    The fellas at That Works give a brief historical explanation of war hammers as they create one of their own design. They show everything from architectural design elements to sculpture work all in one piece. War hammers are great blacksmithing projects as many technical techniques can be utilized and the designs are almost endless.
    Some may go for a A ZWEIHANDER SWORD, but a war hammer is much for our style!

    HERE'S AN IDEA: making a more historical & practical design weapons from ridiculous anime/manga/video games/fantasy weapons.
    For example: a fantasy giant sword is "redesign" into a better shape/design & weight ration like a proper historical greatsword. This could also be a change in the materials too for the purpose of making it more practical.

      Either way, you're dead. Armor was only a small protection from hammers and maces. They were designed to work against armored opponents.

      @@mailais3403 don't underestimate armor. Armorers knew that some guys used warhammers on the battlefield. There is room under the helmet between your head and the helmet. And the curve of the plate make it very difficult to land a proper hit. But of course, we shouldn't overestimate plate. It is not meant to render you invincible to anything. A well landed hit will hurt or disable you

    • @RoulicisThe
      @RoulicisThe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The problem with the hammers is that they don't attack the armor itself. When you hit an opponent with a hammer, you're basically throwing a lot of "Blunt Force" on him, and this Force (this Kinetic energy) has to go somewhere, and plate armor, while extremely good at deviating piercing and slashing weapons, is completely unable to absorb this type of attack.
      So what happens when you hit your opponent's head with a warhammer, goes like this :
      You may, or may not, bend the helmet, but it doesn't matter : the Impact gets through the armor as it's directly transmitted to his head. Basically, the armor may look fine, but you just broke his skull underneath the helmet with the Impact.
      Of course, this assume you can land a proper hit on said helmet, and that's why people were still using shields even with plate armor : better to have the shield tank the hammer blows for you than your helmet

    Badassery here. Though I dream of seeing a swordbreaker made, too. 😊

    Lighter weapon doesn't make more damage. It simply allows you to not expose yourself after overswings. (basically, it's just faster, nimbler)

    • @ahaugrud
      @ahaugrud 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simply making a weapon lighter definitely does not make it do more damage. But what he was trying to describe is the concept of 'pressure'. Pressure is determined by force divided by area. So you can increase pressure two ways: You can either increase the force (such as by increasing the weight for example), or you can decrease the area. So if you decrease the surface area of the weapon, while keeping the weight the same, it will exert more pressure when you hit things with it. On a similar note, you can make a weapon lighter, and still exert the same amount (or more) pressure, as long as you decrease the surface area along with it. That's why, with proper design, a lighter weapon can still rival a heavier weapon in terms of damage.
