At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

I loved how they highlighted KIA's brave decision to use glass to increase visibility. I also have a car that uses glass and can heartily recommend it for visibiilty. It might be a KIA only feature though as I also have a KIA and cant be sure other manufacturers do the same thing.

I had the exact same car as in this review. It was a company lease and I found it performed and handled really good. Can report it had no issues for the 3 years apart from the infotainment display going randomly blank a few times. I'd recommend a Sportage to anyone who was after a reliable, well appointed and economical daily although just be careful getting in and out as the roofline is angled low - I've whacked my head several times getting in.

With one totally failed older car (timing chain) and one currently failing (power steering leak and increasingly worse oil leak) older car thrusting me into the ridiculous current car market over the past few months, I really appreciate this channel. It's such a good approach to this topic and so helpful, especially the "what goes wrong" segments. It's really helped me to make up my mind and avoid some total lemons, and that's even with some basic mechanical knowledge and idea of car manufacturers.
Adam is also basically the automotive Jimmy Rees/Jimmy Giggle. It's a great mix

I couldn't tell if this was going to be a review, movie/game/tv show trailer, pardoy of a car commercial at the start but it was kind of a mix of all of them and bloody funny too boot as well.
This has definitely given me something to mull over in terms of recommending buying one or not too someone even though I highly recommend they watch your videos to find out for themselves.
Good work on the video guys it was highly enjoyable to watch.

Have the 2014 2L with the GDI motor. Goes slightly better than friends QL model. Oil consumption about 2L per 15,000km but keep on top of and it's fine. Have continental tyres and it rides beautifully. Steering wheel is pure driver heaven. No rattles or squeaks after 9 years. They are just easy to live with and nice to drive

Great video and fair assessment. I own the 2020, SX Manual (2.0 litre Petrol). I bought it new. It’s been a very reliable and fun car to drive. It is no sports car. However, there is more than adequate power to do 110 km/hour on a motorway with ease. It drives very well up hills. I recommend the manual. The weak high beam is a direction problem, I think. When on high beam, the lights point upwards a little too much.

Great review, I have a 2019 Gt-line diesel which I chose over a Honda CR-V, and Toyota RAV4 due to it being an honest car for the price point by actually featuring full faced leather seats and more soft touch plastics and a decent quality carpet that’s not like velcro and easy to vacuum which I can’t say much for many of its rivals, yes the quality might not be immediately obvious in the sportage. Now for the negatives the seats could be more comfortable, and grip you a bit too much having to hop about in the seat to get comfortable and driving position too high (I’m 176cm) as I find the headroom lacking. It’s a nice car that’s a little more exciting that rivals but I do miss my 2007 Skoda Octavia that included features you take for granted. Oh and another thing that can go wrong on these is the clear coat can tend to fail on the boot spoiler.

I sold my 2016 diesel in September for a work ute and really miss that car. I put on over 200k of mostly highway kms. I often got into the high 5 l/100km fuel economy and it was the most fun I had in car since my misplaced youth driving swapped civics. The Kiama bends were a particular delight when throttling on mid corner to get the rear to come around. Only problems were early on when a the main fuel line popped off (dealer remarked the hose clamp had probably never been tightened from the factory and they even filled the tank which was a nice surprise) and then the turbo actuator failed at around ~150k. Also went through a couple of audio units under warranty and I was very happy with the dealer support. If Kia had a commercial vehicle I would likely still be driving one.

Hey, first of all thanks for the great review. I'm from Malaysia but I love watching these videos. They're really great and informative. Love the sarcasm too.
Anyway, if possible, could you do a review on the 3rd Gen Kia Sportage SL? Just the one before the QL. I'd like to know more about them. US complaints about Kias have really soured the online perception for Kias, but anywhere else in the world seems fine, most likely due to different manufacturing locations.
It'd be great for you to cover the Sportage SL too. They look great and I still see some on the road.

We own a 2019 S premium Sportage, one of the most reliable cars we've owned. Other than a brake light and the mentioned recalls, it has never missed a beat. Averages around 7.4 L/100. It's not the most powerful thing on the road, but it's not meant to be, plots along nicely and very quiet inside.

