Groove Belt Concealed Carry Review From A Women's Perspective

  • Groove makes some awesome products, in fact they’re known for their rings. A lot of shooters enjoy wearing their rings because they don’t get in the way while their training. Groove has been advertising their belt as a concealed carry belt even though it doesn’t resemble ANY of the qualities we look for in a concealed carry belt. Go check out the video to hear my perspective.

    I bought one and can't say that I mind it. I knew it would have drawbacks, even if I wasn't considering the ones you mentioned, but I looked at it like a trade-off. My first "like" about it is simply that it doesn't look like your typical tacti-cool belt. It can be scrunched up, but you have to work at it. The buckle is thinner than other buckles, and I think the thickness is set by the magnets they use. They might not be able to get around that, but at the same time, the "ease of opening" you demonstrated is going to be something that doesn't factor in to most of your day-to-day living.
    I would have loved the Groove belt back in the day when I needed something for under my Sam Browne.
    Really impressive to see you can get that much gear under your sweater and it not bulge on you!

  • @RedDragonProtection

    I am so impressed that you mentioned self defense as the main problem with this belt. No one on TH-cam that I have found, has mentioned this one but. For me, that's a killer. I was going to buy this one for so many reasons. Thanks for pointing that out. I did think about the magnetic buckle as a potential problem.
    I noticed you do Jiujitsu, that's awesome. So, once again you impressed me with the self defense aspect, and that's what every day carry is about in the 1st place. Keep training....

    I've EDC'd a Groove belt with a P365 IWB at 3 O'clock for 2 years and have had no problems. I can't vouch for how it handles a full size pistol. I like it much more than my Kore belts, which are a bit too stiff and hardcore for a micro compact imo. For AIWB, I use a Constantine Carry belt, which is much more secure, but also not as comfortable as the Groove. I plan to switch between the two depending on how I feel like carrying.

    Out of all of the ads I've seen from Groove Life, I haven't once seen where they advertised the belt as a gun belt. Maybe I overlooked one. I post specifically about concealed carry on Instagram so concealed carry products are often advertised to me. The groove belt was advertised very specifically as a concealed carry belt to me. I have seen the add dozens of times. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this belt for the purpose of holding your pants up. It does that well. Love the company, my husband wears their rings, I'm aware that they have good customer service, I'm sure the guys who own the company are great dudes, but this product was advertised to me for the purpose of holding up a gun and sucks at that job.

    As someone who’s tried a wide variety of belts for EDC, I’d highly recommend KORE belts. One of my biggest pet peeves with belts is the buckle and the hole system which would never fit comfortably (either have to go one hole up or down thereby making it a little too loose or too tight) The KORE belts solve this issue with their awesome ratchet system and unique belt buckles which guarantees comfort and perfect fitting. They’re about $60-80 depending on which models you opt for. The belts are also extremely durable and while stiff it does offer a tad bit more forgiveness than a dedicated range belt. One last note is that the buckles are more normal/stylish looking so it doesn’t scream “I’m concealed carrying!!” and allows you to keep a lower profile.

I used it carrying a full size S&W m&p 2.0 9mm , zero issues and super comfortable, at about two years it lost some of its shape where I carried the gun in a sidecar holster, other than that super comfortable, I liked that it bends and stretched a little with me , just my two cents

      I must say we’ve never had anyone complain of the belt popping off. It’s not held together with magnets but 90 degree hooks. The magnets are simply there to easily align the hooks.
      I will also say the Groove belt works better for iwb than owb. The Groove belts was designed for all day comfort not military use. It’s stiff for sure but OWB can start to weigh it down.

    For a guy with no hips, this belt is very comfortable for me. I've considered the unintentional belt release in critical situations, but I feel like that may not be a practical concern as the belt needs to be pinched in a very specific area to disengage and that area is relatively small. It's an interesting point though, I'd be interested if some some people would test that in a real life scenario.

