Hello Maangchi, don't mean to disturb, but for beginners learning Korean cooking/cuisine, sometimes we can only buy the ingredients Online. Usually they will sell Gochugaru in Flakes or even Powder form. IF we are a beginner and can buy only 1, which one do you recommend we buy the Flakes or the Powdered Gochugaru for Korean cooking?
I made this today! I had never had rice cake before...oh my gosh it's so delicious! I used the coin-shaped rice cake and some yellow potatoes, chopped small. My seasoning paste was tamari, gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, crushed garlic and ginger, black pepper, and green onion. It was incredible! I'm a vegetarian so I'm always looking for new stuff to make.
So often I think about adding potatoes to mine but I always chicken out and stick to the basics because it's awesome just the way it is,; however you have made me brave enough that I may add potatoes next time! 👍
I love the fact she’s still reacting to these videos! And the part with the fish where she said ‘be brave’ was so wholesome! I’m definitely gonna eat this today, thank you!
found this channel yesterday because of the Korean pancake video. Went to the asian market nearby and they had the rice cakes mega pack on sale. I immediately thought, hey that channel from yesterday must have a tutorial. The best decision ever!!
Maangchi! I made this today, I used higashimaru ramen stock powder with some chicken stock powder, I used thinly sliced pork, with diced king oyster mushrooms, and garlic chives and it turned out fantastic! I am addicted and better yet, my husband ate all of it, including the mushrooms and he usually doesn't like them!
Victoria Pham I used to live in Houston! :) There's a place on Long point and Gessner called SOJU House or Soju bang. They make the best spicy rice cakes! ^_^

Thank you for this recipe Maangchi!💕 I'm saving some for dinner. It's sad my husband can't eat it with me coz he can't handle spicy food, but your measurement is just the right spicyness for me! Haii madam, if to cook the winter melon recipe..
I'm preparing it rn lol
@@Maangchi i’m amazed that you’re still reading new comments, love u💖
I made this today! I had never had rice cake before...oh my gosh it's so delicious! I used the coin-shaped rice cake and some yellow potatoes, chopped small. My seasoning paste was tamari, gochujang, gochugaru, sesame oil, crushed garlic and ginger, black pepper, and green onion. It was incredible! I'm a vegetarian so I'm always looking for new stuff to make.
Anatexis yum!
So often I think about adding potatoes to mine but I always chicken out and stick to the basics because it's awesome just the way it is,; however you have made me brave enough that I may add potatoes next time! 👍
Hello is this recipe really spicy (++++) because my family and I can't eat really spicy food 😭😭
Melissa Huiying Use less pepper paste and flakes then. Or make non-spicy tteokbokki. www.maangchi.com/recipe/gungjungddeokbokki
I tried this recipe today, major success! Tastes no different from what I can get at restaurants and more to my liking in terms of spiciness
Welcome to my cooking channel!
Yours sounds great to me!
:D
Maangchi i really wanted to try spicy rice cakes but i live in houston, Texas :(
I really want to eat this now but I have the stomach flu :(
Victoria Pham I used to live in Houston! :) There's a place on Long point and Gessner called SOJU House or Soju bang. They make the best spicy rice cakes! ^_^
Hello Maangchi imonim! I just finished eating the 떡볶이 with my family that I made using your 떡 recipe ❤️. It turned out sooo good and my mom, who doesn't even like eating anything that I like, ate quite a lot and asked for more. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with the whole world and upgrading my skills in the kitchen ❤️. Stay safe ❤️.
I used this recipe but couldn't find any dried anchovis in my area besides the bucket they sell at the petstore. I used some plain maggi to season the broth and it came out tasting amazing. Thank you so much for these videos. I am a hobbycook and have been trying your recipes since lockdown n°1. I can't tell you how happy i get from watching you cook delicious food. Kisses from Belgium 🇧🇪
I followed the recipe and my bf absolutely love it, thank you! 😆

Maangchi your recipes will be the best and you are very gentle while teaching
Made this today but used noodles as I didn’t have rice cakes. It’s sooooo good! I added a little cheese and it was still good.
Ooohhh, I got a personal like from Maangchi!! So honoured! 🥰❤️
are anchovies necessary.
When I first got interested in cooking Korean, there was nothing available for an American - no cookbooks in English, nothing. But now thanks to the internet and people like you, I cook wonderful Korean food which doesn't completely suck. You are a treasure, please don't ever stop. Maangchi for President!