I have a 2016 Diesel GT-LIne and love it. 50K kms when I bought it and 80K now. Economical, drives well and really comfortable. Taken it off road a few times on trails and around pine plantations, heaps of fun..
The Climate control has stopped working properly but still works manually for some reason.
Sun roof wouldn't shut once but it think it was because of an old battery, replaced it and no issues since but it does move slowly. I noticed the battery dying as it was a bit harder to start during winter and the trip meters reset on those occasions...
Infotainment has rebooted a couple of times, comes back and works, bonus..

I bought a DL Platnium diesel brand new and ran flawlessly for the 5 years I owned it (140k when traded in).
It returned 7.5lt per 100km on a average. Once a month it would be driven from Lysterfield to Portland Victoria and it would use 4.2 lt per 100k.
I'm 197cm short and it's one of the most conformable cars I've driven with no back pain what so ever cmpared to the Comodore, Rav4 and Hilux I had as company cars and I would have to get out and stretch after an hour of driving.

I have a 2020 Kia Sportage GTline petrol
    We love it ❤️
It has heaps of equipment and hasn't missed a beat
    I've owned
    HX Kingswood
    89 Celica
    02 Statesman V8
    15 Mazda2
The Kia is easily the best family car I've had, and has great headlights, parking sensors, reverse camera, etc
    Do recommend
*It is using some oil - which isn't my preference, given the Celica didn't really use much oil even with many more kms
I specifically chose this over the Hyundai Tucson for four reasons:
    1. Larger non turbo engine
    2. Conventional auto, not DCT
    3. Less conservative styling; handsome and bold
    4. Longer 7 year warranty, not 5

I purchased a 2020 SX+ model used for $30K a year ago logging 10k kms to current 40k kms. A nice car to drive and reliable. Easy parking as it is actually 10cm shorter than my trade - a 2017 Cerato sedan. This model has a good suite of safety features. No issues except for intermittent exhaust noise when reversing and at low revs. Would be interested if anyone else has experienced the exhaust noise. Will have it looked at service next month.

I have a 2019 Si Premium petrol 2L (no sunroof & has mechanically adjustable drivers seat). I’m 187cm tall and have heaps of headroom. My wife, who is 157cm says the front passengers seat (no height adjustment) is set too low for her but is great for me.
Standard Kumho tyres (225/55/18) are very average in the wet. Changed for Continental TC6’s in same size and much better now.
The engine is a bit lacklustre in hilly terrain and gearbox loves to go from 6th to 4th when 5th is a better, and less frenetic option. Shifting manually by sliding t bar to the right fixes that. In the city it all works well enough.
The only complaint, and it’s very specific to someone with large feet (size 13US) is there’s a piece of unpainted steel under the dash and above the brake pedal that catches on the toe of some shoes and makes braking tricky. Dealer said there was nothing they could do about it.
In almost 4 years and 42,000km of ownership it has been faultless and drives the same as new with no rattles or squeaks.

Currently waiting for my dealer who is going to replace the aircon compressor in my 2016 Sportage 2.4l petrol. That's a disappointingly short life span for an aircon compressor, but pleasing that it will be replaced under warranty.
Prior to this, not a single thing had ever gone wrong in 6 and a half years, and 90,000kms.

