I was 27 years old when the man I called my Dad died from an overdose on 10/31/2015. I fell to my knees and screamed damn you! Why didn't you listen to me? It's almost been 5 years and the pain Is still the same. I now have a 9 month old son and the love I already have for my son Is like nothing else I've ever experienced. I WILL raise my son to be a man and I'll be his hero and Superman. God Bless all of you!

I can kind of relate
My dad committed adultery and my mom remarried when I was 2. I always called my step-dad dad. My real dad left me without a trace. My step-dad died of suicide due to alcohol abuse 9/19/2015. The wierd part is I had a dream about that event happening. My real dad came back into the picture when I was 6. Me and him have still never been as close and get into constant arguments. The dad that felt like my dad, the one I could go to is gone and even 5 years later still hits me hard. I know when I have a kid what not to do. I’ve experienced many bad things with men in my life and I am not going to let my wife or child go through the same pain I did.
It’s not easy, the pain won’t ever go away. Keep having faith and pushing. You will come out stronger and wiser on the other side

But God had mercy on me and gave me another daddy here on Earth because he took mine took mine to heaven. He shined upon me knowing that this little girl needed the love of a daddy
I just lost my dad who was my very best friend March of 2020, I turn 18 in two days and this song makes me cry every time I listen to it. It's so hard to know that he won't be at my graduation, my wedding, or someday meet my kids. I would give everything and every bone in my body to have him see me grow up into the man he wanted me to be. I love him more than life itself and would give my life just to see him for 10 minutes!

My father left me and my mom and my 5 other brothers and sisters to join the army. He sent us letters every month. 3 years later my mom gets a letter in the mail that said that he had died for this country. That letter arrived on my birthday. I will never forget this day. I miss him so much. I miss my daddy. We had such great memorys. I will always remember me and him fishing and fixing the car. My mom got married 3 years later. I was mad at her. How could she marry another man, daddy was the only man u needed.i will never ever call another man my dad bc there will always be one daddy for me. He was my idol my hero. And I sure miss him.i need him back. I always go to his grave but my mama doesn't go bc it breaks her heart. My brother and sisters were to little to remember him.w but I will always remember him during for this country.

I feel ya . my dad was also in the Army but instead of dying for his country he died in a car wreck i was 5. Im the only one of my siblings (being the oldest) that remembers him but still he wasnt a Daddy. I longed for a Daddy and this song... I lost My father to Covid . I am 10 now but I was 8 at the time. Every time I listened to this song I broke down into tears . No one knows the impact of losing someone as close as a parent or sibling before it actually happens. I miss My father so much , thank you for taking the time to read this

My son's Dad died when he was five from a brain tumor. At that time, I thought of all the milestones he would miss as his son grew up. Today, I will dance to this song with my son at his wedding. I've spent his entire childhood trying to be both Mom and Dad. This song really hit home.

I lost my dad almost a year ago (6/28/19) This will be the 1st out of 40 Father’s Day without him. I am so sorry for the loss of your dad! It is the saddest part of life, that’s for sure. I think my dad had a heart attack as well. He was so strong though, not so much healthy, but he would break bones and bounce right back and one Friday morning, he has a stomach ache and by the time my sister got there it was too late. I just miss him so much. I miss our talks and I miss how he would laugh at my stupid jokes, even if they weren’t funny (which was rare 😂). He was my sister and I’s biggest fan. We would walk in a room, no matter if we just saw him 5 minutes before or a week before, and his face would light up and he would have a huge smile like we were the biggest celebrities he’d ever seen haha ugh I miss that! He definitely made us feel special. Here I go blabbing again 😆 I hope you have great memories of your dad like I do mine. It does help a little during hard times. 🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️😢😢😢

My thought about folks that disliked this song...
they do not like the gut wrenching emotions it brings them. Some people choose to not feel or think about their loss because of the pain and anger it may cause them all over again. Everyone deals with loss differently and this song may just hit too close to home.
This is one of my many favorites of Luke’s because of the emotions it draws for me and I support our military and their sacrifices 110%!

Everyday I do my best to make him proud. Tell him what you want him to know even if he cant respond. He will still hear you. In Dec 2019 I underwent double bypass surgery and my dad came to me in my sleep and told me I would be fine this time and not to worry but he couldn't guarantee next time. I would do anything to have him with me again. Luke thanks for this song. It hits home.
I lost my dad 20 years ago already. I had brain surgery a year ago, but ended up with serious infections. The third of the surgeries i felt my dad holding my hand, I woke up and said, "dad".. The nurses had no clue and said they would find my parents when I could have visitors. Mom came in and I told her, dad was holding me, just like he always did when I was a little girl. Someone I miss so much and that's my daddy! We were like 2 peas in a pod. We both loved to fish 🎣 and It didn't matter if we didn't catch anything we just both enjoyed the outdoors! We were the only 2 out of the family that liked wild game meat's. He always called me his little girl. Everytime he was working on the car I was helping him by handing him what tools he needed to fix whatever it was he was needing to fix! He's no longer here he's gone to be with the Father 🙏 and also my mom who passed away back in 1995. We sure miss those good old days and wish they had never ended! I wonder how many times Luke’s voice cracked with emotion while trying to record this song. This song definitely pulls at the heart strings. It makes me think of my Grandpa and my Uncle, both have passed away and have been that father figure for me all of my life. Two of the best men that I could have ever asked for as role models, to be my Grandpa, and to be my Uncle (also my Godfather). The best gift they ever gave me was their love.
