  • Come inside of a veterans daily battle (my personal journey). It has not been mentally easy to transition out of the Navy, and I share what I struggle with the most. I share what I find most challenging about reintegration and open up about the unseen battles veterans fight every day.
This is my story, but it's a story shared by many. If you're a veteran or know someone who is, this video might resonate with you. Let's break the silence and start a conversation about the struggles of veterans and how we can support each other. Life doesn't end at the end of our career, but sometimes it sure feels like it does.

    Shae,
I just found this video, and think we may have been at the same command. Im sorry to hear your transition has been rough. Your feelings are valid and I had some of the same experiences. We all figure our transitions out differently and I hope you find a path that makes you happy. I have been out almost 4 years and it has been so much less stressful for me and thats where I have felt the most benefit. The "military" side of you will never leave, but you will find your way of balancing everything with your new life.

Thank you for your kind words. That’s cool if we’ve crossed paths before. I know it was for the best for my health. It’s so hard sometimes thinking about everything that I miss out on though. I really appreciate you reaching out.

I understand your struggle but from a different perspective from my own career. You will get over the “break up.” (Like breaking up with a boyfriend).
You are valid and know that you are going through the seven stages of grief. Those seven stages come and go in no particular order. If you still find yourself not able to move forward in a few months since it’s already been a year, I think CBT therapy is what I would do next. It will save so much time, believe me…I’ve been there.
Surrounding yourself with people that remind you of the past that you miss may also be a trigger so you may find it best to avoid that until you are past a certain point. It’s your time for self discovery, to heal, to also find fun with discovery as well. You got this, I know you will find it! Now go out there, ask questions on topics you find interesting and a new teacher will appear!

I really appreciate you and your kind words. I guess it’s just a matter of life transitions. Some days are good, some days are bad. Tried to get involved into new communities, which has definitely helped like you said. I think part of me will always miss the Navy.

Keep your head up, stay gold Shae, stay gold✊🏽❤️. I would’ve picked you up and had you dust off your shoulders and get back on track. What sucks for me is that I left a Navy that I felt was not as effective as it were when I was going through as a young Sailor in the 90’s. I had great mentors, big brothers/sisters, father figures and I’ve tried my best to reciprocate that to my upcoming leaders beneath me. You’ve done your part, more than I can say for the rest of our fellow Americans (1%). Now take the positive what you’ve learned from the Navy and put that to good use. Don’t forget about all the good times and great people you’ve met. And don’t ever think for one second that you are not appreciated! Stay gold Shae, stay gold✊🏽❤️

Means the whole world. I have heard that before - the Navy is not what it once was. You know exactly how I feel!!! Thank you for your kindness 🤍

If I may recommend a book: Faith Family & Flag, by Gen. Mukoyama. He shows how God can make great things happen in ways that we would never have thought possible

Thank you for the great video Shae! I just wanted to mention a possible silver lining. Navy service members are at significantly higher risk of cancer. The fact that you left, means you are no longer exposed to harmful chemicals and possibly radiation.☢️ Cheers to your new life! May you and your family be blessed. Stay strong sistah 🤙

Thank you for the beautiful perspective. It’s so unfortunate that service members give up so much just to be exposed to these toxic chemicals and environments. Each day is better and better ❤️‍🩹
