Thank you for visually recreating everything I had to make up in my head playing with these toys as a kid. You are truly THE BEST toy reviewer on TH-cam.
The 80s is the undisputed all time champion of toyline producing decades! By a longshot! I'm so lucky to have grown up in the 80s. Kids from other decades just don't have any idea how fun it was to be a kid during those years.
I love that this review isn't just a review, but you actually play with it and make fun. Plus, special effects! You really captured what it was like to play with this as a kid.
The firehouse roof also worked well as the final staging area between Shredder and the Turtles, improvise. Janine her action figure would sometimes double for April and she had a thing going with James Bond Jr. Lol
Yep. Just take off the Ghostbusters sign, and that firehouse building could go with a lot of other toy lines. I used it for Batman, TMNT, and even the A-Team lol
I loved this toy, and the Ghostbusters line in general. I remember being fascinated with the detachable railings, the overall feel and scale of the building, the fireman's pole, but most of all I enjoyed sliming people. I don't remember doing any cleaning up though, I wonder if my mother did that....I think I reused the slime a bit. I had Ecto-1 too, a great toy, and slimer was satisfying to play with as well.
I'm thirteen, but I've loved ghostbusters since I was 3. And one Christmas I was given a roomful of Ghostbusters toys, and I distinctly remember asking my mom to cut up some rags to make beds, she even got me some toy couches and TVs, man so much potential that playset had.
I just found my Firehouse Playset in my parent's attic this past weekend. They are remodeling the house and converting the attic into a 3rd bathroom...so out go my old toys. The toys were stored in the attic by my parents. I didn't know or care where my toys went when I grew up but I do remember using the firehouse, the slime, and the Ecto-1. I have located both the firehouse and acc as well as the Ecto-1. I was going into first grade when Season 2 of the cartoon series came out. I acquired the Firehouse sometime in 1987. I remember being extra exited to come home from school to watch the cartoon more than playing with the toys though. The Mr. Sandman episodes and some of the other episodes (the one where the spirits /white apparitions of the ghostbusters, evil in all its nature) scared me big time 😆! I still remember the cartoon! Thanks for the upload. Now to restore all my old ghostbusters toys I found.
So fun, AGAIN! Warm all over indeed. You really know how to play with toys..and edit videos. You continue to outdo yourself. We loved this one. Crazy to think how your videos can touch so many lives and help create new fans.
Dad got me this from a thrift store when I was a kid. It was just the building, nothing extra like the doors or fire pole, but it still one of my absolute favorite toys as a kid. Watching this video gave me a ton of nostalgia.
This is pure gold. Thanks for showing off your wonderfull toy collection, and in such a entertaining way to boot. You make me remember many fond memories.
I'd be so tempted to have sleepovers and do a high GI JOE TMNT etc etc battle, but the price and rarity of some of those guys now makes it so difficult to have fun!!! Wonder if Michael Mercy has spares he plays with so he doesn't feel so bad about beating them up (like in the scenes he creates for the videos).
I gotta say the genuine love and passion you put into your videos has actually got me interested in toy lines I never really gave much attention to. Your work is top notch Michael and honestly has eclipsed a lot of the other channels I follow for toy reviews. Keep it up! NERDMASTE!!
Got this as a surprise for Christmas back in 87. Loved it, never dared to pour the slime through the roof though. Also cut the streams off the figures' wands so I could hang them on the packs muzzle down.
Awesome video man. I was thoroughly entertained. I'm a huge Ghostbusters and real Ghostbusters fan. I've been collecting Ghostbusters memorabilia for years. I've really wanted to get my hands on the firehouse but they go for around 500 with the box and that's pretty steep.
Thats gotta be one of the top 5 best collections of 80’s toys ever...AWESOME......i was 7 years old in 87..85 thru 87 had some ridiculously awesome toy lines and cartoons.. COPS, SILVERHAWKS, CENTURIONS, MASK...The list goes on....
