It's fascinating to me, how Twitch literally wastes money of advertisers in million different ways. For example. For months now, Twitch is showing me ads in languages I don't understand and for regions I don't live in. Originally, I got mostly ads in English language. Sometimes, the ads were for something I could actually buy. Fair enough. Then I noticed that while traveling to Germany, it played ads in German language. Mind you, I was still on the same account, with Twitch interface in my native language and not watching any livestream in German language... ever. And now, it plays ads in random language even when I'm home. Yesterday, I got an ad in French. I don't even know what the ad was for. Last time I traveled to France and used Twitch there was a year ago. If I was advertiser, I wouldn't touch Twitch. Apparently, Twitch might show my Czech ads to good people of Mongolia.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if twitch starts encouraging ppl to do vod uploads ands start pointing the targeted advertisers there and then serve those up on the home landing page.
7:00 as somebody IN the space I don't think you represent the advertisers or what the sentiment might be (as much as I wish it was the case). The people at the heads of these companies don't/won't have the same understanding that ad placement =/= endorsement, especially because a lot of traditional media IS endorsement.
I will say personally, I watch Twitch pretty irregularly, but there's been adverts I've wanted to actually interact with, but there is physically no interaction on Twitch like there is on TH-cam. If I click on a youtube ad, I'm brought to that company's website, or there's a button I can press to go there. On Twitch? Nothing like that. You have to go look up the brand instead, which is sometimes quite troublesome with some of the ads ON twitch, because they just DONT BOTHER PUTTING THEIR LOGO ON THEIR ADS.
That's one problem and the other is that the streamers very often leave the ads in the control of the automation system and as a result the viewers will see ads at a different times while the streamer is doing their thing. They have the option to take control of the ads and deploy them for everyone while the streamer takes a break to stretch of take a pee or get a cup of coffee, this way no one misses out on the stream and meanwhile if they could click on an ad to open a new tab they can go back to watching the stream once the ads are done and not have missed anything. Ads on Twitch for a LONG time has been in violation of COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act), anything from Amazon is a violation at a minimum. I have brought this to their attention, yet it goes ignored.
Report it to the FTC. Not allowed to show ads to anyone under the age of 13 online. - Mind you they shouldn't even allow people under the age 20 - 21 on Twitch given the content of some of the creators, teens don't have money to spend anyways.

There's also outside of twitch factors that greatly impact ad spend and ad revenue. Time of year, economic climate, financial situation of the firm wanting to advertise on twitch, etc etc. Take a look at when advertisers are spending the most amount possible, and when they aren't. The "adpocalypse" took place right as when most advertisers reduce spending post back to school and pre Christmas, so of course it's going to seem worse than it is, its one of the lowest spend points in the year for advertising, only surpassed by the post Christmas dry times of Jan/Feb. Hey I know it's off topic, but do you think you would ever make a video breaking down how you chose to brand your channel/business? And the process of figuring out the designs and stuff for logos, end screens, and general other parts of the channel?
It's not the extremist opinions its the one sided extremist opinions that the platform appears to support. The commons should be neutral. Twitch has failed its mandate.
Your missing a key point. You're mixing apples and oranges. Twitch is a Live stream platform that VODs stay up for a short while after the stream. (A few months). TH-cam is a VOD platform and the same problem occurs as far as unmatching on YT live streams. You didnt state this fact. Nor that you make videos mostly on YT. The problem is twitch not having true video and shorts portion that YT has. Its for streaming
It is very unfortunate to see a lot of ads disappear from twitch recently. What would make matters worse is if the site gets shut down, as has Rumble's CEO predicted back in October. This would financially devastate many small streamers.
Some of it too is just people not using their brain, I seen one big people complaining about their revenue decreasing to like a 3rd or a quarter had like 2 months ago streamed 24/7 for a month then went back to streaming normally after that, there's a couple reasons why that happened one, less time ads are viewed but possibly they got a lot of gifted subs during that monthlong subathon thing and less people were watching ads the next month , so the supposed revenue loss was just that they had that proportion of less add views.
One guy that freaked out had made $10,000 grand in ad revenue but he was doing a subathon and has a high ad run (He runs lots of ads) - he decided to make a stink because the next month he dropped back down to $2000 but he was finished his subathon. So of course his ads ran all night long. But he made it seem like it was Twitches fault.
