Nice tips . Thanks.Mine isn't a great trip...yet I'd recommend you to add a strong rubber band too to every roll of cloth..it not only helps to compress further but helps to easily put them back in case they fall out of the cube by mistake 😂.

What about emergency instant food for unexpected situations (like those small ones just in case if you get stuck somewhere)
I never worry about wrinkles in clothes. I travel with an item that I call my travel iron, which is a small spray bottle that I can fill with water at my destination. Before I wear an item, I unfold it, hang it up, and spray the wrinkles with water from the spray bottle. When the water dries, the wrinkles are GONE.

So do I! Hanging next day clothes in the bathroom before an evening shower works wonders as well.
I do that too and it really works. Except that I don't take the bottle but just the spraying part and use any water bottle that I have with that.

I've been doing this too for over 25 years. I call it my environmentally conscious bachelor method of ironing. You don't need to bring it if you know for sure you'll have access to a hotel iron which usually has a water spray feature.
As a female I thought it was funny with the counting the amount of clothes. He like " do I really need two pairs of pants, no" here I sit " do I really need ten pairs of pants". 😂 But otherwise really awesome video, these are some wonderful tips!
Yes, you definitely need two or preferably more pairs of pants and shirts. One trip I did to Europe with some friends, her husband took 4 shorts and 4 shirts, his suitcase was only 1/4 full. As it was summer time he liked to have a clean shirt every day which meant every second to third day we were wasting valuable travel/sightseeing time always looking for a laundromat, then more time wasted waiting around for the washing cycles to finish.
I started to find packing easier when I stopped thinking how I could pack more clothes & started to think how I could take a smaller bag. Each time it gets easier & lighter. I take a case I can take on the plane with the same amount of clothes no matter how long I am away. I have a small microfibre towel, wash things through when I need to, roll tightly in the microfibre towel to remove water & hang to dry. It becomes a fun game to think of more hacks.
Always pack shoes in something else (a thin grocery bag works fine) to keep other items clean. Also, put socks, stockings or underwear inside shoes to help keep their shape. If you pack shoes together put them toe to heel to use least amount of space. Think about how you will be moving your suitcase. Put shoes on the bottom. The bottom is the side closest to the floor/ground when moving the longest distance with your suitcase.
When I pack, I'll lay out my undershirts to be rolled just like you did with your T-shirts, but I'll lay my underwear and socks (flat, not balled up like yours) on the undershirt and roll them into a single bundle.
Yes, the three items rolled together are bulkier, but it's super easy to pull one bundle out knowing you have your undershirt, underwear, and socks all in one. In your example, you have to rummage through your packing cube to pull out each individually.
What i like about my soft-sided bag is that it has two pockets accessible from the outside where i can put an umbrella and jacket where they're easy to grab without having to open the suitcase.
I know someone who does that exact same thing. Saves on their “getting ready for the day” time.
I love packing cubes. Not just for the way they keep my suitcase organized but for how useful they can be after I arrive. When I was traveling in France last year, we stayed in a lot of hotel rooms so tiny that having two suitcases out and open while we were getting ready for the day would have made an already cramped situation even more difficult. Packing cubes made it easy to partially unpack for my stay while still keeping my stuff contained so I wouldn’t have to completely repack my suitcase every time it was time to change hotels.
Put all your packing cubes in a pile.
That mass occupies space you could use to take other important items.
There are better ways to keep organized.
@@LAURABOHDAN you could say the same thing about the use of boxes in a storage closet Laura, but I don’t see anyone begrudging people to use of those to keep their spaces tidy. The space 3 of my packing cubes take up amounts to about 1 shirt. The value they give to me is worth way more than than being able to bring just one more shirt. As I said in the comment you replied to, packing cubes are more than just organizing inside my suitcase. They keep me organize when I unpack in the hotel room. I’m a budget traveler and tend to stay in tiny hotel rooms when I travel abroad, and keeping my stuff in the dresser or closet area is a lot more pleasant for me than continually dragging out my suitcase and competing for space on the bed. Packing cubes let me pull all of my clothes out together, while still keeping them compact, folded and contained so that I’m not repacking my suitcase from scratch every time I switch hotels.
@@LAURABOHDAN they don't take up that much space because -- flashlight -- you pack INTO them.... and also compression cubes actually make your items MUCH smaller.
@@Xia-hu Friendly tip. Take all your packing cubes and squish them together has hard as you can. That is the volume you loose by using them. I squish down s lot items with thin, strong produce bags.
I am not against squishing but want the thinnest material which gets the job done.
@@xqueenfrostineyes. I don’t want to put my clothes text into a hotel dresser. If there aren’t enough hangers for me to hang everything, and there rarely are, then having the cubes is so handy. I get the thinnest ones I can from Kathmandu brand. By the way I only use carryon so I don’t use a huge bag like in this video.