I had this when it came out in those ghostbusters craze days but as soon as the goop was shown slowly dripping down I instantly remember the feel of it on the fingers when cleaning it up and the smell of it that filled the room as soon as the air hit it, such a sweet but bitter smell. Well done and thanks for the memories!
Wonderful video! I love how you always keep the focus on the playful aspect of the toys, and leave the business elements of collecting in the periphery. Videos like this one and your Toys in the Wild series really capture the magic of playing with toys like these as a child. I shared your US Flagg video on Facebook today, so hopefully it sends a few friends your way. Your videos are such high quality that I know your viewership will continue to grow with time!
Thank you! It's an element I see missing in most 'toy reviews.' They're often so dry and analytical, missing the point of why we fell in love with them in the first place. Thanks for sharing the Flagg video!
This is an amazing video. Simply amazing. Captures that special feeling of playing with your toys and making up your own stories and adventures. Wonderful!
I love customizing playsets to either fit my fan fiction or show or film accuracy, so those little details added on the set shown on the video are perfect :)
My brother and I got the Firehouse for Christmas one year. It was SOOOO awesome. And our dog (less than a year old at the time) was small enough to walk through the garage doors.
So for some reason my church bought one of these for our kids to play with. I got the pleasure of putting it together. I just bought one on eBay today for my son who’s getting the remaster figures that hasbro just released
I LOVED my firehouse, got the very last one at Kmart as it was being discontinued, the stickers were missing and Kenner was nice enough to send me out a replacement set for free! After many, many playtimes with ghostbusters, I eventually made this my UNEEDA warehouse playset for "Return of the Living Dead", using what figures I could as zombies as the Ghostbusters and GI Joe defended themselves inside.
I used to play with this house EVERY day.... ugh... i had the house, the helicopter, ecto one and the yellow monster car and almost all of the characters, never had the football buy.... geez... and if the Ghostbusters weren't occupying it was house to my GI Joe's.... I made beds, guard posts on the roof a meeting place in the "garage" and gates.... and a perimeter around where my GI JOE'S patrolled the area to shoot anything that...ugh... the wars we fought.... it was the best time of my life.... this was SO much better then video games....
really enjoyed the review I had to Ghostbusters Firehouse mine's not in the best shape anymore my story I used it for all my characters GI Joe Marvel heroes DC superheroes Ninja Turtles everything Crossover with Ghostbusters lights in comics are now thank you again Michael Mercy really enjoyed it please keep them coming
Glad you enjoyed it! Firehouse would have been an awesome playset to have in the 80's, the scale isn't too far off from GI Joe. Maybe it could have been the Extensive Enterprises building for the Crimson Twins. :D
Heh...let me tell you somethin'...Bustin' still makes me feel good!!! Bit of a late comment this time I'm afraid, but I just had to express my fond appreciation for what might very well be your best video this side of the Optimus Prime one, yes? I was a HUGE Real Ghostbusters fan growing up - the cartoon was very popular here in the UK, and I had a toy Proton Pack and everything!!! Winston Zeddemore was my favourite back then, as I recall, since it seemed that he was the one who most often got to drive the coolest fictional car of the '80s that didn't transform, i.e., Ecto-One; nowadays, though, I'm more of a Peter Venkman fan due to his delicious sarcastic wit, but I still love 'em all regardless, yes? Above all, the cartoon showed that there was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the four guys in particular; who weren't presented as near-flawless superheroes, but as regular - if somewhat quirky! - working stiffs with a VERY weird job, whose odd/terrifying demands they coped with through large dollops of humour; an aspect which also came across very well in the Real Ghostbusters Marvel UK comic spin-off, which may indeed have almost overdone the humour at times to my taste, but which was still only matched by its Transformers counterpart in terms of both its popularity and its longevity back in the day, and