The Mantis Lords are my favorite Boss in the game because of the set up, your reward, and the fact that the fight is cut in two, one being a time to practice and learn the attacks and the second with using what you've learned from the first one but twice at once and faster.
It really is a super fun fight! Had some difficulty myself (died 8 times in a row) since I am generally not the best when it comes to fast-paced fighting in games, but the fact that this particular battle had a clear distinction for when you had gotten ~halfway through it + the reward of no longer having to fight anyone in the mantis village motivated me to keep on trying. And fuck it was satisfying when I actually beat them
@@niffry same , i also took around 5-6 tries at least, the secret lifeblood probably helped a bit. Also love the fact that after you beat mantis lords every mantis enemy stops attacking you and shows respect .
I'm very glad I fought mantis lords in the early game. It was more of a challenging difficulty than doing it later in the game and made me appreciate the fight way more than I would have if I found it later. So even though I can beat the fight with ease now. I still enjoy every second of it.
11:58 I think they don't all fight you at once because that would be dishonorable. They fight you one on one to see if your an equal to them and then they fight you two on one to see if you are superior to them. I imagine if they saw you as a huge threat that's when they would fight you three on one. That or Team Cherry just realized that would be too hard of a fight to put that early in the game
I thought it was the fact that they probably thought u were weak so they send one of their sisters to fight you, then after you defeat one the other two are basically like "oh okay let's get serious then."
Tbh the mantis lords fight was kind of like a dance, once you feel the rhythm the only thing that really fucks you up is just getting out of sync. (btw i'm not a fucking dancer i'm just saying what it feels like, please lord of gods don't have an entire army of dancers on my ass for this comment)

1st video: The Mantis Queens are actually pretty hard due to them being very unpredictable 2nd video: ...one of the most predictable patterns in the game
Well, the Mantis Lords only have, essentially, three attacks: 1. Dash: where one or two appear at the edges of the arena and dash towards the other end. Technically two variations, but due to the mechanics of the attack, it's functionally the same one. 2. Dive: where one appears in mid-air and dives to the ground. 3. Wall projectile: where one or two of them clings to one or two walls and throw a projectile each. This one has 6 variations, but they are more or less the same thing. There's not much else there. They are very easy to grasp, even if their attacks initiate with them appearing out of nowhere.
It's honestly amazing just to see how much opinions differentiate when it comes to Hollow Knight bosses. If anything, I kind of wish more HK channels did this so that I could see what everyone else thought and see just how wildly different others opinions are. I guess I could use myself as an example. I would have placed NK Grimm as easier than Pure Vessel because NK Grimm is very rhythmic, and I never use nail arts at all which help me to get a lot more hits on him. As for tips when it comes to AbsRad, POGO ON THE FINAL PHASE! You don't even need to switch platforms, just doge until she teleports to you and then pogo on her body leading the homing orbs offscreen. Imo it's the easiest phase. Either way, loved the video and especially your sense of humor. It was seriously a joy to watch and I hope more channels do this too.
Completely agree with everything, but I played the game in such an awkward order that it took me like 10 tries to kill the SoulMaster but 2 to kill the Mantis Lords
The great thing about Hollowknight is every player plays differently and has different strengths and weaknesses. So while earlier in this video you feel embarrassed for getting really mad at that one boss, later you're laughing at the screen because you killed another boss in one try.
The biggest mood! I was really surprised when I started watching Hollow Knight videos to find that so many people have trouble with Markoth? I think he took one or two tries; vanilla Radiance I got on the second try. But fucking Marmu took me probably 20 times... Galien took me literal hours.... unsure of what's wrong with me.
@@riley4767 yeah! for me, something like brooding mawlek or watcher knights is a thousand times harder than markoth. you just gotta run up and hit him, lol. got him first try. thing i hate most is bosses like brooding mawlek, lost kin, and nosk where there are blobs flying everywhere. those take me ages. and i guess your worst thing is the bouncy ones. did you have trouble with dung defender's bouncy attack? i think it's a little easier than smth like galien, because the dung balls have more space to bounce around in, so you're less likely to get hit and you can see them coming a little. plus that's not his only attack.