The problem is simply “math”. 1. If you have a lot of subscribers watching you, less advertising will be broadcast. At the same time, Twitch itself offers to no longer see any advertising with twitch turbo for $10/€. 2. Then maybe 100, 1000 or 10,000 viewers remain. How much do you get on YT for 10000 views...not much, why should you get more on Twitch? All in all, you have few viewers who see advertising at all and they don't see much or expensive advertising either.
I failed to affiliate level on Twitch in 7years, Last few years I have been writing and planning my current path in progress. No results yet. Happy Holidays.
Idk about the YT ads being setup to the specific classification of the video. I mainly get food delivery ads and mobile game ads for any type of video I watch, even though the topic is not even related to food or games.
Twitch ads are SO HORRENDOUS as a viewer and as a streamer, couple that with the fact that the mobile app UI is so bad, I've resorted to using an unofficial twitch app. I initially got this app because of the UI on mobile but there are also no ads and there are quality of life features that Twitch does not have. For example, if someone @'s you in a stream chat, that chat is highlighted so you won't miss it.
Here's my opinion on the ads. i think it would make way more sense for twitch and/or youtube to make creating live content available only for a monthly or yearly subscription model. This would get rid of ads on these platforms specifically from live content. Allowing Streamers to do there own advertising and partnerships. Might make some people upset with this idea because it would obviously make streaming cost more money but i do think it would create more opportunity with advertisers which would in turn make more money for the streamers. Also adding a cost to streaming would weed out some of the oversaturation in the market and hopefully fix the problem with streaming platforms loosing money constantly. Just a thought, its not like i have any power in the space lol
They already have those options in place just like TH-cam, the problem is Twitch does nothing but live streaming. Partners can store the VODs up to 90 days in their servers. Problem is that most people watch the live content or the VOD the next day. No one really cares when the VOD is playing because no one misses content. The problem with the Live stream is you miss content. Twitch does have a small window to show the video but the audio is muted
Content classification shouldn't be THAT hard. I assume they are already looking at categories, like "Food & Drink" for ad targeting. What about using tags, and perhaps history of tag use, to target ads? A family-friendly tag on a stream should indicate that ads for alcohol and gambling might not hit right. What about allowing streamers to select advertising categories for their channel? The streamer likely knows what their community would like. There is potential that just isn't being applied.
My only problem is the languages of the ads, I get like german and other languages, that I dont understand. And also many people in smaller countries in europe might not understand even english, so thats just the biggest thing in my opinion. The next one is allowing like 5-7 ads in a row.
I think 'objectionable content' is an issue for some people (and both ways) but I do think it usually comes down to poor targeting - advertising McDonalds during a stream about weight-loss programs might be irritating for both sides.
TH-cam towards Twitch: I see you're going through the Adpocalypse right now been there done that. Me: I don't even watch Twitch like that so I don't even care. 😂
Personally, I think Twitch can pull the last 5 mins of live (does not really need to be precise) analyze it for "suitable" ADs category. If it fails, then use the category and community. And less intrusive ADs can be displayed over the top chat once a while, when there are no events, i.e. hype train, chat effects... etc.
Me as a viewer, if there is a annoying ad everytime i do something inside Twitch, i leave. That is why i almost no long use it anymore. The REAL problem is, there is no competition. A platform with a good sense of community, beautiful UI, badges, etc... monopoly is the worse for humanity
same. I'm on TH-cam Premium Family and I find that it's just easier to stay on this site and not have to deal with ads the moment I try to watch someone's stream.
Would rather be able to contact actual humans in the support for twitch. Buddy of mine just got false banned for fraud, and there isn’t a single way to get ahold of someone to ask why the appeal was rejected. Their system is bs
I made the conclusion years ago that the advertisers didn't really care about TH-cam's content that much. They just took opportunities to leave after TH-cam wasn't making them a lot of money. If anything, TH-cam making changes in response to advertisers leaving is the reason they lost so many. A bunch of them realized that TH-cam was panicked and took that to mean they should also go elsewhere. The same was always going to happen on Twitch, because Twitch is just as dumb with their changes as TH-cam is. The second something big and controversial enough happened there, Twitch would give the advertisers the excuse they needed to jump ship. Not sure what a good solution is. It just seemed inevitable.
I think the real reason is no one is spending money and online advertising isn’t profitable. I’d like to hear from advertisers to see their results. If you’re not a named brand or you’re not a larger named creator who’s actually benefiting from ads? It’s the carrot on the stick with starving creators will never be able to eat.
