RARE Japanese Lighter Restoration - Sarome Blue Bird Rocket Car
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 มี.ค. 2020
- Rare lighter restoration of a very cute rocket car lighter from Japan. Today I restore and repair a Japanese Sarome vintage lighter from the sixties. I Will make it fully functional and beautiful again.
This Cigarette lighter is from the late sixties and comes from a Japanese lighter brand named Sarome. It’s modeled after the rocket car from the 60’s who set the world record in ground speed in Bonneville Utah. It’s a cool collector object and you can get this lighter in many different colors and wheel combinations. I got mine from a subscriber from the U.S.
RESTORATION PROCESS
I started by adding WD40 rust remover because I thought I could drag out the lighter insert from the body of the car, but I was wrong. I was built together. After I demounted the lighter, I used my mini tumbler to clean all the small parts. I also used Electrolysis to clean up some minor parts.
I chose to sandblast the whole lighter body and painted it with black and red colors. The lighter did only come with 3 wheels, so I decided to create 4 new Alu wheels.

The ambient nature sounds and occasional animal sounds were interesting though
@@JasonJia11 I thought that was just in my head
Even the little clicking and clanking noises are satisfying.
I liked 👍👍👍
I can’t be the only one who was driven crazy by the constant buzzing of a fly in the background of the video
yes ;)
Yup I came to complain that.
When?
I kept thinking it was in my house 😂
the sound of the storm outside, man that's relaxing
I prefer this over lame elevator music any day lol
I was laying here and I closed my eyes and just listened and I had an out of body experience lol it sounds like Kansas in the spring/fall.
Don't matter if its real or sound effects I love it
Mixed with the fly lol

I love when he writes” just adding a little squeeze of wd40. “. Lol Soaks it. 😀
BigstackD Casting often writing this too, but in his case, it's really little squeeze
Just a little squeeze..... * half a can later finally stops *
It’s a submarine. He had to submerge that thing for sure 😂
i love how there isnt any annoying music but instead relaxing ambient sounds that make this video extremly more fun and enjoyable to watch.
ngl it gives me a certain sense of dread
12:02 thats a how to basic song
Except for the annoying fly sound it was nice.
Subtle, just like we like it
the fly sound was VERY enjoyable
The sound of storm and crickets in the background is so calming...
Yes
Plot twist: it wasn't even raining, he just added rain sounds to make it sound more suspenseful 😂

Did you actually believe it was real or are you just being ironic?
I love watching the restorations you do! The transformations are amazing; but I also enjoy the humor you inject. Thank you for the mesmerizing and entertaining good time.
Glad you like them!
Dear diary: Day 16 on quarantine . Bored as hell. Watched restoration of a lighter on TH-cam that was rusty as hell. Made in Japan ,if I’m not mistaken . Called a Samoan or something like that. Would never do something like that myself but was satisfying as hell to watch .
Hi David - I'm glad I could entertain you just a little bit and hopefully your quarantine will be over very soon. Stay safe :)
Me too, as per your, every word.
Under LOCKDOWN, as to the, CORONA VIRUS, watched this video, to the last.
Loved it, ABSOLUTELY.
It's pure, restorative skill, knowledge, expertise.
I am truly, HIGHLY impressed.
Thinking: I wish I could do that.
It's like day 59 for me
Kind of wish he recreated the sea blue color of the original. That’s what gave it it’s childlike quality
Totally agree, the original color was beautiful
Agreed! The new color scheme is not in lign with the Art Deco art style of the lighter.
I wish he'd used that fancy lathe to carve out another white phenolic (plastic) wheel but it's his disturbing toy and not mine
Yes, we just lost WW2, let's make commemorative lighters. Who was the market for this?
Original color was awesome ! 🤩
It’s amazing how this man takes something as simple as an old beat up lighter, and brings it back in such a nice way.
Nice editing skills too.
thank you so much :)
It was the best! I'd love a cool lighter that's restorated? Are they Super expensive (especially from you! ) or maybe under 50? The Japanese lighter and the wheels are incredible!!!
Sarome are a pretty exclusive make, very sought after, especially anything with age!
My dad used to sell quite a lot of them when he ran a tobacconists before retiring.
E essa musiquinha no final? Hahaha. Congratulations, you are the best!!!!
Sim haha escolhi o jato de areia durante o vídeo é muito prazeroso ver a sujeira sendo removida rs
Meteu um forrozim né?? Adorei
Botou um forrozinho no final .
Kkkk
It's nice video
sand blasting is kinda relaxing to watch, i dont know maybe its just me.
I can only imagine what it’s like to actually do it

It's always the best part of restoration videos for me.

@@AwesomeRestorations if you can, try Marvel Oil and/or PB Blaster. Both work great. Kroil is another one.

Could this be any more cathartic?!?!? The satisfaction of watching the transition, the low rumble of thunder in the background, the light buzz of the tools, no talking. I just can’t get enough!!!
P.S. I also love the slow methodical way you do everything and show us what’s happening and what you are thinking. Best film production ever.
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you so much :)
Editor: How many nature sound effects you want?
Awesome Restorations: *Yes*
So annoying these sounds.
I’ll gladly take nature sounds over music!

sound of storm, thunder ⛈ & chirping crickets add more beauty to the videos
Never been this satisfied every since i saw woody get restored from toy story 2
Same, but now I wish there was you story music in the background
Good job, but I would suggest painting things back into its original color when doing a restoration, it kinda preserves the thing's "identity"
Agreed
Same here.
Yeah the red and black looks nice, but something about that blue from before fit the piece much better in my opinion
And it wasn't just a simple blue colour.
That's the art of restoration. Removing the rust and stuff is one thing, but matching the original colour is a whole other thing much more precise.
I agree with others. Staying as close to original as possible retains the objects "life" and "personality". If only these objects could talk, I wonder what they've seen and witnessed.
That turned out really nice. It's amazing to me how you take it completely apart if every little tiny bit comes out and gets cleaned and then you remember how to put it all back together again... Much respect sir! Very well done, I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much 😊
@@AwesomeRestorations You are most welcome. 😊
Take notes, photos and video during the disassembly.

There's an occasional fly sound from the pile of dismembered bodies piled up in the corner that we never see.
He's too clean and tidy for that mess
I keep searching for that fly!( i assumed at first that it was something in my room)
My fav was the sound of the thunder.. We don't really have thunder where I come from. Miss it deeply...