@@soupo-sandwich I had trouble with mawlek and the watcher knights, too! The latter is pretty universal, haha. Yes - I think you're right; the bouncers are not my friend. I took a strange route through my first time, so I fought Dung Defender pretty late - I think I was a little overpowered :P same with nosk. I didn't find him originally and found him when I was grub-hunting through deepnest late in the game (before finding the grub map). But oh my gosh lost kin took me AGES... he spawns so many tiny ghosts!! I ended up dreamshielding just so that I could focus on the vessel a bit more :)
@@riley4767 oh, that's a good strategy for lost kin. wish i had thought of it! i ended up brute-forcing that fight. i fought galien pretty late in the game myself, so i didnt have too much trouble with him once i came to terms with not being able to heal. honestly, same thing with markoth.
I did lost kin as soon as I could but took me 5 hrs (I timed myself) doing it as i didn't have a good nail set and didn't know i could take fragile strength charm in. BUT doing so made everything after so much easier by comparison. Only dreamer I died to so far (got to do markoth) was xero as I didn't know what I was doing. Oh and did I mention I only got shade dash AFTER doing almost everything only bosses I have left are nosk and markoth outside godhome and final fight... i was dumb
There are two bosses which I have gotten anxiety from, Winged Nosk and Soul Tyrant. Not because they were actually hard bosses, but because of POH. Winged Nosk is right before Sly and Soul Tyrant is right before Markoth.
Weird things i do in hollow knight: When a boss bows to me after we fight i WILL bow back Whenever I beat a dream boss i MUST shake my head up and down on their grave I MUST always talk to elderbug everytime i go back to hollownest What about you?
I spend all my soul before entering a dream fight and if I win on the first try I just stand still for 30 seconds then walk away slowly, second try is just standing still for 20 seconds, third try is 5 seconds, and 4th try and over I just walk away instantly
about the hollow knight being "easy", from my perspective it makes A LOT of sense, it may be infected and going crazy, but i beleave its not completely insane by the infection/radiance, and why i think that ? during the fight it literally STABS IT SELF, so it can help the next vessel contain the radiance, if the hollow knight was completely into the radiance it would be impossible, because its literally created to be the perfect knight, (maybe stronger then the 5 great knights) + full power of the infection, we all saw what happened when the mantis lord used his full power + infection full power, he became stronger then his 3 sisters together. THE HOLLOW KNIGHT is easy because it WANTS YOU TO WIN, HK+full infection could be as hard as the radiance her self
@@thatonegaminglatias4345 that doesn't make much of a sense, HK is weaker then pure vessel because it resists the infection, it faces a internal fight, if it embrace the infection it would be stronger then its normal form ( with the cost of it's mind) the traitor lord is the best example of what embracing the infection can do to a already strong being
@@Hephaestus_God Best way to flex on MMC: Equip for maximum nail length and attack speed. If you time your attacks perfectly the first time MMC does a straight charge at you, the knockback will exceed its forward speed... meaning you can stand perfectly still and keep smacking it back as it keeps futilely trying to reach you, until it finally dies never having done anything except a single, ultimately pointless charge. Poor bastard.
The charm recommendations really shows his playstyle is mostly with the nail like a lot of bosses spell tools are useful, volt twister for dung defender to force him out the ground, the defenders crest for lost kin or the enraged guardian which is effortless with fluknest and shamans
Yeah but he had soul eater + shaman + spell twister for pantheon 5 (abs rad) so he uses spells a lot too. Also that combination of charms is so op you can just spam spells constantly with it and they do so much damaga
I beat nkg in about 35 tries and I've fought pv 100's of time at his statue and cant figure him out.. Everyone has their thing that their brain just can't wrap around. Which makes the assortment so amazing.