We always pack our clothes in compression packing cubes. We have 4 packing cubes each in a variety of sizes. Put similar clothes in a packing cube for example T shirts together means you don't have to empty your suitcase to get a T shirt. Just remove the packing cube which contains all the T shirts. Organise all your clothes into packing cubes and you'll be amazed at how much space you save too.
Wow 14kg is a lot for a carry on suitcase. Here in Australia I think most of the airlines are 7kg! With checked luggage being maybe 20kg!
I was taught to pack socks inside the shoes. Not only does that space not go to waste, but also helps keep the shoes’ shape. And to place the heaviest items (also shoes, usually) at bottom of luggage or pack so lighter-weight items are less likely to crush/wrinkle. Make sense? Thanks for your great videos & tips.

I am pro packing cubes. It makes it so much easier to find things and keep it all organized. I fold, then roll my clothes. I use the 2 gallon baggies for bulky items to compress them down like a hoodie or sweatshirt. I pack my shoes along the edges of the suitcase. Takes up less room.
Packing cubes for the win. I’ve had a couple of TSA situations (yup I’m precheck) where my bag has been opened and rifled through. At least with the cubes, they just pull them out and I can Tetris them back in. No clothes tossed or needing to be folded again.
I have one for tops, bottoms, undergarments and dress clothes (if needed), so I rarely unpack.
Thank you for mentioning weight restrictions with some countries/airlines. I fly Emirates from Australia and the economy cabin bag allowance is just 7kg max and no extra 'personal item' ... just one cabin bag, max 7kg. I'm always envious of the US youtubers who have that extra personal bag.
wow that is just incredible for a non-cheap airline..... Wizzair in Europe allows for 10 kg personal item. You can also have a cabin bag (for extra payment)

I use Emirates regularly and though 7kg for carry on is correct I always have a tote bag on me as well.
@@Xia-hu That Wizzair weight limit is really generous for a cheap airline 😲. Even tradional airlines have smaller limits these days. Thanks for sharing that because many times the carry-on weight limit is a major factor in choosing the airline.

I have never used the packing cubes, but I have used the compression bags. I agree that rolling clothes does allow for more items to be placed in the carry-on luggage. I also utilize the space inside the shoes for placing small items, such as socks which can be put in one at a time instead of as a pair. Unless there is some extenuating circumstance, I never check luggage. However, there have been times when I was on a very crowded flight, and the airline was only allowing the personal item to be carried on the plane. All other carry-on luggage was being checked at the gate. The tip about carrying at least one change of clothes in the personal bag is a very good tip.
compression bags make clothes wrinkled. That was my experience when I travelled with them. Compression cubes on the other hand don't.
Good tips. Another reason to think about the weight is if you have to carry your suitcase or bag for a long distance or up a bunch of flights of stairs.

A few years ago I bought an inexpensive packing cube set of 10 cubes. They came in different colors, shapes, and sizes. They are very light and thin. And I can wash them in my washing machine.
I have other, more expensive, packing cubes but they are heavier and bulkier. Those are fine for a road trip when you have lots of room for luggage. Not so good for flying or taking a bus or train.
My carryons are soft sided and the handles divide the backs into thirds. To prevent wrinkles you want an even surface. My packing cube set came with 4 long and narrow cubes which fit perfectly between the handles. They are great for packing socks and underwear. Or even bladder protection pads for those who need them.
Other cubes are great for tops, skirts, or slacks. You can pack clothes by type or outfit depending on how long you stay in one place. Each cube can hold 2 to 3 outfits depending on your size or weight or the bulkiness of the clothes.
Thin packing cubes leave more room for the stuff you need!
If you pack carefully, you usually don't need compression cubes. They are useful for bulky sweaters or down jackets.
Thanks for the tips. Since I am as concerned with weight as with volume, packing cubes that compress clothes aren't that helpful to me. I do use large ziploc bags to organize my clothes with a separate one for shirts, underwear, bathing suits, etc. I can compress them a little but not so much that I ever have to worry about my case being overweight.
When you've reached your destination, and have convinced youself to throw out the stuff you know you don't need, then you know you've arrived at the art of packing light.

