    Track info:
    Got my KORG ms-20 this week. Hooked it up for the first time today through a ibanez analogue Echo Shifter delay.
    The ms20 was synced with a KORG monotribe through a jomox t-resonator with added rev+ddl FX.. the ms20 is clean except for the analogue delays.
    No multitracking... one take no edits and overdubs straight into DAW just some limiter to keep the peaks down. And yep, its noisy and hissy, but thats the way i like it.
    And yeah, i suffer from "cutoff frequency knob ticks"... 30 years w analogue synths does that to you :)

    After watching some of these analog jams, I don't think I'll ever be truly satisfied with my VST synths. Analog just sounds...SOOOO good.

    • @BURG
      @BURG  11 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Yeah, i agree... i have never really been friends with my VSTs in terms of creativity. I have the Artuira V collection for example, but it never really replaces the real deal... having one of two analogue machines will do magic for your creativity (at least thats the way for me) Peace, and dont stop the music!

    I just bought myself an MS20 Mini and have been obsessed with it. To quell my obsession a bit while not around it, I left this on loop while I worked today and now I’m home from work with it on loop again while I make dinner. Amazing textures and sounds.
    May just have to knick that patch you’ve got going here :)
    Also, I can’t explain how the synth line bubbling up at 2:05 with the drums going on makes me feel.
    This jam is phenomenal.

  • @gordonjamieson4787

    Maybe it's because I am Scots. It similar to some music my Uncles played on pipes. For a 'jamming' session this is hypnotic. I am now old enough at 58yrs to remember building VCO & VCF's from discrete components ( and pocket money ) and mating them to a keyboard switch array, to approximate a Moog; we could not afford the "real thing". The sound you have achieved is without doubt, through much experience, astonishing. Pass it on - What was ALL the other kit you were using. Thank you, GordonJ, Edinburgh, UK.

    • @BURG
      @BURG  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! wow what a great story, thanks for sharing! also thanks much for liking the music and the comment, really appreciated!
      On the kit in this video, ms20 mini is synced with the monotribe melody which is connected thruohg the jomox t-resonator which has a DDL/rev fx setting.. the ms20 is kept clean except for the analogue delays by the ibanze es-2 echo shifter.
      thanks!

    i like everything about this...synth sounds great, delay sounds great, tiger from a can (especially a small can) is very rare (at least in dublin) and great! how do you find the echo shifter? like how is the tap tempo on it? you find it easy enough to sync things? also what on the ms 20 min do you have in sync with the monotribe - is it like the re trig? cheers
    conor

    • @BURG
      @BURG  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks a lot!! yeah, the tiger local here in asia, so not that hard to get your hands on. :) The echo shifter is great for the purpose.. eg as analogue delay for my ms20 mini, for guitar i have no idea.. its not the best "sounding" out there but it was cheap and will self oscillate if needed. =) Easy to set tempo, tap works fine, but the slider is a bit tricky at times. On this track i dont remember what i trigged on the ms20, i guess its the trig.. cheers, and thanks for commenting!

    "No multitracking... one take no edits and overdubs straight into DAW just some limiter to keep the peaks down" - can you explain this for me as if I were a 5th grader? I know what multitracking is but how do you get all those layers looping (or not ) on one track? What DAW? Great stuff too, thanks.

    • @BURG
      @BURG  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you see is simply recorded live in one take with no overdubs e.g all sounds you hear is made on the spot. The DAW (cubase) is just used as a 2 track tape recorder and post dynamic processing of the audio file. cheers

    No wonder Devo loved this unit so much!

      Devo's mainstay synth was the Moog Minimoog. I don't know that they ever used this one, but I might be wrong. Maybe during the 2010s or something, but for the most part it was the Minimoog, the EML 500, and the Moog Sonic Six

    I really want to get into using synths for kind of Prog rock type music and stuff similar to what you're playing. What equipment, other than the synth, is required?
    I know you need an amp, but will a Marshall guitar amp work?
    Thanks :)

    • @BURG
      @BURG  11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      hi! some sort of line mixer is recommended.. marshall amp will do, but since its not really made for line in audio use you will loose the overall dynamic range and timbre (if using hi-z inputs on an guitar amp)
      so, get a line mixer and studio speakers/and or use with current hifi equipment/speakers... combined with a DAW+soundcard. Nowadays when you buy a soundcard you get a lite version of a DAW included. Check with your local music retail store for great deals!
      also, check this thread on getting started tips:: synthtopia, www.synthtopia.com/content/2013/11/25/open-mic-what-gear-would-you-recommend-for-someone-getting-started-with-electronic-music/comment-page-3/

      For synths you probably want a bass amp or a keyboard amp so the speakers can handle the lows.

      +ollilaboratories hi! great video, i often listen to it because it sounds so good! I wanted to ask you something: is this synth as noisy as a lot of people is saying? and what is that ekofarm is referring to? I have read somewhere that effect pedals help taming the noise, is it true?
