Got a 2019 Cerato GT in mid 2024, had about 39,000Kms on the clock.
Just passed 50,000 kms and it is holding up very well. Took me a week to get used to the suspension, have zero complaints now. Feels so confident in the corners.
I would highly recommend anyone to change the oil every 5,000kms. Since it does not hold a lot of oil, it circulates a lot and gets dark reasonably quickly.
Use your manual driving habits with this DCT, it will feel much more comfortable to drive and will prevent the clutch packs from wearing prematurely. DO NOT ride the brakes when moving in slow traffic. Come to a full stop, then start moving again without pressing the brakes.
Apart from that, its the best warm hatch/sedan on the market for the price.

I had a 2014 Cerato. It had 176K on it, never missed a beat. Great city/run around car, cheap to run, cheap to service. Very happy with it.

I bought a 2018 KIA Cerato S MY18 manual with a GDI engine. It has traveled through South Australia, Canberra, New South Wales, and countless times across Gippsland, the Great Ocean Road, and regional towns all over Victoria. I’ve clocked 215,000 kilometers so far in 6 years with routine maintenance. My Cerato has been my reliable, faithful work vehicle and our family holiday getaway car. I've already gotten so much out of it, but I’ll continue servicing it every 5,000 miles and will keep driving it until it reaches mileage impossible. My Cerato still drives like a new car. KIA, thank you for making a safe, reliable car for families and for building a network of dealers customers can trust to service their cars. I hope KIA continues building the best value cars that will last 1 million miles.

I bought the facelifted model new in 22 primarily because it comes with basically every feature you could ask for. In 2022, to get a similar level of equipment you had to pay 10-20k more depending on the brand and even when fully optioning those alternatives it was likely even those were missing SOMETHING (like a sunroof, or ventilated seats, or the lane follow assist, or gutless engines etc). Honestly I haven't had any real issues/concerns or drivability issues with the DCT except with reversing up hills - that's an entirely separate skill you'll have to learn with these...
Even now, I still love the car. It'll happily challenge a P plater in a Falcon/Aurion/VF Commodore in traffic light drags and the handling is fantastic, not just for the class but in general. On a spirited group drive on a windy road, you'll keep pace with much more expensive vehicles. No, it won't lead the pack but it's more than capable enough to have fun with them. (with the ventilated seats on)

I quote Jim from the Kia Pro_cee'd GT video from about 2 years ago -
"The G4FJ.. the 1.6 litre engine in these is a stout little unit with no, one common expensive serious problem that causes catastrophic engine failures... we've never had to refer one back to the dealership for any warranty repairs."
That is the EXACT same engine that is in the Cerato GT, yet you both have a very different outlook on it? Its not like the 1.6 is a new motor either so the last 2 years have made much difference on its reputation, its been out since the Veloster Turbo came out.
Whilst I really like this channel, I think you guys have a lot of inconsistencies and biases that need to be addressed to grow further, just some constructive feedback:) Keep up the good work!

On a serious note people really should pay attention to safety (most importantly the crashworthiness!) even when buying used cars, particularly for family cars intended to carry children. Should make a reference to test results from IIHS if model is available for both markets. Sadly ANCAP is not adequate if you compare the test criteria..

Have to comment on this. In 2014 I bought new a Proceed GT with the 1.6 turbo GDI. The car now has 250000km on the odometer and just keeps on keeping on. It’s in everyday good distance commute scenarios of around 90km per throw but it has been consistently dealer serviced on time at 7500km as per service schedule. My other half drives it…I have had other Kia four-cylinder cars and none have ever let me down. My current ride is the Stinger GT 3.3 twin turbo and that car is at 216000km dealer serviced every 10k and again, no engine issues whatsoever, so this vlog somewhat surprised me….

I had a 2021 i30 N Line which ofc is platform and drivetrain shared with the Cerato. The Car was absolutely wonderful to drive, had it for 3 years and 36,000km with no issues. Reminded me a lot of a MK5/6 GTI however a little more subtle. The DCT at town speed was defs the biggest issue but still had no genuine problems for my whole ownership. Great value for money hot hatches these 2.

Former 2020 GT owner here… emphasis on former.
This was probably one of the best cars I’ve ever driven and owned for the price you pay for it. Severely underrated and incredibly competent within its class…
However - if you’re a proper enthusiast or rev-head like me, it will leave you wanting more. It’s deceptively quick for what it is, and with some basic modifications, I managed to keep up with much faster cars on track with it (i30N, Mustangs, 135i Msports, etc), so in that sense it is a bit of a sleeper… Yet don’t let that fool you. It’s still not a sports car, so while it might initially feel like you’re getting a bit of a best of both worlds scenario here, it’s definitely more leaning towards the “regular commuter car that just happens to be quick” side of things than the “sports car that happens to be comfortable and practical” that something like a Golf GTi gets right.
I loved so much about mine when I had it, but I don’t miss it.

