Just a head's up about your CPU cooler - not sure if you solved this on your own or not, mine was giving me the "Warning Triangle" for like a week before I figured out that I had to REALLY push hard on the pins connecting the Corsair.. brick thingie to the actual CPU cooler. (Or rather, the cable coming into the brick, I mean.) Awesome setup! Running a 3090 myself, been considering an upgrade to an A6000 with the blackmagic but.. well. Same thing, m0b0 not mighty enough. Eventually I guess (:
I just ordered my virtual production machine and this issue came up in the design stage. This is the main reason why I went with the Threadripper Pro ( vs my original i9 choice) and the Asus WRX80 w/ WIFI+BT+10G motherboard....it doesn't matter where I put the Decklink card at now and I can add a second one if I need to.
@@JoshuaMKerr Pre-built. Because of the items I am putting into it there really wasn't much of a difference in pricing. And I have tons on my plate as it is.
thanks for your great work. If it is suitable for you, can you do everything from the beginning to the end, from the installation of the unreal to the camera tracking system, to the installation of equipment and recording in raw form as a training?
Looking really good. As also having the S1H, as my only camera. I would have to film a seperate greenscreen and add composite it instead, like you used to do 😁
One of these days I want to build out a virtual production setup, so this is great information. (If for no other reason to make sure my next computer has enough 16 lane slots.)
I had this issue with virtual sync with real world and I had to do the offset as well on the live link although I'm using the decklink 8k pro and Vive Mars, and after a month of research and trial and error I finally got it to almost unnoticeable. Another issue I had with the DeckLink 8k pro was getting the media plate to display turns out you need to have a specific configuration with the decklink so that it can have the fill & key options. I used OBS to troubleshoot it, that also took a while as there weren't any youtube videos of others with the issue I guess; anyways another great video
There was a delay with the virtual environment. When I would move my camera the v-set will move after a second. I actually did, three things... Set Genlock, used timecode to sync the tracker and camera and setup a provider in unreal once I did that it was better; the time code provider in unreal allows for you to configure an offset which is the same offset that is part of the live link; so I set mine to .12sec and it corrected the sync for me.@@JoshuaMKerr

Please make complete workflow on this. Does latency thing only work with blackmagic camera 4k (as Panasonic was delay) or red n other camera works fine too.. ?
All cameras work and can be adjusted through livelink. But blackmagic has a very low initial latency. I found the delay with the Panasonic very distracting and it made operating quite difficult.
I am looking to build but a VP workstation but have issues with the number of PCI lanes and the size of the 4090 GPU (triple slot) covering other slots. Is your 3080 a double slot card? Have you managed to get the deck link card working ok, whichs slots are they in? Im concerned that I might only be able to access the bottom slot and that it will be running at 4x pci when the deck link cards requires 8 lanes. Any help advice greatly appreciated
Im still not great at this stuff. The decklink needed an 8x or 16x pcie and I got it working on the new motherboard. 3hat do you mean by tripple or double slot. Im not certain.
Why didn't you kept the cpu/nvme/ram/anything that isn't the motherboard, and just buy a socket compatible motherboard that have two pcie 4lane output ? Or is it your cpu that isn't compatible with two pcie like that ?
It is fun and stressful being on the bleeding edge! Thank you for sharing your experiences as you go there! 👏👏👏
No worries, I started filming this one back in Feb haha

Oh yeah it does that from time to time but if I give it a little jiggle it's alright.
One day I'll upgrade my GPU but I'm stuck on a 3080 for now.
Awesome!
Thanks for the content! Appreciate your effort and tutorials (:
Thanks for your comment. It's nice to meet new people
A 4090 is a much better upgrade if you’re using a Decklink, unless you really need 48gb VRAM.
I'm sure I'll get one eventually and at least I now have the slots for both.
I'm very intrigued with what you have shown here, Joshua!
Let me know if you have any questions.
@@JoshuaMKerr Will do...sort of just getting my head into the idea of what is possible.

I have a Deck Link that I have yet to install. The computer is on the way. I can't wait to see the full tutorial. Thanks!!!
I think it will likely just cover the unreal engine side of things but still useful if yiur getting one. What kind have you bought?

I think a course will be something I'll do at some point.
its crazy the extreme ideas you seem to pull off everyday
Thanks man. Months of work for a five minute video haha
Oh mannn the frustration of being so excited for a new toy arriving and realizing you need MORE hardware to use it. Been there many times
Tell me about it. It was such a long road but worth it.
Might be worth touching on genlock and timecode and its effect on sync with tracking/camera/Unreal
I will be :)

You can still do it live with the S1H as long as you don't mind a bit of lag.

Wow, thank you for saying.
thats pretty siick!!
Thanks
is that an black magic 2.5k or studio 4k camera >? and how are you liking it, im been eyeing a bmc 4 or 6 k for 1 year never pulled the trigger.
It's the old 2.5k camera. I just used it for the low latency in this video. I don't recommend vs. some newer cameras.
Hi Joshua, why You use DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G? DeckLink 8K Pro not suitable for this? Its cheaper... or some technical reason?
Im paying extra for the HDMI connectivity. That comes in handy every now and again.
What motherboard did you get? Did it have 2X 16x Lane PCI slots or 1X16 lanes 1X 8X lanes? Would be good to know the model for specs. Thanks :)

Hello,
Awesome explanations.
How do you get antilatency in to livelink? Cannot find anywhere how to do it.
It's via their FreeD server. I'd reach out to them on discord about it to be honest. It's so easy to use once you're set up.
@@JoshuaMKerr You mean "VRPN" or the FreeD server is something else?
@stiivaissw It's something else

Upgrading to a motherboard with two 16x slots (with 16x lanes) meant going up to a different chipset so I needed compatinble ram, cpu etc.
If you have to spend 300 on a new motherboard, you aren't going to buy an old one xD
Well that's the truth.
