    I switched to Firefox at the beginning of last year and it has been my favorite browser, though the 77.0.1 version was broken and became almost unusable on my 5 year old desktop that ran Linux Mint 19.3 that I replaced yesterday. Now on my new computer with LM 20 and recent 78.0.1 update it works like it used to. Overall Firefox is the best browser for me.

    • @ChrisTitusTech
      @ChrisTitusTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yup I really enjoyed my time with Vivaldi, I think I must have run into an old extention or issues with them conflicting with the latest version because it went from fast to very slow quickly. If I had to point to a culprit it would probably be ublock origin.

    • @jebbush2527
      @jebbush2527 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Chris Titus Tech I stopped using ublock in Vivaldi just because I added a few lists to the built in ad and tracker blocking and it works just as well. My philosophy is always as few extensions as possible. Yeah, i lose some functionality, but i don’t really notice. Mine hasn’t slowed down.

    • @achillesa5894
      @achillesa5894 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ChrisTitusTech They have recently added the built-in ad and tracker blocker so you don't need uBlock anymore. Though it's worth noting I use uBlock myself and Vivaldi (latest version) still feels very snappy. You could try going to the Vivaldi Snapshot build, maybe that will work. For some reason a lot of people seem to be getting random performance issues with Vivaldi, I hope the developers work on that.

      I'm pretty much in love with Vivaldi, don't even look at other browsers any more. I was a huge fan of classic Opera from pre-2014, Vivaldi is by the guy who made that. I have been most delighted by its recent evolutions, the addition of a mobile browser with sync and the new powered-up Notes panel especially. To me it's the best power browser, and also the most rapidly-improving. It's got a lot of potential - I barely even browse the web any more because the experience has become so awful with ads and stupid cookie and popup messages etc. I just clip stuff I want to read using Evernote. But Evernote is much worse than Vivaldi in many user-friendliness aspects like UI customization. I'm hoping that Vivaldi's Notes could eventually evolve into a better version of Evernote. Especially because I'm moving to Linux and Evernote has no desktop app for Linux, only a web app with less functionality. My move to Linux has been so much easier because Vivaldi is such an important hub for my computer activity, and it works perfectly across the Lin/Win barrier. If Vivaldi Notes starts to incorporate proper page clipping, note history, tagging and Tomboy Notes-like cross-note linking functionality, it will be a stone cold Evernote killar!

    I've never used Brave on Linux, but I have on Windows a little. I do like Brave but I'm not sure why I don't run it on Linux. I tend to use Firefox as my primary browser on both my Linux systems. People complain about Firefox being "slow" but neglect to mention the plethora of add-ons they have installed. I actually maintain a couple of "extra" Firefox profiles: one is "Vanilla" which has no extensions installed; one is "malware" for when I test phishing email links and I have a couple of security related add-ons installed.
    I use Opera a little and have Chromium and Vivaldi installed, mostly for website testing purposes.

    I've grown to enjoy the Firefox workflow (moving away from Chrome). Only thing I don't like about Firefox is when you're on a slow connection, the URL takes forever just to show up in the address bar. If you're opening a new tab, didn't see the URL beforehand and your connection is *that* horrible, it might give up loading, and you can't even refresh the page because there's no URL there. Both desktop and iOS; I bet it's the same on Android.
    Another thing about Firefox; it tends to give up loading the page rather quickly on a bad connection. I still like its built-in features, its tracking protection, and the syncing.

    I use many browsers in parallel and this speeds up my workflow. Instead of having in the same app multiple tabs opened, or to open/close tabs all the time, I use a different browser for all my main tasks. I then open all my browsers at startup, keep them opened, and switch between them with keyboard shortcuts. So I use different browsers for : my professional email, my private email, my CRM, my company software, my tasks, my Internet browsing, my TH-cam viewing, etc. I then tried many browsing apps and the best that I found are the ones either based on Firefox or Chromium. With those, all works directly out of the Box. On my Arco Linux install (Arch), I managed to easily install through Pamac the following browsers based on Firefox : Firefox, Cliqz, Librewolf, Waterfox, Abrowser, Pale Moon. And the browsers based on Chromium that I use are Brave and Vivaldi. Hopefully this idea could also improve your setup.

    How do I get Gmail in Brave broswer? Also can anybody tell me how to get Vivaldi brower working? When I load it up, after about a second it closes itself. when I try to play most TH-cam videos in firefox I keep getting this stupid "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available. Click here to visit our frequently asked questions about HTML5 video." How do I fix this? I tried removing extensions, clearing my history, installing the microsoft media feature pack, but nothing worked. SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP!