If you're travelling for more than a week, schedule a laundry day and this is sufficient...
(If it turns out to be really cold/hot/wet where you're going find a Recycled Clothing store at the location, to get a small amount of appropriate, extra clothing, then return it just before you leave)

I use 1 or 2 packing cubes, they are good for organizing your stuff but I find I can pack more by stuffing items in the corners, on the sides of the suitcase, in my shoes, etc...
Cabin luggage in Australia has a 7 kilo limit, that's your suitcase and personal item combined 😢

I've been rolling and using just one packing cube for a few years. Did 2 weeks in Europe, one carry-on, and came home with clothes I didn't wear. So every trip sees fewer clothes but more mix-and-match outfits. Basic black, white, navy, with some color pop lightweight shirt jackets, scarves, jewelry. I'm good with dressing up or down! And all comfortable. I've got my friends doing it too! I need a new suitcase, going to check out that brand. Thanks!
I recently discovered a free alternative for some of the items you are putting in packing cubes. Use an umbrella covering. It’s like a sausage casing where anything like rolled up T-shirt’s, socks, underwear etc. can fit into and be easily compressed. Better yet for dirty laundry you need to bring back home. Anything goes for what you put in since wrinkles in shirts, etc. are no longer a concern. You can use the standard long bag or in some places the short bags for small umbrellas. Museums tend to have bags more durable since you will need to carry them over a longer period of time.
I love all your tips. Packing cubes are the best invention and I always roll. I also use an "Away" carry on and I love it.

I agree about checking the weather. But, it's not enough to just check the weather forecast, but also check on the usual conditions of the destination. Some areas are known for sudden rain storms and temperature drops. I always pack a light rain jacket just in case.

I have travelled over 1.5 million miles in the last 30 years and disagree with your assertion that hardshell luggage with wheels is the best choice for travelers. First of all, soft-sided luggage is less likely to break and is easier to "stuff" into an overhead compartment. As a result of losing the wheels, you will have more packing space and be able to zip through international airports more quickly. I have used RedOxx luggage multiple times around the world and it looks almost brand new (I am not affiliated with the company). My experience has been that zippers fail most frequently, which is why I prefer RedOxx's large, beefy zippers (they have never failed me).

Take note of the weather! Weather at your departure and weather at you destination.
I'm flying to Turkey for two weeks on a holiday flight and the carry-on weight limit is ridiculous on those flights. Only 5kg and no personal item allowed. Usually you can get away with a small tote bag when you put flight snacks and other items that you might need on flight in there and not stuff it full. This time we did opt to have a shared suitcase with my friend because it makes things easier but I have once travelled to Egypt for two weeks with just that 5kg limit. That really required a lot of thinking and weighing individual objects on a kitchen scale 😅.
I usually pack with the mindset that what you need for a week, you can live with indefinitely as you can always do laundry one way or another. I think that a weeks worth of stuff is pretty easy to fit in a carry-on limit of 7-10kg but in winter it's a bit harder.

It’s best to use the army roll method. It minimised wrinkles and saves huge amounts of space. If you combine that with compression packing cubes, it has all the advantages of the army roll method, and also benefits for organisation.
I love my Away bigger carry on, but bought a Monos carry on in the regular size for some airlines.

Packing cubes are great if staying in one place and unpacking - unzip, fold flap under, stick bag in drawer , everything visible and organized.
I am definitely PRO packing cubes. I prefer the KonMari folding method as I find it works best for me. I use Biaggi packing cubes…they are a little pricier than most, but I prefer them over all the others that I have (and I have MANY!)

The one place you missed to put stuff....along the channels of the handle. I've used packing cubes after my neighbour saw his underware all over the conveyor belt in baggage reclaim. I put contact info in each one. Lol
We have never used packing cubes but we have used dry bags for years. They actually make for great compression bags! We are currently planning a 3 month Europe/Iceland/UK trip with each bring a Osprey 36L wheeled backpack and a decent sized sling bag. We've done a test run and they work great, we will just need to do laundry every now and then, we also wash socks and undies in the bathroom sinks at where we are staying!!
They make dry bags designed for washing laundry. They come in several sizes.
Thanks for sharing some great ideas! One item I’ve found to be versatile and save space are convertible pants. You get a pair of shorts and a pair of pants in one item. I always wear them with the bottoms for the flight as I find planes tend to be cool once in the air. Upon arrival to a hot destination, you just remove the bottoms which take up very little space in a backpack when rolled up. Do the reverse on the way home. They’re great if travelling between hot and cold climates!
I'm glad you apparently don't wear them with the legs on while at your destination. That screams "tourist!", which has all kinds of ramifications.