    I like my groove life belt. I wear it to the size of my hips and it stretches to accommodate my holster without adjustment, and the thing doesn't move. As far as worrying about combatives im a bouncer ive been in multiple fights where my belt did not move from where i put it, and infact its not come undone even once without me doing it. Maybe it isnt the stiffest belt i agree with that but it seems to do the trick, i havent had any issues drawing or reholstering the thing stays where its put. My body type is 6'5 semi chonky

    I use a slide belt survival belt with a cheaper buckle. Didn't need to spend $150 when really I wanted the belt. The footprint of the buckle is too wide for my appendix holster so I have to wear it one the side. That was getting annoying. I got the groove belt for that holster. The only problem I have is that adjusting is no where near as easy as slide belts. Other then that it works great for me.

    It is low profile buckle but it is LARGE and hard to get thru your belt loops and holster. Then it is not easy to adjust when you are wearing it. WHen you clip on your holster and want to snug the belt you have to undo it all and pull the straps which is hard. Then it flexes over and sags with my owb glock and sig setups.

    I've had mine for a month and never had any issues. First of all, put your buckle at the FRONT CENTER, not the side. Mine has never done undone and I wear it every day. I love how it flexes and isn't too stiff but holds my holster securely.

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is very common to set the buckle off center for appendix carry to eliminate bulk. Due to the shape of my holster at the time, and where the clips were, I could not physically place the buckle in the front because it was wider than the clips on my holster. Having the buckle come undone is NOT something I was saying would happen during everyday wear, which I would imagine is what you've been using it for, but that it would be more likely to manifest in a grappling situation. I'm sure it works for you, it didn't for me.

    I wear this belt for CCW, and I love it. The first day I wore it, I hated it and considered sending it back. But I gave it one more day, and I found it to be much more comfortable. It holds my G26 without bending or flopping over, on multiple style jeans including low rise and high rise. I found that the belt is more easily unlatched if it is not properly tightened. Overall, I find this belt to be the most comfortable, especially when driving/riding in the truck, because it does flex just a slight amount.

    Agree it is a failure as a firearms belt. Mine is so overly stretchy that u have to hold on to the belt firmly when you drawing your firearm or the holster rides way up (think bungee cord), fairly hard to adjust it right, cuts into my waist, rolls over with my full size rig, buckle too big for appendix. I give it 1 out of 10.

    I bought two of these just to give them a try along with a couple of belts of another brand. I didn't think they were too bad as far as being sturdy enough for a gun belt, at least with a lighter gun. It wasn't great but given the comfort level and low profile I think it could be worth the tradeoff compared to a heavier, sturdier belt. What I did find, however, was that it was rather cumbersome to adjust the belt, which I generally find myself doing fairly often, not just when I'm carrying and putting on or taking off my holster, but also just depending on which pants or shorts I'm wearing on a particular day. There is a bit of elasticity in the belt which at first I thought might be enough to make the difference between taking off and putting on my holster and gun, but it really isn't. I was needing to adjust it pretty often and it really isn't easy to do or to get just right. I did end up keeping one of the two because it is comfortable and low profile but I doubt I'll use it very often if at all for EDC.

    Interesting points. However if wearing the belt is uncomfortable and you not even wearing it the way it was designed to wear. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of it? The belt buckle is designed to be in the front. It’s common sense it’s probably not going to be comfortable lol.

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The buckle was so large that I physically could not wear it in the center in conjunction with the way my holster was designed. Wearing the belt buckle off center is fairly common for appendix carriers as it takes away from the bulk in the front being created by the holster and can aid in concealment. They are advertising it as a concealed carry belt, so I evaluated it in that context.

    I think that the ability - or lack thereof - to bend a gun belt is overrated. If we're talking about service belts - carriers - then yes. For EDC, I never found that to be a problem, and I carried full size steel 1911s and gen 3 S&Ws.
    What we want from an EDC belt is that it doesn't let the holster sag. Because if it does, one has to tighten it up a lot, and that's uncomfortable. I would imagine that a belt that can stretch will actually be bad from this perspective.

