know alot of people talk about the highway ride being uncomfortable but its honestly not bad

I used to have a 2008 C90T. Loved that bike. No Harley guy ever confused it for a Harley though. Mostly they just got pissed that I wasn’t riding a Harley. My Harley buddies used to yell, “Suzukis in the back!”, when we rode then would thrash their bikes taking off from stops. When I traded out for the 2014 M109R BOSS they quit riding with me because they would start yelling and before the could finish saying Suzuki I was half way down the street and never waited for them to catch up. Man, I love that bike too.

I just bought a C50. While shopping it became clear that there are three different budget cruiser classes. bolt/883's, Vulcan 900/c50, and more recently the Vulcan s/Honda rebel class. I think they all serve different purposes and you'll know which on suits you. I got a c50 because it can comfortably carry me my wife and a bunch of stuff but doesn't cost 25k and is small enough and nimble enough for my wife to learn on.
The HD price tag isn't that high. Softail starts at 13k.
I got the c50 as well. Originally wanted an 883 but too pricey. Then I wanted the Vulcan S after riding it but found it boring. Got my c50 for 2 grand and couldn’t be happier.

883 is around $10K out the door. XL1200 is around $11K out the door. With the 883 you have the option to go up to 1200cc or 1250cc for around $900 if you want to boost up the power and spend less than a new 1200cc on the floor. Can you up the CC's on most Japanese bikes with a KIT? NOPE! Not at all.

I own my Suzuki Boulevard C50 2017 for almost 5 years and never think to change it. Especially with 2022 gas prices! This bike is awesome in all aspects. I wish it has 6 gears instead of 5, that could reduce vibration a bit.

That's also about the time they stop wanting to go camping, hiking and to the gun range. There are exceptions of course but in general this is how it goes. Muscle cars are the same way.

You guys actually made the case for the metric cruiser without intending to do so. I have a Shadow 750 Spirit with a sleek looking back end and no windshield or other stuff. I am a Dad and I ride it to work... It's a sit back and roll down the road kind of ride which is what a lot of us old people look for. Best part, it did not require any expensive mods to get there! Love my Dad Bike!!!

The Shadow Spirit looks like a sportster knock off and doesn’t sound half as good as a stock iron 883. My iron is 100% stock and I don’t feel the need to modify anything about it. There are things I plan to change, just to make it mine. But, there is no NEED.
Metric cruisers are superior. They are smooth, somewhat quick, and extremely reliable.

Honda just puts baffles on the end of their exhaust, and when removed, it sounds better than any harley I can think of.

I used to have a c50 and rode all the time with people on Harleys. The older ones couldn’t get out of their own way. The c50 was fuel injected and I rode with my wife 2 up all of the time. Great bike!!

It is a standard, I think it's just marketing that started all that "cruiser" business. The sportster is a sportier standard, but still it's just a regular motorcycle.
It is a standard with Mid Controls and standard height. It is a cruiser when it is the lower seat models with the forward controls. My XL1200CX is a standard. It sits high and has mids. My sister's 883 Low C is a cruiser as it sits really low and has far forward controls. My XL1200CX is very much like the XL1200XR with upside down forks, better rear shocks, good lean angle, and the engine seems a little more peppy compared to other 1200 Harleys in the stable.
Bought new an 04 Volusia the predecessor to the C50 but with carburator. Many 500 mile days and several 2k mile plus cross country trips. Bullet proof and does anything I ask of it without complaint. Still love the bike after 16 years.

Been riding for 40+ years including riding friends tricked out Harleys and I would never ever buy one. Maybe I don’t get that it’s a “lifestyle thing” but to me they are extremely overpriced for what you get. I also don’t want to buy a 15-25k bike that I have to add 5k in parts to make it good. At least if you buy a Harley and go to the store to buy some paint it will be well shaken up by the time you get home.
Who keeps their bike stock? Most people mod their bike no matter what it is. At least with Harley you aren’t locked into buying things from Harley. There are so many aftermarket options at multiple price points that is can be done at a price you’re happy with.