I’m a tour musician. I love packing cubes, because 1) organization; I know where everything is. Even when we’re in a city for a week long “sit”, I’ll keep my clothes in the packing cubes so I know what’s what. 2) keeps the clean separated from the dirty. What’s in the packing cube is clean, and what’s not in there has been used at least once. (If it’s ready for laundry, I have a laundry bag for the things that are too stinky for wear) 3) It’s modular. Once the actual “packing” starts, it just goes into the suitcase like a game of Tetris, and it makes me feel like packing goes much faster. They also kinda “stack” in my larger suitcase, and I can use the cubes as “padding” for the gear I also take on tour, like my soup mug.
I've had many different kinds of packing cubes (I travel a lot and people think its a good gift 🙄). My favorites are mesh, so I can see what 's inside snd they don't weigh much. What I dont like is that when I use them I end up with empty space around and between them. So I end up sticking socks there. Since they're loose they wander and I have to rummage for them when need them. Ditto with stuffing shoes with socks. Once youve taken the socks out to wear the shoes,those pesky socks get wanderlust.
The one thing I find easy to forget is that whatever you wear on the plane or carry in yoir personal item is available to wear at destination. Jackets & shoes are a no brainer, but its easy to forget that you dont need enough outfits to last between laundries actually IN THE SUITCASE

They occupy space for a single purpose. They are not as flexible in the suitcase as single items.
Great video. The problem I see in the way you packed the first part of your carry on is that you don’t use all the space right under your packing cubes. Also I wonder, don’t you guys bring your own slippers/ sandals with you? Don’t you need something to use in your hotel room? Personally I never enter a shower without a pair of my own sandals. Also here in Europe we’ ve always had weigh limitation for carry on bags, here in Greece it’s always been about 8kg, which is fine because we can put our own bags in the overhead bins without problems. But it’s an additional stress. Greeting to all from Rhodes in Greece.

I don't use the compression packing cubes as I am packing for the weight restrictions for the country I will be flying in. I am already over efficient packer and generally have plenty of room to add even more stuff, but I would be over the weight limit at that point.
14Kg is a HUGE allowance for carry-on! On most flights I've been on, they've only offered 10Kg, even as low as 7Kg!

Hi. You said you only travel with a carry on suitcase. I’ve been on flight where the allowed weight of the carry on is only 15 lbs. do check in your carry on in that situation or do you have a way around this?
I am ocd I have packing cubes for shirts one for pants one for pjs one for socks and undies etc so I can find everything
My "HARD SHELL" CARRY ON weighs 9 lbs, so putting clothing into increases it to 25 pounds, soft side carry on weighs a lot less.

just pack really light with mindset that you’ll buy it there if you need it (including clothes, toiletries, misc). plus anything you buy there is basically a souvenir.
Someone helping me pack for a move rolled my things, while what I packed was stacked, not rolled. The rolled things were horribly wrinkled. I never rolled anything after that.

Aha that answer my issue when I see only carry on videos , because every time I see them I am like, oh but what about the weight limit. Which airline has 14 kg limit? It's usually 10/15/20 kg for (paid) checked in and 5/7/10 for carry on
We had some Asia airlines that had that weight requirement. Like Air Asia, and vietjet. But never in the US have we had weight limits.
@@thetravelcoaches Lived in Asia for the past 10 years and fly all the time with those airlines. Never seen AirAsia have that requirement, 7kg carry on and 15 for paid check in except for some shorter routes where it's only 10 + you can upgrade 5 kg at a time if you pre pay. Vietjet do have t4 kg as a carry on limit but only for for some of their tickets to Oz and kazakhstan and in that case it's twice the normal limit so not a restraint.
i do love the idea of packing cubes! where can i normally buy them from without needing to order online, because currently i do not own any and would love to get some! my trip is in a week and i am going for three weeks and i need some packing cubes! love the channel, you've helped me a lot with learning how to travel like a pro!
if you live in Europe, try getting them in Decathlon

1:55 - The dimensions of that bag look too big for carry-on. I don't think many airlines will allow a case that size as carry-on. Also, many airlines have a weight limit for carry-on of only 7kg.
While I admire your packing plan, we're planning entirely different kinds of trips. Show me how you'll pack for a 10-15 day luxury cruise, and another 10 days visiting relatives.
I tried all that in a carryon and couldn't get anywhere close.