One thing to remember in the sheo fight is to pay attention to his brush, as each attack uses different paint, orange for discount dash slash, blue for not so great slash, red for off brand Grimm, and purple for rip off hive knight
I just want to say that the first time I ever fought the watcher knights I had like 6 charm slots, level 3 nail(I think), dash(no not shadow dash), and claws…it was also hell cause I only had 6 hp
The main problem I had with the oblobbles was how their acid balls were just slightly shot at a different angle so you can’t just sit in between the path
I literally went through all of deep nest just exploring not know what tf to do and found the watcher and nosk and was like "oh cool" and randomly found a pale ore. I just thought "oooo that thing to upgrade my nail... that's what I get after that nightmare nosk?
In my second playthrought I fought Hornet sentinel/2 without a nail upgrade, five mask and four charm notches. This made her my official favorite boss in the game.
Tip: To get my shade back in the enraged guardian fight, I went an inch into the room and jumped up once to lure it towards me :) Another tip: I found that for Nkg’s flame pillar attack, you can hit him once sideways, twice from the bottom, AND still have time to heal. Also, if you can judge distance well you can sharp shadow close to him during his flame bat attack and hit him twice without taking damage. Three hits worth of damage. Didn’t have to use any nail arts. Last tip: I beat broken vessel first try because I spam slashed it while it was “headbanging.” Tanked only 2 hits of damage.
1:30 Might you mute your misuse of m? 12:46 “General Grievous maneuver.” 37:03 “Written with a code that’s literally smarter than you are.” Amen to that.

Nice word play. Way to flex on the Massive Moss Charger Personally Id rank flukwarm last because you can just go on his head and bounce on him the entire fight and the little guys will just fly into your bounces (with a little adjustment of course) edit: I also agree with you on the watcher knights being a breeding ground for mixed opinions. Ever since my first encounter I don't think I have ever taken damage from them, they are just so easy to me for some reason. same with sly, you just have to move in one direction and he can't hit you
T G with Watcher Knights on radiant difficulty I was able to shred them one by one as they spawned in because the health is so low. Combined with Descending Dark you can’t get hit. 😂
@@Coniff The nail kills them in one hit with unbreakable strength though? i should know that was the strat i used when doing the pantheon of hallownest took at least 10 seconds to kill the boss
Broken Vessel is mostly challenging because he’s likely one of the first bosses you’ll meet where you have to multitask. It can easily get frustrating and overwhelming in his second phase when his sky cancer starts swarming you and you have to swat them away while still paying close attention to him and dodging him which sometimes said sky cancer will prevent you from being able to do. Also, no, you cannot stay in one spot to avoid the head bang attacks unless you happen to get lucky they cover pretty much the whole arena and are random.
My best advice for abs rad -take your time in phase one -try to do phase two fast, but heal if possible. You want to go into the climb with max health -pogo on the radiance’s head on the last phase, and make sure to stay above the screen. This way, the orbs won’t get you.
Don't even need to pogo on the head for it to work, just make sure you are above the orb at an angle going upwards or sideways above the mid part of the screen and it goes through the top.
I literally had more trouble with the Soul Warrior "Boss" than the Soul Master, idk why but I died like 5 times to SW and first tried the SMaster on my current and first playthrough
Being on end-game optimized setups just made it that much more insulting when Soul Warrior would show up and tag me. Until maybe the fifth time, I kept thinking Soul Master was coming, and whack. You can heal a blow to your health, but not one to your pride.
@@theballoonfamily9539 But the only reason to beat Zote 10 times is for bragging rights - 4 times is enough to finish his plotline, and his appearance in Godhome only does one mask of damage. Judging him by Zote 10 is like judging the other bosses on Radiant difficulty.
Rusty:please don't heal 2 mask on pure vessel at time *Me who defeated that boss whit quick Focus deep Focus worms song and unbrekable strengh:i'm about to Beat this man whole carrer*
I Exist I’m guessing that when you buy the fragile strength from that weird guy and give it to the wierd person in the Grimm troupe who eats charms, shell crap out unbreakable strength, just a guess tho
I will argue that the Hollow Knight is a TON more difficult at lower upgrades, especially without shadow dash. Plus, this isn't based on how enjoyable the bosses are, but hardness. There are some bosses, like Mantis Lord, Hollow Knight, and Dung Defender, that's a ton of fun. Also, fun fact, you can abyss shriek Nosk in the ceiling.