deservedly so in my eyes! (if you're interested, you can get some more info on said comic at www.honcho-sfx.com/blog/remembering-marvel-uks-the-real-ghostbusters-comic/, the-oink-blog.blogspot.com/2015/06/beyond-oink-2-real-ghostbusters.html, the-slipper.blogspot.com/2016/07/ghostbusters-comics-this-doesnt-usually.html, with a sample of what was usually the best bit of the comic - i.e., Spengler's Spirit Guide - also available at 4.bp.blogspot.com/-a8bZk3AmJSE/VYsPsl647NI/AAAAAAAADbY/rctZf4oqUF8/s1600/RGB-Guide.jpg - enjoy, yes?). By the way, I noticed in your reply to another comment below that you weren't really interested in the new Ectotron Transformers/Ghostbusters crossover figure, and that's fair enough, but is there any chance at all that you might do a video on either the new Diamond Select Real Ghostbusters figures and/or a retro review of the original '80s Ecto-One toy as seen in this video, please? In the meantime, should you or anyone else be interested in Ghostbusting as a future career choice, here's some handy hints from Irish Ghostbuster Des O'Gorman at th-cam.com/video/79T-HLDQN_I/w-d-xo.html - until then, here's a heartily spooky Nerdmaste for ya once again...!!! (Just be careful that you don't cross the streams, OK...?!).
I wanted this so badly. I made a firehouse of my own out of a big box and put levels in it like the real thing. It wasn’t very good because i was about 5. Got the real thing for Christmas. That ecto plazm slime has a smell of its own, like playdoh. Magic
"Tobins Spirit Guide" Is maybe one of the big reasons I loved Ghostbusters. As a kid growing up in Ireland seeing my favourite cartoon use a lot of Irish mythology and heritage was just so cool. Tobin is a very common name in Ireland also.
Honestly my biggest memory of the firehouse is having to clean up the slime ooze afterwards and finding crusty "slime boogers" weeks and months afterwards... Still would like to find some of that slime again, I'd like to see if it has that same chemical smell.
Now if Ghostbusters and Transformers had done a crossover in the comic books or in cartoon form, nice touch on how you mixed the cartoon with the animation you done with the toy's. Think I know a spot up the road that has some of the old Ghostbusters figures an what's left of a Ecto - 1 car, not sure if the dude has gotten the Firehouse or not but he does have a good number of the old school Masers of the Universe figures with Castle Greyskull an Snake Mountain in the store as well as She - Ra firgures an castle of Power. All most wish that they had done a bit more with the Lego Ghostbusters, don't get me wrong the 2 Ecto - One car builds for the 1980's an 2016 sets are pretty cool an never seen the Lego Firehouse HQ in stores around here to pick up that all so looked pretty cool.
I have the lego Ghostbusters tower and it was one of the longest and most relaxing builds of my life. While not completely to scale, it does give a lot more detail to each floor. Plus for fifty bucks on Amazon.com you can get a lighting kit that I plan to get somewhere down the line!
My father got me this for Christmas the year it came out. Has a "Jingle all the way" story about fighting through hordes of parents to get to the Ghostbusters stuff only to find out that they were in a different spot. He managed to get there and get the last one. Not only was the place like 3 towns over so 80+ miles but he said he was offered over $500 for it before he had even bought it and paid for it by a couple people. I still remember opening it that Christmas and freaking out. Of course I broke the firepole within a week like an idiot
I feel bad, I used to have that as a kid. Now I'm a 15 year old toy collector and when I found my old, cracked, faded and broken 80s ghost busters car I cried
Never really had any of the GB myself, but had a spoiled friend who had this playset (along with many of the other figurines for the set). It's size at the time was definitely big. I had a hand-me-down toyset base (I think it was from Centurions or something else, but it had a holographic guy on one of the walls). Pretty big castle but not nearly as big as the GB one. I think I also had the Batman mansion/batcave playset that was pretty cool. The garage door on that was crap too. Lmao. Great job on the video, hits me right in the feels! Edit: Also, I appreciated playsets like this, because you're right. This playset works with using other toylines fairly well as far as a hideout or whatever have you. Combining the toys/props was hella cool.