In the cruiser market, they are not over priced. I did a whole video of it and plotted out the cruisers for basically every major manufacturer. The idea that harleys are more expensive is overblown. As for expensive for what you get; there is only so much you can add to a motorcycle and pay Americans a decent wage. My Harley came with everything I wanted and none of the BS I didn’t want. It’s a simple machine. Just like I want it to be, and just like what many people who buy harleys want.

So after 7 minutes into the video, it's readily apparent that the Suzuki is light years more advanced and refined, and better in every single way, for only $4300 used on Craigslist. Harley people obviously have never driven a Japanese bike. Or if they have, they just don't appreciate engineering and the actual riding experience. Going on a long drive on a bike that has severe vibration is futile.
A closer comparison would have been a M50 than the C50. M50 is a lot more aggressive looking and closer to the sportster.
Ditch the sissy and windscreen and even the C50 looks cooler.
Suzuki Intruder vs 800
For solo summer use, my C50 stripped down to just the single seat with the big rear fender looks pretty nice, and it feels great to be in the wind.
However, it's normally in all-weather grocery-getter mode for two: windscreen, passenger seat and pegs, passenger backrest, saddle bags, and additional backrest bag over the rear fender: aka dad bike.
Actually the VL800 have the closest specs of the sportster. I own a VL800 for 4 years now and I love that bike.

I thought the same thing when this video started, the M50 is much closer to the same specs all around; 590 lbs, 53 HP, etc.
I’m an ex bike mechanic and have ridden nearly every bike ever made. There’s a reason a Harley is called a steel horse. They really do seem to have their own personality that you have to adapt to. And honestly, there’s no suspension upgrade that will change that. A lot of it has to do with the geometry and the single pin crank set up. That’s exactly the lure of a Harley.
Could it be that Harley is way behind in innovation than the Japanese? I don't know a lot about motorcycles, buy my general impression, sadly, is that there's always some doubt about the quality (especially how dependable they are over the years) of an American company. Like comparing Honda to Chevy.

Yeah it boils down to the fact that they really just don't care about cruiser bikes so I don't think they meant this to be a real comparison video. I can tell you from my experience that the Harley is by far a better option though. They are built to last, especially the sportsters with that EVO engine. Remember built to last does not mean never needs repairs but they are made to run forever with minimal work done and they are just so good looking.
DigitalMotorhead I don’t know about EVO engines but I had an AMF sportster that I bought new. I think I pushed it as much as I road it. That was enough to swear off Harleys for life.

@@digitalmotorhead5323 I would always choose a Japanese bike over a European or American one. I've had plenty of bikes and 95% of the problems I had, were with the American/European ones. That doesn't mean they bad, but I had way more luck with my Japanese bikes. If I would be looking for something like the Iron, I would probably get a Yamaha Bolt or something similar.

I had a 2005 roadking custom, I just sold it 3 days ago. Yesterday I bought a 2006 c50. The c50 actually feels better on the freeway over the roadking. Even at 95mph the c50 was more stable
I have a buddy that has a c50 and it legit looks like a Harley bagger with a batwing fairing and hard bags and stuff and it looks badass. I feel like it all depends on what you make it when it comes to motorcycles and the work you put into it to make it your own.
I always liked the Suzuki C50. Big bike comfort with a smaller bike price tag (and performance.) Get a Suzuki S40! The absolute best beginner bike ever. So, so simple, low maintenance and cheap fun.
Would have been nice to see the sportster compared against the M50 Boulevard. I had an M50 with V&H pipes and a dynajet tuner and it was an super fun bike.

