  • First start after build, If I look strung out, its because itd been a very very very long couple of days. Now its time to put a little break-in time on. After I get some kind of tuning going. if you see any smoke from the Hood its the header wrap, they all do that at first. This video is for me and my friends, so if you have some crap to spew, please just go hang yourself.

    Brian Crower - i did similar s/steel swirl polished valves - bronze guides - single springs - special guide seals and re done valve seats = that was big dollars .

    I got the long black off of someone on NASIOC, But I opened it up to check everything, Found that the timing belt was not running true, so I had to do a little filing on the block, easy fix, but if I hadnt done that, I could have scrapped the engine in the first ten mins of run time. It felt superb hearing that thing start up. Now its time to tune. this engine is able to make big HP. but until I do something with the trans, I only plan to fun low boost, and very mild tune. Maybe 300-350 Hp

    Bu the way.. Manley gapless forged pistons are only ones that dont chatter at all. I learned that adter i bought JE. You should still hear slight piston ticking sounds even when warm. My just started on 1st try too. On a cobb made e-tune. I dyno it in 2 days at surgeline. I got 1100 miles break in under 4k rpms with 15boost cut/5.5k rpm rev limiter

    Don't the smaller heads raise the static compression?

  • @justooln2
    @justooln2  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes it would, if you just slapped the ej2.0 heads on an ej2.5 block. You can get around this by putting thicker head gaskets, OR have the combustion chamber machined to match the larger bore, there are a few shops that know what they are doing. I do not recommend using head gaskets as spacers.

    Ok. To answer a few questions.
    I'm using a TD05/20G hybrid turbo.
    Equal length header, cat-less everything.
    900cc injector clinic. Injectors.
    The "knock" is piston slap. Weisco pistons. Once the engine is up to temp. It's a lot quieter. Still sounds like shit. But w injectors that size. You're always going to have noise.
    Honestly. The hardest thing is The tuning. I'm doing open source tune, 3rd gear data log pulls. 7k on the new build.
    Only issue so far was with the phenolic intak

    This metal noose is from cam lift ?

    • @justooln2
      @justooln2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean "noise"? The noise you hear on this startup is the billet pistons. they are noisy until they heat up.

  • @justooln2
    @justooln2  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the Ecu mapped the 272 cams don't lope very often, every once in awhile she lopes but only when it's at low idle, I mean 480-550 rpms. The heads ar standard usdm ej205, with the combustion chamber machined to match the 2.5 block. The machining lowers the compression ratio to a manageable stock Sti range. The ports have all been port matched as well as polished. Double spring valves w/ titanium retainers.

    Can't wait to get mine started. I know the cams are supposed to be 20 minutes above 2000rpm with non synthetic. What break in procedure did you have to do for the block and how quickly dos you go straight to a pro tune I'm in the process of finishing mine right now that's why I ask

    • @justooln2
      @justooln2  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I ran royal purple break in lube, and performed my break in procedure. I never did a "pro-tune" I data logged and tuned it myself. (dont recommend). If everything is tight and correct, I think 2k rpm is good over idle, but I dont run at only 2k. I feather up and down in the rpms a little. The biggest issue would think you might have is the afr. If you are dumping so much fuel that you are washing out the rings and contaminating the oil, well that is not something I would want to break in an engine with. Point being, Run for X period (short ish) then shut down and smell your oil, check for fuel.

    Don, good to know about the Phenolic spacers softening up. I am working on a very mildly tuned 2009 I plan on leaving the motor stock in, but had considered adding mild 256 cams in rather than upgrading the VF52 turbo. With a 256 I can run stock springs and my tune will accommodate it. Would you add cams or a bigger turbo based on blowing up your motor and rebuilding?

      Marlon Dueck never ran on a strip nor did I take it to a dyno.
      I ran it on the low side of build at 8500 rpm w around 450 hp.
      I built it to hold 600 at 9k rotatiums. I build stuff to my desire. Not really measuring pecker length.

      Mr Love's Garage man that's sweet , what kind of oil pump did u run to meet the needs of oil pressure for hi rpms ? I'm wondering cause I'm also doing a hybrid swap , with forged bottom end and upgrading the whole 2.0 valve train and matching it to the 2.5 bore

    • @justooln2
      @justooln2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly don't remember. Any time i have the bottom end open on any engine, I change and upgrade the oil pump. either higher pressure, or higher volume. According the what that build needs. I will be building an LQ4 to NA 500 hp for my 53 truck I am currently building as a daily driver / custom rod.

  • @justooln2
    @justooln2  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm at 8000 miles now, I had to pull the oil pan and replace the gasket. I removed the phenolic spacers between the intake and tgvs. The phenolic softened and caused massive vac/boost leaks. I do have something going on with the oil pressure now though, I think it might be with the turbo though.