    I have a late 2018 1.6 T-GI GT-LineS AWD in the UK, just turned 38,500 miles/62,000 km.
Great car for family life and when the rear seats are folded flat, it makes for a great hauler too. I like the more raised driving position and being the exact same height as our illustrious host of ReDriven, I fit in it easily, loads of adjustment in the seat and good for bad backs! Only gripe for driving position is, my car has the panoramic sunroof and with the driver seat in the lowest position I can feel my head brush on the A/B pillar and the roof lining.
Personally I really like the looks of these (biased oppinion), especially the GT-Line(S), but the 19" rims make it pretty costly to find a set of decent all-seaon tyres. I Replaced the Continental's that came with the car for Bridgestones and looking to replace them again after ~15,000 miles. I need to replace the brake discs and pads front and rear now, think they have worn excessively due to using the adaptive cruise a lot on A-Roads in Scotland.
Fuel economy for me isn't great, averaging around 26/27 MPG but we live down a relatively quick B-Road then on to a dual carriageway after which is is mainly in-town driving and all-season tyres. Sometimes my inner rally driver gets the better of me and I daringly press the Sport button for slightly sharper throttle response and holding on to gears, only to see my fuel economy drop and I switch back to boring driving mode.
Looking to put a warranty claim in for the Steering Wheel leather as it seems to have worn excessively and the eHandbrake switch seems to need an awful lot of force to apply, will see what the outcome of that is.
All-in-all, great car and has been fairly reliable for me in the past 18 months of ownership. This is my second Sportage and maybe once I get used to the looks of the new one, may upgrade to one in the future.
Happy to help with any questions anyone might have.

I have a 2016 turbo diesel Sportage and I've been very happy with it. When I first got it a year ago I found the head rest uncomfortable compared to my previous car. It seems like Kias have the head rest pushed forward to prevent whiplash in accidents. It took a month or so to get used to it. Two irks are to do with the entertainment system. At random when you start the car it forgets if the radio was on or off and what volume was set and what station it was set to. So turns the radio on at high volume to a non-station hitting you with a loud burst of static. The other issue is it shows you an "Accept" screen along with Kia's warning to look at the road not the Android Auto / Apple Auto system while driving - every single time you start the car. Aside from that its been great with good fuel economy.

The front paint is chipping, so I sport a bra. I have every luxury option available, and everything still works great. The sounds system is excellent. The seats are super comfortable.
The interior is super durable and still looks great.

A large percentage of vehicle buyers aren't enthusiasts.
When they shop for a vehicle they are more concerned about price features and warranty coverage than acceleration braking and handling.
    KIA fills the bill perfectly.
Cheap to buy with a lot of standard equipment with a good warranty.
Pretty reliable and cheap to maintain and insure.
They inspire about as much passion as a new refrigerator.
Just like the refrigerator that you can depend on to keep your food cold you can depend on the boring Sportage to fulfill your basic transportation needs

2016 turbo diesel AWD base model. Car has been flawlessly reliable & is always fun to drive. The diesel is a real gem with lots more grunt & torque than the petrol engine. Economy is fair for general running around and excellent on long trips. The only dislikes are the pathetic headlights and the really annoying nag screen at every engine start. People who think Kias are cheap and nasty are always really impressed by how the car performs.

My daughter's Sportage 2015 engine just blew! She had it just 20 months. First signs was a complete drain of the oil after she noticed knocking sounds from the engine, I added oil and got a service. 2 months after that service, it blew with no oil in t he sump again! I was told to check the oil now and again but did not expect it to lose 5 litres in TWO Months! The thing is it did not blow smoke and there are no oil drips where she parks. Now what do we do? Kia tells me to tow it to a dealership for assessment but I know what the out come will be so far out of warranty. I'm taking to the dealership where I bought and serviced it but they will take no responsibility, a week later no news! Out of warranty and this engine, the G4NC was not one of the earlier known engines to fail but sounds like exactly the same symptoms. To repair, even with a 100k, 2nd hand engine would be around $7500! Never again will I buy a KIA!

We bought an Escape 2019 over the Sportage. Do I regret it, nope, not with the Kia's slug of a motor (why do Kia still stick underpowered engines in their cars??? Rio is another example). The only thing I would prefer over the Escape is an extended wheel base version like the new Sportage and Tuscon offer......

While these cars are excellent value for money on equipment, I am just very glad, they didn't become popular up in Northern Europe. I personally absolutely hate driving behind or next to one of these because they have placed the turn signals in the most bizarre (dumb) location on the rear. I imagine it might be a minor thing for most if not everyone else, but for some reason that fact probably contributed significantly in me choosing a different car. I am also not a fan of the looks.

Feel like this should have emphasized staying away from the 2.4 model more... The problems with it were not limited to the US like they claim and there's a lawsuit underway in Australia. Stick to the Nu MPI (2.0) and R series diesels and you're good.
