I'm a technician and I see you guys are like me😂 Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Most of these manufacturers have no solution for these problems and the technicians have to figure it out. Great job guys 👏

Great video! I have a BI36U and have a similar problem with the drain tube freezing. SubZero tells me the issue is likely that water has leaked into the insulation around the drain tube causing water to freeze in it and that the fridge is not repairable. It's sadly only 12 years old and I'll be very disappointed if I have to replace an otherwise perfectly functioning unit.
Any thoughts on whether a similar procedure as shown in your video might be an option for my situation?

Hey - I have same fridge with the same issue. Did you figure out how to resolve it? I called them they suggested cleaning the tube with bleach and detergent and if they didn’t work to call a technician to install a heating coil.

@@TH-camPremium-jo8szYes, I performed a similar procedure as in the video. The drain tube on the BI36U is at the back of the unit though so I cut it open back there. There was a lot of wet insulation. Mine wasn't due to a split drain tube though. I think water was getting in some other way. I cut all the wet insulation away, dried things up and filled it back in with spray foam. I then added some additional silicone inside the fridge around spots where I thought the water may have leaked in initially. The fridge has been working fine ever since. It was quite an effort but I'm happy I did it.
I thought the BI36U came stock with the heating coil but I do recall there were some upgrades after the fact that SubZero provided free of charge. I'd definitely recommend having a technician look at it first and only do this surgery as a last resort. The company I used was able to get SubZero cover the service call cost because they couldn't find the fault. This is what lead them to tell me I needed to replace the unit as it was unfixable.

Fridge is still working in customers home, saved them 12k instead of replacing unit, other companies ran away. It’s a last resort, a pain in the ass, risky, could possibly lose some insulation quality, but it does work. Been doing it for 15 years this way and rarely get call backs.