I used to place the house in the shower and use my mothers shampoo as an alternative for slime. It was easier to clean up and the handful of times I did this surprisingly the stickers never washed off. the outside brick stickers on the corners are a little loose but that was as far as it got.
First time here. I was looking to see if the Firehouse I just bought had all its parts. My god dude, what a collection! Amazing work with the effects , fantastic video 😀👍
I got the firehouse for Christmas 1987, but it always bugged me that Ecto-1 didn't fit right in it. If they had only made the firehouse just a little deeper, it would have been perfect. Either way, it was in my top favorite play sets along with Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain. I ended up giving 99% of my childhood toys to my ungrateful cousin in the mid-90s, including the firehouse, and I regret it horribly to this day.
That was brilliant 😂 I have 2 fire houses in my attic, one still has everything including containment unit & trap, pole & the original box, the other is just the house, but both sets of doors are intact,. I also have ecto 1, it had turned a horrible yellow colour, so I stripped it all down & re sprayed the white body with straight to plastic paint & ordered replacement stickers, it came out brilliant, I just need a couple of figures to stand with it ( also found a slimer in with the stuff)
I had this set as a kid and I loved it. Thing is I will admit I was bummed when first I got it that it came with so few accessories. The playset basically just came with the containment unit and trap and like 2 small ghosts.
I really love how you used all the accessories from Spider-Man: Movie toys. I would always use the firehouse as a base or apt for other figures (mainly Spidey). I also love how you use accessories from other toys, always did that with mine. Love the video, brought back a lot of memories!!
at around 3 minutes in you showed ray with a figure sized ghost trap. i have never seen that accessory and was wondering which figure or vehicle it came with.
I own this same fire house with everything besides the slide. I always thought it was awesome! Sadly my sign broke when I placed it up so I had to tape it together for the time 😅

I loved the movies as a kid but there was something about the Ghostbusters cartoon that was pure magic. It's probably my favorite cartoon of all time. I own it in the firehouse set on DVD, plus it's on Netflix so I watch it all the time.
The writing on it is great, at least the first season which is what I've recently rewatched. The tone and dry humour is very similar to the first movie.
Seeing these videos makes me regret giving all my ghostbuster toys to my little cousin. I do remember being 5 or 6 & having major a panic because I got my fingers jammed in the grates. 😂😂
Thank you for visually recreating everything I had to make up in my head playing with these toys as a kid. You are truly THE BEST toy reviewer on TH-cam.

I agree. 1980s toys are the best ever. No other decade even comes close.
Playing with this thing gave me hours of enjoyment.

It really warms my heart the memories you share with toys dude

The ghosterbuster toy line was just epic.
Yeah super fun to play with. Love those proton streams. :D

Haha, thanks. The special effects certainly help bring my inner child's imagination to life. :D
I still have mine from the 80s and my niece and nephew love it. Thank you Kenner Toys for the awesome memories

God bless him. Glad it brought back fond memories.
So excited I found your channel. All us mid '40s grown ups are literally reliving our childhoods with you man. AWESOME
Thanks Dean, glad you're enjoying the videos. Happy New Year!
@@MichaelMercy you too!!!
This is pure gold. Thanks for showing off your wonderfull toy collection, and in such a entertaining way to boot. You make me remember many fond memories.
Thanks! :D
I had this as a kid and the car! I'm so mad I don't have it anymore. Brought back memories.
Can I come over to play already?
Seriously though, you should do toy room tours
Yes
I'd be so tempted to have sleepovers and do a high GI JOE TMNT etc etc battle, but the price and rarity of some of those guys now makes it so difficult to have fun!!! Wonder if Michael Mercy has spares he plays with so he doesn't feel so bad about beating them up (like in the scenes he creates for the videos).