@@shadowjedi4602 I’m not sure how he cheesed it but I can give some tips. Don’t get above him, you’ll get hit by the jumps far to often. Don’t rely on the dash to avoid damage, as both the boss and the shockwaves are large enough to make dashing through it safely quite difficult. Stay in close, but be careful not to get backed in to a corner, and don’t pursue the boss yourself. If you can stay in the middle of the arena you’ll be far better off. Just dodge the shockwaves, and let him jump to you. If he does start backing you in to a corner, then get into said corner. He’ll either jump to you or away. If he jumps away, you’ll have the space you need. If he jumps to you, you can dash back under him into the middle of the arena. A longer nail can be helpful for the rare occasion he decides to swing his hammer without jumping away. He almost never does this if you stay in the middle, but sometimes it happens and there isn’t much time to react. So, if you’re further away, you’ll have a better chance of getting out safe.
@@shadowjedi4602 Just equip weaversong, Grimm's child, glowing womb and king soul to have an infinite amount of soul that those wombs will pump to the last drop... Then, jump on a top corner of the room and jump on the wall till the boss is knocked out to come gaining soul with the dream nail and repeat till he's dead. It took something like 10 minutes of extremely boring fight
@@shadowjedi4602 Just spam him with quickslash + unbreakable strength, then at the end use dreamnail and fill up your soul and health since he gives you an infinite time to do so. Failed Champion is probably one of the easiest bosses to me especially when its able to carry you for the nkg fight
On the topic of going under the platform for Xero; on my first playthrough I managed to get to the resting grounds through crystal peaks before even getting the dash let alone the mantis claw so I couldn't get back up onto the arena. And every time I died I'd go back to the first crystal peaks bench (the one in the dark room with all the rotating spike platforms).
Lol. I used a debug mod to respawn some of the bosses I already killed on an existing save. Turns out, capturing footage of literally every boss in the game is a tall and time consuming order. Booting up a previous save file and respawning bosses made capturing a lot of these fights much easier. Figured it would take less time than starting up a new file and basically just 112-ing the game all over again.
Wow, I just watched the video and I congratulate you for all the massive work and effort you've put in the video, I really enjoyed watching this, here you have my humble like sir.

The Mantis Lords are my favorite Boss in the game because of the set up, your reward, and the fact that the fight is cut in two, one being a time to practice and learn the attacks and the second with using what you've learned from the first one but twice at once and faster.
ok Mezzamine
Actually if you train mantis lords pattern you can beat them at radiant difficult(one shot difficult)
I'm very glad I fought mantis lords in the early game. It was more of a challenging difficulty than doing it later in the game and made me appreciate the fight way more than I would have if I found it later. So even though I can beat the fight with ease now. I still enjoy every second of it.

Yeah, they're easily one of the most fun bosses in the game (added points due to it being a gank fight that's actually good, too)
11:58 I think they don't all fight you at once because that would be dishonorable. They fight you one on one to see if your an equal to them and then they fight you two on one to see if you are superior to them. I imagine if they saw you as a huge threat that's when they would fight you three on one. That or Team Cherry just realized that would be too hard of a fight to put that early in the game
Damn I just thought mantises were cool
Heh so now it is a thing. (Sisters of battle).
I thought it was the fact that they probably thought u were weak so they send one of their sisters to fight you, then after you defeat one the other two are basically like "oh okay let's get serious then."

1st video: The Mantis Queens are actually pretty hard due to them being very unpredictable
2nd video: ...one of the most predictable patterns in the game
Since predictability is only dependent on experience, maybe after fighting them for so long, they become easy to read.