Harleys are trash in the right way though. It's hard to explain really, but harleys have this wonderful theater about them. I like sports bikes but got an XR1200 and its hilariously fun. It rumbles and shakes like crazy, the engine thumps and burps, the overrun pops and cracks and frightens old people, gassing on in the tunnel makes the ground vibrate. When you twist the throttle the engine roars, the revs climb, and you get kicked in the ass from torque but you dont really go anywhere.
It falls into the it's better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow, and riding a harley fast is like watching the room. It's a damn good hilarious time. Riding my ZX6R through mountain passes behind a truck is not as much fun.
This guy keeps dissin' on cruisers. Well there are those of us (mostly older types lol) who don't consider speed to be the end all of riding. Its fast enuff to blow off any traffic may need it and thats good enough. BTW my favorite bikes are Suzuki VL1500LC and Yammie VStar 1100. Both carburated cuz us older guys are used to them and distrust the electronic wizardry. No shops for us!

@Bun Bun That's because your riding a computer. It's interesting to know that manufacturers put all those gadgets not because of "safety", but because they know most riders are handicapped (lack of riding skills) to fully operate their machines. And they're right.
By the way, H-Ds do brake, just they're not sport bikes, so both brakes need to be applied, with more assistance of the rear one. Not all bikes operate the same (weight, geometry, etc).

Cruisers just take "form over function" and "style over substance" to a completely different level than what you'll get on any other sort of bike. Retro bikes are very popular these days though, and Harley really was arguably the first to do it with models like the Heritage Edition Electra Glide (as in a consciously retro design rather than just not updating their technology, which plenty of companies have done). Unfortunately for them that means if they try and make any other sort of bike it won't be considered a "real Harley", so the company will probably die off with that same generation of customers they've always been serving.
You should ride a Harley Street Glide or Road glide. I think people would love to see your reaction and thoughts!
The boulevard is a camry with less wheels. Makes for a good commuter that can take a fun weekend trip every once in a while too.

My 04 C50 is my first bike and the weight doesn't feel that bad. If touring and commuting are two things you have in mind it really is a great machine.
They're super cheap used, and hold that Value pretty well. You might outgrow it in a year or so but I have no regrets. Super comfy.
If you're just crusier touring the c50 is the perfect entry lvl bike, having a hard time between a c50 and a new klr 650
This video was everything I have wanted out of this channel for years. Thank you!!!! A few things from a cruiser boi. First off, cops are not riding boulevards, doing the slow speed tight turns. They mostly ride Harley road kings and Electra glides, at least In the US. But just like with the Ford interceptor for police cars, Harley makes a separate version of the road king and Electra glide, special for cops and their needs. those big Harley 114’s are much more powerful, heavier, and more badass bikes! And now that you’re starting to warmup to cruisers, THOSE should be next on your list! I have a feeling you would love the new 2020 Harley road king special edition. Such a gorgeous bike.

I had a Suzuki VL 800 Intruder as my first bike, I think that is a lot more comparable to the Sportster 883 in size, build style, weight, etc ($2100 was much cheaper though so great for a first bike)
On a long trip you want a windscreen. Handyman Tip of the Day: Plexi cuts easy....trim to suit. I never like the height of the stock shield on my RSV, chop, chop....now it is perfect. It is tough to cruise at 90 with no screen.

I have a ‘17 iron 883 and putting 13” shocks in back completely changes the bike. It’s quicker on turn in. You’re not taking a sucker punch to the arse when hitting a pothole. It’s a completely different bike.
My uncle's boulevard 50 had the smoothest shifting transmission I have ever felt. Just clicked into the gears without any force.

Traded in the 750 Virago on a C50T about 2 months ago. Love it. Admittedly the Virago was old and not real cool, but almost every day I'm out on the C50 I get two of three people tell me what a nice bike it is. I did take the windshield off though which changes a lot.

It is my first bike and I love it. It feels like driving a Couch and yet you can drive through traffic. Just need the confidence driving that heavy baby.

On a harley I'd like rear brake ABS due to how wet they are during braking. Even my XR1200 has pretty shit brakes compared to most other bikes I've ridden.

I had a C50 as my first real street bike (that wasn’t a dual sport). I got rid of it and bought a cb650f because I wanted something a bit more sporty to commute and to hit the mountain roads. While I had the c50 I made fun of it and so did my wife. Now, about 6 months later, we both miss the big fat slow Suzuki! It was cheap fun for sure. 13,000 miles and only $3200!
Never heard some one complain about perfection before.
The M50 is a better comparison and the Bully has superior technology along with Jixxer engineering. My buddy has a Sportster and Dyna and they spend more time in the shop than on the road.