    You talked about customization, performance, etc. But what about privacy? Loading pages 2ms faster and/or tweaking the overall look of the browser is not worth giving away so much data. Firefox FTW.

    I'm a Firefox and Chromium user since like forever. Vavaldi and Brave are pretty ok, but I don't like the look and feel of them. I just dont have the feelings I have for my usual browsers. They do the job together with my add ons. I guess choosing the right web browser is the same discussion as the typical what Linux distro people should use. The power of choice : use whats suits you the best, it's more of a personal choice.

    I know you dont use Firefox that much but if you know, is this sync feature better than Firefox's sync. And if it is, what makes it better. My bookmarks, usernames, settings are all automatically set up by Firefox Sync, its got a mobile version (I dont know if Brave has one) and I can send websites from my phone to my laptop with it. It would be interesting to try Brave but these kind of sync features firefox give me are great and using the same browser and mobile and pc is useful for a lot of reasons.
    P. S. Talking about mobile, what browser do you use on your phone Chris?

    I use Brave which loads most of my pages seconds faster than any other browser because of its ad blocking. I then have to use Firefox to download any videos from TH-cam, since the Brave code base won't allow any extensions that can do that - and it still provides capabilities that aren't directly censored by Google. Firefox is worth supporting because there should always be more than a single code base for something implementing open protocols like http!

    In my opinion, Brave is like iOS. It's cool & good but it doesn't have some good abilities.
    But Vivaldi, which I had switched to it recently, have more good abilities. For your privacy, you can install extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger.
    At Vivaldi, you have a sidebar, you can tile your tabs in columns, your tabs stack is collapsed, etc.
    At Brave, I don't know about the previous versions but for now (Version 1.10.97 Chromium: 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit)), Brave doesn't have a sidebar, can't tile your tabs, your tabs group can't be collapsed.
    For the tabs grouping, It's bad to see that you can't expand the tabs stack at Vivaldi & collapse the tabs group at Brave. They could have gotten both collapsing & expanding tabs group/stack.
    About syncing, I saw you had most options of syncing at Brave in this video which I wanted to know if there is an option in "brave://flags", please tell me to enable it. Because I can see only one option which is the bookmarks.
    At Vivaldi, you have more syncing options. I just saw it and turned it on but I hadn't tried it yet.
    I wish other browsers have the 2 best features of Firefox in them. 1) View page info. 2) Take a screenshot.
    We should use the computer's screenshot or an extension at the browser but Firefox have it itself.
    Thank you for making this video. 🌺

    I don't like all the crap that most browsers have. Right now I'm using qutebrowser which is a minimal vim-like browser, the only disadvantage is that it doesn't have a full addblock, so I'm still in search of that perfect minimal browser, maybe one day...

  • @Dunestorm333

    One reason I don't use Chromium based browsers is because I really value competition, I don't want to see a repeat of what happened with NetScape Navigator and then later IE where websites were designed for specific rendering engines rather than using web standards like it should be.
    Although Chromium is open source, I think it's valuable to have at least more than one open source rendering engine out there as it discourages web developers from going against best practise. Firefox is great, I have no issues with it at all and now even their new Android browser is just as great. I've been using it for a few years now solidly and it just keeps getting cleaner and cleaner :)

    The only reason I use Firefox is the ability to add extensions/add-ons on mobile devices.
    Chrome, Vivaldi & Brave doesn't support extensions on their mobile apps.
    As a web developer myself knowing how to write my own browser extensions, I can't live without a browser without an extensions. I know there are Yandex, Kiwi, Dolphin & few others chromium based mobile browsers that support extensions, but Firefox seems to be the most well known to many since many years ago.

    I'd appreciate your opinion as I'm stuck on making a tough decision. I'm looking for an optimal web browser set up for maximum online privacy. I'm debating which of these 3 options is best. The first option is using 4 different web browsers, 1 for each (email, banking, shopping and general web browsing). Option 2 is using Firefox exclusively and having 4 different user profiles set up. Option 3 is to use just 1 Firefox user profile and create "containers". I love firefox and really prefer option 3 best then option 2 because it would be great using 1 browser. However, I'm thinking it will not offer the most security against fingerprinting and tracking. I'm new to all this and would greatly appreciate your suggestions!

Then suddenly, one day I thought of not using all of that as I felt that it was bothering me. I removed the ad subscription and it's details in the browser's dashboard. Everything was working fine but Ads started appearing in the TH-cam and also some other few sites(I mean very few). I don't know before all those subscriptions, ads never appeared in any of the sites I visit, but I guess it all started with the Unsubscription.