Well, the Mantis Lords only have, essentially, three attacks:
On my 112 steel mode run, the queens gets done the moment they are available it's just basis jump and slash

I did lost kin as soon as I could but took me 5 hrs (I timed myself) doing it as i didn't have a good nail set and didn't know i could take fragile strength charm in. about the hollow knight being "easy", from my perspective it makes A LOT of sense, it may be infected and going crazy, but i beleave its not completely insane by the infection/radiance, and why i think that ? during the fight it literally STABS IT SELF, so it can help the next vessel contain the radiance, if the hollow knight was completely into the radiance it would be impossible, because its literally created to be the perfect knight, (maybe stronger then the 5 great knights) + full power of the infection, we all saw what happened when the mantis lord used his full power + infection full power, he became stronger then his 3 sisters together.
THE HOLLOW KNIGHT is easy because it WANTS YOU TO WIN, HK+full infection could be as hard as the radiance her self
Radiance actually WEAKENED it. Pure Vessel is said perfect soldier.
@@thatonegaminglatias4345 that doesn't make much of a sense, HK is weaker then pure vessel because it resists the infection, it faces a internal fight, if it embrace the infection it would be stronger then its normal form ( with the cost of it's mind) the traitor lord is the best example of what embracing the infection can do to a already strong being
@@mrcafe3x_ Also cause idk, it has a broken nail, broken shell, MISSING AN ARM and no soul

T G with Watcher Knights on radiant difficulty I was able to shred them one by one as they spawned in because the health is so low. Combined with Descending Dark you can’t get hit. 😂
not in case where you go to him without 2nd nail upgrade and i can't oneshot flies
Flukemarm is harder on higher difficulties because even a fully upgraded nail with unbreakable strength won't kill the flies in one hit.
@@Coniff The nail kills them in one hit with unbreakable strength though? i should know that was the strat i used when doing the pantheon of hallownest took at least 10 seconds to kill the boss
T G on Ascended and Radiant difficulty it doesn’t kill them in one hit, I think in the Pantheon is the normal difficult.
"So, Broken Vessel is easier than your mom..."
The quality I came for.
yu9
He’s obviously exaggerating, Broken vessel isn’t THAT easy
Ah yes, well than my mom is harder to defeat than absolute radience because I died over 25 flipping times on that boss!!!
Martin Melano Paz Yeah I’d probably put him in the low thirty’s high twenty’s area.
@@slavicj6908 nah, I beat him the first time and only got hit once
28:08
"Any extra inch you can squeeze in on him is, I believe, a good advantage."
Should I even say it?
THATS WHAT SHE SAID
7:18 “all of his moves can be pretty easily dodged”
Immediately gets hit by its simplest attack
7:17
My best advice for abs rad
-take your time in phase one
-try to do phase two fast, but heal if possible. You want to go into the climb with max health
-pogo on the radiance’s head on the last phase, and make sure to stay above the screen.
Same here lol
The first time I fought it I took forever, but when I fought the other one with the snail shaman, I demolished it first try. Progress
Lol i beat Soul Warrior first try.
It took me 5 attempts to beat soul warrior 2
Being on end-game optimized setups just made it that much more insulting when Soul Warrior would show up and tag me. Until maybe the fifth time, I kept thinking Soul Master was coming, and whack.
You can heal a blow to your health, but not one to your pride.
I didn’t expect you to go so hard right out of the gate but that MMC wordplay was absolutely incredible.
The fact that uumuu is over half way up the list because of Godhome is kinda hilarious
Rusty: Give this guys a protective cup?
Markoth: You're gonna regret that
Did he just rank Zote over Pure Vessel??
Mathis Wagner yes he did
he did, why? Zote can after fighting him enough times deal 10 MASKS OF DAMAGE!!! and his attacks are pretty much RNG...
More surprised that NKG is ranked above both of them. I'd say it's more like PV > Zote 7-9 > Zote 10 >>> NKG
@@theballoonfamily9539 But the only reason to beat Zote 10 times is for bragging rights - 4 times is enough to finish his plotline, and his appearance in Godhome only does one mask of damage. Judging him by Zote 10 is like judging the other bosses on Radiant difficulty.
