  • Taking out the Rome XL Pie Iron For it’s first meal. Making Monkey Bread at the camp site. Super easy to make and delicious!
    RECIPE
-The bread is Pillsbury Biscuits ( the small 5 pack tube ) cut into fourths.
-Place in a Ziplock Bag with 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1 tsp of ground cinnamon. Shake until all biscuits pieces are covered. I premixed the ingredients so all I had to do was add the biscuits at the campsite.
-Place in an oiled pie iron (I used the XL)
-Cook them up on the grate of the fire pit. Don’t place them in the coals or they will burn.
-Cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side and check to make sure they are a golden brown.

I would've never thought of doing this, looks awesome. Also I like how you told us what didn't work so we aren't tempted to speed it up and ruin it haha

Looks good. Wonder what it would be like if you used just Pillsbury cinnamon rolls.

hell yeah man i loved pie irons growing up and having a daughter thats at about that age i got us one to go camping with and needed some more ideas. done the typical pizza and pie fillings before this is def gonna have to be one to try. also seen your hashbrown, egg, bacon cheese mixture that looked amazing i was thinking of trying corned beef hash with en egg cracked in it i think thatd be awesome as well.

I love my Pie Irons too. I tried making Corned Beef and Hash into a breakfast dog using the Rome Brat cooker and it did not work out as planned. I like the idea of trying it in a regular pie iron with an egg. I might have to try that sometime. Thanks for watching and the comment.

I will be trying these this weekend... I think I will dip them in melted butter before rolling in cinnamon sugar.

    I want you to experiment.
    I have cook on wood.
Sometimes temperature become very high,so I used to remove pan from fire.
My experiment is you pass iron pie with stuff inside on high burning fire for three minutes, then turn it. Initially it takes time to heat.
After heating, remove and let it cool. Again reheat it on open fire for two minutes, turn each side.
    Remove it,let it cool.
Again pass on fire for one minute.
As iron will become hotter, reduce heating time to protect the food from burning.
Many electric appliance like appe maker also becomes hotter and burn food.
So for good cooking without burn we must play with high heat and no heat. No heat mean iron pie is hotter, food wil be cooked automatically because heat is trapped inside.
With time you will become expert.
    Jay bharat.

What is the ratio of the cinnamon and sugar?

Interesting that you did it above the flames. I've never not used hot coals. Is there a reason why you cooked it this way instead?

My first attempt I put the pie iron in the coals and ended up burning the bread. I went above the flames to get a little more control over the cooking temperature.