    • @joytech23
      @joytech23 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@CallumCalzar I think it's best described as a "warm hatch" that doesn't quite meet the standards of a hot hatch. It's good all-around but it isn't Kia's version of a Golf GTI. Driving back-to-back, they are very different experiences.
I'd say it's a good gateway car given the value - enjoy a taste of the experience and upgrade to something more serious when you can afford to.

Hi guys, I get the feeling that you don’t know that the cerato 2.0 isn’t the same engine in Hyundai’s (and perhaps previous cerato too?).
It’s a port injected engine, and is running an Atkinson cycle (or if the normal cars are that, then it’s Otto - I forget now).
It doesn’t get the carbon-caused issues that a lot of Kia/Hyundai 2.0 engines are infamous for.
In 6 speed auto, 2.0l models, these are a true corolla alternative. Uninspiring, but reliable and practical.

@@stevearthur1580 there's none to avoid as a rule.
like all cars, buy based on service records and apparent condition.
a well looked after interior, lack of scratches on the wheels, brand name tyres, and a fully serviced car (meaning every year and always within the 10,000km/15,000km interval), gives you the best chance of a smooth INITIAL ownership experience on a used car.
all used cars have the potential to have issues - that's likely why the last owner sold it after all! factor that into your budget.
if you can afford to buy a car that has at least 6mths of factory warranty left (and ensured it's been fully serviced so the warranty is still valid!!!!), that's the best bet as a used buyer.
and this BD generation of Cerato does not use the theta 2 (direct injection) engines, for the 2.0 litre.

There are zillions of 1st gen Rondo's on the road and the still look great. I have a MY18 Kia Cerato GT Hatchback (Built in December 2018 n Registered to Dealership in Feb 2019) and it was a demo with 2000kms when i got it in April 2019.
Current it has 295,000kms on it and has been serviced directly from my local Kia with no issues. I have done the early servicing from a none Kia Dealership but if its something other then a oil change they have all said "I don't know how to do this part. Should take it to Kia to do it" also I have tried to do some things like spark plug but if their not Kia parts it dies or gives the car many issues after about 10k-20k km's. This is not a car you "Do it yourself" and have worked on all 5 cars I have owned instead of mechanics.
It has had 2x Wheel Bearings replaced under warranty and a new engine under warranty due to a gasket failure that made the engine burn too much oil and cooked some rod bearings.
Other then that I have made zero modifications to it and barely condition my leather seats and leather steering wheel and have not had any kind of cuts into the leather or peels but just crows feet.
I would recommend this car to anyone because its a fun and speedy car ( Not so much the 2.0L ) The suspension is turned for having fun and can understand the firm ride but its a cheaper car with all the good tech for the price you can not get from any other. I got this car for 29k and the cheapest car close to it for new or demo was 36k and that was the Ford Focus RS trim and Hyundai i30 SR. But test driving all 3 this car has to be the best and most fun out of the 3.
I am almost 300,000kms and will be looking at having it for much longer.

I was close to getting a GT but went with the MK8 Golf R-Line. This thing is quick for 150kw and has features even the Golf doesn’t have yet costs more. I really like how Kia offers two options for a louder exhaust as part of their genuine accessories too. I found the steering really firm when I took it on a test drive, and the JBL sound system wasn’t the best. Also I haven’t noticed any rattles in my Golf, having done over 20,000kms.

MY20 sedan GT owner. My only concerns when I purchased mine was the DCT and potential engine carbon build up due to the direct injection. I accepted the risk of a the DCT because I don't have to drive in peak hour traffic so mines been fine (touch wood) apart from the very occasional confusion it has. I also only put in 95 in an attempt to keep my injectors cleaner for longer. Few warranty items that have gotten fixed for free without any real hassle, more to come at my next service. To be fair, I would have probably been laughed at by dealerships if I brought any of these things up with my previous cars.

In the time I drove a base model Cerato, I found it to have a cheap and nasty interior compared to competitors (e.g. Mazda 3, i30, Civic). I also found the engine to be thrashy and intrusive and the driver assist technologies were extremely intrusive and counter-intuitive to turn off.
I have found other Kias (Stinger aside) to be very similar in this regard. Personally, it would be near the bottom of my list in this class.
