I have read several Crowley biographies, Kaczynski and Churton are the only ones worth reading. The rest are all B.S. ... Reading Crowley with an open mind will help one find answers, but bear in mind that Crowley didn't answer one's questions all in one place. I had to read all Crowley's nonfiction before I found where he said the True Will resides in the Unconscious Mind, and other tidbits of wisdom. ... Also, try to read Crowley's nonfiction in the order he wrote it. He did change his mind on some issues over time.
How can you practice Thelema and not have a relationship with AL? Are there really people like that? I just figured most people had read it as extensively as I have. For me I have gone through it over and over, applying it to life in every facet, meditation on single lines, meditation on the Gods. This was one of the first things I did before I even considered myself a Thelemite. It took extensive work, and I didn't feel I understood chapter 3 properly for about four or five years. Liber AL IS Thelema. I've had several copies throughout my journey. There was my first copy which I burnt, my second copy which I worked with for a few years and gave as a gift that contained my work. I have one as a scroll, I have 2 study copies that I take notes on, I have my OTO issued special copy, I have it on my phone as a searchable document, and the full text copied and pasted in a journal. It's good you made this video for beginners, but it kind of baffled me that people make these mistakes. Thanks for your work.
Thelema and Crowley have been very influential but yes a lot of people treat it just as if it was chaos magic. Chaos magic has it's cool stuff but it is very much a different thing, and Thelema is a religious (and philosophical) worldview unlike chaos magic. Both have their syncretism but Thelema is within a belief system with defined goals, ethics, ideological components etc. Whereas chaos magic is from the ground up, constructed by the magician for their own goals. A Thelemite reading and citing from Crowley's texts is a different thing from a chaos magician, or other kinds of occultists doing the same, the relation and purpose is different.
I cannot disagree more with you! In fact, all my work about the Book of the Law is exactly to separate the message from the messenger, the artist from his art. "THELEMA" starts when Crowley dies.