I had a C90 for a year. It was smooth, not that heavy to handle and comfy but was hard to pass a low power car and was terrible above 80 MPH. My legs were catching both cold and humidity as they are facing the wind. Also dud not like the foot board as they were meant for a 7 foot guy. I now ride an M109R, everything is better. It feels heavier but the riding position is WAY better. The forward pegs and stretched legs is more comfy and less cold for the legs. Power and handling is awesome, less engine heat due to isolated fuel tank and liquid cool. Handle bar is way better handling. Love the M109R, way more than any harley.

For newbies, the C50 is affordable, comfortable, low maintenance ...I absolutely love my 2019 C50.
I like how sport bike riders act like 600 pounds is a lot... Touring bikes are 800lbs+ and are very maneuverable, very comfortable, and have lots of power.

I have a C50 in my garage my son rides and he loves it. Keeps up with my 08 Yamaha Venture easily. Best is we can put in a days ride and we both enjoy ourselves. Folks who own a C50 love em.

I have a 2015 Suzuki Boulevard C50T which I chose it over a Harley. I love how it handles and I can ride forever when I do my road trips! I'm a Suzuki Boulevard C50T big fan for life!
Those arent big bikes, but they are very decent and boulevards last forever.
Have you looked at the Suzuki VL? Its a japanese Fat Boy. The Fat Boy is an Electra Glide without the fairing.
I'm on a 2002 Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800, predecessor to the Boulevard C50. In fact, it's pretty much the same bike with a different name. It still rides like a dream

I never owned a Harley, but I did own a Yahama V Star 1300, so I am biased towards the metric cruisers. All I had to do as far as maintenance on my V Star 1300 was a valve adjustment, replace tires, battery, and do oil changes. That's it in the seven years I owned it. The only benefit I could see to owning a Harley of a similar size is the resale value. Japanese cruisers do not retain value at all, but for the value of the bike, I definitely got my money's worth.

Take the windshield off the C50 and drag the floor boards that will put a smile on your face. Over a number of years have had two C50T and one I had them leave the windshield off, the second one though I would try it with it on, lasted about two days and took it off. Will be picking my third C50T up next week, getting the wind shield, but as soon as it warms up a bit will be taking in off, it is so easy to take on and off, so will keep it for the cold rainy days. Gave my second one to my sun, and the first thing he wanted the windshield put on but then he lives up in Newfoundland, where they get very short summers and lots of rain. Those little things on the floorboards that let you know when you are going to scrape the floorboards, will ware down when you hit the twist roads hard. The C50 T is a great bike to hit the twisty roads.

My first bike was a 2005 C50. It was a great motorcycle. I put forward controls on it, a lowering kit, cut some foam out of the old man seat and reupholstered it, Vance and Hine pipes, a K&N filter and customized the blue sparkle paint job with some pinstripes and it would run all day with much larger carbuerated Harley davidson motorcycles all day. It may not of had much personality in the handling or speed department but it was a great motorcycle to learn on and I got it a year old brand new dirt cheap.
I love love love my c50. I'm 5'11" and the forwards kind of feel a little mid. Maybe I just have long legs, idk.
I’ve recently inherited my dads Yamaha XVS650 dragstar and I love it. 100% love it, though my usual bike is a Kawasaki Z750 I’ll always take the dragstar if I’ve got some spare time to chill on my journey!
I own a cbr300r, vstrom 1000, and a suzuki volusia 800 wich is a c50 before it was called c50. The volusia is my go to commuter bike. It is faster than the cbr300r and more comfortable. The vstrom is most comfortable and way faster than both. But I do love the volusia it is fun to ride. I love the way the shaft drive makes it stand up gives it a souped up car feel. I would recommend all three bikes.