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya I would say that's definitely a personal preference thing. I didn't like that I could bend it, especially where my holster attached. The bending and the stretching made it feel more like a strong waistband instead of an actual belt. That could be why it felt so uncomfortable after a couple hours, because I had to tighten it down so much? Still not totally sure why it was so bad. I still prefer my Hybrid EDC over anything else I've tried, but I am currently trying another low profile option that seems fairly promising!

      I was looking at the Groove - which is how I'm here - as a present to a friend, but based in large part on your review I decided against it. I got him a "Supreme Appendix Black" from Netxbelt instead.
      For myself, I'm trying a very low profile and very inexpensive Wolf Tactical belt, one of those velcro solutions, and it's works surprisingly decent so far.
      But, I make (or sometimes adjust existing) my own holsters, which means they're bent exactly how I need for my personal shape. Which makes a big difference.

    I also wonder about the magnetic aspects, as I wear mag badges for building access on he job. These might cause the badge to fail or “de-mag” the code strip badges have on them or maybe credit card mag strip!!
    And I am around electrical sensors on machinery for work, these strong magnets can easily influence their reading which would be a disaster if it causes a machine to stop running if the belt magnet Falsely trigged a sensor.
    .
    And lastly how do airports allow these strong magnets on the plane?
    Their sensor might be impacted and so at TSA inspection they might not allow it on the plane.
    TSA does have a list of things not allowed on plane and strong magnets are one of them..

    Try the "Next Belt EDC". I bought the Grove Belt too thinking it may work for concealed carry at least with a small light weight gun like my G43, but was disappointed. It seems to be a good product, just not great for EDC. The Next Belt however is a great one for carry even with a G19 and 15 + 1. Its a 1 1/2" stiff belt and its a ratchet system so once get your gear in place you pull it tight, and it stays tight. I believe that they also have other belts that don't look so much like gun belts but are still listed as EDC belts.

      @@KingdomMan_Ray The main thing you want in a gun belt is that it doesn't bend from the top down. Especially if you're carrying the gun between 10-2 o'clock, it's nice to have something that is bendy length wise, but you don't want it to be able to bend when you pinch it form the top down :)

    this is all kind funny.. I would say the buckle is actually small, the belt is plenty stiff for some holsters.. yes not all of them. the most comfortable belt I have worn, ever. I guess this review is good for skinny women. And i'm sorry... the last concern you should have in a combative situation is your belt... that weapon should be drawn already. IMO, that's a sad complaint. BUT "to each his own".

    • @tessahbooth
      @tessahbooth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All a matter of opinion I suppose. Seems odd that having your belt come apart while defending your life, when you could otherwise choose something that stays put, seems like an odd decision to me, but you are correct, "to each his own." Additionally if you're grappling with someone it is likely because you weren't able to get your gun out and in the fight OR you're in the process of fighting over your gun. One of the ways you can keep your opponent from getting to your holstered gun is by pinning the gun, which I can imagine would be difficult if your belt was both stretchy and had come apart. If you find the review funny then I'm certain you can find plenty of other reviews that align with your feelings.

    • @huntnman
      @huntnman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tessahbooth I hear your perspective, I simply don’t agree. This belt is not “flimsily” and I still do not see how, in a real street fight, grapple, this belt will come apart. But regardless. Any reasonable holster is attached through your belt and to your pants, if somehow the buckle comes undone it would be of little consequence. I totally agree their marketing overplays the “it doesn’t flex” part, but the reality is it’s not sold as a carry belt. It’s sold as a belt that can be used to carry by some and in some situations, which is absolutely true. If you can’t handle some disagreement with saying “go to another channel” maybe you should turn off comments. People disagree it’s ok.

As far as the stiffness, the belt she is showing is a lot thicker than the belt I bought and received. I have had a few friends try and bend mine and it does not bend easily at all!! As for the buckle.. it is low profile and nothing “honking” about it! It is a good size and NOT easily undone by just twisting it.