I recently had a big issue with ads. I have a family-friendly minecraft channel, and during October, Twitch was running ads for that Smile movie. Some of my viewer found these adds to be disturbing to them. I feel like we need some control on the type of ads played on our channels.
in terms of classification, does it have anything to do with how people say twitch does not have an algorithm where as youtube does?? (not sure how true this is though, it's just what i've *heard*)
No it'll go down in January and February. What's happening at this time of year is the advertising cycle is at the close of the year so some advertisers are pulling out and will use Hasan and a few others extremism to pull out. Twitch will have to resell ads but the advertisers will insist on a lower spend per ad because of returns on ad spend will be low as the ads are generally untargetted, as opposed to YT where if you're logged the ads are targetted based on your viewing habits and what you input into the search bar
The solution for twitch ads in my opinion is a skip button after 5 or 10 seconds of watching time, just like on youtube and theres a naver korean streaming site that i found from a korean youtuber and on there ads have a skip button and i think that would help alot.
Twitch ads are so weird lately. I get ads for some indian thing, prices in rupees and stuff. Than some brazilian fast food chain. Neither me nor the streamers are either. Seriously, what?
i shut my ads off. No one wants to come watch my streams when theres so many ads just to make .30 every now and then. as a causual small streamer, its annoying and not worth even running them.
doping short on TH-cam or tiktok as so don't work for small little streamers NO one cares! even if u are good streamer and doing all the wright things in your stream this is a FACT could be pove me wrong but i'm very skeptical it help or works
We also need to talk about the absolutely disgusting slap in the face Twitch was tryna pull off on artists with the cat ai art, and also that shitty layout change they added (which I'm hoping is just a bug) I thought Twitch were in the up n up but I guess it isn't all happy days
Life imitates art.. and Twitch problems imitate TH-cam problems

Those subtitled Thor clips were taken out of context. lmfao
An echo chamber is created by telling detractors to keep their opinions to themselves or go away.
Thanks Harris 👍🏼
I stopped going to twitch because of ads.
same. I'm on TH-cam Premium Family and I find that it's just easier to stay on this site and not have to deal with ads the moment I try to watch someone's stream.
brother there are some errors in this video , straight up just freezes at one point and im not the only one seeing it
We in here 🙌🏾
Would rather be able to contact actual humans in the support for twitch.
Yo Harris what’s going on with stream beats? Can’t find the website or the google drive for it
Feels like a 4 year cycle. First with pewdiepie. Around 2016/17 then 2020/21 now 2024/25
6:28 how did you do that :D
I think the real reason is no one is spending money and online advertising isn’t profitable. I’d like to hear from advertisers to see their results. If you’re not a named brand or you’re not a larger named creator who’s actually benefiting from ads? It’s the carrot on the stick with starving creators will never be able to eat.
Harris, I can almost assure you the advertisers want lower rates, they're using controversy and low returns as their reasoning.
Its also INSANELY expensive to advertise on Twitch compared to TH-cam.
Just a thought. You ever thought about creating a platform for streamers?
Not sure what an adpocalypse is.
(not sure how true this is though, it's just what i've *heard*)
can I ask why we are using blender as a whiteboard
Did he say dad of two ? Did I miss a child somewhere or we talking dog dad as well !
Wait isn't it fake and the only reason ad revenue went down for some is because of the time of the year or smthng
Exactly. PirateSoftware explained it perfectly
“Twitch ads situation is crazy”
When was this declared a thing? i thought this only affected a certain streamer or two.
Twitch going through it
gotta double check that render homie
Twitch ads are so weird lately.
I get ads for some indian thing, prices in rupees and stuff. Than some brazilian fast food chain.
Neither me nor the streamers are either.
Seriously, what?
i shut my ads off. No one wants to come watch my streams when theres so many ads just to make .30 every now and then. as a causual small streamer, its annoying and not worth even running them.
I have an idea, about the ads, is there maybe a way to DM you? I'm a programmer just for context.
doping short on TH-cam or tiktok as so don't work for small little streamers NO one cares! even if u are good streamer and doing all the wright things in your stream this is a FACT could be pove me wrong but i'm very skeptical it help or works
We also need to talk about the absolutely disgusting slap in the face Twitch was tryna pull off on artists with the cat ai art, and also that shitty layout change they added (which I'm hoping is just a bug)
I thought Twitch were in the up n up but I guess it isn't all happy days