Pure vessel feels like a fight, Zote makes me so angry to fight him that I have to take a break because loosing to him is that frustrating
Disagree with a lot of this stuff, but that script you made is ingenious lol
Roland Zou yeah! i disagreed with some but it was really well written and like i can see why he placed them the way he did
Grey prince zote placement.....
Rusty:please don't heal 2 mask on pure vessel at time
*Me who defeated that boss whit quick Focus deep Focus worms song and unbrekable strengh:i'm about to Beat this man whole carrer*
Unbrekable strengh? What is that?
I Exist I’m guessing that when you buy the fragile strength from that weird guy and give it to the wierd person in the Grimm troupe who eats charms, shell crap out unbreakable strength, just a guess tho
@@chimcham300 i was referring to how they butchered unbreakable
You who forgot to go to school: I'm gonna forfeit my whole career
*godzilla had a stroke trying to read this and fucking died*
My Watcher Knight charm setup was Grubsong, Defender’s Crest, Weaversong, Glowing Womb, and Grimmchild. I don’t know how, but it worked perfectly.
He ranks hollow knight bosses
He roast hollow knight bosses
But more importantly...
He roast us
I am confused
I fear no man... But that THING,
(Gruz Mother on Radiant)
It scares me.
Don't be afraid
You are greating than that paps
......
Gemme dat spagetti
I've had more trouble with Radiant Vengefly King(s)
@Mr.Swaggins wait gruz MOTHER is a MAN? I don't think this is a normal man...
Lol I beat Grimm on radiant, but not Gruz Mother like wtf is this
Markoth on Radiant is actually bull shit lol
I will argue that the Hollow Knight is a TON more difficult at lower upgrades, especially without shadow dash. Plus, this isn't based on how enjoyable the bosses are, but hardness. There are some bosses, like Mantis Lord, Hollow Knight, and Dung Defender, that's a ton of fun. Also, fun fact, you can abyss shriek Nosk in the ceiling.
thanks now my steel soul mode run won't end as fast! :D
Steeldancer it took me 10 mins literally to beat Nosk
Honestly the alliteration at boss 1 made my fucking day. Well done sir 👑
First video I watched of this guy, a minute I and I already like him
0:55
Same lol
That's rusty for ya
Rusty: Failed champion isn't THAT easy
Me, a complete noob who cheesed it: come again?
How... how did you cheese it? Him mixed with markoth is the reason why I haven’t beaten PoH.
@@trevordillon1921 I uh chase him and it seems to work well in the pantheons but Markoth and Zote kill me before I reach the fat ass
“If I don’t know what I’m doing then you sure as shit don’t either.” That’s awesome
On the topic of going under the platform for Xero; on my first playthrough I managed to get to the resting grounds through crystal peaks before even getting the dash let alone the mantis claw so I couldn't get back up onto the arena. And every time I died I'd go back to the first crystal peaks bench (the one in the dark room with all the rotating spike platforms).
tbh, i had no problems with the watcher knights....
after I equipped literally every single summon-charm in the game.
I beat it first try with no trouble at all, just tunnel one, then another, then another, and so on
Ah yes the M E M E B U I L D a fine choice sir
I pogoed on top of them and it was easy if you have enough health. They will hit you when they jump but you hit them much more.
wait, you had shade cloak during hornet 2
lol
exposed
Pretty sure Godhome just puts you in Hornet Sentinel's original arena for some reason.
@@numimio no, it's similar but is not the same area (like the rest of areas :p)
@@Rusty._ it's alright i get it
i just thought it was funny
RUSTY - The Superforge why not just go to godhome?
Wow, I just watched the video and I congratulate you for all the massive work and effort you've put in the video, I really enjoyed watching this, here you have my humble like sir.
26:35 The fact that u ranked the God Tamer higher than the Lost Kin is genuinely hilarious. My pain brought the Lost Kin joy and euphoria, earning his spot as my second least favorite boss in Hollow Knight. I beat the God Tamer on the first try.
