So, the problem with planes is - MiG-21 and 25 are interceptors both at heart and in practice. Without drop-tanks (which weren't even fitted to the 25 afaik) they aren't making it from Crimea to Georgia period. In the 2008 Three-Day War (as well as in both of the Chechen campaigns), RUAF used Krasnodar, Sochi and other airbases around them to send flights into Georgia. I get that these airbases aren't in the game yet, but yeah, that's why your planes had no range.
nvm historically accurate but i think closing the distance may have saved the fleet and gotten those early and crucial kills on three threatening warships
I think an interesting scenario could be the story of/similar to the mutany of the Soviet frigate Storozhevoy. The soviet navy and air force were both hunting a soviet frigate because of a mutany. I also think a scenario of a submarine or ship trying to desert and beeing hunted while trying to reach a neutral or enemy port could be interesting.
This scenario is extremely similar to one you could make in DCS though obviously the focus there would be more on the air assets and so you probably *would* see Tu-22Ms in the equivilent. The 'default' free map with the game is Caucasus and it has pretty much the identical area to what you show on your map in this including the bias towards Georgia as the main 'engagement zone' and NATO's ships are positioned roughly where most mission makers put the NATO carrier fleets and the airbases and soviet assets are also even coming from or where they tend to get put too. I've played somewhat similar scenarios to this but not one quite this specific as it'd take a while to wait out in real time in a jet. It might make for an interesting scenario though so it's given me ideas! Most of the ship behaviours in Sea Power are also there in DCS too it's just that they're a little more primative- no fancy missile formations for the AI surface ships as an example though both games ironically feature a fairly hefty soviet bias when it comes to anti missile intercept capability. DCS does entirely lack the subsurface aspect too though since the focus is obviously on the air aspect. It's interesting to see how similar they are using this mission as a backdrop despite the difference in genre, DCS' 'strategy' component is very weak compared to Sea Power's (and it isn't intended as that type of game) but the overlap is still pretty strong. Sea Power has such great variety of ship types too, and I'm really glad they kept the emphasis on that after Cold Waters
9:10 The PHM Pegasus class hydrofoil boats, I understand, “only” manage 12 knots using their 2 800 HP diesel engines driving water jets, above that they need their thirsty gas turbine - and ~25 knots to get onto their foils. They also need sea state 5 (or 6 but with long swells) to fly.
SEA POWER is looking real good! Being a current Cold Waters player I'm very interested in this title. Can't wait to pick it up on Steam next week! Thank you for the great videos and content! o7.
I wonder if the targeting for Sanpan was off because it was supposed to be a larger cargo chip. The shells seemed to all be landing just ahead with very few overshots, right where amidship would be on a freighter.
If you tell the MiG-25s to maintain 60,000+ ft, they're going to burn fuel faster just trying to stay up where the air is thinner. The most efficient cruising altitude for most jet fighters is between 37-43,000 ft.
The main guns on modern (or at least until the turn of the century) naval ships are mostly anti air. Giant, rapid firing flak guns, from a WWII perspective.
Thanks for all the content you are producing I really enjoy it! I would love it if you could focus on the Ticonderoga class cruiser for an episode. They are super cool ships.
Nice to see my favorite Soviet destroyer class in action! Speaking of which, I wonder if they have the Mod Kashin class in the game, since I've only seen the original Kashins so far. A Mod Kashin would be much better in this situation since they had a small amount of SS-N-2s and CIWS systems.
@@Stealth17Gaming😮 I think Sampans are the job of dumb bombs, air launched unguided rockets or CIWS. It looks like the hit percentage and dispersion of deck gun rounds is fixed/constant and distance from target is not part of game calculation.
Looks like you turned off the surface radar instead of activating the air one :D. But another great scenario, can't wait to see how it goes (and to play them as soon as the game comes out)
I believe you can force the CIWS to engage surface targets if its in range. Might be a better option for dealing with sampan sized targets than those 76s.
From other videos I've seen that aircraft go into afterburner when ordered to climb. That's what's probably killing their range and why they couldn't reach your fleet.
if this had been a real life event, i wonder what the american captain would have thought. He sees a soviet warship opening fire on a tiny cargoship with it's guns and they hit close to nothing. That bridge crew would have been lying on the ground from laughter But that would also explain why they took so long to respond
I can sort-of script something like that, but not fully to my liking. I can set up a zone in the mission editor. If a ship enters that zone something can happen, such as a message to the player, a ship turning neutral or hostile etc. Unfortunately that zone isn't mobile. I can't attach it to a ship.
Yeah. The artillery accuracy, especially in the surface-to-surface role, is pretty underwhelming considering that within 10,000 yards was on the edge of point blank range (even during WW2). That's not even considering my thoughts on artillery accuracy on missiles/aircraft (not so much that they can directly hit said fast & small targets, just that w/ VT Fuses you'd think they'd suffer quite the shrapnel damage).
Historically accurate russian navy gunnery lol. Trying to kill a fishing boat, not hitting anything, next you tell me they thought it was a japanese torpedo boat.
Hey Stealth have you thought about doing a more in depth look in the games encylopedia? Enigma did a video shocasing all units but it was a little unsatisfying since he only showcased the first of each class, i would love to see like atleast half of the airlines available or how many of the kitty-hawks carriers they decided to put. I also didnt know that later versions of the game added a small twin engine cessna too
man i am so eager to try it out before i do plan on making a brakethough mission using only the refited ww2 era ships we have in game like the iowa class and the cleveland and gearing class i dont know if we have more and i hope they add the midway down the line

I loved the briefing message after you spent 29 minutes firing missiles and shooting 400 shells that said "NATO forces have detected the attack"... YOU THINK?! 😂
@Stealth17Gaming loved it, and I loved the fishing ship! You could write it as "NATO forces have finally overcome the shock you saw through their disguise..."
The scenario date is 1989, yes? Perhaps Vice President Dan Quayle 'helped' with the NATO mission planning? :) That might explain their choice of cargo ship.

The sampan was actually using Time Lord technology to transfer a large amount of cargo in as small of a ship as possible.
