- Investigations are continuing into the circumstances that led to the tragic passing of five children in Soweto, Gauteng, this past weekend, with one child still in hospital under intensive care.
It is alleged they consumed poisonous food bought from a local spaza shop.
This incident has yet again raised concerns and renewed calls for the enforcement of food safety compliance and businesses adhering to the city by-laws.
For more on this, we are joined virtually by Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, City of Joburg's MMC for Public Safety.

I am so sorry the parents who losted their children. I am sending condolences.
SPAZA SHOPS TO BE FOR SOUTH AFRICANS. NON-NEGOTIABLE
So the previous poison deaths meant nothing?
Yes and he will also move a further few blocks away and continue selling
I always find it amazing after these innocent little souls were taken by snacks .Instead the foreign shop owners were told to pack up and go instead of removing them and lock the shop for investigation. He is long gone integrated into another community These politicians absolutely have no clue. All they probably talk about all day is party politics and tenders .They really lost track of
Eff sought top protect these foreigners that's why he is quick to close them all down now. He knows further investigation into all of these shops will bring up non compliance.
Please close all these spazas. Pur kids are dying. We never used to have them growing up and spazas were owned by South Africans and we never had a person dying because of that food consumption.
My people please stop buying from them. Please
So this shop owner might have killed more than these children with his poisonous food, we need a commission of enquiry like we had for the for victims of the fire in hijacked buildings. Why even think of giving someone like that documents. He should be jailed for causing the deaths of all those children, if its found goods come from his store. He connects all those children..
SA must opening there owne shops final
We need a permanent inspector for every suburb, there are problems everywhere
But these inspectors will rather take bribes than doing their work
izinja lama Politicians, always statement no action, and go back to their comfortable homes buy whoolworh foods while communities are forced by these politician to sty with these foreigners....COMMUNITY SHOULD TAKE THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS TO PROTECT THEIR KIDS
SA genoeg is genoeg stand up
Go and see in other countries if South Africans do business in their residential areas, but they want to get it right here.let Stand together against this spaza shops.they avoid buying SA products
Yes they do
They buy from our chain stores and bulk stores i watch were people buy

They are all over villages and townships. 😢😢
That's a great idea. Close casual spaza shops & unprofessional taverns & shebeens. They cause too many illnesses and problems.
That's the problem of south Africans you don't solve a problem from the roots it's not the spaza shops it's the food industry that produces those products
Exactly. They scratch the surface and move on. They are scared of the people the trail will lead them to @@sidneysosala245
The spaza shops continue to sell these products beyond their expiry date. And you can't tell me you haven't come across videos of illegals manufacturing fake products in dirty environments or repackaging expired food. Illegals must go.@sidneysosala245
We just need all of these foreigners to leave so that we can solve our problems on our own. Our country was fine before they arrived
@@sidneysosala245they manufacture their own products
ANC being reactive now. Lesufi should have been pro active and not allowed spaza shops to flourish.action after the event is only for publicity for the dormant leaders
Apparently he said he is a humanitarian
Lesufi is useless and he was even when he was an MEC of Education.
😮Lapho bafuna beze ngapha abahambe bo oMalema noRamaphosa bayahlanya ngoba kunjenanje I ibona abafuna bangene la SA
South Africans need to unite against illegal foreigners spaza shop. We understand that other home owners are benefiting in terms of rental but we cannot compromise our childrens lifes because of money.
Ethiopian "with no papers". What does that suppose mean?
And what's the "certificate of acceptance"?
This is totally crazy.
This EFF guy is now eating a humble pie with his open door policy. I wish he was the one who've eaten the poison.
focus on the suppliers not retailers (suppliers are white people )
The way this spaza shops owners disrespect sa they will open it again tomorrow trust me
The fact is the go pick up in the waste sections Pick ‘n Pay and woolworth and sell it
Is tiger brand still operating?
We cannot prove it is the Spasa Shops. Very sad for the families of these children.Unfortunatly the cost of living are so high that the poor depend on Spaza Shops.
Uma uthi akuna proof usho ukuthini
The problem of South African they will demand to open the shops after this incident nizobona seba toyi toy bethi akuvulwe ama shop 😢🤞
That's not the only reason why people are dumb nowadays.
They close the spaza shop in Soweto and go open in Tembisa and some they go to other provinces. Those spaza shop owners definitely are not legal in the country and they don't comply, what makes them not be arrested like restaurant owners and their employees????
1. Eat or 2. drink?
Stop hoping and do your job
Yihlazo leli sekungathi kuyaqala Kanti kukaningi silahlekelwa imiphefumulo kodwa lutho , akukho zinyathelo ezithathwayo ukuvimba lezingozi
They cant and shebeens also cant do it for themselves i think each street must have a member that goes for training and represent the community interest in food and safety
Question did they paid 5 million for a business visa?if not why do you allow unlawful business practices?in my opinion the government needs to be sued for this cause they are the allowing illegal immigrants to do as they please in our country.
Those who sell spazza shop they just stock 2 the wholesale and those owers of wholesale they stock 2 the company
Uthini uMàlema ngalokhu njenoba defender ana foreigners ukuthi ahambe?
But the lewot the shop
Who loot the shop?
Ther are lying
Who is lying?
U must give the Ethiopians id buz the give fro madele when is in Ethiopia posport