Thank you Maangchi-sshi. Love your videos so much because you explain the details behind every steps. And you are so sweet also😊❤ hope you're in good health during this quarantine period.
Thank you so much! 😷
@@Maangchi 😊😍❤ most welcome
Thank you for this recipe Maangchi!💕 I'm saving some for dinner. It's sad my husband can't eat it with me coz he can't handle spicy food, but your measurement is just the right spicyness for me! I added ramyeon noodles and lobster balls, I was in heaven while eating!🤤 This is exactly the taste I crave for when I see actors in kdrama eating teokbokki!💕 Now, i need a sweet dessert! 🤤
Adding ramyeon noodles sounds great. There is another version non-spicy tteokbokki. Your husband may be interested in it. th-cam.com/video/w_GBd5YJtFU/w-d-xo.html
@@MaangchiOh thank you!!! Yes, this is it for my "king" 😆 I'll definitely make this royal version for him!

Yahoooo
I have always wondered how to use dried anchovies, when I saw them in Asian markets. I tried your stock making method and loved it! (P.S. I like it better than Japanese fashion of making stock.)
Thank you for your wonderful show. I have seen many episodes and have been inspired. Thanks again, from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
I am from an Arab country, specifically Yemen, and I am fond of Korean food, so I am grateful that I found your channel. You explain everything simply. You are really a creative chef. I opened a project to cook Korean food thanks to your recipes. Thank you very much and I love you💜
I made this my for my friends that came over and they loved it! I am pretty proud of my self because this is my first time making this,Thank you so much 😊
Awesome!

Made it for the first time today and I was blown away! I love all of your recipes and watching you cook.
I've just ordered your cookbook and I can't wait to try all the recipes!
Thank you soooo much!
👍Thank you very much!
we finally made this today after years of watching maangchi's recipe of tteokbokki but we didn't have kelp and anchovy so we used dried shiitake mushrooms and vegetable scraps and it tasted delicious. Thank you for inspiring me maangchi ❤️
I made this 5 years ago following your recipe on your website for my mom. She was amazed that I was able to make it better than the restaurants. Will always be my favorite recipe to make. I'd never thanked you, but better late than never right? :) Thank you Maanghi!!
Of course! : )
@@Maangchi omg I just remembered the first time I made this I followed a recipe to make homemade rice flour. I thought it was a recipe on your page but I can't find it. That process only took about a day and a half to make :P Just that first one though. Every time after I used packaged dumplings or purchased the rice flour. Thank you again!
What brand of hot pepper flakes are you using?
Leeen Tamala I use taekyung red pepper powder
Someone submitted Chinese caption this morning! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this recepi! My husband (Korean) really loves this dish, but I always failed while trying to make it. I will try again following your recepi :)
Update: He loved it!
I'm really glad that you mentioned the texture of the rice cakes, I've always been curious! It's difficult to find them where I live, so I haven't been able to try it for myself.
I'm moving in with a friend of mine soon who's half korean and half italian, and she loves tteokbokki, I think I'd like to make this for her some day!
I used to watch you with mom years ago! The recipe are pretty simple and it tasted amazing!👍🏻 I came back here for nostalgia and I can't wait to do this again after buying the ingredients. 😆
Welcome back! Good luck with your Korean cooking!
Thanks for this recipe! It's one of the best things I've made! Much appreciated!

hi maangchi
👏 Thank you very much! I'm fine and healthy! : )
If you don't mind, what was the mistake you made to make it come out so watery?
@@andyj3046 Probably didn't cook long enough so the water didn't evaporate
I made Tteokbokki today following your recipe and it tasted awesome. I added some cheese as garnish and sesame seeds as garnish for instagram photos and they were great. Thank you so much Maangchi. Now I can serve awesome Korean food to my family.
just made it for dinner. 😋this is the perfect fall-dish when you‘re craving something hot and spicy and it‘s so easy to make! i‘m addicted to this and so thankful you showed me how easy it is to make - like all of your recipes ♥️
I love that she always tries to include alternatives for her vegetarian audiences! She said for this recipe we can use vegetable broth instead of anchovies, but I hope I am not being too adventurous if I try dried shiitake mushroom. I will have to update!
How'd it go?
My husband lived in Korea for a few years when he was a teenager. Tteokbokki was his favorite dish while there. I followed your instructions exactly, including the fish cake and egg. He was a very happy man! Thank you so much.
Made this today. My family loved it! The sauce was soo good! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. 🥰❤