I have had a c90 for the past four or five years and really enjoy it. Not the fastest, not the prettiest but a solid all around bike that you can ride for pennies. Change the oil in the spring and put some tires on it every three or four years . And the windshield comes off in five minutes. My only knock is that it needs an overdrive.
Definitely not the fastest. I have trouble keeping up with minivans on that thing. It's an absolute pig on the highway.

Oh yeah smaller is better for real world riding.. split traffic no problems.. rev max no problem ain't going nowhere..I had gold wings. crotch rockets.and current ly kawasaki concours but I have more fun with 300 ninja..just to be different there are alot of fairing kits from china to be different .check out dh gate..
I used to own a C50. It looks huge, but is actually fairly nimble. Was a good cruiser (and great value), but it had two issues; it needed taller gearing as riding 45-55 around town had you in a constant dance of trying to find the right gear, with neither 3rd or 4th being ideal, and it really could use a 6th gear for 70+ highway cruising. Other than that, it was solid as can be and was totally bulletproof. Due to their bargain basement price point (got mine with 5k miles on it for $2,700.00) in the used market, I would rate the C50 as an excellent beginner bike. I wasn't a beginner, but I was just getting back into motorcycles after a long hiatus and wanted to break back in on something that could take a beating. Also of note, if you are a larger rider, you won't look ridiculous on the C50 like you will on a Sportster. Not exactly a "measurable" metric, but it does bear mentioning.
It's heavy, but the center of gravity is pretty low so it is very nimble I have one, first bike and I was comfortable enough to drag the floor boards after 2-3 days.
You're right about it needing another gear though, on the highway it does feel stressed if you want to cruise above 70. I really want to try a c109 and see how that feels

@@miumh11825 If it's not for you, alright. Coming from a 650 Suzuki Cafe racer to HD. Best decision I've ever made. I don't think the Sportster is the better bike. But it's more fun to me. And you get an old engine with new features and that's what's all about. People want that Evo working like that.

My first motorcycle was a Suzuki VZ 800 from 2003. my wife has a Spoorster 883 Superlow from 2006.
I loved my VZ800, it was 90 lbs lighter than H&D and was a lot easier to maneuver with.
I have ridden on hers but the shock absorbers were too hard. Could feel a banana trash on the road. My VZ800 was low and wide like i loved it, but it was not the fastest.
Bought a Yamaha 950 Bolt in March 2020, it is better in all aspects and looks super cool.
Finally, after 13 years, the wife allowed me to put some softer shock absorbers on the back, new sports air filter. And now she loves her 883 again. Women do not always listen to their husband's good advice and acknowledge his knowledge on some points.

It's a dumb question. It's like asking if a $25 Timex quartz is better than an manual wind Omega Speedmaster Professional because it keeps better time. That's not why people buy high end watches and it's not why people buy more expensive yet poorer performing Harleys.

I think the C50 is a cool bike in its own way. They basically say “it’s a good bike but it’s for nerds” and I think that’s a bit unfair. Sure, the sporty has its own unique style but the C50 is probably more of a care free bike to give you less issues
Mid controls are perfect on the 883. Gives you more confidence in the corners than forwards. Also if you live in the UK like me with terrible roads, it's massively helpful to be able to lift yourself out the seat when you see a last minute pot hole!
Considering how Yammie isn't a "cruiser guy", I think you both did a fairly good job of comparing and reviewing! 😎
there are reasons why metric cruisers don't have after market support .... they don't NEED it
I rode harleys first, then crotch rockets, then metric cruisers -- Metric bikes.. they start when you hit the button.. carb or FI, and you only work on them when you want to, not before you want to ride. Sorry Spite -- gimme a big fat kawasaki EVERYDAY over a harley ... ya'll need to ride a 1700 nomad .. it's a sport touring cruiser..