This review was incredible!! I am looking for a firehouse myself at the moment for my collection and these were amazing tips to dress it up nice 🤘🏻
this might be the best video i have seen to date! thx for the memories....
I loved pushing the slime through the grills when I was younger I always remember the smell.
Great to see Egon holding the Necronomicon, lol!!!
I have one too when I was a kid
Thanks Luewana for the great suggestion. And another great review Michael. Never had any Ghostbuster toys but I want some now.
Thanks! Luckily Real Ghostbusters toys haven't shot up in value as much as most of the other 80's toy lines...yet! :D
I used to place the house in the shower and use my mothers shampoo as an alternative for slime. It was easier to clean up and the handful of times I did this surprisingly the stickers never washed off. the outside brick stickers on the corners are a little loose but that was as far as it got.
I'm nearly 45 years old and I can still remember the smell of that slime.
Would’ve given ANYTHING to have that as a kid, but mommy always said it was too expensive. :-( Still looks AMAZING 30 years later. :-)
Hope you can track one down, better late than never! :D
First time here. I was looking to see if the Firehouse I just bought had all its parts. My god dude, what a collection! Amazing work with the effects , fantastic video 😀👍
80’s magic! No better words. Thank you for vid. I had ecto1 and 4 busters but no fire house so thank you 🙏
Thanks Phil! Glad you enjoyed. Nerdmasté! 🙏
This was the holy grail of my toys. 2nd was my ecto 1. Both of which I still have. 😁
Man, much Thxs to your wife😁 this was just awesome👍
Thanks!
I still have my Ghostbusters firehouse. Still in good shape too. Actually it might even still be in great shape.
I only owned two figures from this toyline. But my parents did buy me the turtle van from TMNT!
Oh man I want to sit and eat cereal and watch Ghostbusters again
Love the post-editing.
What is a good brand of slime as replacement or stand in for the original slime
i cant believe this vid has 2k views only. it should be 18k!!. its awesome!
Thanks! I just posted it on Sunday though. Give it time. :D
Love the 80s toys...had some as a kid...my neighbor had most of these og ghostbusters
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Happy New Year.
Still have this one, with the car, ecto 2, the monster bug, all figurines and monsters. Damn wonder what it is worth...
I had this set as a kid and I loved it. Thing is I will admit I was bummed when first I got it that it came with so few accessories. The playset basically just came with the containment unit and trap and like 2 small ghosts.
Awesome Review. Made my day.
Your collection is amazing, great video!
Thanks Chris!
I used to have this, an awesome play set! Great video :-)
awesome video, love the level of detail. Especially since I've always want this since I was a kid
Thanks! Certainly was a lot of detail to appreciate in toys of the 80's.
I really love how you used all the accessories from Spider-Man: Movie toys. I would always use the firehouse as a base or apt for other figures (mainly Spidey). I also love how you use accessories from other toys, always did that with mine. Love the video, brought back a lot of memories!!
Thanks!
at around 3 minutes in you showed ray with a figure sized ghost trap. i have never seen that accessory and was wondering which figure or vehicle it came with.
The greatest toy of all time one of my holy grails to get back thank you for this video . Your wife has great taste
Haha thanks. :D
I own this same fire house with everything besides the slide. I always thought it was awesome! Sadly my sign broke when I placed it up so I had to tape it together for the time 😅
That 80's magic indeed. Thanks!
Thank you! 🙏
This was great 👍
that was a great toy

I loved the movies as a kid but there was something about the Ghostbusters cartoon that was pure magic. It's probably my favorite cartoon of all time. I own it in the firehouse set on DVD, plus it's on Netflix so I watch it all the time.
The writing on it is great, at least the first season which is what I've recently rewatched. The tone and dry humour is very similar to the first movie.
I still have my firehouse, Ecto 1 drove away though.
Guess they got a call. :D
Seeing these videos makes me regret giving all my ghostbuster toys to my little cousin. I do remember being 5 or 6 & having major a panic because I got my fingers jammed in the grates. 😂😂