Same question! Mediterranean cruise mid-August with Iceland/Ireland cruise late August-early September. Then 9 days in Ireland. How does one cover 5 weeks of multiple climates in a carryon? I’ve got to figure it out since I have a regional European flight in between!
@@sonya2852We’re on a 9-day Mediterranean cruise with 3 days in Rome ahead of time next June. While it’s not the same length you’re looking at, I’m still planning a capsule wardrobe because I know we’ll wash clothes halfway through our trip. There are lots of resources to plan your wardrobe so you don’t overpack. Also, I learned that I packed too many “just in case” items for our trip to Paris last year. I’m learning to embrace the “less is more” mentality. Good luck to you and enjoy your 5 weeks of travel!
It works for a man that only wears tshirts & shorts, not so much for a woman’s dressier, varied wardrobe & accessories. I’ll check a bag & bring a carryon.

Compression cubes only compress the edges. Typically the max thickness remains the same as the middle of the cube has no compression.
If you are traveling the world you need clothes and shoes for different climates. I stay in places sometimes for a month so i need items that TSA not going to allow on plane. There's so good info here but its very bias basef on his experience. I hate paying baggage fees etc but i want to be comfortable so for now ill keep dragging my suitcase around the world one more time.

The way I squeeze the most clothes into the away bag is by putting them as flattened as possible and as unfolded as possible. I find that squeezes more in than packing cubes. Not very minimalist approach though 😂
Had to laugh when he said some Asian airlines have carryon weight restriction of 14kg - traveling Australia to Bali the carryon weight restriction is 7kg and now your personal item is part of that weight allowance.

Your packing tips were great, especially for the new or infrequent traveler. But, what is always missing from the myriad of packing, folding, rolling, cube videos, is that unless you are throwing your clothes away, you have to repack all the dirty clothes back the same way. The tricks and tips are wonderful, but the time it takes to fold, roll stuff socks into shoes, etc., is so annoying versus a checked bag with a dirty laundry bag upon return. Plus if u r going somewhere u might want to bring home souvenirs, good luck having any more space for them.

You don't need hard shell as hard shell weighs too much. I'm not wasting over 2kg for a suitcase when your hand luggage allowance is 7-7.5kg. Checked baqggage for some airlines is 15kg.
For me the hint for efficient packing is to take less and wash more. For me packing cubes are just wasted weight and take up space. I like a soft side bag with pockets and dividers. Realize there is no perfect solution, just take less.

I prefer a hardshell suitcase that opens like a regular softside suitcase rather than clamshell. Easier to put on a luggage rack with just the lid open and propped against the wall. Need more space to open and use hardside clamshell.

damn, 14 kilos that's a lot. my long haul flight to Taiwan has a restriction of 7 kilos for the carry-on. And the personal item cannot exceed 32 Linear Inches.
Which airline company do you find has the smallest luggage allowance for the carry-on? And what bag would you recommend for it
I want to say Air Asia had the hardest restriction for carry on. They standard dimensions but had a max weight of 7kg which is like 15lbs. We ended up having to check our bags because of weight. As far as what bag to pack you almost need just a personal item or something that you can fit under the seat in front of you. It is nearly impossible to keep your bag under 15lbs
That’s my worry for aer Lingus flights between my 2 European cruises. I’m afraid of lost luggage though! And also a regional flight back to Ireland at the end of the cruises. I need my clothes! They also reflect 7kg max for carryon.
Air New Zealand were very strict a few years ago on carryon cabin luggage. On a transit stop on a long haul flight from the USA to Australia, they had a set of portable scales they were weighing transiting passengers cabin bags. They pinged me for $250+ excess cabin luggage.
When I used to check in my suitcase I always packed an extra pair of underwear a shirt and socks in case it got lost. Now I only use a backpack and a personal item. I try to pack like a minimalist.
Can you do a video to prove that rolling is better than the other methods? I still don’t quite believe the rolling method is the best way to go.
I agree that a video would be great. Personally I’ve found that the best folding/rolling/packing method is extremely dependent on the item and especially the fabric.
Yes i will try and do a more extensive review on one of my up coming trips to see how the clothes handle being folded or rolled. I will try to figure out if there is certain fabrics that handle better than others! thanks for watching❤️

@@SiXiS4 I did try and for some reason I like to stack similar items and fold.. then roll the extras in the empty spaces. He rolls and stuffs everything into a packable cube within an inch of its life.
Most of the time you still need to fold before you roll and it has a higher chance of having small wrinkles. I usually fold, but sometimes I have a dress that wrinkles easy. I place some items in the middle and wrap the dress around it, like a brick with rounded edges.

LOL 14kg is huge! Standard is 7kg - but China airlines are often 5kg
