Libido, Hormones & Your Health | Mary Caire | TEDxTurtleCreekWomen

  • Libido is both sex drive and life drive. One of the challenges of aging for women and men alike is the loss of libido which is caused by hormonal imbalance. Mary Caire, MD, a practicing functional medicine physician, explores the connection between libido, hormones, and health. Dr. Caire advocates using libido as a barometer of wellness, especially in women facing menopause. She describes the historical dangers of synthetic hormone therapy and contrasts them with the benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Through personalized medicine, based on an individual's own genetics, biochemistry, hormonal balance, and nutritional needs, health can be optimized.
My relentless curiosity to find the root causes of disease has led me on a journey of discovery. After years of practicing medicine that focused on relieving symptoms, I found a greater joy in exploring the mystery of why symptoms occur. Along the way, I have learned that living a life of health beyond our expectations is possible, and that hope is more powerful than any medicine.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I have an interview tomorrow for a Nurse Prescriber role in bio identical hormones treatments. I can’t explain how excited I am and praying I get this role. Hormones have literally been the bane of my life since my early 20’s, suffering from severe PMT, PMDD and now Peri menopause. I have used a bio identical progesterone cream and have found it a godsend. I currently work predominantly with women and to be able to offer this treatment to others would be an incredible opportunity! 💖🤞🤞🤞

I've never had that "drive." I've always gone through the motions of life (and sex) have never really felt...excited about the day, motivated to get up in the morning. I've been diagnosed with a variety of mental disorders associated with lack of motivation and put on and taken off the medications associated with those diagnoses only to be re-diagnosed as something different. I've had my hormone levels checked, my doctor said they were normal, my thyroid is slightly on the slower side of normal but nothing to be concerned about. I have found the only thing that gets me out of bed and through the day are stimulants, because my newest diagnosis is ADHD and those meds give you energy in general. I don't believe I'm ADHD (I think it's overly diagnosed and the meds are too easily prescribed) but I do and have found the meds are all I have to be functioning at the rate I am required to at this point in my life. I would honestly like to have an opportunity to find a doctor that would be willing to go beyond the "usual" but it's impossible in our current health system in BC, Canada. I'm 27, have been aware of "feeling this way" since I was 13. What now?

Have you tried cutting out refined sugar? Have you tried cutting out carbs entirely? Have you tried taking iodine as Edgar Cayce recommends? These things have helped me.

I suggest you write to Dr Caire, pour your heart out and ask for over the phone/skype/whatsapp consultation. see if she can tailor a treatment for you. She could tell you what tests you should get and you could send your test results to her and take it from there. I agree with Sarah Dale there, cos iodine helped me a lot but sounds like you might need something more. Just be proactive and give her a shout, you never know she might suggest someone in your area who could help you. All the best..

I am 22 years old, so I'm nowhere near pre-menopause, let alone menopause. But I suffer from endometriosis.
The most difficult challenge I have had to face was finding the right treatment for me (I consider myself extremely lucky, many many women don't even get diagnosed).
All gynecologists prescribe the same birth control pills. I have experienced awful side effects and started having other issues related to those drugs (related to my mental state, my guts health and my thyroid function).
Everyone told me I was crazy and that birth control doesn't cause those issues.
After two years of research, I have re-balanced my hormones with specific supplements and a particular dieting program.
Everything, from drugs to nutrition, has to be tailored to a person's genome.

    • @JudyNepune
      @JudyNepune 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

what were those supplements? i am curious! :)

    • @StephanieTips

For endometriosis, reducing circulating estrogen is the key. I take magnesium and vitamin B6 daily to help with that. Also, taking lots of water, fibers and phytoestrogens with low estrogenic effects is important, as well as avoiding plastic containers and everything that contains xenoestrogens and much much more. Here's a thorough page I found about high estrogen levels and how to balance that www.energeticnutrition.com/vitalzym/estrogen_dominance.html

I suffered with endometriosis as well and was diagnosed as 20. Motrin was my biggest savior and finding the right BC pill, as you did. I’m happy to hear that you have found tailored relief! You’ve done your homework!

have your blood work done for all main hormones. rise and sleep with the sun getting proper grounded sunshine (safe zone is best). Minimize and
filter junk light(it is a big deal as we are piezo electric) learn to fast to optimize your body/mind. Investigate strategic choline/cholesterol foods at the right time (main hormones are made during sleep) to upregulate your own hormones and your life in general naturally.