Big boulevard (vl800) guy here.. after almost 10000 miles on my Suzuki.. I’d take Suzuki over a 883 any day of the week.. my next bike will probably be a m109r because I refuse to be a Harley MAN
I have a 2018 V-Star 650 Custom. Significantly smaller engine, but very comparable on paper to the Zuke. 514lbs, 40hp, 38ft/lb stock. With a Cobra slash cut exhaust, it loud, proud, and wild. Looks wise, it's a blend between a 'classic' cruiser and more modern designs with a great mix of chrome, matte black, and gloss black accent work. It has plenty of power in the hills if you're willing to work the gears, and will hit 140km/h without begging. To me it hits a lot more boxes than most of the 800 class. Smooth ride, power when I want it, great sound (with the exhaust change. Before it sounded like an angry sewing machine), the narrower profile front tyre lets it turn in sharply...overall, just pure joy to ride. I honestly would prefer it over any of the bigger cruisers for anything except rides of several thousand km.
I have a Intruder Volusia 800 and have been riding it for 12 years. It kinda fell in my lap. 5 years old, 678 miles for 4,200 dollars. I ride almost year round and it gets cold here. It drove great in warm weather, but in the low 40's I had to ride it with the choke half on or it coughed and spit the whole time. I added some slip ons and a jet kit and fixed the problem. That engine really came to life. I don't know what the hp jumped to but WOW. I could take off hard and feel the front tire in second gear pick up and bump back on the pavement. A VS1400 final drive is in the works. I like the brakes on it, in panic mode the are very forgiving. They will lock up, but you have to be serious about it. In short, you guys can have the Sportster. I'll take the comfort over vibrations. Insurance is cheaper too.
I had a Honda VT750 and all the rough edges had been ironed out, that said a great bike, so reliable, comfortable and easy to handle wish I had not sold it, it was perfect, maybe at first this is a turn off but after a while it was great to live with.
My 2007 S50 reminds me of a Sportster style-wise. It has 50hp and 45ftlb torque at only 443 lbs. Its decently quick, I'm sure quicker than the Harley.
Bought a new 86 883 sporty hugger model. I absolutely loved the bike.. rode it all over the place. Fast and comfortable. Don't know how I'd like it now 20+ years later. Not so young now but it really was a great bike. I have other HD Softails and Dressers now as well as a C50 Boulevard and honestly at my age, lighter is better. I appreciate the handling of the Suzuki.

I just bought a 2020 Vulcan 900 Classic, which is the same level as the C50. I was stuck between both the C50 and the Vulcan. Both were comfortable, but the Vulcan had a tad more space than the C50 fo me. However, a guy I worked with during my time in the Air Force has an M50 with 250k miles. They are so well built.

I have an older VZ800 Marauder (same 805 engine but carbs) and it walks all over the 883's. It also only weighs 430lbs.
Mid controls are for standing on those pegs. believe me, in pothole invested streets. that's what you want.

I owned a 2008 C50 Boulevard.
Pros:
- looked good, red with white paintjob
- runs on 87 octane
- shaft drive
- comfortable
- fuel injected
- liquid cooled w/ a radiator fan that worked well in traffic
Cons:
- heavy, so much so that a fresh clutch will still slip if you try to accelerate too hard
- no tach (alot of cruisers don't, but it's still a con to me)
- only 5 (very short for a road bike) gears
- floorboards will scrape on any meaningful curving
- low power, incredibly boring ride
I got rid of it for a 2016 BMW F800GT and I haven't looked back. Just not my kind of bike.
Taking a cruiser bike review from Yammie Noob is like ordering steak at a pasta restaurant. What you get will be disappointing, no matter what. And just listen to the conclusions: the Suzuki Boulevard is boring because... it's too perfect; it completely lacks character because... it's absolutely comfortable; it's lame because... it feels completely at home on the road. But the Sportser is cool because it vibrates, because you never feel perfectly at ease on it and because you never know if you'll actually reach your destination. I have both and I can't wait to get rid of the Sportster. Maybe because I'm a dad and the Boulevard is a dad's bike.

Im 21 and love my c50t dad bike. As a guy who likes to ride daily and use a bike for things such as grocery shopping or taking my girl around the dad bike is just the way to go. And i know alot of people talk about the highway ride being uncomfortable but its honestly not bad
